Y'know, I discovered Mr. Cochran while looking for a live version of "The Harlem Shuffle". Lots of people have given this video flack, but I personally think this is great (coming from a black guy). May he rest in peace.
@miamiwax James Brown and Wayne Cochran knew each other, though I can't say how well. Wayne told a friend of mine who interviewed him about 15 years ago that while , of course , he had the utmost respect for Brown , and for Otis Redding , that the feeling was mutual , because they knew he was not a fake.
Mr Brown had Mr Cochran on his own TV show! A one minute google search will show you a photo of Wayne and Otis sitting down eating pork chops together.
He was awesome and he is from my hometown of Thomaston,Ga. and I saw him perform in Jacksonville,Fla. in 1971 or 72 when I was a Marine stationed at NAS Cecil Field Marine Barracks outside of Jacksonville, and I spoke with him during a break in the lobby of the nightclub and told him who I was and who my family was and how much I had always liked his music and I still have a few of his records, and I have seen him preaching on t.v. from Miami,Fla. in the past. God Bless you and yours, Reverend Wayne Cochran from Upson County, Ga. my home sweet home brother!
I discovered Mr Cochran accidentally and I'm fascinated. What a bluesy soul voice. What a smooth dancer! Can anybody give me a hint, where to find a tutorial for this dance moves?
He's considered one of the all time greatest performers. His live shows are the stuff of legend. His race is irrelevant. The soul performers of that era were all friends, it's not surprising that they would have similar dance and singing styles.
Amen,,,best LIVE show Ive ever seen, no one can imagine how wild he could make a audience, dancein g,singing, throwing napkins and poring clubs whiskey.

Wayne Cochran, James Brown and Otis Redding, and the Allman Brothers,etc.,etc. are from Georgia and so many others for sure, just look it up dorks!!!!!!!
Discovered this man via a list of the worst album covers of all time. Was very pleasantly surprised to discover that he had a fucking incredible voice that more than makes up for his haircut!
I remember watching this show - it was Robin Seymour's "Swingin' Time" in Detroit - Swingin' Time featured 50 to 75 local kids dancing six days a week to the top billboard hits. Each show, two teens were chosen to offer "yea" or "boo" opinions on new records. The 30-minute weekday shows were broadcast live, and the hour-long Saturday show was taped early in the day and aired at 3 pm.
@Laurence O'Connor WTF does that mean , oh i get it it's your lame attempt to conceal what you are, you do have the mental capacity to comprehend what the word BORROWED and it's definition right?i could have said stolen but since Wayne always gave props i chose a cleaner word to show exactly what he did.
hasn't anybody ever noticed, that this is a poorly done lip sync vid???? he may be great when singing live, but that one lives from his dance moves, for he never even tries to haide the fake...
I loved when Wayne came to the Castaways lounge in Calumet City, Illinois just a little south of Chicago.. He brought the house down...jammed packed lounge all night.

That's not a shuffle, but it is a cookin' drummer and band. Shuffles are syncopated, and for a drummer there must be a hundred variations of how a shuffle is played.
I'm from the same hometown he is, and there is no mention of him or honor for him or anything here. I only found out about him because of Tina turners autobiography and I looked him up. That's crazy he is never mentioned here.
James Brown not only rated Wayne, he had him as a guest on his TV show...
