Tbh, I see nothing wrong with cousins falling in love with one another. In Japan for example this type of relationship is normal regardless of potential risks. Those kids had a healthy relationship together and I found it nice and refreshing...we as a society put too many rules on who we may or may not love and I find it suffocating...

Me neither. My grandmother married her cousin and that was very common here (I'm european). It's not so much now, because there are more options. However it's not seen as something wierd. When I was little some of my family members thought I'd marry one of my male cousins. I've never seem any of my cousins as any more than my brothers and sisters, but I don't think it's wrong, as long as it's not something toxic or damaging for anyone.
