They then went on to explain to us how it is contracted, and that it was still OK to hold their hand, hug them, share their drink and cry on their shoulder. I remember hearing people on TV( the case of Ryan White, for example) or just people in public telling crazy stories of how easy it was to contract AIDS. My mother explained to me that people fear what they don’t understand. It wasn’t their fault. It was what it was at the time. My mother being in the medical field spent a lot of time finding out all she could being that both her only brother and sister had this disease. I’m not gonna say I felt bad for the people who were ignorant and afraid but even as a little kid I somehow felt more adult because I understood a lot better than people did at that time about that disease. Nothing changed with my affection towards my aunt and uncle who were huge parts of my life. A lot of people died back then - it was a very scary time. People just didn’t know what they didn’t know.

He knew what Denziel was trying to get at and allowed him to do so. The judge was aware of what probably needed to happen in this lawsuit and wasn't going to hamstring the plaintiff for decorum sake. Good judges are like that, they know and realize when an attorney is going down a path asking particular questions and allow things that normally wouldn't be allowed, and know when to reign in attorneys that ramble and do nothing but commit character assassination. Unfortunately, the latter is running rampant in the US justice system since judges allow DAs to get convictions on character assassination alone instead of presenting a case of the crime committed.
Two of the biggest powerhouse stars at the top of their game. This was a fantastic movie from top to bottom. The masterful acting from Tom and Denzel was electrifying. A movie that will go down in history as a masterpiece.
Denzel’s transformed in that moment of the film in a magnificently subtle way that few actors can achieve. At that moment, he loved Andrew Beckett and wanted justice for him. Outstanding, as always, Mr. Washington.

In reality, the supposed 5:00 p.m. filing deadline for the document they claimed to have lost is bogus: the Eastern District of Pennsylvania courthouse, where the suit was filed, has an after-hours box, so they had seven hours to redo the document plus it's not his fault there were no backups. I used to work in law offices including some involved in this type of case.
He is an epic actor but why is no one talking about how epic Denzels character is as an attorney? This guy is amazing at what he does and wins the case
Just watched this last night. Brought me to tears. Tom, Denzel, heck all of them did fabulous. Antonio and Denzel still looking hot lol. Anyway, beautiful movie.
When you think of the exhausting tediousness of the mechanics of film making and you see the results.... WOW. It's an extramordinary film . If you haven't seen it ... PLEASE watch it.
This scene always has me crying on the one hand, and it pisses me off on the other. Crying because of all the stuff he had to go to, but pissed because his former employers lack of compassion. When the guy says “He asked it.”, it showed their lack of empathy and reminded me of when people I knew were so homophobic that they couldn’t one ounce of empathy. Still one of my favorites.
It's a movie I've seen only twice. My uncle died of AIDS in 1992, it's too raw even now for me to sit and watch. I'll probably watch it one more time in the near future.
My brother died of aids in 1990. The discrimination was still very alive. This movie brought back all of the sad feelings I had when my brother passed away and people were still calling it "The Gay Plague"
I adore this film, I often take midnight walks up to the local petrol station, have a chat with the bloke working there and he gives me a fag (cigarette for non-UK people), tell him my troubles and we check in with each other, all to Bruce Springsteen's moving music from this film. Denzel & Tom smash it in this film.
This clip has so many outstanding actors, in addition to Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks, even the jury had three actors who went on to be exceptional actors themselves. Yes, go back and look, there are three members of the jury, who are not A-List actors, but they are recognizable and known for their art.
But even still the entire time you can tell she’s talking through her teeth. There’s an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling when she talks and at first you think it’s just cause she’s being this annoying bitchy character, but when she mutters “I hate this case” you realize it’s just cause she at no point in this trial believes what she’s saying, she just has no choice but to say itb

My mother, who was a nurse at the time sat us down on the couch with my aunt and uncle (who were her brother and sister) and explain to us that both my aunt and uncle had contracted this disease ( through their drug addiction)which is incurable.
Jason Robards. One of the gods. Fantastic film, in all respects.
Despite playing a villainous character of sorts, his performance was second to none.
Only two movies have ever brought me to tears - Steel Magnolias and Philadelphia.
For me, Sophie' s Choice and Shindler's list. ( the little girl in the red coat). I could only watch these two movies once.
Yes
Stepmom also
The color purple. 💜
This role that Denzel W played...is like when Morgan Freeman played Joe Clark in Lean on Me...they were both pitch perfect in their performances...pitch perfect!
They all played their parts greatly Tom. Denzel. Antonio great movie that touch the heart bruce Springsteen so g helped it even more
Denzel and Tom 2 of the greatest actors of modern times
T Hanks in this role is epic...such a hard play and so convincing by all.... No wonder hes the Man to play all the great movies he do ...Dam hes good
Charles Napier as the judge is perfect
I remember the first time I saw this movie, imo it’s an incredibly moving movie and most definitely remember crying a bit,Denzel and Tom were both amazing i mean hell the whole cast was just great.
This is such an amazing movie. I Justice cried 20 times.
First time I saw this masterpiece I cried like a baby with my wife in the theatre
Love the look that Tom Hanks gives Denzel at 2:30 - "Nice move, counselor."
Tom Hanks deserves all the accolades he's received
Denzel deserved an award, too. Great movie
No he doesn't. For the past twenty-five years Tom Hanks has done nothing but play himself in virtually every role.
Dear Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, and so many more in this film show what a art acting is and these masters of this art really show that you are just a amusing guy with an Oscar, your claim is that you unintentionally showed the world that the academy has lossed its way and is just a party
Timeless actors practicing their mastercraft without fail and with apparant ease and grace…👊🔥
This judge was quite patient
He knew what Denziel was trying to get at and allowed him to do so. The judge was aware of what probably needed to happen in this lawsuit and wasn't going to hamstring the plaintiff for decorum sake. Good judges are like that, they know and realize when an attorney is going down a path asking particular questions and allow things that normally wouldn't be allowed, and know when to reign in attorneys that ramble and do nothing but commit character assassination. Unfortunately, the latter is running rampant in the US justice system since judges allow DAs to get convictions on character assassination alone instead of presenting a case of the crime committed.
I like him, he knew how serious this was
I always forget Antonio Banderas was in this movie. Brilliant scene and Tom deserved the Oscar 💯
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE LESIONS
Two of the biggest powerhouse stars at the top of their game.
This was a fantastic movie from top to bottom. The masterful acting from Tom and Denzel was electrifying.
A movie that will go down in history as a masterpiece.
It took me to 2 mins and 35 secs in to realize thats tom hanks lol. I thought after the first guy denzel would then call tom up next 😂
Jason Robards, and the Judge, also, a Gr8 seasoned character actor...what a movie!! Loved it!!
Denzel’s transformed in that moment of the film in a magnificently subtle way that few actors can achieve. At that moment, he loved Andrew Beckett and wanted justice for him. Outstanding, as always, Mr. Washington.
One of my favorites Tom Hanks´s movies
I got goosebumps too, when Red & Andy hugged.
Tom, Denzel and Antonio star actors in one movie wow!
Several others as well. Too many to name
I love how Denzels character used his own bigotry he had towards gays and aids to help win the case during the cross examination
Gotta love 😂that:
Says the "construct" "dominant culture" TYPE, "bigotry. '
Don't that be@t all 🙄
You people are shameless in your mass labeling.
As if you all are qualified to say who is "bigoted" as you pick n choose your pet-issue of the decade.
Tom and denzel were great together I this movie. Showed the prejudice toward people who are sick with this terrible illness.
He is an epic actor but why is no one talking about how epic Denzels character is as an attorney? This guy is amazing at what he does and wins the case
Tom Hanks, Denzel.... great actors.
My all time favourite movie of all time....after The Green Mile and Forrest Gump! Denzel and Hanks rock! Both academy award winners 😀❤❤❤❤❤
So technically it’s your all time 3rd favorite movie of all time, ever
@@mclohan smart a**!
WILSON!!!!!
Oops sorry, wrong Tom Hanks movie. 😂
Just watched this last night. Brought me to tears. Tom, Denzel, heck all of them did fabulous. Antonio and Denzel still looking hot lol. Anyway, beautiful movie.
Sensational picture. Actors, script, soundtrack...everything.
Academy Award-winning effort bt Tom and Denzel was great.
The little reaction from Robards at the end. A true goat
Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. Amazing actors.
This movie was historic and finally showed the world the devastation of AIDS.
This was the most heart reaching movie I ever watched everyone on should got a oscar
It's a movie I've seen only twice. My uncle died of AIDS in 1992, it's too raw even now for me to sit and watch. I'll probably watch it one more time in the near future.
One of the best movies of all time.
My brother died of aids in 1990. The discrimination was still very alive. This movie brought back all of the sad feelings I had when my brother passed away and people were still calling it "The Gay Plague"
Brilliant film
Denzel Washington is amazing
Denzel owns this film
Great decision, Judge!!!
Both times. ❤
The opposing attorney is also a great actress, Mary Steenburgen.
Mr Kruger from Seinfeld. RIP
Oh crap, I forgot I was watching a clip. This was a great movie, but you have to be in the right mindset to watch it.
The judge, with those glasses, looks like a hardened cop. The kind that is either ruthless ,streetwise and sharp or corrupt. Eitherway😂
he was quite a singer back in his younger days... ruclips.net/video/bDX_Qy1yKZk/видео.html
The lady lawyer done such a terrific job. So annoying so bitchy and mean beyond any limits😂
@@boppityboopy114 agree
That's Mary Steenburgen. Remarkable career (two of my favorites: Parenthood and Back to the Future III). Married to Ted Danson.
And that's What's Eating Gilbert Grape 😂🤣
The judge was the lead singer of the good old boys and driver of the Winnebago in blues brothers.
But he doesn't have his musicians union card.
This is one of my all time favorite movies
Tom Hanks looks like Neil Patrick Harris in this scene. What an amazing actor.
