For those considering their first shoot, you will be shocked at how welcoming and helpful the other shooters will be. It's part of the USPSA culture. And you ran with Tim Herron! That's like showing up for basketball clinic and Michael Jordan hangs with you all day giving pointers!
Your first match and you squaded with Tim Herron?? What a lucky person you guys are! I have heard nothing but a great things about Tims class. Please go take his class if you can! Good luck on your journey! I just passed my first year in USPSA and this is a great sport!
Great advice for new shooters. I see too many people come out and watch a match then they never come back and shoot. You guys showed how welcoming the shooting community is.
I'm retired LE and going to start this. I see I will struggle on things like not standing in an "open doorway," when I load a magazine I always invert the gun to let gravity do its thing, we double taped everything. It will definitely be a learning experience for me. Unlearning techniques that have been second nature for a long time, 30+ years. I'll be eating a lot of humble pie for awhile. I'll be shooting iron sights until I get used to optics... crawl, walk, run. Great video guys.
Just shot my first match. Very welcoming community, gave me a lot of advice and had great advice. Just as you said, very nervous leading up to my first round. Once my first shot was off I was fine. It's a great time and I did better than I expected. 5th out of 9 and did better each round.
That is exactly what I found shooting my first matches with the IDPA, the guys take you in accept you and help you all the way through. Great people, good time and all while doing something exciting!
don't "slow down", increase control. bravo! you don't re-grip, and your follow through is evident. man, you're one of the better "beginners" around. good times ahead!
You guys are genuine, open minded, and very enthusiastic. Good attitude, and well done on the first match. I just registered with USPSA last week, picked up a Shadow 2 Orange, been practicing every day if I can. Got my first match (Steel Challenge) Jan 20th. Super anxious and excited. Keep up the great work man!
Just stumbled across this channel. Great video! As an introvert, I absolutely loved that you mentioned the camaraderie that takes place during a shooting match or even in a squad. Shooting might seem like a daunting sport for a lot of people, but once you get to the range, you almost always meet the most supportive, humble and helpful guys. Keep up the good work man!
@@lovinarmspts8913 take classes w/ Tim! he's awesome! will save you tons of ammo and time. the latter is far more precious. but most importantly, don't ever forget to have fun. cheers yo
Great video, congrats on such awesome performance, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to my first match. Content about USPSA is very supportive. Awesome!!
What's up dude! I'm the dude in the grey hoodie with the Glock 34. Hope to see you out there again soon. I know you interviewed me but I dont think it made the cut (I can ramble).
Dude. I had a chuckle at the “road to gm”, but you’re gonna be fine. It’s a serious rabbit hole, but you get to hang with some of the best people around-and not just the fast ones. The easiest, cheapest way to a competitive advantage is to learn the rules. Just sayin. Your closing description of what it’s like is spot on and good to hear. One of the very best parts of this sport is that once you’re doing it, it’s basically the same everywhere. Sign up, show up, and shoot!
This is great! Thanks so much for sharing. I shot my first IDPA match last weekend and experienced all the same emotions. You did much much better than I did!
I just did my first competition 2wks ago i wish i watched this video prior lol the competition killed my confidence but it was so fun. 😊 I’d definitely try again
Looks like you have a good foundation of skills. All in all I would say you did a great job for a first-timer. The next step is to dry fire like crazy and never stop learning. 👍
This is something im looking to get into soon. I appreciate this video and look forward to more in this series. I would suggest different or better lav mics or maybe just balancing the audio in post a bit. Hard to hear the person on camera but the camera man is loud and clear. keep it up man!
Did you guys give up on the journey? Was hoping to see more updates! I’m gonna be starting my new chapter in life and competition shooting is in the works! Hopefully you guys can teach me some things, in the future!
Great video and very good gun handling. Your approach to your first match is right on. I have doing USPSA for 27 years and still enjoy it. You should check the rulebook that you can load on the USPSA App regarding magazine location relative your belt. From what I can see, the double mag pouches are not legal as they place the outer mag too far outward from your belt. I'm not criticizing you, I just don't want you to shoot for no score at a match for illegal equipment.
Cool. I started 3 years ago (at 65) with Frank Garcia at Universal Shooting Academy. Yes, I waited way too long! First match was the Florida Open, perhaps the hardest match there is! I walked the first match. I hurt my back so I have had to slack off a little but look at my channel and you will see some of what you will go through! Bill
Good shooting …. Work on recoil control first , then trigger control, obviously safety is number 1, after you get your accuracy and trigger control then you can work on your movement…. Getting out of the pocket faster… coming into the target with your gun up already,,, transitions etc….
You are aware that many of the top guns have "real world" experience and advocate for the sport? You think that advanced gun handling skills are a bad idea?
@@katana258 You do realize that you are actually making my argument for me? The Miami shootout is what caused agencies to get their heads out of their collective asses and modernize. SO ... "Huh"? meaning "what the f*** does that have to do with your half assed opinion"!

Great advice for new shooters. I see too many people come out and watch a match then they never come back and shoot. You guys showed how welcoming the shooting community is.
It depends where you go like anything else in life. Some places you are made to feel welcome, and others not so much.

Got my first pistol match coming up 3/19. I can relate to everything your saying when it comes to accuracy over speed. Nervous and excited!

Anyone have a link for match locations? I live in Iowa and there aren’t any in my surrounding area 😔

How many rounds do people expect to shoot during a match. Do you buy ammo or reload?
18 to 20 rounds per stage. So about 80 for the typical match.
Where was this match at?
I’m 10 months late how far have you made it?
What holsters and belt and accessories do u use? Great job
What happened? Any content more dropping?
So was there a second match?
I would never remember the stage instructions, I'd get the sequence wrong every time.
14:45 what do you mean he was the only shooter ??
😎👍🏿
Leg position for the strong hand shooting wasn’t optimal.
This vid is a yr old. How’s your road to GM going?
You still going?
🙂👍
Armer all the mags on a Glock and they will drop clean every time.

you sound like Tom Cruise to me lol
If you’re hitting all alphas you’re going too slow 😊
games all games .how far has shooting fallen ..how to get killed with b/s guns
