- LYRICS:
Catfish pie in gris gris bag
I'm the lover of the bayou
Pack your doorstep with a half-wet rag
I'm the lover of the bayou
I was raised and swam with the crocodile
Snake-eye taught me the Mojo style
Sucked and weaned on chicken bile
I'm the lover of the bayou
I learned the key to the master lock
Learned to float in the water-clock
Learned to capture the lightning shock
I'm the lover of the bayou
I got cats and teeth and hair for sale
I'm the lover of the bayou
There are zombies on your tail
I'm the lover of the bayou
I cooked a bat in a gumbo pan
I drank the blood from a rusty can
Turned me into the Hunger Man
I'm the king of the bayou
I'm the lover of the bayou
I'm the lover of the bayou
I'm the lover of the bayou
I'm the king of the bayou

Love the 12 strings, which sounds great especially for a Byrds song. Thanks for the music Robert.
Thank you very much my friend! Glad you like this!
What a great song. I love some of the live versions of this song from 1970, with Clarence White on guitar
Yes, the Byrds were great! I love all their music, from the first single to the final album. Some interesting personnel changes along the way, and Clarence White was a superb musician! Thanks for the visit, and the comment!

Thank you my friend. I appreciate the comment! Best wishes!
I agree with other listeners that the 12 string just played naturally this way without a pic is the way to go …. Cool 😎
Thanks for the visit, and the comment! I used a pick for years, but after trying some finger picking I gradually phased out using a pick and now I never use one.
Hey, Robert! A Byrds deep cut! Sounds really good. A great vocal and sweet 12 String. Roger and Gene would approve! Well, I certainly do. Cheers, Bill
Thank you Bill! I'm a life-long Byrds fan, and their many off-shoots and solo projects. Folk-rock and Country-rock are still two of my favourite music genres!
Very nice. I'm not familiar with that Byrds song but I love your rendition.
Thank you for the visit, and the comment!
Robert, once again I just love your straight forward sincere presentations. So relaxing. I wish you and i could just sit at a campfire and sings songs together. What a joy that would be indeed. How far apart are we? Ha!
Yes, we have a rather large pond between us, Mike, but the wonders of modern technology enable us to hear each other's musical offerings almost as soon as they are put out there on youtube. I thank you for the kind comment! Have a great day!
Love it Robert excellent performance my friend ❤
Thank you my friend! I appreciate the comment!

Excellent, Robert - new subscriber
Thank you very much!
12 string guitar, sound is good, your singing is good too^^
I like your music^^
Thank you very much!
This song was released on the Byrds "Untitled" double album in 1970, and two versions (one live and one studio version) appeared on the expanded edition when "Untitled/Unissued" came out on CD in 2000. Both versions featured some blistering electric guitar work by Clarence White. My pared-down 12-string acoustic version is somewhat different, but hopefully it sounds OK.
