@@Tomscoins2021 yes, that is definitely true and the survival rates are also very low. It’s a really undervalued series compared to the Morgan dollar series.
Haha thank you! I’m always on the lookout for different coins. I’m also very patient and try to be high quality examples for a decent price when I buy.
Congrats on the bucket list coin. You may remember I had a 59o in ms62 but had to sell it recently. I was fascinated with the difference between the two series. The 59o is the easiest Seated dollar to obtain but more difficult then all but 3 Morgan’s if I recall in mint state. Popularity plays a huge part in the value of the coins for sure. I think the series is less popular because it’s so difficult to put together a set. Not only are they really difficult to find certain dates but super expensive limiting them to the few people that can afford them
Thanks man! Yes, I remember the one you purchased. That was a great example! I’m sorry you had to sell it. Yes, the seated dollar series is definitely not as popular as the Morgan dollar series and I think you are definitely right that the reason the coins aren’t worth more is because of the difficulty in acquiring the full set. They are also very expensive to buy in any grade making it difficult for more collectors to buy. I have noticed that they are starting to go up in value tho. I’ve seen some auctions lately where they are going even over book value especially if the coin looks nice. I hope you are able to buy another seated dollar in the future.
Yah I’ll definitely be replacing that coin. It took a long time to find a nice one. The main reason for me is that the grading companies are so generous on the series and there are lots of problem coins with straight grades. They rarely toned nice just like the peace dollars so you either have an ugly dark toned coin or a cleany looking white coin
@@tylonnplatinumthe3rd659 yeah, definitely true there. In the lighting I was using I thought mine looked slightly cleaned but after taking it to another area it actually looks pretty original. It basically looks like someone had it in their pocket for a little bit and then took it out. The coin seems to have been preserved pretty well.
Hi Jadon. Nice Seated Dollar. I like that it is blast white. I would never buy into the vault box gamble, either. I would buy one of those nice coins outright. Congratulations.
Thank you! Yes, it’s best just to buy the coin outright. I would prefer to get a good deal on a coin by waiting and being patient then taking a gamble and loosing big.
The NGC-graded AU-55 1859-O Seated Liberty Dollar entombed in a Vault Box (ugh !😬) which you purchased from an eBay seller for only $1,200 looks to me like it was very likely brightened (cleaned) in the past. I really liked the beautiful PCGS-graded AU-58 Crimson Collection example that sold in a Scotsman Coin auction (St. Louis, Mo.) in July 2021 for $1,947.
Haha yeah. I know a lot of people don’t really like vault box. It’s an interesting concept but I’m not a big fan of gambling so it’s definitely not for me. This coin might have had some slight cleaning in the past but I believe it looks more like some pocket wear. I gave my dad his birth year half dollar years ago and he has put it in his pocket everyday and the coin shows similar wear to this without being cleaned.
Thank you! Yes, that was one of the biggest issues I had when looking for an example. Most were just super ugly. If one looked nice it often went for way more then I wanted to pay in auction. This one I was fortunate to get at a fairly decent price.
Nice one, Jadon! You did get a good deal on it, plus it's a red core! She's a beaut! I "gambled" on the 7th series vault box twice, getting two nice coins, but, alas, no red core. Enjoy it!
Thank you! The vault box series is definitely interesting. That’s cool that you bought some of them. It’s a pretty big gamble tho because most of the black core coins are usually only worth about half of what you pay if I’m not mistaken?
Nice pick up. I do like the vault box holders but haven’t participated in buying them. I just got mine secondary market like you. I do like my Morgans. Only 3 away from a full date/mint mark set. Maybe when I’m done I’ll try for a seated set
Thank you! Yes, I do like the vault box holders (especially the red ones). That’s incredible that you have almost completed the entire Morgan dollar set!! I don’t know if I would be able to ever pull that off lol. I have the completed Carson City set but to get every mint mark and date would be a tall task. I hope you are able to complete it soon! The seated dollar series is actually pretty big and would be extremely expensive. The CC seated dollars are thousands of dollars in even the lowest grades and there are very few examples out there of some of the dates. That would be a tough series to collect all of them but it would definitely be fun trying lol
Yes! I agree. I didn’t lie the 10 point grading scale. It is way too confusing to really know what the actual grade is lol. It’s hard to completely change a grading scale that has been around so long. I say there is no point in fixing something that isn’t broke.
Extra Nice! Great eye appeal!! The Seated series is often overlooked. Excellent buy. Good investment too. 👍
Thank you! It took a while to find a nice example at a decent price but I finally got one:)
@@jadonnoble5621 I think Seated Dollars are hard to come by because a lot of them were very low mintage. That one is pre-civil war Orleans, awesome.

This is a beauty. I love the Seated Liberty coins. Sounds like a really nice price.

It's good that they went back to the normal standard of AU55 instead of calling it an "8.5" like it was a comic book!
