I may be paraphrasing, but didn't Rose also say that "even roses have thorns" in the main game? Their names alone show how different their personalities are, even though they're brothers. And don't even get me started on their themes (ominous Latin chanting vs fun jazz)
@@legend716xerneas3 Not to mention, Rose literally exploits a child like Bede to sort of make himself a family, but acts extremely distant, up to discarding Bede, which just needed approval. Peony instead is clingy to his daughter, up to the point she's the one that wants to go away
Rose and Peony - Two sides of the same coin. As children, Rose was always the highlight child. He always exceled, and thus, was pushed to excel further. Meanwhile, Peony was shoved into the shadows. He was always compared to his more successful brother, and eventually, all of the "Why can't you be more like your brother?" pushed him too far, and he ran off. Peony still has a lot of lingering resentment for his brother. When Oleana compared him to Rose in their brief encounter in the Crown Tundra, it's one of the few times we see him in a bad mood. We see he loves battling both when we fight him ourselves, and through the fact that he was a Gym Leader and Champion in the past. However, he quit his positions when Rose became chairman. After doing so, he became a family man, working tirelessly to give Peonia the attention that he wished he could have had as a child. As a result of all this, he developed a high-energy, friendly personality, culminating in the Peony we see in the Crown Tundra: A man who only wants the best for his family, loves Pokémon Battles, and an overall fun-loving dude who's kind of a dork. He will periodically jump into the Galarian Star tournament for a good fight. In contrast, Rose developed alone. He does not have a proper family. While he inspired extreme loyalty in Oleana and Bede, it does not seem like he cares for them much. While he did give Bede his first Pokémon, as well as sponsor him personally, he showed little interest in his development, until it was about to hurt his reputation. His constant push to excellence developed him into someone always striving for greater heights, leading to the Rose we saw in the main game: A friendly and very successful person, but his drive for greater excellence lead him down a road that nearly destroyed the very region he was trying to protect. He's not a bad person, but he's driving to push himself farther than necessary. He doesn't have time for things such as "family," or "fun," as he must excel further. He has not engaged in a Pokémon Battle for some time, before you, the player, practically forced him into one. He realized he had made a mistake after Eternatus overwhelmed Leon, and would have successfully destroyed Galar had Zacian and Zamazenta not showed up. Likely overwhelmed by guilt for nearly destroying the region he loved so dearly, he turned himself in, and his fate after this point is unknown. However, despite all these differences, they're still brothers. They both care very much about what's important to them. Peony cares about his daughter, and rushed into the max lair unprepared to try and help her. Rose cares about the entire Galar region, and revived Eternatus for the purpose of ensuring its future success. Peony has kept the Cufant, now Copperajah, that Rose helped him catch throughout his life. They both can be as stubborn as steel, but also burn with the passion of fire. Much is stated through their names: Peony and Rose. Both are very beautiful flowers, with a single major difference (among many others, I'm no expert on botany): the Rose has thorns, the Peony does not. That difference is emphasized through their battle themes. Rose's theme is ominous and foreboding. It tells of destruction, and of how critical the current battle is. Peony's, however, is on the exact opposite end of this spectrum. It is an incredibly fun jazz tune that tells you that this guy isn't really looking do anything nefarious, you're not trying to stop some evil plot, you are just fighting him to have some fun. I restate my previous statement. Rose and Peony are two sides of the same coin. Both are driven to excel in whatever they put their mind to, and share a similar stubbornness and even impatience at times. Their paths were split because of how they were raised. Peony exceled in battling, even becoming a gym leader, and then champion for some time, and is doing his best to excel as a father to give his daughter the childhood he never had. Rose exceled in business and tried his best to protect and improve the region, but he reached too far and nearly destroyed it all. Geez, I think about this kind of thing way more than I, in all honesty, should.
Wow, you managed to expand on Rose and Peony's personalities and backstories a little that it's just enticing to read. Perhaps this can be utilized in a fanfiction of Sword and Shield? A retelling of the games but with certain aspects changed and a few new things added in their for flavor. I don't know, it's just a suggestion.
@@ryanaing5302 Honestly, I may try my hand at retelling the story of Gen 8 in my own way. Already, I can tell I'll probably run into a few problems if I wish to retell the entire story (Most notably version differences. Sure, I could do the dual protagonist thing in the Adventures manga, but Hop obtaining the legendary dog is an important moment for him. If I want to include the Isle of Armor, how do I represent both Klara and Avery? They'd rip each others throats out before the Main Character(s) even get to the island. Additionally, while not a version difference, Spectreir and Glastreir don't coexist), but it would be a very interesting exercise. Perhaps I'd add some moments of my own creation as well (I'm thinking about adding a reconciliation scene between Peony and Rose at some point way in the end). I also have to worry about the Isle of Armor - It's meant for early-game, not endgame (proposed solution - have a mid-challenge off-season of sorts between 3rd gym and 4th gym, where competitors are allowed to train for the harder areas, allows for Kubfu to also join the MC(s) team, allowing for a return for Urshifu later in the story). Crown Tundra is an easy placement though, it can easily go at the end, where it's supposed to be. However, this all relies upon one heck of a large "if." Doing this would require a time commitment that I'm not fully confident would be wise for me, personally. I have to figure out narrative solutions to various problems, both in the story, and by the fact that I'm combining both games. Some are easy (absence of Mega Evolution? The Galar Particles scattered around the region interfere with the connection between the Key Stone and Mega Stone. In this story, the same is theorized for Z-Bracelets, but few trainers outside of Kahunas, who are major leaders who cannot leave their island easily because of their duties, actually hold them), while others will not be (such as the coexistence of Spectrier and Glastreir, as well as Clara and Avery).
@@gladiatordragon9219 I'd say leave the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra part out of the main story for a while and just include characters from the DLC into the main story: Klara, Avery, Mustard, and Peony; just mention the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra without actually going there at some point in the story, since the main characters would be participating in the Gym Challenge. Include both Klara and Avery, who both attended the Master Dojo, that have their own motivations and that they don't do much to actually train to get better (change up their personalities a little if you have to); have them interact with the main characters in some way during the Gym Challenge (Klara and Avery are participating in the Gym Challenge). Mustard can just travel around Galar to spectate the Gym Challenge while Honey is looking after the Dojo. For the Crown Tundra part, I'd say have Calyrex wander around Galar and meet up with the main cast and travel with them during their Gym Challenge, think of the anime like Meloetta, Zygarde Core (Squishy), and Poipole in their respective anime series. Remember, I recommend that Legendaries CANNOT be captured like in the anime, just to have them retain their mysticism and uniqueness. Zacian and Zamazenta will just assist the main characters in the climax, you can leave what happens to them afterward up to you so long as it makes sense (although I recommend not including the Sordward/Shielbert arc, because that was just...wrong) As for the characters' Pokemon teams, you can change up their teams as you like, so long as it makes sense to you, even the ones that specialize in one type, Bede and Marnie for example. Bede uses Psychic-types, Marnie uses Dark-types, Klara is Poison-type, etc; so add a few Pokemon with different typings and maybe have them rotate their team every once in a while. Make sure the characters themselves have some time to develop in terms of their story. For Dynamax battles, make them a little different from the games but still follows some rules like Dynamax will last maybe like one minute and that Max Moves can be used, not in "turns." Again, think like how the anime portrays battles. We also need to take into account the map of Galar. Make the map of Galar more larger than what the games portray their regions as. Add a few more towns, cities, and other places of interest (ruins, castles, other mysterious places) that might contribute to the plot or worldbuilding. I hope this enough for you.
@@gladiatordragon9219 Also remember, I believe some of the themes of Sword and Shield are about fame, the struggles of being or trying to be famous, forgotten myths and legends lost to time, trying to cope with the fact nothing lasts forever, trying to do so much for others even to dangerous levels, what it takes to be famous, family, and I think that's it.
Rose’s theme: Dark, foreboding, intense, even a little melancholy- symbolizing that you’re fighting a man who has gone too far in his efforts to protect Galar. Peony’s theme: *S m o o t h J a z z*
They actually did it! They didnt make a generic story where the underappreciated child (who was ignored for the more talented child) become the main villian. Instead, they made Peony the one who went through hard work and dedication to actually make something of himself, has a wife and kid, and is respected in Galar; despite being obnoxious and non attentive at times. Not only that, he became a chad by dropping being a champion just because Rose became the Chairman for Galar as he clearly knew he would be taken advantage of. On top of all this, you can tell just by looking at both of them what their personality and goals are: Peony is in shape due to hard work, while Rose has a stomach due to having a silver tongue and wealth (As it is common for those of higher wealth and power to being out of shape due to not needing to lift a finger) Peony is happier, more expressive and energetic, while Rose is calm, quiet, and too relaxed as he knows he can get what he wants with just a snap of his fingers Lastly, Peony views the world as something to explore To EXPERIENCE as he knows that experience is what helps grow and expand life Rose on the Other hand only saw the world to recreate through POWER as this can be applied in the same way of which having Wealth and Power Controls the most Hell, both their bloody themes even explains all this
Peony has a bit of a sad backstory, his rare league card makes it all clear. "Though it is seldom addressed publicly, Peony is, in fact, Rose's younger brother. Peony was compared to his brilliant older brother since he was born, causing him to slowly rebel and become a delinquent. He eventually ran away from home, only to become a Gym Leader once his talent was recognized. He was even Champion once, but shortly afterward, Rose became League Chairman. This caused Peony to vanish entirely from the League. The Copperajah on Peony's team has been there since it was a Cufant. It was the first Pokémon Peony caught together with his brother."
I literally looked at Chairman Rose as a jolly dad until he tried to get more power for Galar, but Peony is definitely like a dad, and I love both there characters :D
@Caesar Zeppeli If i remember from the story correctly, his daughter is basically a younger him. (Since peony was rebellious and ran from home) so that means she's going from trash to lovable character when she grows up :D
Peony has to be the coolest trainer in Pokémon sword and shield, his personality is amazing, his team is pretty good, and his battle theme is really good.
I wonder if they would update it, so that peony would say, 'Huh, you were a little bit weak, I mean you merely made a dent in my team, I'll heal you up and... WAIT MY DAUGHTER'S GONE!
@@azurecorviknight4189 He actually does say something like that. Its just u tell his daughter later in the max lair that you defeated him, even if you didn't.
@@panbat2367 Super late response, but the dialogue to Peonia is a bit different if you lose to Peony. You actually tell her that you "held your own" against Peony instead of actually winning against him. Granted that's not always accurate since if you go there early he'll just curbstomp you, but the implication is changed from you defeated him to just "Hey, I managed to at least put up a fight against him at least haha". I checked in the dialogue a while back when I made the attempt to go there early.
So, I was like "Isle of Armor scales to my level. I want to go get an Absol in the Crown Tundra!" First thing that happens? Level 60 copperajah in my face. Poor Scorbunny didn't stand a chance. Nor did anyone else on my team. That's how I learned that the levels aren't adjusted in Crown Tundra- but you can still go run around in there! I *lost* the battle against Peony- which actually gave different dialogue, surprisingly. But then Peony runs off, and I'm... able to go explore. Naturally, since levels weren't scaled, I was like "I can't catch an Absol... Lemme go do a max adventure!" I join my sister's Xerneas adventure and get the shiny first try... And it felt like the game was apologizing to me for what Peony did.
Peony: playing sweet sax Victor & Gloria: playing sax as well Calyrex: jazzing that piano *Peonia: standing there covering her ears* You ain't stopping me from picturing this.
you know that meme where sans is laying on the floor with a t-posing Monika? Replace sans with Peony and make Monika Calyrex. Or switch the positions. Or make Peony t-posing over Nia. So much customization!
They do have some similarities though, Both of them are Impulsive and Impatient, while Rose couldn't wait a single day for his whole deal Peony just goes ahead and does things without waiting.
@@slothfulquagsire199 actually yeah it says in his trainer card that he was the brother of rose and something happened that wanted him to be completely different from him. I think that’s what the card said
Sad to say Peony probably got cucked. Leon stole both Eternatus and Calyrex so Rose is probably gonna get Copperajah, leaving Peony with what? Perrserker? Don’t get me wrong I love the little Viking cat, but it’s far from the first mon to come to mind when I think of Peony.
Rose was obviously the favourite child (as stated on their league cards). So obviously while Rose developed a calm personality from having everything handed to him on a platter, Peony pretty much had to fend for himself. As such Peony developed quite a boisterous personality, as reflected in their battle and regular themes (Rose is classical and ominous, while Peony's is light hearted and more like Jazz).
his league card states he’s chairman rose’s younger brother and people always compare them to each other. They caught cufant together when they were young.

If your wondering, I restarted my game a while back to play through again, but I got lazy and now I’m only at the Dragon gym along with being finished with Isle Of Armor, so I’m not really in Crown Tundra yet. Still can’t wait though! Edit: I meant rival theme songs, not including final versions. Sorry for the mix up.
@@aretmaw Yeah, I know it’s more a fusion of industrial and big band jazz, but you have to admit it has some swing influence. Especially parts like 0:34.
@@boryontotheleader2328 Oh hell yeah! I didn’t even notice that it said the other themes in general lol. I meant rival battle themes, like Klara, Avery, Marnie, Bede, and Hop. The final versions don’t count in my opinion since they’re more League battle themes. If I had to pick my favorite new theme, it is absolutely the Galarian Bird Trio Theme. I’m a diehard Mega Man fan(Especially Star Force), so you can imagine my reaction to hearing that.
Rose, peony, and now, penny! I guess having some of the best battle themes of the bloody fantize just is just a generic quirk of this bloodline, isnt it? All three are so different from each other as well... both in style of music, the context, the absolute vibes. There's truly a song for everyone in this family, isn't there? Cant wait for a future legends game to possibly have a ancestors for these guys, and for anouther banger to drop when they do lol
Peony: So, what happened to you? Rose: I tried to bring about The Darkest Day and nearly caused an apocalypse. You? Peony: I met this lad with the biggest noggin I've ever seen. Rose: Pardon? Peony: And I think I have a sleep condition now. Maybe it's the cold.

@Billdependent Productions He has a Copperajah because he's Chairman Rose's younger brother and they caught them when they were younger. I personally think that's pretty sweet
Looker is my all time favorite Pokémon character, and Peony was the closest sort of character we got to Looker in Gen 8. Chaotic, kind of adopts the main character, sends a child to go solve a bunch of mysteries cuz thats totally safe. I miss that guy 😔
I love how I can just sit back and vibe to this theme, it doesn't feel like a Battle theme at all, and let's be real, Peony's battle isn't serious at all, so I really like the direction they went with this theme.
Has anyone else noticed the parallel between Peony and Doofensmurtz Both fathers of a rebellious daughter who usually are embarrassed by his antics Both were frequently overshadowed by their brother who is thought to be a genius to their parents Both are determined to give their kids the attention he never got when they were younger in spite of their embarrassing behavior Lastly both are constantly stopped in their tracks by a small mammal like creature
The Virgin Lusamine: - Dreams of being raped by space jellyfish. - Doesn't look after her children. - Weird cocoon hair. - Horrid sense of fashion. - Has a complete change of personality in the anime to look like a better person, becomes overbearing and childish. The Chad Peony: - Tells legendaries to chin up. - Just wants to have quality time with his daughter. - Doesn't need weird hairstyles to be memorable. - Great sense of fashion even with polar clothes. - Will activate coolest-dad-ever mode.
I don’t know if anyone else thought this. But when Peony kept saying “ultra mega” I thought about mega evolution. And when he sent out Aggron I was like “No way! Is he going to mega evolve?!” Edit: Ty for the likes ^^
His explanation of max raid adventures is the best "right your saying you dont want galar losing control so the pokemon rent some particles and we might see a rare over exposure"

Zacian and Zamazenta will just assist the main characters in the climax, you can leave what happens to them afterward up to you so long as it makes sense (although I recommend not including the Sordward/Shielbert arc, because that was just...wrong)
As for the characters' Pokemon teams, you can change up their teams as you like, so long as it makes sense to you, even the ones that specialize in one type, Bede and Marnie for example.

This MAN doesn’t get enough appreciation
They actually did it!
They didnt make a generic story where the underappreciated child (who was ignored for the more talented child) become the main villian. Instead, they made Peony the one who went through hard work and dedication to actually make something of himself, has a wife and kid, and is respected in Galar; despite being obnoxious and non attentive at times. Not only that, he became a chad by dropping being a champion just because Rose became the Chairman for Galar as he clearly knew he would be taken advantage of.
On top of all this, you can tell just by looking at both of them what their personality and goals are:
Peony is in shape due to hard work, while Rose has a stomach due to having a silver tongue and wealth (As it is common for those of higher wealth and power to being out of shape due to not needing to lift a finger)
Peony is happier, more expressive and energetic, while Rose is calm, quiet, and too relaxed as he knows he can get what he wants with just a snap of his fingers
Lastly, Peony views the world as something to explore To EXPERIENCE as he knows that experience is what helps grow and expand life
Rose on the Other hand only saw the world to recreate through POWER as this can be applied in the same way of which having Wealth and Power Controls the most
Hell, both their bloody themes even explains all this
Now this is the analysis I'm here for.
You hit the nail on the head completely
Perfect assessment.
That’s a good way of explaining it.
are you matpat?
