I am doing this exact part of my build now, and you showing me the corner's that you made really helped me out. I had already replaced most of the trunk from another car but the back was rotted to much to use either car. I ordered the 3 parts to fix the back 10" or so. I just need to make the corner parts like you did. So Thanks I have watched your whole series on Christine and it has helped a bunch.
I saw the rear 10" trunk repair kit when I was still trying to figure out the corners. There is only 1 beam in the entire trunk, and it goes left to right directly underneath the tail panel, where the two body bolts attach. There is no need to overthink those corners. You need the vertical curved plate to hold against the edge of the trunk pan, and the other piece 1) gives the tail panel a landing surface and 2) closes off the open edge at the fender. The line where the edge of the trunk floor sits against the tail panel all the way across the bumper might be sealed with seam sealer.

Its funny. I have about 10 people following me very closely, but the videos aren't getting much exposure on RUclips. I'm hoping it will eventually come, but I'm not going to let it stop me from continuing to put out good content. And my nature won't let me skip over info. It's why I can't turn out a 10 minute video for anything!
Which one? The wheel well or the trunk corner at the tail panel? The edge of the wheel well patch was hammered over a wooden edge in one direction, and then that edge was bent in reverse with pliers to create the rib where I spliced it. The tail panel piece was small and very pliable. I bent the hard corner on my homemade metal break, and then tapped the curve into it with a hammer right there on the pavement. Neither were hard, but I'd say the bead was more challenging.
@@jackkindred8407 Ah. OK. I made a little metal brake to bend up to 24" wide pieces, but those are less than 3 inches. You can bend that on a vice. I'd bend one of the two 90 degree bends on a vice, then set the edge on the pavement, and use a mallet to tap in the curve. Once you get it curved enough, then put it back in the vice to bend the other 90. Voila!
You asked, why do you do it? It's a love off cars and your not the only one that has asked that question. I'm building a 55 Nomad from a regular wagon and using my orginal Nomad that I have had since 1974, as a template. There is virtually nothing left of the car I'm building except for a California frame. I'm retired and it's a big retirement project. What parts I don't have, I'm fabricating. It seems like and many Nomad sheet metal is not available around the top of the rear 1/4s and inside of the rear 1/4s below the C pillers area. I have been working on it for 3 years and it is starting to look like a car even though it's just a floor and firewall so far. Next is grafting on a Nomad roof I picked up, then the doors and getting rear 1/4s. I still have alot of work to do but like I said, it's a love. People do dumb things for love. Your car is looking good and you know it will pay off in the long run. Your doing it right. Great videos and I'm a new subscriber.
My wife often asks why I insist on having hobbies that can be so frustrating and require so much work... I guess you have to be addicted to old cars to understand! Thanks for the encouragement and I feel your pain on that Nomad! From what I've read, parts are uncommon and, when you find them, expensive. Let's get 'em done!
Every video you get more done, congratulations. That car with all the rot is a big undertaking. Do you have any plans for the rust in the wheel wells and other places the sand blaster couldn't get to? Keep up the good work. Your progress looks good.
That's a good question. There is a lot of rot in the upper area of the inner quarter panels, which are actually hidden from the wheel well. One that you might have noticed is above and behind the trunk hinge. I can't get to it to cut and weld. I'm guessing that happened from a window leak. But the more I take this car apart, the more I'm convinced that it once was abandoned under the trees to rot away before someone saved it maybe 30 years ago. I'm going to have to pick my battles on the hard-to-reach areas. Thanks for following!
I'd thought about getting the stainless to turn my 210 sedan into a BelAir, but after seeing all the holes I'd have to make to install it I'm glad I didn't do it.
Hi Bill, I've been following all your videos and applying your knowledge to my own 55 build. I've come to a small stumble and need your advice please. I'm including a few pics for you to see my issue. Where the trunk meets the floor there's the back seat separating the trunk area, at the bottom of the separation there's a flange which I highlighted in my pics, should I remove that flange? I'm thinking where the floor and trunk meet I would not need that flange, any suggestions? Love your vids man. I'm not sure how to send the photos!
I had a problem with my lid fitting at the bottom cause apparently the two corners squeezed in...I would suggest a person should try the deck lid first but too late now..I used a porta-power to push it apart.... but then I didnt put the floor in I just repaired the back brace... mine wasn' this bad...lookin good thou...dont forget the safety straps
Roger that! I fell like it stayed in shape pretty well, considering I had the TAILpanel (totally my bad!) in place the whole time. Just got the 2nd rocker panel today, so that's probably this weekend's work!
My tail panel was replaced before I took it apart. My suspicion is that for such a simple part, they're probably all the same. H&H is a good mom-n-pop. Classic Industries is a decent big-box supplier. Real Deal Steel is who I've ordered most of my parts through.
@@RestoringChristine1956 Got my tail panel in, and went ahead and bought a short piece of trunk floor as it was kinda rusty under the latch assembly. Also ordered a complete driver side quarter panel. So let the welding begin! You continue to be an inspiration! ;)
The floor pan itself was $950 plus shipping from Classic Industries. And if I had to pay someone to do this, I really don't know how much that would be. My guess is that it would be two to three times that in labor.

When we bought her in 2005, she was a beautiful red and white two-tone. My kids, who were very little at the time, thought she looked like the movie car and they called her that. It just stuck. I may have missed it but who do you recommend for ordering a tail panel for my 56 Chevy? Mine is rusted out too.

How much do the floor Pan in the trunk like you're doing

When u went to cut out the rotted portion on the pasenger fender well just below the flange was guage metal are u using for the patch?
Everything I repaired on Christine was 18 gage.
