  • In February 2011 an ocelot was photographed in the Huachuca Mountains of southern Arizona. It was only the 3rd confirmed ocelot sighting in Arizona in the last 50 years. Arizona Game and Fish wildlife manager Brad Fulk was able to also take video of this rare and beautiful animal.

wish I had the chance to see one when I lived in Arizona but I was in N Phoenix so too far north. I have seen mountain lions around dynamite and Tatum, that was awesome.

I, too, think it is not an ocelot. I had an acquaintance in texas who had an ocelot and it was less cobby and more slender. I don't know why this guy had it. It really scratched the heck out of
me and I had to leave. Somebody below said they thought it was a Margay. I'm not sure what those look like, but I'd say this one was too. How has the border wall affected the migration of young males and therefore the species between Mexico and Arizona? We used to have jaguars in California, but they are now extinct in our state.

What a beautiful animal. I fear that we will lose animals like the Jaguar and Ocelot in our deserts and grasslands of Arizona if the border wall is built.

Josef Trumpeldor: Being a nature lover, you have so many things wrong with what you said. I don’t believe you are a true nature lover if you wouldn’t want some new animals popping up on their own without being stopped. I would love to just see bobcats around our area.

It looks more like a Margay. The ocelot is more robust, more heavily built, less of a kitty face. A more surprising find, I think the Margay has a more limited distribution.

Okay, that’s not an ocelot. That’s a similar cat that we have here in Arizona as well. It’s called a Margay, they have a rounder face and body then the slender ocelot, they also have smaller eyes compared to the ocelot who had large eyes. I am a native here and I’ve seen both and I can say that is certainly a Margay and not an Ocelot

We have a small population of ocelot at the Laguna Atascosa wildlife reserve in south Texas, and I have to agree this is definitely not an ocelot. It just look more plump and furry , plus the shape of its head is less pointy than the ocelot in south Texas.

wanderlei silva they are actually probably equally matched, although I think the ocelot can grow slightly larger. They would never fight because they can smell each other and avoid. If they fight it wouldn’t be to the death because they know they would cause horrible injury to one another.
