I'M SICK OF IT!! The "I Didn't Know" Steroid Excuse

  • I've had enough. This excuse needs to go away and not be accepted when offered as a reason why players are testing positive for steroids in the NFL, MLB, NBA, and other pro sports. In this day and age there is no reason why players aren't 100% aware of what they are putting in their bodies.
    Plus, a possible solution?

Players should be somewhat more accountable, yes. However, the supplement companies need to be held accountable as well. UFC fighter Yoel Romero successfully sued a supplement company for $27 million this year for wages lost due to a suspension he received because of a tainted supplement. Maybe other athletes need to take legal action as well in order to make sure that companies aren't adding these substances to their products.

PED's is so widely used in pro and even amateur sports that they shouldn't be banned. Colleges have steroids programs that they urge their players to use. PED's is the name of the game nowadays, and the injury prevention effects that some PED's have are too good to ignore. Players shouldn't be at fault anymore, because they're so widely used. Unfortunately, a lot of the public still has almost zero knowledge of how steroids/PED's work, and how widely used they are.

Yoel Romero won a lawsuit against a supplement company that sold him a container of supplements that were legal, but made at the same facility as a banned supplement. Somehow the banned substance made it's way into the supplement and when he used it he pissed hot on a drug test and earned himself a suspension. Most athletes know what is supposed to be in the supplements they are taking, but it is the companies responsibility to make a reliable substance.

It seems like more and more players don't want to know. They want to be able to scream "I didn't know, you can't blame me, how was I supposed to know". And I'm getting tired of it, these are professional athletes, making millions of dollars, any one of these "unknown ingrediants" could end up interacting with something you're prrscribed and then what are you going to do

  • @flythew5939
    @flythew5939 5 лет назад

The mlb made it so that you can only take their supplement sponsor's products. That kills a player's sponsorship opportunities, but it at least stopped the "I didn't know excuse"

I totally agree with the solution and somewhat agree that it’s on them. But look what happened to Robert Mathis back when he was playing for the Colts. He was talking fertility drugs because he and wife were having trouble having kids and he got suspended for 4 games because of it. Could he have went to the team doctors to make sure it was safe? Sure. At the same time. You’d think something as simple as a fertility drug wouldn’t have any type of performance enhancers in it. Right?

  • @Shootskas

Yes. Putting chemicals in a product and then not reporting those chemicals on the label is not the athlete's fault. Yoel Romero won several million dollars in court for this very action.

  • @StocktonBomb

The players aren't saying "I didn't know" because of any of the reasons you stated. They're saying "I didn't know" in an attempt to save face because they got caught cheating. They're not taking anything accidentally or for lack of knowledge.

Taking whatever white powder someone gives you and mixing it in with your drink is no different from someone giving you a white pill and say "hey, it's good for you man!" and taking it. You should always know what you're putting in your body, whether you're an athlete or not but certainly if you are an athlete, so your livelihood depends on your physical health, and you also have the money to do so.

Multimillion-dollar worth athletes have nutritionists for that, hence there is no excuse. If there were unlabeled banned substances in a supplement, those athletes should sue the supplement companies for 1) putting their health at risk with those substances and 2) career damages and loss of income when they get banned from competition. MMA fighter Yoel Romero did just that and the supplement company was sentenced to pay him $27million. I agree though that athletes should just stick to approved supplements, anything else is (grossly) negligent and they should held accountable.

What about an athlete like Yoel Romero? He’s a UFC fighter who just who tested positive for PED. No one believed him but successful proved it was a tainted supplement and won a 28 million dollar suit against the company.

Agreed. A professional athletes every intake should be monitored to produce best results and these drugs may produce effects in the short term, in the long term they endanger the life of the person. It also creates unhealthy competition amongst peers. So all medicine, neutraceuticals or supplements of any kind need to be thoroughly checked.

A player being suspended for using banned substances doesn’t mean steroids, it can mean things like adderall or whatever. They almost never go into specifics in terms of what exactly the substance is. Most people think steroids but no

The phrase “the NFL is doing this for safety reasons” is extremely hypocritical, its a bunch of 300lb men running 20+mph into each other for hours every week for about half the year, then they pump em up with Vicodin and other opioids to make sure even though they’re shoulders, knees and hips are in excruciating pain they can just keep on playing... then when guys take hormones it all of a sudden becomes “player safety” its a bunch of BS! The NFL can care less about player safety, and frankly, pretty much every player in the league knows that! (Disclaimer: this is all my opinion)

The NFL, MLB, UFC, etc should just release their own line of sanctioned supplements for their athletes. That way their athletes get the supplements they need and the organization can validate the accidental claim.
You can either take the supplements provided by us or take a hike. If we make the mistake nothing happens to you, it was on us.
Plus they can market it to the general public and make millions off of it.

162 regular game season in the MLB
    82 NBA regular season games
16 regular season NFL games (where people are literally putting there bodies at risk for injury EVERY SINGLE GAME) ... performance enhancing drugs are a necessary evil in sports and its about fuckin time people realize it ... and I. D.o.n.t want to here the “its tainting the game” shit anymore , if everyone’s aloud to take something then the playing field is even and the players quality of life will be better do to the ability to recover faster.

Simply put, they don’t know what they are taking because they don’t bother, it’s as simple as that, they could’ve get one of their entourage to drop it at a lab to test it out before taking it, it cost probably equivalent of 3 mins of what they are being paid to play a game but no, they don’t care and now want to claim innocent, if they actually not doing it on purpose.
