Insane me wants to get 2 copies of this set so I can have the original layout and then have that modular extension and really turn this Fortress into a FORTRESS I just wish the Imperial Flagship from 2016 wasn't nearly 1,000 dollars USED. I would love to have that ship docked at this fortress.
Now that's an interesting idea. We may have to build our Imperial Flagship and dock it. Then have it attacked by the Black Seas Barracuda and the one from Pirates of Barracuda Bay. Epic!
@@buildingtogether4171 Oh please make a video on it or post pictures! I would very much love to see how set would look in this glorious state! I've been trying to plan things out, figure out things about how the set works visually and it feels like with two copies, the second copy of the main structure with the ramp would probably need to be set aside, this more the 'purist' approach of course, I'm sure you can remodel that structure into something else. But the way how I picture it in my mind feels like combining the Fortress with the Imperial Trading Post.
This is a must have since I couldn't afford the original set. I bought Baracuda Bay , the Castle , and Im going to get this one for sure. I just hope that Lego will remake some of the older theme in smaller sets so people can afford them.
I agree 100%. Wish they would make “battle packs” for both the pirate and castle themes. Seems like it would be a worthwhile add on that I would certainly purchase.
The original Baracuda, and El Dorado are my only old vintage sets I have together on display. I likely got the most play value out of them of all my collection with included many beloved space, castle and city sets. My first glance I was kind of shocked just how much, as in too much looked like the original, and in some cases worse than the original since it uses gates and plates for doors instead of the classic pieces which are nice and "smooth" to the look. Also the openings are missing that classic aesthetic and the squares look kind of bland, and lacking as much yellow. I thought, oh well, it looks so much like my old model, why would I want to get this? Also thinking a larger base plate would have been really nice for this set. but seeing it open up and form a long line is pretty sweet. That is where the play value is at. I really like they added a ship and that was in my mind an essential move for this to be a success. I like the inner detailing, upgraded crane, and tall pier are really great and overall liking it more and more. Some things I wish they would have done differently is use the tucan instead of the parrot (pirates are parroted and sharked and even skeletoned to the max, other animals are ok and fun too LEGO....) and I think this would have been a great way to introduce the new sea turtle mold in another set. The monkey is ok... not a 4 sword wielding beast, but a little mistievious trouble maker who likes to untie ropes it seems. I am curious if any of the pirates are new prints. I look forward to seeing reviews in person and comparison to the original to see how well they can blend together for a large set. I also think they should consider a 3rd faction of merchants for this line, something for the pirates and imperials to protect and try to plunder! Overall Its hits a lot of the check marks and is priced reasonably, Its not quite on par yet with the production of the Lions knights castle in how they blended the nostalgia with new building techniques and giving an original interpretation, but I think people will but 2 of these and make a really epic and active royal port.
We definitely plan on doing a comparison of the two. It'll be a great look at vintage Lego compared to the modern 18+ set. Julia really likes the open variation of the set. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I like the modularity.
@@buildingtogether4171 I think both sets have things to offer that make each have their own plus sides, The OG has a cleaner more readable look. I really like the way it opens up, and really that is the saving factor that may justify me to get it, because I like how it creates this long "bigger" fort. That does make it rather shallow though because it looks like past the gate is only 2 studs deep. There is also a lot of the interior we have not seen yet (why not show us?) so that could have some surprises. The one thing that does not make sense is the tall pier on the far side. Though I love the idea of it and looks cool, it leads to basically no where that a ship would dock to on that stand alone tower that only accesses the main build by a top bridge. I think it should be attached to the small docks. The real beauty of this will be its MOC potential as it gives so many rock pieces. 2 of these together would be fantastic but kind of out of reach, since LEGO prices are so extreme.
Kudos for pretending like you might not be buying it when asking yourself that question. We all know we are going to be at the Lego store on July 7th shoving a handful of cash in the poor Lego employees face whilst foaming at the mouth and shouting 'take my money' 🤣
Hahahaha, I think you'll be right in the end. The ONLY hang up for me is the Lego budget. June was harsh on it, and I'm curious about this upcoming massive Gringott's.
This video had the one opening in the Lego catalog and I seem to have all but this. Not going anymore to hunt down the original. This is maybe the best remake.
I prefer the old fort with the raised baseplate, but I really want the ship in the new one x3, Mb I can find someone selling just the ship after it releases
I might buy two of this. and try to make the second into a Imperial trading post
Great idea
Hits me right in the nostalgia (this might have even been my first big Lego set…), so I’m even less able to resist this than the Lion Knights Castle…
Castle was my first love, beginning with the Black Falcon's Fortress. But Pirates were right up there starting in 1989.
Even at twice the price I could not resist the castle... first LEGO bought in over 25 years

I met a guy who had it…it’s freaking insane
Looks so cool I’m loving it! This and the lions knight castle getting soon !
Great! These are both great sets for '90s Lego fans.

I wanted it and picked it up to get the recent GWP Space Set. In my world, that is a win/win.
Man I need this set!!!

Awesome video. This is what I needed as a 87 born...
It looks more like 2015 pirates than 89
The dark red gives off that vibe. That they put yellow in it helps with the retro feel, but they definitely cut back on it.
great video :)
Thanks! We appreciate the kind words!
I have the new set
I don’t really care for the female add in’s… Also this said available for VIPS July 7th, then July 1st, now July 4rth.
I think they settled on July 4, which is a weird release date here in the US.
@@buildingtogether4171 yeah, just can’t figure out for the life of me why here in the U.S. they changed the date three times. It’s crazy.
How do you know they identify as male and female????? 😂
