I'm not really disappointed that they dropped the idea for Sons Of Garmadon..but why did they kill him off in Hunted if he had so much story potential? This entire idea could've been written into an entirely new season..
Totally agree. If they decided later into production not to make him Echo Zane, then they should not have built up Mr. E as a Nindroid. Either remove the buildup or give him a new satisfying conclusion in relation to Zane.
OK. I understand why Mr. E was originally Echo Zane. But I also understand why he wasn't in the final version. Aside from Jay and Nya, no one else knew about Echo Zane due to the erased time line. Thus, how could the Sons of Garmadon know about him being at the Lighthouse Prison? Along with Jay and Nya admitting everything would wind up changing the story completely. I'm hoping to get a job doing art or storytelling in the entertainment industry, so whatever exposure I can get to the process behind the scenes is always appreciated! there hasn’t been a zane focused season in so long i wish they would’ve made this plot line a whole season in maybe the wild brain era it would’ve been sick. much better than the ice emperor arc
Well that answers that question but now I have another one whatever happened to Zanes falcon. He last appeared in season eight and we’re at season 15 now. he hasn’t appeared in like six seasons what happened to him
This entire video was simply phenomenal Brent and Tommy, the best one I have seen on this channel yet! First off it was great from a production standpoint, the process of storyboarding and blocking. It's so cool to see how Ninjago gets animated, especially because there is so little behind the scenes footage. But the best part about this entire video was seeing the process of developing the story! We get to see how the idea evolves and how the writers and producers carefully thing about not just the narrative ramifications but also how the audience interprets the narrative. I never realized how much the writers were careful about not alienating ro confusing new viewers! The end product was season 8, which struck the prefect balance between a good entry point for new viewers and the perfect continuation for old viewers! I am still amazed how expertly the creators managed to achieve this balance! I would love to hear more discussion of behind-the-senses story decisions and evolution. Like how the writers came up with so many of season 8's great ideas! The creation of Harumi's character, the decision to bring back Garmadon, and the introduction to Dragon and Oni would all be fantastic to hear about! Please do more of this Brent! Now that I have this taste of behind-the-scenes I need more! There is so much awesome potential for the Hagemans and Tommy to discuss more story development! And thank you for bringing this to us Brent! You are a credit to all Ninjago fans! And you sounded amazing in the storyboards, honestly I think your lines sounded even better in this earlier footage compared to the final product! You conveyed so much desperation and emotion I actually got a little scared just watching a rough story board!

Man this was such a good idea concept, and the fact it got this far is pretty amazing. Though the season's focus' would've shifted heavily onto Zane and off the SOG. A friend and I have been playing with the outcome and dang, it would've gotten so much more personal after they'd rescued Zane, for him to of discovered he had a brother, then Jay and Nya would've had to come clean and explain Echo was back in the lighthouse despite the fact he and Zane have cannonly met. I agree with other commenters that a Zane focused season would be awesome!

as an artist and a film/tv series enthusiast, I love watching the animation process from the storyboards to the start of animation. It's also really cool to see scrapped ideas played out and make tell the audience "here's what Could've happened"
You know, that last video was amazing! And amazing acting, loved it! Fully honest, I am glad they dropped it, don't like Echo as an evil guy (may would get used to it over the course though). I do have to say..I get massive Shadow the Hedgehog vibes off of him, haha!
What if the last version had taken place, only because Zane was damaged, he didn’t remember who the Mr. E was? I feel like that could have possibly worked.
It would be interesting, but then you would just have Echo anticlimactically reintroduce himself at a later point because Zane had forgotten him. Unless Zane remembered toward the end of the season.
Thanks for the insight, Brent and Tommy! A part of me guessed that Mr. E was Echo Zane when I watched the show, I was surprised when it turned out that he was a red herring. Still cool that he's an antithesis to Zane, even if just in mood and voice. And as a stopmotion animator, those clips were awesome to look over! On that note, I'd really love to make my own Adobe Audition effect based on Mr. E's voice - the backwards talking and the FFT filter to make him sound robotic. At least, that's what it sounds like. Could work really well in a brickfilm!
Don't forget that echo Zane was somewhat clumsier than actual Zane and literally fell apart multiple times during Skybound. He was based on Zane's old blueprints, not the new titanium body that he (and probably PIXAL) currently have. Echo Zane seemed like a nice enough person in Skybound, and I would be surprised if he turned evil. Plus, I really doubt Echo Zane would be such a good fighter given his older body!
@@davidbojorjes Yeah, that's the idea. In the post sky bound timeline he also could have become bitter being alone on that island for so long. Maybe Jay and Nya got to him not long before his breaking point (no pun intended). And once he fell in with Harumi it would have only solidified his grievances. The pieces are all there, but I can see how it would have been hard to keep it up through the rest of the season.
Perhaps it is safe to assume Mr. E was a surviving nindroid from rebooted. That would explain his hatred for Zane, his lack of speech, and his combat skills.

I recognized the music used in the rough animations! Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, right? The tone is different, but it sounds almost exactly like it! Nice choices on the music, Mr. Miller! :)
just so you know, I have NOTHING to do with the music. that is done by the actual composers! so this is not guardians...go and watch my interviews with the composers, it's really interesting.

I'm not sure why, but I've always thought of Echo Zane to be neglected by Dr. Julien. I mean, just think about it, Zane is the ice ninja, and Echo Zane is just some, rusty nindroid. Imagine if Dr. Julien talked about Echo Zane behind his back. And he found out about it. He thought of himself as a disappointment and that angered him, a lot. So, he began to feel a lust of some sort. He felt lust to show his "father" that he was better than Zane, and when he found out he couldn't, he wanted to show everyone that Dr. Julien was terrible. When he also couldn't do that, he got very very mad, and ran off to join Garmadon. I don't really think he would be 100% loyal to Garmadon, I feel like he just joined him only to get his own revenge. When Echo Zane or more fittingly, Mr. E, couldn't bring back Lloyd, because he didn't want to, he found out he would get broken apart. I'm kinda petty that he didn't come back as something better, I'm also mad that he didn't run off secretly and start his own little gang of villains, and go find Zane and yell at him or something. Echo Zane had so much potential, he could've taken OverlordVirus!Pixal and poisoned his father or something, and they covered up his death as from Old Age. I dunno, I just think that would be cool.

Forget about the new audience, they can binge watch it later. If you add a small detail from another season into a newer one, it will make people think, “ Huh I wonder why people are freaking out over this one moment. I guess I’ll just need to watch the whole thing.” I’m really happy that this show is bringing some mature themes into it’s storyline, but a little complexity is good every once in awhile. I’ve been watching this show since it came out and I am very happy with were it is now, but there is always room for improvement. I can’t wait for the new seasons! 💙

Thanks for the insight, Brent and Tommy! A part of me guessed that Mr. E was Echo Zane when I watched the show, I was surprised when it turned out that he was a red herring. Still cool that he's an antithesis to Zane, even if just in mood and voice. And as a stopmotion animator, those clips were awesome to look over!
On that note, I'd really love to make my own Adobe Audition effect based on Mr. E's voice - the backwards talking and the FFT filter to make him sound robotic. At least, that's what it sounds like. Could work really well in a brickfilm!

Don't forget that echo Zane was somewhat clumsier than actual Zane and literally fell apart multiple times during Skybound. He was based on Zane's old blueprints, not the new titanium body that he (and probably PIXAL) currently have. Echo Zane seemed like a nice enough person in Skybound, and I would be surprised if he turned evil. Plus, I really doubt Echo Zane would be such a good fighter given his older body!

@@davidbojorjes Yeah, that's the idea. In the post sky bound timeline he also could have become bitter being alone on that island for so long. Maybe Jay and Nya got to him not long before his breaking point (no pun intended). And once he fell in with Harumi it would have only solidified his grievances. The pieces are all there, but I can see how it would have been hard to keep it up through the rest of the season.
Zane is always feeling pain everyday... I feel bad.

Perhaps it is safe to assume Mr. E was a surviving nindroid from rebooted. That would explain his hatred for Zane, his lack of speech, and his combat skills.

No matter how glad I am that Echo (one of my favourite characters) isn't Mr. E, those scenes were absolutely amazing. Thank you for showing them to us. (Also gave me hope that Echo might return one day :D)

I'm not sure why, but I've always thought of Echo Zane to be neglected by Dr. Julien. I mean, just think about it, Zane is the ice ninja, and Echo Zane is just some, rusty nindroid. Imagine if Dr. Julien talked about Echo Zane behind his back. And he found out about it. He thought of himself as a disappointment and that angered him, a lot. So, he began to feel a lust of some sort. He felt lust to show his "father" that he was better than Zane, and when he found out he couldn't, he wanted to show everyone that Dr. Julien was terrible. When he also couldn't do that, he got very very mad, and ran off to join Garmadon. I don't really think he would be 100% loyal to Garmadon, I feel like he just joined him only to get his own revenge. When Echo Zane or more fittingly, Mr. E, couldn't bring back Lloyd, because he didn't want to, he found out he would get broken apart. I'm kinda petty that he didn't come back as something better, I'm also mad that he didn't run off secretly and start his own little gang of villains, and go find Zane and yell at him or something. Echo Zane had so much potential, he could've taken OverlordVirus!Pixal and poisoned his father or something, and they covered up his death as from Old Age. I dunno, I just think that would be cool.

Forget about the new audience, they can binge watch it later. If you add a small detail from another season into a newer one, it will make people think, “ Huh I wonder why people are freaking out over this one moment. I guess I’ll just need to watch the whole thing.”
I’m really happy that this show is bringing some mature themes into it’s storyline, but a little complexity is good every once in awhile. I’ve been watching this show since it came out and I am very happy with were it is now, but there is always room for improvement.
I can’t wait for the new seasons! 💙
