The problem isn't the shops. Its the fact there is a black market for these things. Basically you can get them off of pretty much anyone with contacts. So it's impossible to police outside of stopping every single minor that walks down the road every single day which won't happen. Where I grew up the high street has 11 vape shops, there were 6 before labour took power in 2024 and that went up to 11, they are always empty with no customers

Wouldn't it be better to have it only available on prescription for smokers only? To help them quit. And the patients have to pay for the prescriptions, too. So it doesn't pressure the NHS anymore. That way, it's only the smokers using it, and availability is just so limited.

I highly doubt kids are using vapes because they ''look like sweeties.' Perhaps for 5 year olds, but for any older child it's the desire to emulate smoking in a way that is highly concealable, tastes nicer and doesn't feel as dangerous or scary as a cigarette. Kids have been smoking forever, vapes are the current 'thing' and unfortunately most corner shops will sell to whoever comes in regardless of age, which isn't being cracked down on at all. Working in retail in the past, you risk losing your job over forgetting to ID a secret shopper on any given day, but corner shops apparently avoid these regulations and are just allowed to do whatever they want under the guise of private business. Anyone selling nicotine to children should be banned from business, why this isn't being investigated is shocking to me. I doubt every single kid bringing a vape into school has a cool older sibling to buy it for them. Also refillable vapes are not more expensive at all, it would cost someone far less to get a refillable vape and buy some £2 juice from their local shop instead of going down to buy a £6-£10 disposable vape every week.

Not a £30-50 vape that you need to maintain, constantly buy coils for and end up with bottles of e-liquid they don't like. I spent just over £70 for a blue smok branded vape, the lithium batterys and a pack of coils, supposedly its one of the best brands according to the "VPZ" guy who sold me it a few years ago but if it wasn't coils burning out, it was the tank/unit leaking etc. I used to go in at least every fortnight with some issue relating to that unit. I bought that smok vape because a mate had a green camo one, he praised it, then dumped it for some reason but he went to disposables instead and he let me try this vape called a "crystal bar" the flavour was "honey melon". I expected to hate it, like most flavours but I loved it. 2 years later I still buy a box of 10 a week at £25 excluding delivery. One vape lasts me 3-4 days. I don't need to worry about it leaking, it burning out or it falling out my pocket to smash on the groynes because it's plastic. The company must have good quality control because I've only ever opened two that didn't work. That's why some people don't buy a refillable vape. There's too many things to worry about and people need to realise, the world needs options. People need to stop being small minded and remember, just because it works for you, that doesn't mean it works for me

Trouble with that is if one or two parents smokes then its very likely that their kids will too. My parents smoked and all of their 6 daughters did too when in our early teens. All quit when we were in our 40/50s though. I have 3 sons and the two eldest never started smoking at all, although the youngest who is in his middle 20s now has vaped since he was 16 and has found it very hard to give up. We do silly things when young and when we are old enough to try alcohol cigs and vaping many do. There are lots of things people can get addicted to besides the smoking and alcohol which can and does affect our health. For those who have an addictive nature/personality they will get hold of it somehow in some way. If very young people can be given some incentive and be educated on the dangers and negatives of what drugs and alcohol does then that might work. We all know how gullible and manipulative a young mind can be.

The refills require a lot of upkeep where delisposables dont. You have to regularly buy coils, batteries etc I think this will actually help
