Pretty sure the bear followed him because he kept saying "hey bear". Bear was all like "yeah what's up"?
Right, like why is he talking?

He was baiting the bear, i don't think the bear was in attack mode at all. It was simply a way to make a video and sell a product

There was no act here. The bear was following him and he was making no attempt to mask his intentions.
@@BPRescue I can see some humor in the remark. Dodging about left to right seemed at first an uncertainty working in the bears mind, like thinking it over or weighing the situation should I chance this strange something alone in the woods. Nonchalantly climbing the trees made an outward appearance of the bear being initially unimpressed. It was just the look of it at first resembling an act of disinterest, in like oh ..nothing to see here.

Judging by these comments i think everybody should go out in the woods more often. We would have a lot less ignorant people that think bears are just curious and playful big dogs. Bears dont "play" with humans. That bear was sizing him up and the dude was giving every indication he was prey. If he didn't have bear spray and kept doing what he was doing he would have 100% gotten mauled. That bear was getting closer and more confident every second. Never take a chance. Young bear or not, there's always instinct and that first time. He's big enough to be deadly. Facing the bear, walking backward is the safe thing to do. He may have been attacked if he turned his back. Talking to the bear was a way of trying to keep him at a distance. Better to hit the bear so he got a snoot full of spray. I live in black bear country. That bear was an adolescent, just being curious. You don't have to jump around and act crazy but if you would have raised your voice and yelled at it, it would have scattered fairly quickly. Also you could have sprayed the grass in front of you. As soon as it got a snort it would have backed right off.
Excellent idea, that should be standard. It did look like a juvenile to me. I disagree with the commenter that said the bear was in predatory mode. Don't think so, but that's why you have the pepper spray. 💕
I disagree. Because if you cause it pain without touching it you can be sure that bear will most likely never attack a human ever in its life. It will associate humans with intense pain.

The spray for the bear gave him a lesson that you don't have to wait for the spray, but devour the talking food right away. 🥹

I believe that the most humane thing you can do for a bear that is so interested in you to follow you, is to discourage that behaviour IMMEDIATELY. If yelling loudly and waving your arms (while holding your bear spray) doesn’t work, you must use the spray. This way in the future, the bear will keep its distance from humans and all will stay safe…both the bear and the humans. This is just my opinion though.

Bears react differently but true you should never wait this long to use spray and yell etc
The bears behavior ie climbing the trees huge sign of aggression the black bear climbs trees for comfort and to avoid attacks from dominant black bears of an area of the first time he started to tree himself as this is an unconfident adolescent, he stood his ground ie used bear spray, used excessive loud noises etc etc this bear would not have stocked him so far! The further he let him the greater the danger he allowed to himself and other possible hikers coming from the opposite direction. If your alive and screaming and he's chowing down on your now severed leg, he won't look up until he's ready for your other leg.
They don't have feelings for you.
My understanding (from watching another video) is that bear spray should be deployed well beyond the close range this bear gets. The other video made mention of how quickly a charging bear can cover ground and the idea of bear spray is to lay out clouds along the bear's intended path, ahead of the bear so that it has to go through the stuff to reach you. Apparently, this large bear spray canisters has some decent range. And, as noted in this video, as soon as the individual deployed the spray, the bear was off and running, so I think I'd opt for the quick deployment of any bear heading my way.
I have one that sprays 40 feet. The thing about this situation is, if the guy would've been loud and aggressive rather than his soft, friendly, "hey, bear", he probably would've scared the bear off without even needing the spray. Black bears are way more skittish than most people realize. But outside of that, he definitely waits wayyyyy too long and lets the bear get way too close before he FINALLY sprays. And it only took a quick tap of the trigger.

Eh, I’d never shoot a bear. There are a lot more humans on earth than bears, and they’re just doing what they do. We have our own numbers to spare.
@@cgimovieman you're funny af. The only reason why you shoot a bear is if it tries to attack you. You're right, we can definitely spare you.
I think an indispensable skill in woods-craft is to be able to "read" animals' behavior...to be able to discern what they are thinking when a human/animal encounter occurs. My interpretation of this encounter is that the man did well to back up slowly in order to show the bear he himself had no aggressive intentions. However, after 50 feet of that approach, it became evident he had convinced the bear he had no evil intentions, that the bear was not in the least intimidated by him, and that now the bear was going to see how much he could impose himself on the man. When an animal develops that mindset, further retreat only reinforces further imposition by the animal. Now the animal begins to interpret further retreat as increasing fear in the man, which results in escalating aggression by the animal. I would have taken a stand at about the 50--75 foot mark and shown the bear that I am not helpless...that I have defensive weapons that can make him regret his aggression. This is, in fact, how it turned out anyway. But...had the guy waited too long, and the bear done a full out charge, it might have been too late. After all, how far can you walk backwards through woods without tripping...and triggering a charge?
Absolute nonsense

Maan!! That bears sneaky acting like "im not chasing you im looking at this tree and this tree and this tree"
The way he had many chances where he could’ve very easily made one wrong move walking backwards and tripping on one of the many logs on the ground😭 I was so worried he would fall on his back and the bear would come storming
Yea, we've been primed for that scenario by countless horror movies where someone falls and can't get up or the car suddenly won't start.
That's what I was thinking too
Ehh, he was walking very slowly. And likely looking backwards more often than you can tell with the camera. Not very easy to trip when you are being calm and slow like this dude was.
Tripping while doing the walking backwards thing is a massive hazard and shouldn't be discounted.
It was quite intense.that big bear moved fast .I thought it was going to pounce from the tree.the guy dealt with this scenario very well.
Spraying a perpendicular "fence " in front of the bear with the spray would have stopped the pursuit in the beginning. This is an example of how to get eaten.
Yep
That young bear was getting bolder and bolder, it was thinking of attacking you from the moment it saw you but was intimidated; none of his prey stand upright like that, the closest reference on how to take that animal down for food would be charging the trees like he’s doing (could also be an instinctual response to test your intimidation) but in short he was out foraging and when he saw you was thinking of making a human sandwich.
No, he just looked curious. Believe me if he wanted to hunt him down he would.
@@E1evenMusic Not sure about bears but many animals do what Shane said, they see if you're a prey or a predator by falsely charging you
@@Hamza-uh6oy by that spray, he thought humans are predators. Hopefully he never wants to attack humans. Lol
bears climb trees when they feel insecure
From what I've gathered I don't think there are many animals that would actually eat humans as we quite literally taste horrible to them but hunger is always the dominant side when close to starvation so you can never be careful.
2:23 save your time
I'm glad that the spray worked for him, but as someone who has lived his whole life in Grizzly country, I can promise that bear was just curious. Had it been set on really attacking the spray usually does not stop the attack. None of us around here would ever trust our lives to that stuff. When it comes to protecting yourself from a potential bear attack, a gun is always going to be your best defense.
I agree with you that bear looked young and curious. He was using the trees to run up if he had to. And a yell and a bluff attack on him would’ve sent him running. But I don’t agree that bear spray wouldn’t work on other bears. I’ve seen other videos on attacking bears and it does work. I hate people that guns are first option. We know you’re scared so maybe stay out of their home?
And this bear will always stay away from people so next scaredy-cat with a gun hopefully won’t shoot him.
@@HayleysComet3 i feel like you say that but once you’re actually out there, you will NOT feel safe because essentially you are just prey. And what if a bear comes to your home? Then what? We are mammals too and thats my territory, wherever i choose to walk is my domain (as is with every animal in their head) and the bear will quickly learn or perish. A gun has saved my life on 2 occasions out in west texas wild and i wouldnt go out without one, it’s like going to a warzone with a knife.
@@wodwarrior8463 I understand your fear, bears definitely are scary but I would trust the bear spray over a firearm any day. Bullets don’t always stop bears especially if you miss. But spray is easy to get to the target and from what I’ve seen it works great.
Most experts say you have less than 2 seconds before an attacking bear is on top of you ripping your face off. If you're extremely well trained with a sidearm (like navy seal status) then a handgun is a useful tool against an actual attack. Otherwise, bear spray is more effective
@@Mister.Bone_Saw I agree. I carry my 44 magnum revolver, ready at the hip, whenever I am out in nature... fishing, camping, hunting, or even just going for a short hike.
Bear was like, "What's up homie. Ah...You walkin towards the water hole too? Cool, while we walk you can teach me some human words."
Human: "Hey Bear"
Isn't "Hey, Bear", what they've told us to say??? As well as back away slowly, and never, ever run away??? Are the rules changing??? I would think that whatever you did to walk away unhurt was the right thing to do! Isn't each situation different???
If you sound like you're weak and afraid and stumble backwards it's not going to leave. You have to strike fear into it. It's an animal.
I wonder if an airhorn would make it back off.
@@Rhaspun yeah, I think an air horn would definitely do the trick. Bear spray is still king though. Even better than a gun imho.
Nope...do not challenge or provoke an animal to fight you it will get angry and charge you.
@@exalkalibor924 Ok, you ask it nicely to go away and report back😂
We’re all animals
I don't know much but it seems like if you have a deterrent that you should use it sooner and not keep backing up for so long. If you're walking backwards you're more likely to fall and then you'd be dead. Just remember when in bear country the best deterrent is to take a slow Uncle with you.
The longer her backed up,
the higher the RUclips views
Very impressed with how calm you were trying to give the young youngling a chance to walk away.
Something Anakin clearly didn't do
He was baiting the youngling. He is attempting to gain the Dark Side powers.
This is a video on exactly how you shouldn’t talk to a bear that wants to eat you
Everyone has an opinion and every situation is different. I think this was handled well. My impression is that the bear is young and more curious than anything. I probably would have sprayed him much earlier. All that backing up was risky. Hopefully yogi will now have strong enough negative experience with humans that he will keep his distance. Thanks for posting this, it is very educational.
Exactly my thought! Was waiting for momma to come out. Lol
They guy literally said he was baiting the bear on Facebook. He was doing a tutorial which bear sprays work best and said always try them out on younger bears first like he did in that video. It was very informative at least now I know which bear spray to mess with the neighbors dogs and cats in my neighborhood lol
@@SoulShadowXYwell I am not impressed to hear this. If he truly was baiting them and subjecting any to the misery of the spray just for his ‘tests’ then I am quite disgusted by it. If this was in my area and I had more info I would probably have passed it on to the local CO.
@@stevehamilton3181 How else are they supposed to test it? It’s unpleasant but its not like its lethal.
@@stevehamilton3181At first I felt the same way but then again they have to test it somehow and this experience will likely condition the bear into being more fearful of humans and less likely to get into close proximity with people, which could potentially be dangerous for both people and the bear itself.

Yeah that's bot how it works. Bears are much more intelligent than most other animals you'll come across in the forest, they understand things like flanking and sneaking up on people.
The LAST thing you want is for a bear to think you're trying to circle him and flank him. He did exactly what you're supposed to do.

The hiker's voice when talking to the bear sounded almost inviting, like how you'd coax a dog to COME you. Just the opposite of what he wanted.
Anyone else feel nervous watching this? This was intense.
I had a similar problem on Eglin AFB in 1990. Was walking backward just the same as this guy. Just didn’t have bear spray; only a 12 ga. shotgun. After walking like that for about 1/4 mile, I was beginning to get worried about dark setting in. I still had about 1.5 miles to go to get to my truck to drive out. I decided to stand my ground and try to yell and warn it off. It never left and got closer… I shot the rabbit three times before I felt safe. Never underestimate the danger presented by those cute ears and tail.
Last rabbit I saw @ hunting season. I called out to my cousin because there's no way a rabbit is worth cleaning to eat!
The whole family joined in pointing it out and got my cousin his 1st rabbit. Also his last, smart man!
Monty Python taught you well.
🤡
No one lives through an encounter with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. I call this story a fake.
@dammitdan, you would be correct, but this was the swamp rabbit that attacked Jimmy Carter. Not the one you mention. Everyone knows the swamp rabbit isn’t as tough.
He didn’t actually want to have to use the spray - as it would agitate the bear. He was trying to avoid any confrontation with the bear. He did everything right. Critics here don’t know anything about what to do in such instances.
Yeah! The spray agitated him so much that he immediately turned tail and ran!
When the bear started jumping onto trees, he was just practicing for what he was planning to do to the person. Notice how he started doing that as he got closer and closer to the person. The next time he jumped, it was going to be on the person.
It looks like a bear that has interacted with people a lot and probably been fed by people.
Um no
This guy cracks me up!
He's the kind of guy that wants to sing show tunes on karaoke, in a biker bar.
Imagine, by mistake he carried his body spray thinking he is holding a bear spray...
That unattended body spray's tagline..:
"Scent your way to unforgettable"! 😂
The speed and the ability to climb the tree is shocking honestly 😯
He literally kept calling the bear. What a natural air head.
The thing to keep in mind here (watch again), every time this guy put a tree or bush between him and the bear, it advanced on him. It kept distance all other times.
“Hey Bear” is the long lost Beatles masterpiece.
I'll hand it to you. Way to stay calm and focused until the bear really forced the issue. I'm afraid nerves would've made me let a blast of that off at that carnivore way earlier. Being hunted is terrifying.
