I’ve been looking forward to see your new pistol in action and it worked out perfect. I’ve been watching while chomping down on a fresh ear of sweet corn bought at a close by Amish farm. It goes so well with Shootin I can honestly say. Sure, it would be more fun if I was shooting too but I can’t complain at all! Thanks Kindly and Many Blessings Michael! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I have one that does this also. But otherwise it functions perfectly. What I’ve been doing is leaving one nipple uncapped then lowering the hammer on that nipple then rotate the cylinder to a safety notch so that will then allow me to cap that nipple. I plan on replacing the nipples with some slix shot nipples if it still does it then I’ll fix it.
My Pietta 1861 Navy had the bolt stop coming up too quick as well - I just extended the ramps ahead of the notches a bit... Mine shot right to point of aim with 25 Gr of Pyrodex and a Hornady round ball (forget the actual diameter but standard). Oh and I use the lubed felt wads. This is just for load and shoot, I wouldn't use lubed wads if I intended to leave it loaded for any length of time - dry wads though, I would - I'd just lube over the balls. The 1861 is really a great shooter. And I don't mind the barrel being a bit too long for historical perfection... Thanks for the vid! Enjoyed it and congrats on your new Pietta.
Slixshots makes an aluminum handle that’s very light but it was too weak for the short loading lever and mine broke. However I was able to cut it down and get it to work on the shorter loading lever anyway. It’s been a lifesaver for loading with a short loading lever. Also, my wads only seem to fly out at about 20 yards. I didn’t catch what distance you were shooting at but there’s a possibility that if you move the target back away, the wads won’t make it to the target and impact on target you’re using.
TC is returning....it would be great if they would pick out a few bp guns to reproduce in usa.....i would hope they could be affordable not having to pay imports. Im also hoping to add a few new/ old stock barrels for contender. I'll have to check my Italian bps for this thanks
you would think that the manufacturers could do a better job of sight installation so that there is less windage error. Elevation errors are easier for the shooter to correct without modifying the gun
I would like to make a suggestion. Instead of messing with the cam ln my experience I would just dress off the face of the hammer. That all so prevents mushrooming the cones. I try to get the hammer just so it is touching the top of the cone firm enough to pop the cap consistently. I would try that first before messing with with the cam it controls the timing of the revolver. I'm not an expert this just my experience.✌✌
Hi , like watching your videos. I see your NM Cap what county you live in I'm in Otero I'm retired and have a lot of BP cap and ball pistols and rifles. I can't find anyone here with same intrest.
Hmm? I was 100% Ubertie, but I got a few from the 80's ish and they where less than pleaseing? Not totally finished. So Now maybe I need my 1st Pietta ? as they look 100% equale in quality of manufactue? my loyalties may be miss placed. But "I do Love!" the Adventire! so it's not a problem, but An Opertunity! Imposible to be "embarrassed" shooting any systems' fisrts! neverninf black powders?
My 1861 Navy Uberti has zero travel after cocking. It feels like it hits a metal stop basically. Did Pietta ever get rid of their stamp on the top of the barrels?
I have had two pistols that shot to the left. One traded. The second one I sent back they got it close. What do you do when a revolver shots to one side. How do you fix it? I would like to do it my self.
The best way for me is to dove tail in a Remington sight. I did that on my 62 pocket Police,(Uberti) and on my ASM 51 navy. I have all ready ordered a Remington sight for this revolver. I did already replace the front blade with a thinner piece of brass. I don't think I will help that much at this point, but we'll see.
I think companies that produce these replica guns are price gouging BP enthusiasts. There is no reason why a new gun should need work right out of the factory. People are letting them get away with this. People allow this sort of thing from the companies so it continues. Meanwhile you pay for guns that you have to gunsmith yourself. Insane. I can see it on used guns and I expect it, but not on new guns.
Right now there is no competition for them. Start up a company yourself and show them how it should be. Imagine a American made cap and Ball Revolver, you would blow them right out of the water. Imagine what you would have to pay for the bare metal to machine a American BP revolver. Until then we have to play the hand we are delt with. All Prices have gone up even Cimarron has greatly increased their prices, and that's even on a Uberti.

Man I find this very interesting,, and the refitting and timing required on new ones scares me!
... my two full size 1860 Army piettas are accurate and reliable... Ive considered the short barreled sheriff model until now ...
Thank you Mike ! Awesome video!

Where I was shooting from is 15 yards.

Thanks for the update. Also, any flintlock pistol that's fun, you can recommend?
Sorry. I don't have a flint lock Pistol.

Have you ever rabbit hunter or squirrel hunting with your black powder
Yes Have. That's all I use. I have a 36 cal long gun. Scroll back and you will see it. "More Powder, More Pressure, More Velocity"

They are no longer stamped, they are Laser Etched, fairly shallow.
