This is so disgusting. We never get believed. When I was 11, me and my parents went to a grocery store. There was a small toy section, so while my parents went to buy the food, I would chill in the toy section. I had a phone so if anything goes wrong, I could call them. 10 mins go by, and this weird dude starts following me around the shop. There were a few iles of toys, and each time I would change my way, he would follow me. To a point, he got so near to me his pants WENT ON THE FLOOR. I SAW EVERYTHING. I was so disgusted, and he was making his way towards me. I quickly got my phone, and as he saw it, immediately ran away. I runned to my parents, telling them what had happened and guess what? DIDNT BELIEVE ME. They said it was only a security guard. WHAT THE HELL???!! HE. PUT. HIS. PANTS. DOWN. but my parents were having none of it. Nobody ever believed expect my grandpa who told me I had done a good thing to get my phone out. Thinking about it now, if it wasn’t for my phone, I would have been rapped. At 11 years old by a creepy old man

That’s just ur parents. And women do get believed. But courts can’t throw nobody in jail without evidence. And chances are if she would’ve screamed, 1 of the other 5 ppl would’ve heard her and help her back it up. From a court level, she’s not looking too good. The best the judge can do was probation. Also there’s women who lie and we can’t be quick to trust ONLY them. Cuz men and women are different. And get treated different in society in some cases. If a man is accused, he’s guilty til proven innocent. If a woman is accused she’s innocent til proven guilty. Just 1 accusation from a man can cost him his reputation, his job, his family and etc.

I think this has nothing to do with values or gender. We were presented with 0 of the actual evidence from this case, and even if the judge believes her he/she cannot convict the defendant without proof beyond reasonable doubt. We have no idea what the evidence was like for this case. Personal testimony does not count as the entire burden of proof. While this can seem unfair and sometimes we wish people would just believe others when they are telling the truth, that would lead to many problems in practice.

1) to anyone harping on the defense attorney. That’s his job. He’s supposed to cast doubt on the prosecutions case
2) cases like this are rarely tried by a judge. It’s a jury.
3) no matter what he’s 15, while a minor no ones gonna bring criminal charges against him if the person is around his age group, but she clearly wasn’t. He’s a closer to being an adult than a child and she still is a child. He wouldn’t just walk away from this with probation.

The lawyer is (and please pardon my opinion) a sexist jerk who believe that it was her fault, thus convincing the judge to give him the 'not guilty' verdict. It's both sad and no wonder why most assault victims/survivors choose to keep quiet. You did the right thing by telling your mom.
Tbh we don't know what the lawyer felt. He might've been fully on the girl's side but with a job like his you can't let your morals get in the way of the case or you'll never make any money. And everybody's gotta eat y'know

I was raped (normal for girls) and honestly it was very traumatic. The lawyer who is a man wouldn’t understand, when I was abused I was paralyzed from the horror and muted of the thought of me being killed if I yelled. Its just horrible and being able to yell for help takes a lot of courage, trust me.
