Michael made his parents proud with this academic accomplishment. I am an oldest son of parents who never went to high school, never graduated anything. I finished high school on schedule and went on to a B.S. degree from Michigan State. It was very hard but my motivation was to make them proud by doing what they were unable to do.
This movie is all about accomplishing difficult tasks by hard work and perseverance. Michael Oher is a real person, so he should inspire others. You can do anything you set your mind to with hard work.

All it takes is one person to believe in you. all it takes is one person the listen to you when things just aren't going the way you'd like. I have to respectfully disagree. It takes a whole lot more than a little belief and a little effort. It takes a lot of work to have both courage and honor, everyday in fact, to be the best person you can be. Michael could have given up many a time and succumbed to the criminal gang path, but he did not because he has both courage and honor. It was not easy, but you do not get stronger without a little stress and hard work.

    • @LadyMacbeth56

@@dwolfg I think that person means that, to get you on the road to do the hard work, all it takes is for someone to believe in you, so you can believe in yourself. Not everybody has confidence in their abilities. When someone comes along and shows you that they truly believe you are capable, you start the path to believing which turns into the path of work and struggle to get there. Always lift each other up.

When words are music to our ears . . .
Michael's essay. Remember your favorite moment in THE BLIND SIDE? The moment when Michael has his epiphany - after his new “Dad” quotes from memory, the climax of 'Charge of the Light Brigade':
“Into the valley of death, rode the 600 . . . Theirs, not to reason why - Theirs, but to 'do-or-die'.”
Inspired by his Dad's football analogy, “when the coach messes up,” Mike sits down to compose his thoughtful response - writing with an 'artless' style and a lyrical (not to say musical) beauty that rings true.
I awake at a quarter to four and I'm about to cue up the DVD to transcribe Michael's “inspired and inspiring” words.
Permit an aside: After determining that I'd never seen The Blind Side, my sister in Toronto sent me both Blu-ray and 'Made in Mexico' DVD versions for my birthday last month.
Poised to transcribe (I type fast) I realized that this 'best scene' must be the favorite of millions - and is already posted at RUclips, right? Sure enough. Four minutes of movie magic.

Starting at 2:09, he says "didn't at least one of the 600 guys think about giving up" just as he walks past the guy he used to play football with who is watching him. That timing is not an accident.

I don’t know this movie, so I’ll comment on this material alone.
Honour… there are crimes committed in the name of ‘honour’. Whatever positive connotation ‘honour’ had, it’s corrupted now. The same for courage. Soldiers are being barked at about courage, in order to make them put themselves in the way of harm and kill others.
No. It’s about commitment to a set of sane values and integrity. The rest follows.

I liked how SJ jumped up and stopped watching Basketball and paid attention to his dad when Tim McGraw started talking about the LSU Old Miss Football Game and the Coach had made a mistake that had cost LSU the game

Someone please explain this to me. Does the book relate to Michael? Is that why he chooses it? What's the theme or analogy?

In his own life he is faced with many struggles of courage while dealing with football, standing up to the drug dealer friend, living in the hood always trying to reach his mom. He is faced with honor when instead of running away from struggles or challenges like getting good grades, not stealing from the rich family that takes him in. He faces these struggles in his life but still comes out alive as a successful football player and man

Lol... She got a picture of him off the internet.. That was funny..
This movie was great.. Like where people found he not even worth of time, investment or anything else. She did.. And because of that he's now an NFL player.. Became fulbright you treat people. They can be an NFL, multimillionaire, designer for major corporations, in enter or etc.. Like she saw he was Worth it and he ended up seeing through her that she attitude.. I'm worth it..
