Eighteen trillion is a massive figure, affording that would be difficult. To put it in perspective, you could pay ten million pensioners £215.00p a year for cold weather payments for 8,372 years, that's every single pensioner The mind boggles! 😮
I have the perfect solution to reparations demands: make it a voluntary donation from people willing to pay reparations not forced upon people who don't give a damn! Good luck trying to divide 55p between all those millions demanding free money!
UK is not the same government, nor are any officials still alive for their decisions, and it was too long ago to hold the UK responsible, time cannot be on trial or prosecuted.
If any money is involved it should go on fighting modern slavery. Also African nations involved in gathering slaves should pay their share. Many were ripped away and sold by their own people.
What about the slaves who were sold to the Arab countries? The men were castrated and that’s why there are no black folk in the Middle East. The Africans rounded up their own folk for sale to the slave traders. Shall we ask the Nordic countries to pay out, shall we ask all the countries who were involved in slavery to pay out?

That Holocaust reference at the end was a terrible analogy, and certainly one that should not be said with a smile on one's face. Especially by a woman who so clearly has materially benefited from injustices in the past, which were likely perpetrated upon her ancestors. By comparison, had an ancestor of hers been subjected to the Holocaust, she would most likely have never been born. I doubt I even need to mention the difference in the amount of time passed when comparing slavery to the Holocaust, nor point out the disparity in the degree of material benefit gained. It is entirely plausible that Jewish descendants of those in the Holocaust would be just as well off materially if that horror had never occurred. Such descendants would certainly be richer in numerous other ways had it never happened. For this talking head to say the same for herself and her situation, she would have to sincerely wish to trade places with the descendant of a someone who avoided capture and enslavement; a descendant now likely living in Ghana or Nigeria. That is, unless she is subject to the deluded belief that Ghana and Nigeria would be thriving, wealthy paradises had the Atlantic Slave Trade never occurred. She should drop the poor comparison strategy and just deal directly with the caller's point. She should admit she has materially benefited from the enslavement of her ancestors and then explain why this still doesn't make her feel better or justify the caller's overall position on reparations. I imagine that most of us have benefited from terrible suffering and injustice done to our ancestors if we trace our family trees far enough back. If I meditate on this thought, it produces a combination of sorrow and gratitude, not a quest to get even and get paid, because those who did the wrong died a long time ago, and the justice was owed my ancestor, not to me.
Is your point that we should go back to the dawn of civilization and hold every single ancestor responsible for their actions and that this responsibility travels through their descendants to the present day?
