Great video man 👍
The human eye can only focus on one object at a time, that's what I was taught in the USMC 60 years ago at the rifle range it's still true today.
I hate snow. Somewhat fun for a few days if it's new to you, but living in it can really suck. I had moved from sunny California to Tennessee when I was 10 and quickly learned how hard it was to stay warm and all the extra work required. Fortunately after 1 year, my family realized we preferred the warmth of CA. Kim is a good sport to join you in clearing it up.
Always good to see you Mike. At our age, if you don't hear things popping at your joints for no good reason, you're doing really good.
When I shoot, I don't use lollipop method for aiming. I set my sights for point of impact. So where I aiming is where my shots go. The lollipop method has to much variance in aiming. My eyes are getting bad like yours. I am going to invest in new glasses with bi-focals. It sucks getting older.
Deer all day with what you have now. Great video.
Stay warm. We didn't get much here in clovis
Wowza 😅
Nice adjusting.
Fair enough 😂 we'll see what it looks like Saturday
Holy Moly Michael! Here in Pa. we just had 3 days of 70 some degrees, which is unusual. It’s very dry here and we really need some rain. Meanwhile, back on the Lame Beaver Ranch, you’re having a mess of snow! Sure looks pretty and I can taste that snowy day coffee too! Thanks for sharing all that beauty! And May I suggest some more dog people and a sled so you don’t miss any events, eh? But snowed in with a fresh pot of JO sounds pretty good! Many Blessings! DaveyJO ☕️in Pennsylvania
I'm seeing on the news about the very warm weather in your part of the country, and the wild fires in N.J. Thank you for your comment.
Man, you guys can have that cold weather; i live in a semi tropical state of Australia called Queensland, that weather would kill me. By the way, GO TRUMP, boy have some people here got their panties in a knot because he won. Suck it up i say, interesting times ahead. My family have been poisoned by JW cult so i watch you guys with interest. Say good day to Kimmy & stay warm.
Thank you. I will tell Kim. I find it very intriguing, and how easy it is to relate the liberals and how they behave, it is very much like the mind controlled JW's. Any cult for that fact. It's like looking in a mirror, it's so plain to see. Try telling them how JW's behave and they will never be able to see they behave in the same manner. But I do notice though many are also waking up to their bull shit . I watched a former Dem state in her video, Now that Trump won you decide to keep you legs closed. Putting it politely. Go figure. I am seeing all kinds of hate for men by women. It's very sad, having escaped form a mind control cult myself. Have a great day mate.
Need frozen foot there.
Apt name.
I'll trade ya bud, I'm here in central PA trying to bow hunt the rut in a 85 degree heat wave.
I figured out staying put is where its at. Not crazy about vehicles in the ditch or in the ravine. Most folks think they have to go somewhere when it snows here in western NC.
It's called having good judgment. Lets see Rendezvous, or expensive car repairs. LOL
Wow ouch. Yes Sir I'd say so.
Ya can't wait for the crap 6 months of winter good video 👍
I love the snow,we haven’t been getting the snow these last few years. I live up near Lake Erie and we get the lake affect snow. Right now you have more snow than I had all last year. I love the first snow fall where everything is white. We usually have snow by now,but these last few days we were in the 70’s. I just hope we have some snow for the first day of deer season, which comes in the Saturday after Thanksgiving
If you happened to see any news about this storm, it parked right over us. 13 miles further south, the got 24".
Corn meal is non combustible and is pushed up into the grooves under the patch reducing gas blowby.....all kinds of interesting things to try......I had a cap and ball revolver loaded 5 months ..no problem with right technique...but that another story
Thank you. My rifle is coned, corn meal would not help in this application.
Have you used an over powder patch or card.....have you tried corn meal over the powder...I have seen articles over the years claiming benefits over both .... and also saw saw one person using a wafer of lube under the bullet
I did a use and recorded my attempt at using a patch over the powder, but because my rifles are coned I have to stick with a spit patch.
Are you going to still make a video from the bench where you shoot with and without your loading rod in the gun? I suggested this a bit ago. Shoot like 3 shots of each please?
I already did. I think you missed it.
Hello would you like to sell one of your cap making setups. I'd like to have something of my hero in my collection. Ur the best. Thanks
Nice
Thank you very much for keeping things simple. Too many people over complicate things. That tends to take the pleasure away of getting into certain hobbies.
So, I saw a video the other day, where a gentleman from the U.K. mixed together the 3 ingredients to make B.P.. Amongst other things. That was all he did, was mix it completely. He then loaded it into a flint lock pistol, and it went "bang" just like the real commercial B.P. he shot. Obviously, not with as much force. But it did work. So my question is, how much difference does it really make. If you actually weigh out each charge, and shoot it. Now I don't own a cap n ball revolver yet. So my little world is a rifle. How much velocity difference is there doing all that extra work and expense of tools?
The difference is like the difference between a lightning bolt and a glowworm.
Nice work! That 's very interesting. I'm going to try that.
Any plans to sell conical on the etsy shop?
No, firstly I do not have any conical molds for Black powder guns, Strictly round ball, and I may sell my TC maxi ball mold, have not decided on that yet.
😅@lamebeavertradingco.1642 well if you decide to sell I'm in the market.
Aim small miss small!
I have deer walk by my windows occasionally Mike but the Elk are up in northern Pa. My sister and brother in law lived in Jackson Hole for 12-15 years and what Beautiful animals they are! Bet you thought the Elk Fairy visited, eh? And good shootin I’d say! Kind Thanks, give you elk, deer, dogs and chickens hugs for me and keep your powder loaded! Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Thank you. The Elk are an awesome animal.
Ok, dummy here, why does a coned barrel throw a greased patch off? Not trolling, I really don’t understand
Any oil burns, at that moment the ball reaches the void of the coning the fire is getting around the patch and depending on the twist, ( right or left) the ball travels more or less in that direction. The ball looses contact with the patch, because the flame ignites the patch in stead of protecting the ball . Look how far I have noted picking up my spit patches, compared to oiled patches, most oiled patched do not go beyond the chronograph, at about 12 feet. My spit patches travel sometimes 50, 60 feet away. Hope this gives you some insight.
@@lamebeavertradingco.1642 thanks
FYI if you want to shoot accurately, the muzzle needs to be perfectly flat and square. That is why competitive shooters have a false muzzle they load through, it is removed before the shot. There is not much info on competitive Muzzle loading on RUclips. If you really want to become an expert shot find some competitive bench shooters. There is a lot to learn about BP shooting, most of what you see on the tube is very basic and some is just wrong. I love lame beaver's videos and his honesty but I would have to agree that his shot is way too far from dead center at 30 yards off the bench. Perhaps a conversation about crowning sporting rifles would be a good topic for a video. Keep up the good work, lame beaver.🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
@@dlh1947us Perhaps I should have kept my glasses on, I did state with them off the target would be fuzzy. That's why I showed the target with the maxi ball shooting. I had my glasses on during that shoot.
Man your lucky to have elk wish we had them in upper Michigan very educational Mike like your videos learned lots thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
It's my comment you're referring to, "For me, unacceptable". I need a rifle to shoot where I'm aiming. Almost all my shots at game with a muzzleloader are off hand. I can miss on my own, I don't want extra help. If my rifle is sighted in dead nuts on the bench obviously I can't hold the same groups off hand. If I'm three inches off from the off hand position from my lack of steadiness, plus even more do to drying out of a patch , I could miss or even worse wound the animal. I can't remember what distance you shot the paper plate at but as we all know the divergence from center is only going to get worse the farther away the target is shot at. There wasn't any malice or ego in my comment, it wouldn't work for me in the hunting field.
Is your rifle coned?? If not than this video and shot are irrelevant to you, in the sense you can use a pre lubed patch. I can not because of the coning. I did a video explaining this issue, and how others years ago reading the same articles in Muzzle Loader Magazine had the same issues. The purpose at that time was to do away with the (non period correct) use of a short starter. Also saving loading time in timed events. The end results were, was the use of a spit patch. For me this is the first in several years I have not killed a deer on opening day, or one at all. Remember, I stated I was going to shoot with my glasses off which would as I stated make the target fuzzy, and my rear sight clear. The video I did with the maxi ball shows this rifle does shoot straight. FYI this rifle is sighted in at 50 yards, the 30 yard shot would impact a little high. Testing my home made BP also shows what this rifle can do. The Ego comment was not directed at you, I have made that comment multiple times on this channel, also in reference to those I have competed with over the years, it's a general observation regarding those I have competed with. There are those who will never compete shooting at paper targets, because their egos can not handle their misses with off hand shooting and those who will never shoot at steel targets, they find trail walks boring, or do not like having a fellow shooter go with them to keep things honest. After over 30 years I have seen it all. I have to consider all things when making comment in videos, and who might click on that video years later. Hope this helps. Kind Regards
Not that you need my analysis.
Good, you are correct.
Hi Mike, Great Video really cool tent set up !! I almost smelled that coffee through the video !!! Sorry about the rain and have a great hunting season !!
Another good video Mike. Hope you and Kim are doing good.
Any news if Frozen Foot is going to be at your place?
No, Same Location as last year, East of Silver City. Hope to see you there.
Nice Camp Michael
Ahh propane. Buck skinners dirty little secret. Send some of that rain our way. Its been a month without since Helene put 20" on us. I think folks must have cursed the rain. A little venison would be a tasty treat right now. Thanks for sharing your camp. be well
Sound's like it was pouring and that fog can work to your advantage great video 👍
Absolutely Beautiful Michael! Your home sweet home looks cozy with fresh roasted JO, a nice bed to crawl into and I never minded rain on a tent. Although after a time and when you want to get out and hunt? Well it could get make one a bit antsy. But I’m sure you experienced far worse and longer spells of rain, cold and snow. Looks like your rifle did just fine after a week. I have a Colt pocket gun a Wells Fargo they call it and it was loaded months. That’s because I’d loaded it up at the range and forgot my caps! So I’d say it was 3-4 months later I finally remembered everything I needed and wondered if it would preform okay and it did just fine. My Mentor always warned me that if I ever worked on old muskets to never stand in front of the muzzle because often people would have a load in them ready at the door, just in case. Good advice I’d say. Thanks So Much Michael! I always enjoy your adventures. Many Blessings and Good Hunting! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
For me, unacceptable. It would have to impact at least around the outer edge of the red bull.
Good
Everything black powder channel has made this video obsolete
I use my warn out sawzall blades. I double them as a shim spring under the factory springs. The thickness of the blades varies, so it’s easier to find one that will provide the tension I want to start with. After I copy the shape of the main spring I thin them down on my belt sander until they give me the flex and tension that I’m looking for. Most of the time I make them about three quarters the length of the original spring, pretty much never make them the full length. It seems to work pretty well and the added tension along with nipple reworking and polishing the hammer face, I’ve pretty much eliminated cap ignition, cap pull and jamming issues. I don’t buy replacement nipples either. By working the nipple faces I’ve learned ways to enhance the performance of the originals pretty good. After I work them down to the length i want them, I make sure they are screwed in tight enough and then cut a very light little notch where the hammer face safety slot meets the cone… this creates a consistent weak spot much like the hole drilled in the Slixshot nipples. I have also chucked them up in my drill press and drill holes in them on occasion to copycat slix, but it really doesn’t seem to work any better and it’s a lot more work… just remember to number them so they always go back in the same hole and keep correct alignment. I’ve learned many little tricks here and there that work pretty well and doesn’t cost a fortune. - another trick is to take a good size safety pin and trim it down and copy the trigger/bolt spring geometry as a replacement. I’ve had many broken bolt springs over the years and I’ve NEVER had a safety pin replacement break! You can get a lot of safety pins for the $14 they want for one trigger/bolt spring! “Just some thoughts.” Thanks for sharing yours! 🤠👍
Is your video reversed? Or is that a left handed flintlock?
Thanks for the video. Yesterday UPS just dropped off my new Pietta 1858 Remington New Model Army .44 caliber Black Powder Revolver. Your video will help me adjust the sights, after I put 50 shoots through the gun.
Hi Mr. Lame Beaver - regarding the RED coloration on your pistol grips/stocks .. I read that those made by the original Colts factory were actually dyed red using ALKANET ROOT stain that ages to the darker black walnut colour of the antique originals with time and the oils and grease of the years.
What screen sizes do you use for 2 and 3F??
