I... I need to see a montage of tom's slow descent into wardrobe madness over the years, I think this is a new high mark.

I just bought Catacombs Regent, an expansion. I love this game as a 46 yr old adult and can't wait for it to get a little more complicated.

    • @aerouge4492
      @aerouge4492 3 года назад +1

The expansion was really a dud for us. It adds mainly "Take that!"-style playerinteraction with the new duel-rooms and spells ... which is really counter-intuitive for a kids game.

@@aerouge4492 , I haven't played the expansion yet but to me, it sounds more fun. It's a competitive game to begin with and it's hilarious when an opponent is struggling and you can just make it all worse.

I've been playing with my son since he was 3 and 1/2 years old. This is an exceptional game for younger children. Probably the 7+ rating is just because the game has swords and combat etc. If you have a 3 or 4 year old all the way up to 7 and 8 year olds, buy this.

A bit late to comment, but yeah: I think this is one of the big problems with age recommendations in board gaming. Basically if you go by official recommendations kids below 10 or even 12 years of age are only supposed to plant flowers, feed animals or just play abstract stuff, whereas the reality of things is, that many kids like pirates, knights, ninjas etc. and at the latest (!) when they enter grade school most of the themes that experts from the field of pedagogic research will endorse stop being interesting.
This IMHO also (not in case of this game) leads to loads of board games that are mechanically designed to challenge an 8-year-old kid while their theme can at best captivate a 4-year-old.

I've been looking for an age appropriate dungeon adventure game to give to my friends little boys as they are no older than five, this looks great. I forgot about this one I guess after seeing review back then.

My son loves playing it at age 4... just needs the occasional help with counting (which he learned up to 20 with this game).

    this was my gateway drug
back in july me and my friend went for a beer in my hometown and some friends of his asked us to join
since then ive spent around 800€ on tabletop games, they take one full BESTA closet from ikea
oh and yeah its one great game, has its balance issues but overally its simple, light and has tons of fun, you can explain this in 15 minutes and play totally wasted yet still being able to perform
i recomend this as introduction to hobby or to play with non boardgame people

I am going to be honest... I love the hero artwork, they look so interesting! This looks amazing for younsters, so straight forward and simple. Loved the concept.

It is really cool kids game. Karak is very popular in it's country of origin Czechia 🇨🇿 . We have it since Christmas and our 5.5 years old son loves it (actually every adult who played it did so). We also own new plastic heroes, newly produced by Albi, so the feeling of kids' RPG game is even stronger now.

Very very reminiscent of 2015's Lost Woods, a game that my daughter adored.

My friend bought this for us last Christmas but it was right before we moved so we didn't get around to playing it. Didn't realize it was a quick easy kids game. I will have to get this out this week and play it with my kids. Thank you for the review.

My friend presented me with this one when my younest son was 4, and he LOVED it! It's definitely a boring game for adult boardgamers but for the youngest kids it's just super fun. It's very easy to teach and play, it has a sense of a race, you want to find the dragon faster than the others, and the same time it might not be a game-winner 'cause someone else might have more chests. The hero abilities and spells are simple, game turns are fast, there's no PvP that can sadden the kids. The tiles look a little boring, I agree with Tom here, but everything else is really good. A great choice for the young adventurers!

You say it's a kids game but as you get older, lugging Claustrophobia around in a backpack starts to take a toll. Might need to switch to this.

Just played it today twice with my 5yr son - He loved it. Minor con: pulling keys, chests weapons or the dragon from the bag (plus the dice) can get quite random and make the game a bit long or very short. The game can sometimes also get extremely easy. The kids have fun anyway but I may house rule a thing or two just to make it more interesting. Apart from that, this is "my first dungeon crawler" and it is great.

Curious why Tom did a review of this 2017 game that seems to be out of print, or at least not currently available in NA. Glad he did, I didn't know about it... but wonder if it's coming back in availability hopefully...

check out Bag of Dungeon, a little more complex, just slight but basically same mechanics. Pretty fun both of them tbh

  • @Syncopator

Looks a lot like Rogue the board game. One thing I REALLY like about it is it's a dungeon crawl that's NOT a co-op. Now if they only had a decent non co-op dungeon crawl for adults.

Well I was going to say it was available on Amazon. I saw Mike's unboxing video for this game the week before Christmas and purchased it from Amazon... but it looks like it is no longer available there. The only place I see it available now is on Ebay under just Karak, but it comes from Poland so it's not cheap.
