It's too cool that Tom came back to his friends and put this together. That speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. He came back for his friends.
Tom didn't do it entirely for his friends; he said that he thought that Mudcrutch was a "good little band." He thought that they had never reached their potential. And he was right, and proved it, by writing good new songs, and recording and touring them. It all worked out, so it seems, and we're lucky to have videos.
Mike Campbell is an outstanding guitarist ........... tasty licks. He gets great tone from whatever guitar he happens to be playing. He has not received the accolades that he deserves for his masterful playing.

Caught Mudcrutch at The Ryman this week (May 31, 2016) and it was, predictably, a fantastic show. Wished it would have lasted longer than 2-hours it was so good! Makes listening to both Mudcrutch albums even better now though. This is the best American music today along with The Heartbreakers. Thank you Tom, Mike, Benmont, Tom, & Randall.

This is an example of why Tom Petty was always considered so "cool". This great rendition of Lover of the Bayou and that hat! Mudcrutch was one hell of a band.
@@chriswinter2725 at least we do still have his music to enjoy in video, audio, live AND from the studio. Thank God for the technology that we are blessed with so that we are able to do this.. even though Tom has left the World as we know it. 💔
What a great piece of music, by great musicians, It seems unfair to single out one of them for special attention, but I have to say how brilliant Mike is... his guitar playing is superb yet effortless. Fantastic.
Chris Bingham trust me , it’s ok to single Mike Campbell out for being excellent at his craft and giving the audience everything he has when he plays. I don’t think the rest of the other band members would be offended fir recognizing Mike Campbell’s excellence, even Tom Petty has talked about Mike Campbell being underrated and so strong at his craft to where he admitted that Mike over the years has had to show him a thing or two he also said Mike Campbell is the man that “does it all”!✌️🧚🏻♂️
I agree @tantraman10 . One recording that always puts my heart in my throat is the sublime Oct.16 1992 My Back Pages, by an ensemble of gods and Wilburys -- with Mr. McGuinn and Mr. Petty taking verses 1 and 2.
Back in 1974 I hitchhiked from Monterey, CA to Gainesville, FL for a free Country Joe and the Fish Halloween concert. The opening act was this new group Mudcrutch. They did a bunch of Byrds covers that were amazing and stole the show for me.
I saw the Byrds with Clarence White do this in Tampa back around '70 or '71, and still nobody has ever played like Clarence White. But I'll do y'all one better--I used to love hearing Mudcrutch live in Gainesville when I was in college. They were the best band in town, and .... I have other stories about them--like free concerts at the Mudcrutch Farm....
heh you guys I would love to hear a podcast with Mike Campbell, because introvert that he is, he really can explain those brilliant things that happened in that once in a lifetime under-rated band; e.g. the mandolin he played in It'll all work out … took me days to figure out what that unearthly sound was … Appalacians? The really cool thing about Mudcrutch / Heartbreakers is that they are friends for forty years or more. That is awesome, cause they are doing this song because of their long friendship and history + Roger Guin who co wrote this tune, and turn turn turn from his band The Byrds
I love hearing and rocking out to this tune! From the other comments, I found out that it’s a Byrds tune from early 1960s. I would love to know what the lyrics mean, but I can enjoy it without knowing. 9/13/2023 🎶

This is awesome. Period. The older Tom and his bandmates from Mudcrutch and the Heartbreakers get, the better they sound!! Should be a hell of an '08 tour for TP&HBs this summer.
After some bad years, he's back -- incredible again. saw them at the first gig -- a benefit in a cute little community center in Malibu -- and then in Santa Cruz. Whenever Petty does McGuinn/Byrds, I love it!!! He pours passion into his playing that shows his love for McGuinn and Co.!
He reveres Roger McGuinn, so do I.
Me too, had every Byrds album in the 60's - saw them in the UK, met Roger McGuinn, wonderful times
When the Byrds 1st album came in summer '65, I immediately bought a Ludwig Super Classic with Zildjian cymbals, formed a band, and started playing.
