Unfortunately, this channel has been demonetized by RUclips for the third time and therefore the Game Movie Vault has been closed. It was fun for over 10 years but I can no longer afford to spend the time to make these videos without being reimbursed by RUclips. I have started a second channel that focuses on Diablo 4 and I am thinking of starting another separate Game Lore channel very soon.

Such a good game. The game was ahead of its time. Probably also the reason why the game wasn't commercially successful.

The Art style is unique, and the secret organization and the end plot twist is very anime in the best way 😄
But if you're looking at the level/mission design it's very very classic.
Very much go to switch, go get key, open door, activate lever. It's as classic FPS as you can get.
I would argue mechanically Quake was more advanced than this.
I think story telling wise you have a point but gameplay wise it stuck with what was already well established at the time back in Nov, 2003.
@@Broockle I'm a fan of Quake 1 and all but i have no idea what you're really trying to say about XIII.
@@coltgun876 Quake level design has traps, ambushes, shortcuts, platforming, rocket+granade jumps too.
It feels like playing a Darksouls game in a way.
Interestingly you can still super see the relationship to Doom but most other Doom clones left that stuff behind in favor of what I called "classic FPS" in the earlier comment.
I'm not saying XIII is bad by any means. It's awesome in fact. But it's not genre defining, it didn't reinvent the wheel in the slightest, it just made a really good wheel. And it fell under the radar for it I feel.
It also came out 2003 which is 2 years post Halo. I think people were tired of the old formula by then and expected different things from FPS games. Instead of being Ahead of its time I think it did the opposite actually.
But it's definitely still worth playing. Great entry as a classic FPS imho.

@@zenzmatic5744 Well the game is based off a series of comic books so probably more that than the actual game.
I really hope the game get a sequel someday though. I saw they were going to release a remastered so that's a good start! Can't wait to play it again!

If there was a new movie adaptation of XIII (There was once an old Franco-Canadian adaptation), I would pick Liam Neeson to play as XIII, or Jason Fly, or whatever his name is. If it's an animated adaptation, I would pick Armen Taylor.
I'm really upset with how the remake was handled. I've seen the updates and the gameplay's graphics are better, but the cut scenes in the remake, still some of the worst game design, I've ever purchased. I have started to accept that the sequel I was hoping for, is truly dead. Think about that with me, the game was released in 2003. It's now 2023. 20yrs, I've been purchasing XIII media( Mobile App + Remake + TV Movie + French Mini Series + All 24 Vol. Comic) and now, just now I'm starting think, its not happening. But great job on the edit. Really a gem in the rough this game. Game was an honest representation of a comic video game, the design and music fit the theme. Great voice cast, fun game play. It's a shame games are nothing more then pay to play and money grabs.
