I was I a terrible accident July 24th 2017 that almost left dead, I broke leg in 6 places from the knee down, over a year and its non union, will I have another surgery? I have never smoked anything in my life
Hi Dr. David I have a fracture in upper joint on my left shoulder I did not go with the operation. Can I ask if it will going to heal naturally. Thanks
Im 13 my bone is half way connected in 2 weeks its still not healing the doctor said it needs pins but i can move my fingers but not thumb as much When i move my fingers i feel something move
I was just in a motorcycle accident 6 weeks ago. Tib/fib break, two spinal bones fractured, road rash on knee and arms, and ripped my head open. Walking with a small limp now. No crutches or brace anymore. Hardest part for me is knowing each day would be different. some days I felt amazing like I never crashed. Other days, it was hard to get up to go to the bathroom. Every day is different and you just have to keep going.
That seems pretty fast to be already putting weight on your leg. Your accident was definitely more tramatic than mine. I lowsided and broke my fibula with a ligament tear last month. You going to get back on the bike when recovered?
@@gabrieltiso8537 that sucks. Hope it's feeling better. Did you notice it when you walked? I remember them telling me the fibula is only a small support. Yeah. I just need more gear. Helmets smashed in half. Still going to be sport bikes. I love racing and want to do track someday. Possibly Isle of Man if I don't get too old. Do you still ride?
@@caseyrybacksniper that's some hardcore riding, definitely get the quality gear! It's expensive but as we found out so is injury lol Oh I just had surgery little more than a week ago. When I got out from under the bike my foot was pointing in the wrong direction so I'm taking it easy. I intend to get back on the bike! It's a 650 dual sport with street wheels and tires. Before that I had a supermoto but I've definitely always liked the idea of a supersport for the thrills
@@gabrieltiso8537 yeah. Idk how much bruising you have, but that'll slow down how good you feel walking on it. Icing it will help heal it. Heating it will help blood flow for a little more healing. Both are great. Rest, ice/heat, compress, elevate. Remember for exercise to work at a lower pace until you're comfortable. Nice. I had a vstrom 1000. I just had nowhere to ride here. Every field is taken by a crazy farmer. Keep riding and stay safe.
@@caseyrybacksniper appreciate the tips and encouragement! First significant injury for me so very humbling. Definitely going to be more cautious on fresh tires next time. I like the Vstrom but when I sat on one it seemed to heavy for my skill level. Maybe one day. Here's to keeping the shiny side up Casey 🍻🤙
Hi Im a 24 year old male from australia, 11 months ago i spiral fractured my tib and fib, i had a tib nail put in, after 3 months i had no signs of healing, they removed a screw because they thought the nail might be making my leg too stiff. At 10 month mark i got a second opinion he recommended surgery, they removed my rod, and plated both the tib and the fib. i’ve been off work the past 11 months and am now still in the no weight baring stage 4 weeks post surgery. im also healthy, dont smoke and love the gym! wish me luck
I was in a car accident back in May this year.. Oblique fracture of my Tibia .. as at my last checkup two weeks ago no sign of healing .. affects my schooling.. I feel very bad .. and I'm also 24..its more like I have a friend with similar issues.. although mine didn't require a rod or screw. We could be friends if you want, on any platform of your choice
hey guys 21 months on and 4 surgeries later i am finally back to work! i ended up finding out my first surgeon stuffed my surgery up, goes to show that a second opinion does help!
If you're old, like me, bones take longer to heal. If you're poor-uninsured and was unemployed when you broke your bone, you may as well be dead. While you're supposed to be trying to recuperate, you are flooded with bills and every single one of these providers could care less about what you're going through. Your days are spent trying to find a way to pay the bills without losing every single thing you have. The stress is unbelievable. For those of us who work with our hands and may not have lots of office skills or expensive tech to be able to earn money from home, we are in a very bad situation.
🙌🏼 I’m not old, but as someone who works a job where I work with my hands, nit being about to walk & getting disability payments that doesn’t even cover my rent, it’s been a hard 6 months.
Hip fracture at 53. Not healing. I did physical therapy. Started going numb knee pain right before hip break. Doctors can’t figure it out. So frustrating and sorry for all those out there suffering.
Broke my 5th metatarsal foot bone in 1996. It was a diagonal fracture. Doctor put in a cast up to mid calf. I refuse to use my crutches, so hopped around the house. Stupid, I know. After 6 weeks I think, my broken bone had only healed halfway up. I could actually feel the separation in the bone. At that time I was a social smoker and used ibuprophen and excedrine often to cope with migraines and severe menstrual cramps. My cast had been removed just prior to a vacation we were about to take. Doc was confident it would heal the rest of the way on its own. We went hot tubbing about 5 days into our vacay, thinking the heat might help with blood flow and healing, as the bone still hadn’t bridged the gap. On his way out of the hot tub, my then fiancé, now husband, accidentally snagged my pinky toe with his swim trunks. It yanked on my foot just hard enough to cause intense pain. The following day, the bone was completely healed and I could no longer feel the gap. It felt wonderful to walk on. When I got back from vacay, doc took an X-ray and indeed the fracture had healed, albeit wrong. The bone wasn’t lined up correctly and a piece was sticking out. It felt fine though, so doc said it should be fine and my body should adjust. 25 years later, I’m now experiencing pain in that area enough to change my walking gate. I’m thinking I now developed arthritis in that area; a sudden onset, about 2 weeks ago. I’ve always felt slight twinges in that area with weather changes, but nothing major. I’m going to make a doctors appointment to see what’s up.
My biggest challenge with the compound fracture to my arm is knowing how to make a living when all I know is manual labor. I would be interested in seeing a video that suggests how to get through the healing process financially. What jobs are available to someone who has broken their good arm, for instance?
I have been very lucky to have a work from home office job for this reason. I recently broke my foot, and I can’t imagine what I’d do if I had a manual labor job.
Broken Ulna at the elbow and mason type 3 fracture of the radial head. 4 years ago today. The radial head was removed at the radial neck. The ulna is still in a state of non union. After 3 rounds of surgery. The only thing holding my forearm together is a plate and six pins two of which have worked loose. I have my next operation coming in six days time to hopefully fix this for good. Wish me luck 🍀
hi there i broke both the ulna and radius nightstick fractures (mountain bike crash). open fracture after 16 mos. no change. i go for another doctor opinion next week probably a bone graft soon. if you get this response, three yrs since your post here, can you share what you did to 'fix' it? i'm thinking bone graft. but what material did they use i.e. bone from your hip, synthetic, cadavear, etc? how are you doing now? hopefully almost 100%! thank you so much if you can respond.
I am a 36 year old lady with a femur fracture. I had surgery where a nail was put to help hold the fracture points. I had the surgery in May and it still hasn't healed. My doc cannot give a definite reason as to why but he says it might be a case if non union. This is very scary.
First off thanks for the useful information in your video! First bone break at 42 yrs old.. I was out on the trail and had a simple slip and fall go bad, after realizing how this break occurred I will tell you yes.. a slip and fall can go bad as I've fallen hundreds of times but never had my left foot hook my right leg and then full weight straight down on my Femur. Everyone else heard the femur snap but I did not, had surgery to repair using a stryker 440mm gamma kit nail, pretty sure that's what it's called. My biggest challenge at first in hospital was the pain, hydro-morphine and dilaudid did not work very well for me so my whole first week was pretty painful. I was home by 2 weeks and having to come up with routines and systems to accomplish tasks that were once simple and rather thoughtless but now EVERYTHING requires so much more work and effort... but not entirely impossible. With every day of physio exercise my leg gets stronger again and I can already put 65kg on it, I weigh 85kg.. not bad?
@@paulinecolby Don't give up hope.. it'll come. I've always been a bit quicker for healing tho never thought I'd be healing from this. I'm now on a cane most days and am so close to walking normal again but things still hurt. thanks for replying, good to hear from others going through the same thing.
@@dbgn Doing pretty good now, only thing I cant do is sleep on my left side which is the side I broke. I can run, climb, jump better than before and sticking to them exercises i swear is what got me this far.
I’ve had two fractures now. First one scaphoid, against all odds mine healed about twice as quick as expected. I largely contribute this to not taking any of the pain meds they subscribed. I am now suffering a broken tibia combined with lots of other tears of ligaments, meniscus, and other things sadly, I have been trying my best to take as little pain meds as possible. I truly hope the recovery time isn’t as long as they are telling me. But even if it is, I am taking vitamins and will be trying my best to make sure I heal and recover
When I was 59 I was hit on my bicycle by a small truck. It broke my femur bone on my left leg. I also broke ribs. It took many months to recover. And they said it wasn't healing well because I had some sort inflammation in body. I'm 63 now and can barely walk with a cane or Walker. I had a bad limp from the beginning. They say no one has a shorter leg. Yeah I do now. Even the nurses after surgery was making fun of my one shoulder leg. After three times going back to the doctor and getting x-rays twice he told me the operation was a complete failure but that an operation to fix it would be a very bloody and painful deal and he did not recommend it. The last time I beat it over to the doctor about the pain in my leg he took an x-ray a bunch when I was with him he showed me it and said it's fixed. I said but I can't walk he said get a walker. They did give me a handicap placard for my car though. I can't even drive. Since the accident my life and my wife's life has completely changed
Thanks foir the video, very interesting topic. What are your thoughts on calcium, magnesium, D + zinc supplements for good bone healing? Or any other supplement for that matter. Thanks!
I am a 77 year old white female non-smoker who fell on Mother's Day, May 8, 2022, and broke my right radius and ulna (shattered). I had surgery that day and plates were put in both bones. I also lost the feeling in my right thumb, index, and middle fingers and part of the 4th finger. 5th finger is ok. I eventually had to have carpal tunnel surgery on July 8, 2022. I have more feeling now but the index and middle fingers are really sensitive and I have to push really hard to push a button and I can't grip things with my fingers. It took a long time to type or play the piano. I have spent the summer in occupational and physical therapy. It is now almost Thanksgiving and my doctor ordered a bone stiumlator as there is a gap near the unla plate that hasn't filled in with bone yet. I was in more pain and discomfort this past week prior to my doctor's visit and I had it re-xrayed and the gap was noted. I had to have a left mastectomy November 1 and had limited use of my left arm so I was using my right arm to do more lifting etc and I probably aggravated it hence the added pain and discomfort. Your video helped in explaining why bones don't heal. Hope my case can help you help me and others.
I started to worried about my broken left hand...after 3 month still not healing. After watching your video I understand and makes me feel a little comfortable about my injury. Thank you doctor.
I’m 49 yr female, smoked for 14 yrs but been quit for over 20 years. I had surgery to alleviate flat foot and severe plantar fasciitis with hammer toe alignment. There were plates placed on both sides of my left foot, with the interior facing fusion healing, while the exterior facing was non union. I had the plate removed and further bone grafting and staples and screws placed on the non union. Six months later, I was not healed and had actually fractured at the insertion sites of the staples. I had triple arthrodesis and complete fusion of the left foot and ankle 8 weeks ago and am currently using an ultrasound bone growth stimulator. I had Ct scan today to see where we are in healing. Everything looks great for me as far as calcium levels and bone health. My only concerns were extended steroid use for breathing difficulties and vein ablation in the left leg in 2016. I’ve had 4 surgeries in 3 years totaling almost 20 hours under for operations.
I have a broken right foot . now part of my ankle is slowly healing but i can't but weight baring and can't walk. And this happened in November 19 2020 i have on a air boot as we speak.
I feel like I might be wearing my shoe string cast for awhile before I feel safe putting weight on my ankle. Dislocated fracture and multiple avulsions on each side of ankle. The doctor listed me with a sprain, insulted me for using a walker on wheels days after the injury and I was put on full work duty only a week after returning to work. Even after twelve weeks, I am being rushed into recovering well enough to stand on it right hours and lift while working at a fast pace. It would be easier for me to work as a forklift driver but my employer wants me to stand on it right hours. It amazing me that they don't want to pay for a surgery or MRI but they are trying to do things that would delay my healing and cause a fracture in the near future or unfortunately it can fracture two year from now due to not having proper medical treatment.
I broke my humerus and my pelvis after being hit by a truck while riding my bike. I have screws in my pelvis and a rod and screws in my arm. This happened 9 months ago, I just found out that my arm didn’t heal, it’s a non union. I’ve been doing Physio since July and clearly have doing more damage not knowing this from the look on my Physiotherapist’s face when I told her. My surgeon recommended I use the Exogen bone stimulator for the next 3 months. If it doesn’t heal then I’ll need a bone graft and replace the rod. Opening up my scar again scares me!! All activities hurt and I can’t lift anything really. I knew something was wrong and I’m glad I know but I’m so upset. I don’t smoke, I take all the vitamins, eat well, I’m 43. Have you had success with with patients using a bone stimulator? My pelvis healed but not my arm. Thoughts? Alain should I be doing any Physio at all for my arm anymore ?
I had a compound fracture of my left leg. I broke my tibia and fibula and the medial malleolus broke the skin. My doctor said he usually sees that type of trauma in a motor vehicle accident; I did it playing baseball when I tripped over the 1st basebman's leg running to 1st. I have a plate and 9 screws in my leg, but am getting 2 of the screws removed so I have a bit more range of motion in my ankle since those two go all the way through. I was selected to participate in a study funded by the DOD that utilzed an Alter-G treadmill which starts you walking at a reduced body weight 4 weeks after surgery. I completed the 10-week study and am walking about 2 months ahead of schedule. I still have nerve pain almost every night in my foot, but it continues to improve each day. My last surgery was in Oct. 2020, so I feel good about my progress. If there is a possibility of using an Alter-G treadmill during your rehab, I highly recommend it. I know there are videos on You Tube of it if you are interested in seeing what it looks like.
Currently sitting at over 3 months since a mountain biking accident that fractured my Occipital Condyle and compression fractured two of my vertebrae in my thoracic spine. Got a few more weeks to go before I start physical therapy.
My ankle was broken. Doctor said one small part need to heal. Told me to wean myself from the boot. And that was in May. Ankle bone hurts bad. I have poor circulation in my leg.
I asked my surgeon about Ibuprofen slowing bone healing, and he said not to worry about it if you're not taking it long-term. He said I could take it for my recovery of fibular+ankle fracture because animal studies have shown that it slows bone healing in animals, but apparently they did a human study and no correlation was found between taking Ibuprofen and bone healing. There is a risk of overdosing if you take alot of Ibuprofen for a long time (like for chronic pain)
I'm 47 yrs old, heavy smoker, have a stable fracture on my left femur. Didn't go to the hospital at all. Didn't take any medication. Today is exactly 2 months in recovery. I can stand on my broken leg alone for 5 seconds before I feel pain. Maybe another month to full recovery.
@@JosephRostkowski tq, I'm fully recovered. You wanna know something interesting. I've been diabetic for 15 years but never take any medication. I fell and broke my left femur in May of 2023. This was the same leg where I had had a hip replacement three years prior. I had quite an extensive surgery with metal plates and metal rings to repair the femur and I have a scar from my hip to my knee. During so-called recovery, the leg was x-rayed three times and I was told everything was fine. My physical therapist said I should be using a walker and my cane which I did to a small painful degree after about three months. The pain continued to about a degree of 3 or 4 but I thought that was normal because of the size of the surgery. In December, (the 20th) the pain increased substantially and my thigh swelled and got very hard. I called an ambulance because I knew I couldn't make it through the night with the pain. The next morning a doctor at the hospital told me the femur wasn't healed and the metal plates had suffered metal fatigue and broken from the femur rocking back and forth. They did a second surgery, removed the metal, and placed a rod or spike the full length of the bone. Nine months later, I still can't walk and my right leg (knee) is very painful from having to bear the weight that can't be put on the left leg. Am I now crippled for life? The right leg seems to be shorter than the left, according to my PT and I will need a lift in my shoe if I ever walk again. How do I know the second surgery will be effective? I have lost all confidence in the doctors and am very depressed from this poor outcome. By the way, I am 79 years old and the consensus of opinion seems to be I don't have much time left anyway so it isn't very important. Prior to the original fall, I was totally independent, I do not have high blood pressure, I do not have diabetes, and have nothing that ever kept me from keeping house and doing what needed to be done. What do you think?

I have a fracture on the second rib, at the back (between scap and spine). It probably occured in December 2019. Was diagnosed a year later, December 2020 after a year of rehab work thinking it was a muscular problem. I am told it is a stress fracture cause by accumulated overhead load (my main training and work at the time revolved around handstand-training). Did a CT scan in December 2020 which found it and showed a little bit of bone growth. Backed of all upper body training and upper body everyday load. New CT end of March 2021. No difference, no change since December. My doctors don't know what to do really. I am to consult with a back surgeon to see if surgery might help. The orthopedic I met didn't seem to think it will heal on its own and recommended starting to do some upper body training again to on 3 months do another CT and see if things have gotten worse. If not I can do my training as long as I find the pain acceptable. But I believe the pain levels will hold my training and performance back if no change happens from now on. I know it's a very unusual injury. If anyone has had anything similar, either the same area or a injure caused by handstand work I'd love to connect.
November 18, 2018 I was in Malon Italy and hurt my foot falling off a curb. I thought it was sprained but two weeks later in the emergency room the doctor told me it was a bad sprain and two weeks after that according to the x-rays the orthopedic doctor said also it was a sprain not a break using the original x-rays from the ER. January 6 I return to United States and the urgent care doctor said it was broken it was seen by a radiologist and the doctor. It was the fifth metatarsal showed healing over six week period. They wrapped it with a bandage and gave me a boot. I day later I saw the orthopedic foot specialist surgeon who told me I should start walking. I can only put the heel down and I am taking it slow but I do know there has been improvement. He said it could be a year for a complete healing but I would not need surgery or a screw in it. I thought this was an interesting story for a person in your field. I guess I just have to take it slow I walk with crutches but I can put the heel down and then I do see improvement daily slight improvement however! Thank you for your video it was great
My humerus has not healed all the way for 10 months, and my doctor said it’s because of lack of blood flow. Then, a video popped up the next day (synchronicity) saying that Babesia, a parasite that is a Lyme coinfection, restricts blood flow. I have this, and now need an MRI w and w/o contrast and a CAT scan. Also, I’m only 4’ 9”, and the sling the hospital gave me was horrible (probably one size fits all!)! It did not hold my arm properly at all, even though I used an ACE bandage to keep it in place. It fell out all the time. I’m 68, so maybe it’s my age, but I was so careful! I’m trying to increase my blood flow before I get this MRI and CAT scan, that are dangerous anyway, and I don’t want them! I’d line to try ozone therapy and baby aspirin. I started taking ginkgo as well. Any other thoughts? I’m single and trying to rumba house and garden, and I’m not supposed to use my arm for anything but necessary things, like eating, dressing and bathing. This is very annoying!
almost have the same condition, my humersu fracture didn't heal for 8 months but now started to get reunion it's just the stiffness in my shoulder is really bothering. i hope you will get better soon.
Broken collar bone (broken in 3 places) very near the shoulder but the break was pretty much still in alignment. The sling prescribed by the doctor didn't do a thing. A figure 8 brace would have been better and I bought one after 2 months, suggested by my pharmacist friend. It helped to train me to use my shoulder less. Getting out of bed was a nightmare. I should have been prescribed a hospital bed. I eventually bought myself an adjustable bed. After 2 months there was zero healing observable by x-ray. The orthopedic surgeon prescribed an exogen device (sonogram type treatments). After a month of daily use, for 20 minutes per session (no sessions missed) there has been a lot of improvement. My shoulder isn't as wiggly. I also stopped doing almost everything. The mean time for healing, using the device is 6.9 months from the start of treatment. I hope it is going to be faster than that. I will have another x-ray in 2 months.
After few weeks that a fracture I had in the febula (put in some metals too)was not starting to heal, I started following some basic steps and the healing process went like into a turbo mode: 1. Sleep minimum 8.5 hours at night! 2. Exercise! Workout the entire body including the area near the fracture, without moving the ankle in my case. That's a must to keep a good blood circulation to the broken bone area. 3. Keep a diet with much whole oats and eggs fresh vegetables and fresh nuts and almonds.

Hey guys, i am 33 broke my tibia and fibula 5 months ago. They inserted a interlocking nail into the tibia and plated my fibula, in total 13 screews. Unfortuneatly the x-rays showed 3 months after surgery a very slow healing process.. I started to take extra strong vitamin D, tried to do everyday workouts with a stand bike and started eswt (shock wave) therapy. 2 weeks sgo the doctors removed one locking screw in order to dynamise the nail and stimulate bone growth. Now i have still severe pain when i load the foot. After a few seconds it gets better. When I unload the foot fast and on light tortion, its also painful. After some rest, starting bearing weight hurts again. Feels like the fibula is compressed on weight but separates the tibia again when unloading. Its a nighmare .. I will give the dynamization some additional time but its not getting better in terms of pain. Anyone similar experinces?

Delayed healing of women about 50 are in the perimenopause or menopause in which estrogen is being produced but at a greatly reduced amount. For women, if she is not producing a lot of estrogen any longer, she is not going to absorb calcium as well because the receptors in the bone require estrogen to be present in the woman. It the woman is a vegan, she'll likely be eating foods high in plant estrogens so she will heal but not as fast. Couple with that in my ankle fracture at at 64, that 65% plus of my ligaments were torn or torn off. Ligaments take a lot longer to heal than a bone. Men like to think all things are equal between men and women but women in their 50s normally have calcium loss as I did when I was tested. The further from the heart a fracture is, the longer it takes to heal to where women with broken bones in their 80s, no matter where the bone is in the body, may not heal and then because no healing is going on, doctors are reluctant to operate. The doctor told me due to my age the ligaments could not be reattached and my ankle bone would likely have trouble healing due to its location. What that meant is that its taken a year and a half due to the ligament damage for me to begin to go for walks as when I tried earlier, my ankle was grinding on itself. My knee tends to pop as the ankle and the knee work in conjunction and when one is not in place, pulls the other out. My podiatrist told me I might find that my stability with that ankle was such that I might never expect to walk normally. But I am doing it. Had to give up dairy as the calcium is not absorbed as well as the plant-based milk and I watch to be sure I am getting plant estrogens because without those I just am not absorbing calcium. Calcium from vegetable is more absorbable than all the calcium pills I could take. Nothing is better than good nutrition. It would be nice if you included menopausal women in your talk. Many women's condition is even worse as they have had hysterectomies but I did not have one. Post menopausal women do make some estrogen but if the uterus and ovaries are removed, you are really going to be hard to absorb calcium except if you eat soy and leafy greens and stay off the diary. Dairy is one of the biggest causes of arthritis. The countries with the most osteo arthritis like Norway are also among the highest dairy consumers. Dairy is not good for people.
Had a broken hand injury an was told that I needed surgery. I then asked the doctor if there is any chance to heal the bone without surgery. I was then told that it’s an option to just get a splint and see whether the bone heals without surgery. After only 3 months of constant rehab and a good diet my hand was back to normal, if not stronger than before. Always get a second opinion before making big surgical decisions, although sometimes its not an option to leave surgery. My biggest advice is to commit to at least 3-4 months of daily rehab including exercises every day and heat therapy also worked really well to losen up the rusty joints💪
I had a ladder fall from 20 feet resulted in proximal humerus, spiral shaft, damage to the greater tuberosity, severely displaced , the shattered bones were five frags, twenty one months non surgically. last visit to the MD's was 9 months ago, non union, said i probably had disease like cancer or diabetes but refused to own up to the fact that the fracture was never stabilized, prox hum is a very difficult one without plate and pin surgery. im wearing a plastic brace 21 months, for support. It is finally beginning to feel like i have a bonding and its growing more stable, im moving the forearm outward by my own muscle control whereas before i couldnt move away from my body with the arm. i no longer have to grab my shirt for support, im gaining control of movement and power. So im beginning rehab exercises now by my self, soon i will take the brace off for good, when i feel its time to strengthen the muscles, but i dont want to rush it and risk another fracture, i need the bone to heal very well because im a large guy, strong with large arms and muscle so my arm is heavy and at the proximal segment of the shaft the pressure must be immense, my shoulder is stiff, of course, but i been taking chondroitin glucosamine i eat well looking for collagen foods, and i feel i will get the arm back and it will be fully recovered but it will take a lot of time hard work and effort. I thank God for my recovery because God helped me many times over thn any doctor did. i had no insurance no workers coverage and there was no lawsuit to recover medical funds so....i was mistreated by the local hospital, ignored, dismissed even belligerently and hostile-ly abused by Jackson memorial hospital in miami florida. When you are are a margin of society before-hand these institutions capitalize on that and do further harm to life and the quality of ones life. its a real shame how they treat less fortunate Americans these days. With Gods help im working my way back to where i can work again, at least now i can move again. This was a most painful and frightening experience both for the physical injury and for the psychological harm being shown that i was less than a dog by the doctors and staff of my hospital. So i hope they will get theirs one day too. F-U Jackson!
I had an motorcycle accident which fractured my tibial bone along with fibula and my surgery was performed on 24.01.2023 in which doctors treated the fracture with plate and they left fibula bone untreated saying that it's not necessary, though they put the cast on. I had a checkup with doctor 3 weeks post surgery on 16.02.2023 and Doctors had an x-ray. But there was no healing at all, and doctors strictly advised not to put weight on the fracture leg for next 4-6 more weeks. Also, doctor prescribed me 'Strontium Renelate 2g' powder to be taken orally. I'm worried because I think doctors team who were treating me looked disappointed by the progress. I just want it to start healing.. i use to be very active guy, but I'm on bed since 22.01.2023.
Note, I'm male, non smoker, 34 years old. I use to have deficiency of vitamins because I always had severe pains in my shin bones, arms bones, joints when I masturbate.
Hey doc. I had a Tibia Plateau Fracture in July 16'. Had a great surgical team. Healed fast. Was back to work in October. I still have the hardware and recently jumped on it and got a tiny stress fracture. Just wondering if it will heal even though the previous trauma and metal
Hope your stress fracture is well behind you by now. I don't like the idea of leaving the hardware after the bone heals. I just broke my fibula and had a plate and 6 screws used to mend the bone. My understanding is that the plate actually compensates so much for the bone that the bone itself atrophies making it weaker. Probably best for the long term to have the hardware removed when possible and take it easy until everything is conditioned back to normal
Thanks doctor for your suggestions .. I faced an injury and got the same treatment u had .. Hopefully , I must follow your suggestions to be healed early ..
Hi I am 32 years old female from India. I had a humerus mid shaft fracture 3 months ago. Doctor applied cast and brace but the bone is not healing completely. Now the doctor is going to perform surgery which requires plate and bone grafting.
Do small movements of the foot insde the cast stop the healing process? After i broke my foot (3rd toe base ) i set the cast now its the 4th day wearing the cast, and i constantly move the broken part a little bit at a time.
Hi Dr. Geiger, I’m so glad that I found your video!! I’m 66 years old and I have a fractured hip and 4 fractures of my pelvis, the scariest part of it is, I don’t know how I broke them!! I do have osteoporosis and my doctor had given me Prolia injections for 2years in hopes of preventing any fractures but guess it didn’t help. My doctor did surgery on my hip fracture, he put 3 screws in the top part of the bone close to the ball of the hip. But he said they don’t do surgery on the pelvis because it isn’t a weight bearing bone, why? They finally found the reason for all my pain after almost a year!! So far my hip is still hurting me so bad that I have to use a wheelchair most of the time. The doctor says the hip is looking good but one side of my pelvis isn’t healing at all! I’m at an 8+ on the pain scale any time I try to walk! Please tell what to do😭
Hi, I have osteopenia and having been taking alendronate sodium for over 10 years and according to doctor it was atypical femur fracture which was bilateral due to prolong use of the above medicine. I had a fractured femur in Nov 2020. I had an emergency surgery and the doctor inserted a metal plate with screws. The surgery failed there was no bone union. I did a resurgery on may 2021 for my femur and he took out the early metal plate and fixed an angle metal plate with screws and did bone grafting for the bone loss on one side of the femur. It seems the side where bone grafting was done has still not healed and there is no bone growth. It hS been over 6 mths and it worries me a lot about the delayed bone union. Will I be able to walk. Will it ever heal. What exercises do I need to do to heal it faster? I am currently on wheelchair and using crutches. Only 50 per cent pressure allowed for the injured leg. I am 48 years old. Awaiting earlies reply doctor David. Thanks
So I had this 5 fractures in my right foot,3 tasrsals and 2 meta tarsal of 2,4th finger bones like 23 days ago and my doctor says there was an existence of stress fractures which have gone from acute to chronic, this will make the process the healing slower than usual
Hi, Dr David. I had a screw in my left scaphoid due to waist fracture from basketball game. The x-ray out of cast shows the fracture been healed and screw in a good position,so I m on phsio therapy for the next 8 weeks.Problem here is i can feel the screw just under the skin without push where the incision is(incision on palm side) 1.Will that make more damage if i falling on the ground in the future just like wreck a screw into my scaphoid? 2.Will the hole fill in after screw removal and how long it will be? 3.Will my scaphoid structurally weaker after screw removal?
Broke my ulna and the radius bones on my left wrist. The radius healed at 3 degrees off. So it didn’t heal straight on. My ulna bone has been SO painful! I was cast for six weeks and told that my bone was Healing slowly. I have diabetes and osteopenia. It’s been a total of three months and I’m still taking 600 mg ibuprofen daily just to sleep. My bones, muscles, ligaments and even my skin hurts. I’ve just started massages with essential oils and coconut oil - This really eases the pain. My huge question is HOW LONG WILL I SUFFER THIS PAIN?
Hi Dave last June I had a major break in my tibula bone by my ankle area also broke a lot of bones in my foot that had to be wired and screwed. I currently still in a lot of pain and there's talk about having a surgery on my toes that are not healing and it's been 7 months now since my accident. My appointments are being delayed because of covid-19. My body is very stiff and I still can't hardly walk. My doctor has ordered another CT scan this would be my third one. My question is am I going to have long-term issues because my healing science been so delayed? I know all the hospitals are understaffed but it's been way too long it seems like every second month I have an appointment. Do you think they had made a mistake during my surgery? should get a second opinion?
I broke my humerus about 3 months ago. It is still very painful. I go to physical therapy twice a week. I still cannot do the exercises on my own. I am 64 years old. I will be going back to the surgeon in a few weeks to see if it is healing correctly. I have a lot of pain and popping in my arm. It still is very hard for me to work at my job in retail. Before the fall I worked in the deli, now I only work at the self checkouts. I hope to get to the deli someday.
Its been over a year! I got surgery on my tibia and fibula got pins n rods... its been two days n its hurts dont know why but it feels like a burning stinging pain 😣
I broke a bone in my foot 6 months ago. Absolutely no healing. It swells everyday, very painful. Getting an MRI done because they say it may be more than just a broken bone. I guess the next step is surgery.
hello Dr David. I broke the lateral side of shoulder bone 4 months ago .. actually it was like a linear fracture not exactlly broken bone (I dont know if I point out any different) and i m still in pain .. So the question is how long should I ache ? thanks in anvance .. Best regards
After 6 months and my second ankle reconstructive surgery the bone behind the big toe hasn’t healed together. Now I may have to go back for another surgery. My doc told me it’s my biology and blood flow to it. Call me frustrated.
hi there, im 26 fractured my left femur was a massive fracture im worried i have 15 months already and only im still not fully healed theres a portion of the fracture that just doesnt seem to be healing...ive seen a doctor he says just to give it more time. im really worried i feel its too long now.please give me an advice
Hey guys, I'm Andrew. Just broke my lower right femur 2 weeks & 2 days ago. Just curious to know how you all healed up. Any reply would be much appreciated please..
Hi! Same here ive broken my right femur due to vehicular accident and its now my 5th month but then i went to my gradball (my therapist said i could but only apply 80% weightbear) and i did but i think i overdid it and now two days later my knee somewhat hurts is it normal? Have any of you experienced having pain after prolonged or excessive weight bear?
I injured my pubic bone last March at my gym. As a runner .. I was slow to go to my GP but I finally did and in May 2018 I had an MRI which was reported as severe inflammation but no fracture.. so I took meds and a short break and went back running. Pain never left so I took the MRI disc to a specialist who confirmed I had quite an obvious fracture. So I have not ran since end Oct 2018. I still have lower abdominal pain if I even walk at a fast pace. I am now concerned at 59 yrs that it will never heal and I will never get to run again.
Hello Sir, I'm in trhe mid 20's. had my humerus broken, but it healead without a hardware. It has been about 2 months and the question is can I go back to the gym for weight lifting ?
Hi i had an accident on 22 nd may 2018 and humerus bone, ulna and radius were broken and were operated witj plates now i want to know how long will it take to get healed
Same here. My radius and ulna was broken. I have plate and screw implanted. Been one month since then. I can move all my finger easy already. But I can't rotate my arms and flip my palm yet. I think. The plate is restricting my radius and ulna ratation.
it can take up to 3 yrs just dont take Ibuprofen ,take a Aleive for pain the best cream out there for this is CBD intense cream it works it takes out the soreness, swimming is great,ALSO WATER IS VERY INPORTANT AND VITAMIN A-D ,LOADS OF SALADS
Hi doctor, I'm 29yrs old and I had a olecranon surgery(ORIF) with TBW and screws, i am a smoker that includes weed too. It is completed 15days after the surgery. I don't have any swelling in my hand. Doctor advised me to use the bag till 10 week. Pls tell me what can i do to get my hand and elbow back as it was. I will strictly follow the instructions for it.
Had a Tib/Fib closed spiral Fx from rollerblading the week before my wedding. We are very active and did not cancel our honeymoon plans. Upon our return I visited the Ortho for 4week ex-rays and man was he mad. Wound up having surgery for several screws placed. So yea that is my own caused delayed healing.
Well I've just scrolled down through a bunch of asked for comments with not one reply, so I won't bother asking about my inter-trochanteric fracture then. You data mining?/bored?
I get hundreds of comments/questions each week, so I can't answer them all. Plus legally I cannot give medical advice, which I clearly explain in the description under the video. I answer the ones that ask for information in a general sense, but not ones that want to know exactly what they should do.
it can take up to 3 yrs just dont take Ibuprofen ,take a Aleive for pain the best cream out there for this is CBD intense cream it works it takes out the sorenees, swimming is great
This is just a week old so I'm going to follow this site and see what I can learn. Mine is called a broken fibula the Ortho doesn't think I'll need surgery. So for now just a big boot - for 8 weeks - because I'm 80 rather than 6 weeks. I'm physically fit or was till last week. Wish me luck and If you have one send me a Hogwarts bone mending spell.
Thanks for the video. I had a 4th metacarpal fracture about 8 weeks ago. I got X-rays today and the bone still seems to be broken after being immobilized with a cast for 4 weeks. I’m a 25 yo male non smoker. Do these type of fractures typically take longer to heal?
About 60 days ago I fell about 12 feet off of a roof and shattered my left femur. Have a titanium rod from near the hip to the knee. The surgeon says that the bone is not healing and wants now to do a complete hip replacement. I have a radiologist friend that says 60 days post surgery is too soon to make such a determination. At the time of the fall I was a healthy, active 75 year old male full time construction worker, non-smoker. How long would you wait for bone growth?
I’m sorry, but I can’t legally answer medical questions and offer medical advice online. I have created thousands of articles and videos that discuss almost any musculoskeletal injury that should help you.
Does anyone experience severe knee issues with these rods? Was hit by a car on foot and had multiple compound fractures (tib/fib) but my knees have been the biggest issue when it comes to mobility. Going down stairs with no rails is impossible for instance.
I fractured the distal humerus bone without dislocation 2 weeks ago. Doctor said it is not fully fractured but a crack and that I would need to have plaster for 2-4 weeks. I allready feel much better after 2 weeks and im hoping I can take of the plaster tomorrow. I have local pain on the two sides of the elbow joint and inflamed muscle.
I suffered a fractured tib and fib (Open) and broken hand 3 weeks ago had emergency surgery day of car accident. Had 2nd and last surgery this past Tuesday. Hand is 80% there on healing as for foot area alot of swelling and shooting pains....thank you for the video
Dr.'s use terms that are not generally understood by patients. Recently I was told to walk in my boot "as tolerated" . I have a high pain threshold so that seems ambiguous. I can push as much as needed but don't want to actually do harm to the healing process.
I fell on ice and have a micro fracture in my elbow and have more pain now than a week after the fall. I am non smoker, female, 48 years old, not overweight. But I have some inflammation in a frontal tooth.
6 weeks5th metarsal, non unioin. I am angry becuse i told dr i have osteproosis and its near jones fracture point. he put me in boot whch never felt secure. i wish i got a cast. i will see what he says today.i pray for healing. i want to walk again.
I got shot 3 times , stapped 4 times and during the torture they ran my hands with a Hugh vehicle it shattered the bones in my hand related to moving my 2 middle fingers but after a surgery they put a plate on it but now it's fully recovered but one of the bullets broke my femur it got shattered and now I have this 7 nail fixator on the from the beginning of my hip to the end of it and it's more than 4 months now but yet there's little bit of progress when it comes to my femur fracture I've stopped going to uni and work for now and it's honestly depressing my life is just really hard rn and I don't know if I can ever be able to function normally again
I shattered my shin tibia and fibula my doctor said I have a non union... he got me a exogen bone stimulator and I need to find out how to heal it.. it has been 7 months
I'm 30 and I just fractured a bone for the first time ever. My ulna bone, closer to the wrist. It's been just over a month now and new bone is starting to grow. I did not need surgery but at the current time there is slight angulation of the piece closest to my wrist. Hoping for a good outcome. Would really love to start weight lifting again soon.
I fractured my radius when i was playing football, i was not feeling very much pain when it happened and when i went to the doctor he told me please try and turn your wrist around like a normal one, i could do it but with some pain, they told me that it is a dislocation and they massaged it and told me to keep doing it, after a week the situation was worsening and when i went back to the hospital, they requested me to take an x-ray and a found that it was a fracture , the doctor decided to give me non surgical treatment by twisting the born and i took another x-ray to see whether it had take its normal position luckily it did. i was put on P.O.P for one month and it was removed i have taken one month and two weeks but i still fill pain but not all that too much and some times i try to turn the wrist in its normal way but i feel like there are some interlocking spaces before it goes to its normal position. what could be the problem and the solution to it. i was not doing heavy work with it bust just sweeping with a local broom broom
I fractured my greater tuberosity and it was described as an abduction fracture. I wore the sling. Honestly. I quit the sling due to constant movement and pain caused by the sling. My fracture healed and my arm extension is great. You have to keep your arm down and against your stomach naturally. I went all natural w very little intervention
I broke my toe down in my foot and the doc doesn’t want to do surgery even though it’s fully snapped, not touching in the slightest and has a peice doming off it. They recon just put a boot on and leave it for a few months then come back. I can can’t do this no more it’s been two weeks and I can walk on my heel and stuff I honestly just think I should get surduty. My moms friend recons that I will defiantly need surgery otherwise it won’t heal. I really need to get back out there and riding my horses.
Fracture a 40 left femur bullet impact nerve also affected the date of the accident was 12 May 2020 and the bone is a stick king together I am using exogen bone grow
i have ostrogenisis by birth and faced almost 30 above fractures and i have 15 surgeries of my leg bones is there any permanent cure of this disease in this world ??
Hi Doctor I'm Donard Mwambazi frm Zambia 🇿🇲 My challenge is I was involved in road accident and my leg🦵was broken with fracture called tibia, I stayed with POP over 2 months before removing it but nothing happened and hv been feeling pains mostly 3 months 2 weeks i started feeling like I can walk and I'm i started walking a bit by bit but pains still i van feel it
I was in a car wreck and was hit head on. I was driving and I ended up breaking one of my left toes and shattered my right ankle and broke my tibia bone. I ended getting pins and rods in my leg. My leg is slow to heal, my doctor told me. it might be because of to much sugar intake
Broken fibula pretty bad , the bottom of the tibia and dislocated my foot to where it was pointing 90* the wrong way 😳. I'm on month 2, and doc just prescribed a bone stimulator because the x-ray isn't looking the way he wants with my fibula. Still keeping foot elevated for blood flow.
Hi there! Similar situation here. Complete tib/fib breaks. Rod & screws/pins were inserted in the tibia. It's been over 2.5 months & x-rays show NO healing/fusing back together. Basically the same images from the day of the break & surgery. He just ordered a bone stimulator device which I'm waiting on insurance approval for. Did the stimulator help you? Hope you're doing better!! 😊
I have a jones fracture had surgery in August went to dr a week ago he stated it’s delay healing according to my dr it was a really bad break my little toe i’m a home health aide I can’t go back to work until my foot is cleared I’ve been out since August I’m frustrated because I need to go back to work I’ve been in the walking boot since the middle of August he just gave me additional 60 days which brings me to November I’m definitely not happy
I removed my leg plaster on the 4th day which I had to keep for 3 weeks... Coz my skin turned purple it was irritating.... I had a fracture ... Now it's 2 months I am suffering lil discomfort while walking...... I can't even visit to tat doc.... 😭.... I wish tat doc was as qualified as you are.
I have a nonunion of the first proximal phalangeal base of my big toe. I broke it 18 months ago. I’ve been told my only real option is to fuse the joint.

Thanks
Im 13 my bone is half way connected in 2 weeks its still not healing the doctor said it needs pins but i can move my fingers but not thumb as much
When i move my fingers i feel something move
Hello Dr.David...is it really true that the complete healing of jones fracture is about 2 to 3 months?
i have a clavicle fracture at right part. i chose non surgical in healing. im on my 3rd week now from the date i met an accident. what should i do?
It's expensive but as we found out so is injury lol
Oh I just had surgery little more than a week ago.
HI BRO, U GOOD NOW????
how are you now?
hey guys 21 months on and 4 surgeries later i am finally back to work! i ended up finding out my first surgeon stuffed my surgery up, goes to show that a second opinion does help!
@@jordon7709 lmao i thought you're dead. Damn man, that's good to hear. Good luck on your future 🤣❤️
Hi,you 100%right same like me I'm self-employed and I will have to put food on the table so will have to work and now it's disturbing my healing
Bullcrap illegals get Free Healthcare.. if you Don't qualify your not poor ...
Me right now had to say fuck it and just get back to it 😒
🙌🏼 I’m not old, but as someone who works a job where I work with my hands, nit being about to walk & getting disability payments that doesn’t even cover my rent, it’s been a hard 6 months.
I wish you luck I’m 21 dealing with old injury and new ones, been on my ass for months
Hip fracture at 53. Not healing. I did physical therapy. Started going numb knee pain right before hip break. Doctors can’t figure it out. So frustrating and sorry for all those out there suffering.
Did it heal now
@@kaedefernandez6182 . No. It hasn’t.
How it is? Is it getting good by now
@@kaedefernandez6182 . So kind of you. Honestly no. July will make 2 years. Still using a hip kit.
Prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Have you considered changing your diet?
Facts
Disability insurance

With every day of physio exercise my leg gets stronger again and I can already put 65kg on it, I weigh 85kg.. not bad?
I broke my femur 3 and a half months ago its getting stronger but can't put full body weight on it yet.

You need megadose vitamin D you are welcome!!!

Hope you are well..

Very similar situation here, glad we made it out alive. Wish you a speedy recovery

@@manamansden7456 Hello same bone meta tarasal has broke on left side of my foot

After few weeks that a fracture I had in the febula (put in some metals too)was not starting to heal, I started following some basic steps and the healing process went like into a turbo mode:
Thanks Kobi!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Hello doctor, could you please describe about the open grade fracture-3?
Had a broken hand injury an was told that I needed surgery. I then asked the doctor if there is any chance to heal the bone without surgery. I was then told that it’s an option to just get a splint and see whether the bone heals without surgery. After only 3 months of constant rehab and a good diet my hand was back to normal, if not stronger than before. Always get a second opinion before making big surgical decisions, although sometimes its not an option to leave surgery.
My biggest advice is to commit to at least 3-4 months of daily rehab including exercises every day and heat therapy also worked really well to losen up the rusty joints💪

I have a closed oblique fracture of the tibia. How long can i heal my bone.
20 weeks and beyond
How are you?
Hi I am 32 years old female from India. I had a humerus mid shaft fracture 3 months ago. Doctor applied cast and brace but the bone is not healing completely.
Now the doctor is going to perform surgery which requires plate and bone grafting.
Do small movements of the foot insde the cast stop the healing process? After i broke my foot (3rd toe base ) i set the cast now its the 4th day wearing the cast, and i constantly move the broken part a little bit at a time.
I’m wondering this too! How’d your foot turn out?
Don’t move it not good for it
@@CaesarAugustus. perfectly fine in my case
Please tell what to do😭
Nutrition is what i would start looking at. High protein, collogen, sillica, bpc 157, vitamins. Hopefully your already healed.
Hi,
I have osteopenia and having been taking alendronate sodium for over 10 years and according to doctor it was atypical femur fracture which was bilateral due to prolong use of the above medicine.
Thanks
how r u now??
How are you now. Did it healed?
So I had this 5 fractures in my right foot,3 tasrsals and 2 meta tarsal of 2,4th finger bones like 23 days ago and my doctor says there was an existence of stress fractures which have gone from acute to chronic, this will make the process the healing slower than usual
Hello in my left foot meta tarasal was broke last 2 week ago doctor had done cast on foot it will ?
Hi, Dr David. I had a screw in my left scaphoid due to waist fracture from basketball game. The x-ray out of cast shows the fracture been healed and screw in a good position,so I m on phsio therapy for the next 8 weeks.Problem here is i can feel the screw just under the skin without push where the incision is(incision on palm side)
1.Will that make more damage if i falling on the ground in the future just like wreck a screw into my scaphoid?
No answer? Did you find out in your own? Hope you’re ok.
How are you doing now?
Its been over a year! I got surgery on my tibia and fibula got pins n rods... its been two days n its hurts dont know why but it feels like a burning stinging pain 😣
Staycee, I broke the same bones. How was your experience? And any tips and timelines you can offer than can give me some piece of mind?
going through same thing ilizarov and it pains really bad

Hey guys,
I'm Andrew.
I’m 31yrs from Liberia 🇱🇷and I had a car accident 2021 October I broke my femur 🦴 and did a surgery but I’m still feeling pain
Hi i had an accident on 22 nd may 2018 and humerus bone, ulna and radius were broken and were operated witj plates now i want to know how long will it take to get healed
Broken bone hifive bro same here
Same here bro humerus mid shaft 5 month completed non surgery not Heald yet

My tibial plateau fracture still hurts when I walk stairs , am 6 months post op

Fracture Type?
I answer the ones that ask for information in a general sense, but not ones that want to know exactly what they should do.
tamsinthai ,same here.hehehehe I would choose to seek and get my injury checked by the "REAL DOCTOR".
it can take up to 3 yrs just dont take Ibuprofen ,take a Aleive for pain the best cream out there for this is CBD intense cream it works it takes out the sorenees, swimming is great
This is just a week old so I'm going to follow this site and see what I can learn. Mine is called a broken fibula
the Ortho doesn't think I'll need surgery.
Carlos Solorzano hi Carllos is your injury any better and what did you do?
Ya Allah bless with Shahaadah Amiin.
Hi doctor I fractured my ulna bone I feel that it was not stablized properly it has been 6 weeks+ please student
Suggest me something 🙏🙏🙏🙏
How is it now?
How are you now. I am 5 weeks out and osteopenia. Boot.
Good luck!
Sounds like a lack of motion therapy. Gotta push through the pain
I fractured my greater tuberosity and it was
described as an abduction fracture.
I wore the sling. Honestly. I quit the sling due to constant movement and pain caused by the sling. My fracture healed and my arm extension is great. You have to keep your arm down and against your stomach naturally.
I went all natural w very little intervention
I can't believe some people comment that don't like the hand writing .
Hi Doctor I'm Donard Mwambazi frm Zambia 🇿🇲
My challenge is I was involved in road accident and my leg🦵was broken with fracture called tibia, I stayed with POP over 2 months before removing it but nothing happened and hv been feeling pains mostly
3 months 2 weeks i started feeling like I can walk and I'm i started walking a bit by bit but pains still i van feel it
I was in a car wreck and was hit head on.
I broke my calavical a few months ago and I no longer need my sling but it's still out of place
I broke mine 2 weeks ago. How many weeks after you no longer need a sling? how many weeks did the pain let go? Tia
