I think you used too much flame mate , you want more of a scorch than a dark burn ! ? ? This fake curly maple thing " brings back good memories when i first got into black powder guns and the very first book i purchased on the subject was " The complete black powder handbook by Sam Fadala. writes in his early days a friend purchased his very first muzzle loader, the stock was very plain looking, so Sam offered to do something with it. Basically did the same a blow torch then oil , when his mate saw the finished rifle he was so impressed with how it turned out !
@@lamebeavertradingco.1642 About the same as iron nitrate. Think I only left it overnight, did it on a stock and forearm from Fagen Wood for my 870 20 years ago. Very pleased with it.
Happy New Year. I like to leave a comment often because that helps the RUclips algorithm's more than everything else other than a huge number of subscribers.
Thank you so much for this video I use aquafortis And I like this product better. Because I don't have to heat the Maple. In order to get that aquafortis look. Because when I use aqua aquafortis it turns kinda like reddish and I want the natural look of the wood so I really thank you so much for this video.
I'm in the process of making a homemade muzzleloader, with a 1/2" bore with 209 primer. I'm going to use a pine 2 x 6 for a stock (only using stuff I have). I'm planning on doing this finish on it. (we saw the same video of the Guitar). My barrel is made of one inch.095 tubing with a 1/2" black iron pipe frozen and driven through the 1"tubing. It's just something for me to play around with.
The wire works pretty good. I'm working a #3 curly maple full stock right now for my T/C Hawken. I'm going to use aqua fortis and a red dye. I have been refining my technique with the English tea #1. The first one I did looks totally fake. This last pistol turned out pretty sweet. The tea doesn't hide the grain like bone black. Thanks for sharing.
I think odd spacing and maybe random angles across the wood a little more heat on the wire less fire on the wood and maybe a soldering gun instead of the torch. Just a thought neat video!
Thank You for your comment. The wire protects the wood from scorching. I think a soldering gun would take to long. I wonder If putting electricity on both ends of the wire would heat the wire and burn that into the wood. 12 volts, not 110 though. LOL
I wrapped my hickory tomahawk handle with two different diameters of aluminum wire , and then stained it with a combination of colors to look like curly maple, it came out good, great video thanks for posting 👍🇺🇸

Ever tried Fuming with Ammonia? Place the curly maple in a cardboard box with a bowl of ammonia for a day or two.
Never tried? Never heard of. Thank you. Does it leave a color contrast? I would like to know. Thank you

Maybe try not burning the wood might be better
