Thanks Michael! I can all but smell that powder and with the rain on the tin roof made everything very pleasant! Many Blessings and Good Shootin! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Thanks, good explanation. I always thought the white smoke and residue was supposed to be mostly potassium sulfide, but I don’t know, probably a mix of a lot of stuff.
I Have been subscribed to your channel for quite a while and somtimes I dont agree with you,..but I really appreciate all the time and effort you make.THANKS
Yup because of the touch hole in a flintlock i always use a hotter charge than you would put in a cap lock. Black powder will always be the dirtiest propellant to use. But it's fun to use. Black powder shooting is a choice. Complaining about it does nothing.
Yes Sir that's them ones that know everything . You know us dummies don't know much. Lol ole Lord help us please. We need you more than ever I do believe. But anyway Mr L Beaver thanks for making these videos and sharing with us to learn and burn with. Even though few don't need them (videos) but a lot of us do. And a lot of us appreciate it ,ur time, and knowledge along with all ur experience. Least I do. Lol hey let me look down that barrel. Now pull the trigger I ain't got my bullet shielding safety glasses 🕶️ on. Don't get ur finger away from that trigger am looking it's dark down there. U got a flashlight . Not laser it will set it off. My uncle done it when we couldn't find barrels. Yelp barrels we had all kinds of caps 3,4 years back shoot I'm wearing one now John Deere. See it's old cap deer is spelled Deere. Ga I know caps. Truckers, construction, hunting, golfing, baseball yeah 👍🏻 I sure know caps I don't know what the big deal was I found them I had them shoot I've thrown them out. Yes Sir let me look down that barrel. Lol. Boy ole boy. Them damn charcoal suckers. Gotta watch them. Ok say safe from ur ole hillbilly buddy
I believe I'd be using the home grown stuff in my flashpan less fouling under the flint and into the frizzen. Less fouling = cleaner flame = better ignition.
There is far more gas and fouling escaping the vent hole than gas and fouling generated by the charge in the pan. You prick the vent hole because of the powder charge in the barrel, not from the pan charge. I believe the erroneous commenter either doesn’t shoot, own or understand a flint lock and how they work.

That’s it ! You are on it!
I don't think people realize that grains is a measure of mass, not volume!

Don’t worry about it there will always be those kind of people just keep doing what you are doing .I enjoy your videos
People's inability to rationalize surprises me. 😮
You are correct Mike.

charcoal delivers the gas . suplhur the fuel ,gets the oxygen out off the salpetre to make c02 gas from the charcoal carbon

Love your video

Been using swamp willow, black willow does it make any difference in charcoal.
I got you, you're a smart man,... Don't let the green horns get to you, plenty of amateurs out there...
Great video i like it 👍
Powder will vary from batch to batch.
Elephant powder is terrible energy wise, I'm surprised that you had some...
Had a can of that years ago. Was the only real black I could find by me. Definitely was not the best powder I've used.
Lol 😂
Is said commenter using his load on deer? If you can reuse your patches, you aren't burning much powder.
