  • I’ve been asked over the years about Hearty Soft Air-drying Clay and what are the properties of it which make it my favourite paper clay to use.These are my personal views and findings only. Hopefully this answers those questions.

    Really great review! I was considering buying Hearty. Wish people added a bit more commentary. Though I’m a little bit skeptical because I want to make a figure of a character, but I want it to last a while, and I’m afraid it could break apart into pieces either after I let it dry because the clay shrinks, or after a long time, like you mentioned

      If you're thinking of making a figure that will last and not crack or break with shrinkage, as can sometimes happen, then I'd go for Fimo clay which you bake in the over. A little more expensive but definitely hard wearing and can be modelled and painted.

    Thanks for this, I've been thinking of having a go with clay. I'm a cake decorator and this video really makes sense of how to use it (like modelling paste) I'm going to buy some now, have a dabble.

    Hello, one thing you didn't mention is how to soften the clay if it gets a bit dry and crumbly. Is it okay to add water drop by drop?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  2 года назад

      Hi Helen, sorry it’s taken a little while to answer your question I’ve only just seen this come up on my feed. If the clay is getting firm then a drop or two of water will bring it back, if it’s crumbly I doubt if anything will bring it back to its smooth consistency, sometimes kneading some fresh clay with it also softens it back. Hope that helped.

    Awesome review. I am thinking of using this for some models, I also make cake toppers, if this product is paper based is it foodsafe to use in the moulds I use for cakes?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  2 года назад +2

      Its advised that you do not use the same mould for both, not because the clay is toxic but the clay would have been manufactured in non-food safe environments.

    Is Hearty clay too soft to sand when fully dry? this is my first time using and it just feels so flexible, lightweight and soft I’m concerned sanding it may break it before i get to seal it

      Hi There, I would say it will depend on how high your standing piece is and is it weight bearing, you could create an armature or internal structure from wire or maybe thin dowels to add support but I think this is hard to answer without knowing your intended project. Sorry, please to help if you have more questions though.

    Thanks for the review. Really helpful. Btw is this clay waterproof? And does it last long?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  2 года назад +1

      This is only waterproof if you seal it otherwise its porous and.

    where do you buy the clay?

    • @CeriGriffiths
      @CeriGriffiths  Год назад

      I normally buy my clay on the internet, the air drying clay I used in this video was called Hearty air drying clay and I purchased mine form a company called Katy Sue Designs here in the UK. the clay is solid world wide and there are other brands of air drying clay which I could also be used.
