      With how many criminals there are on the loose, and how much funding the police get, it’s extra concerning that LEGO city doesn’t have very many hospitals. They used to be just as common as the police stations and fire departments during the 90s and early 00s. Shame.

      @@yoavbenclaudia3073 The criminals only steal donuts, and no one carries weapons, so no one actually gets hurt :) I think the Lego police have a deal with the crooks to let them run rampant, because that way the Lego City Council will fund an endless string of fancy police stations, helicopters, cruisers, etc.

    I imagine the pricing on the X-Mansion would reflect licensing and the inclusion of a bunch of minifgures. (I'd much rather pay less and get no minifigures with sets.) The Victorian-style botanical garden looks really good, if a bit redundant with the earlier Friends set.

    • @buildingtogether4171
      @buildingtogether4171  Месяц назад

      Absolutely, there has to be a licensing "tax" included in the cost. The Sanctum Sanctorum was a pretty good value, though, despite being licensed.

      @@buildingtogether4171 I was fortunate to get that one at a reasonable price. I have zero interest in Marvel at this point due to superhero movie/tv fatigue, but it's a cool-looking building that fits in architecturally with some other modulars I have.
      But a common question in the community that only Lego could answer is: do those licensing fees jack up the prices of particular product lines or sets, or are they amortized across all Lego sets?

    and there's also the burrow in september and next year a building from twilight and the Italian Reviera. They're probably not modular compatible but I don't care, it's nice that TLG makes more buildings outside of the modular collection.

      @buildingtogether4171  Месяц назад

      Agreed. I love buildings so much more than vehicles. I'm very curious to see how the Italian Riviera turns out. It likely won't be modular compatible, but the possibility of it being great is very high (kinda like the Viking Village).

  • @WeirdBrain
    @WeirdBrain Месяц назад +1

    For the Icons modular building for 2025, here are a few ideas I have for what it could be (These are more like wishes than predictions, but I tried to keep them realistic):
    - Mini mart/Bodega
    - Gym/Health Club (Kinda like a YMCA)
    - Antique Store
    - Shopping mall

    • @buildingtogether4171
      @buildingtogether4171  Месяц назад

      Interesting! The shopping mall could be similar to the old Grand Emporium (but hopefully more exciting on the exterior). There was a gym above the Downtown Diner, but we have so many gyms here in the US that it wouldn't be unusual to have 2 in the same downtown.
      I really like the antique store idea as well as the bodega. The Green Grocer was the closest we got to that and it came out in 2008!

    • @WeirdBrain
      @WeirdBrain Месяц назад

      @@buildingtogether4171 I'm envisioning the shopping mall as looking a lot more modern than Grand Emporium. Maybe 70s or 80s style architecture, with a large glass wall on one side to allow easy viewing of the inside (There's a mall in Washington called Southcenter, this is where I got the idea for the glass wall if you want a real life reference). Obviously it would have a food court, a staple of any mall. I imagine the first floor would have the food court and maps/directory, and the remaining 2 floors would be dedicated to stores. Some ideas I have for stores are a clothing store, toy store, Lego store, and sporting goods store.
      As for the gym/health club, I think what sets my idea apart from the one in the diner is that it would be a dedicated gym, not just a small gym as part of another building. It would probably have stuff like treadmills, weights, locker rooms, a sauna, a basketball court, a rock climbing wall, and a swimming pool.
      For the antique store and bodega, I think it would probably have the business on the first floor, with apartments or other businesses on the remaining 2 floors. I could see the antique store maybe taking up 2 floors with just one floor of apartments above it, but I don't think I've ever seen a mini mart with multiple floors, so that definitely would only take up one floor.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Месяц назад

      Worth noting that the Pantasy bakery modular has a cool gym on the upper floor. (Which is pretty funny since it's located over a pastry shop!)

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Месяц назад

      @@WeirdBrain I really like the indoor mall idea, which would appeal to Lego fans of, ahem, a certain age :) I wonder about scale, though. Lego always plays it fast and loose with scale issues, but to create anything like a believably sized mall, they would need to make a really huge modular. And that would mean a really huge price. (For a realistic mall, they should have one little Lego car in the parking lot, and all but one store boarded up inside :D )

    I'm excited for whats coming but I'm not sure if I will get them. My favorite modular in my city is the bookshop/apt. I didn't get the museum and will probably stay away from these large modular sets too, opting for building my own half modulars instead from city sets

    • @buildingtogether4171
      @buildingtogether4171  Месяц назад +1

      Custom modulars are a lot of fun to build. We just finished our music shop and will drop the video soon. The only issue is it can be easy to get carried away with rare pieces and spend too much on a creation!

  • @polarboy5862
    @polarboy5862 Месяц назад +1

    Wasn't it all of a week ago that we were all having tears about there being fewer modulars because of rule submission changes. I guess sometimes it pays to wait and see.

    • @buildingtogether4171
      @buildingtogether4171  Месяц назад +2

      There still may be fewer "modulars" in the long-run. If we're fortunate to get 3 modulars over the next couple of months, I'd be shocked if it happens again any time soon (and I'm still a bit skeptical we actually see 3 compatible buildings).
      I think the key with the Bricklink guidelines is that it removes the possibility of getting any modulars, even if they never were guaranteed. It's better to have hope than to not have any chance!

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Месяц назад

      Both would be great! There's no end to the possibilities! What bugged me most about the Natural History Museum was the jump in price. Not that I thought the value wasn't there, but I really hope it was a one-off and they revert back to $200-$225 range. What I fear is that they end up going down to $250 and that becomes the new "normal".

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Месяц назад +1

      @@buildingtogether4171 That's pretty much been their practice: normalize price hikes, the same way they normalized the idea of $.10/part being a fair or good value. (How and when that particular idea got stuck in everyone's head would make for a good anthropology/economics video.)

      @@SO-ym3zs The price hike from a few years ago where they added 20.00 to 40.00 to certain sets boggled my mind... (the claim was inflation, which if adjusted accordingly would have been 5 to 10 tops...). Sadly, the 'collectors market' blowing up the prices on older sets has been a drag as well (began around 2015). I'm happy to see comparable quality competitors coming out with wonderful sets for realistic prices.
