    Hi,
    I just enjoyed the brief about the IPA and the interpretation. That was to the point, IPA is a great research method for psychologists and social scientists, it's all about making sense of lived experiences in a given context in the phenomenon.
    Thank you
    Aisha

    Professor, thanks for an informative presentation. I'm researching pre-merger communication. I'm interested in Practitioner's lived experiences to identify communication mechanisms in the pre-merger phase of M&A. What form of analysis would you recommend I use?

    Hi dr Azher, thanks so much for making it easier to understand. Question sir: is it IPA suitable to use when i study open defecation behavior among rural communities, while myself actively advocate to change such behavior?
    I am aware should be very careful and thoughtful when conducting in-depth interviews and FGD to capture their experiences and contextual circumstances. But yes, listening to this video, i think i need to seek your advice whether or not using IPA.
    If not IPA, what approach can i use?
    Many thanks sir for your response.

    • @SocialResearch
      @SocialResearch  3 года назад

      Thank you Silva. I think IPA is not for the study you mentioned here. Open defecation is somehow a collective behaviour and people are doing it , may be perceiving it as normal.. and that may be for several reasons.. such as lack of resources, economic issues, cultural factors etc. I think you can begin with a formative research design.. in which you go for in-depth interviews and explore the behaviour as found common at the place where you are conducting your study. Formative research design (you may explore in detail) are used to design inventions that are later applied and evaluated. So your study is a qualitative study and you will use an inductive approach but it is not an 'IPA' study that is more related to individual experience.

      Dr Azher.....million thanx for instant reaponse. Thank you thank you thank you sir....
      I am glad you have saved me from making such a big mistake....
      Yes sir, i will set aside IPA for next behavior to study. And for open defecation, i will just do an elicitation to allow me in developing TPB items.
      Again thank you so much sir. Keep sharing your brain for a better world sir....

    Sir, if I'm observing participants in real-life situations, then can ipa be used there? I'm not interviewing them, but merely silently observing how they interact with one another in their setting.

    • @SocialResearch
      @SocialResearch  3 года назад +1

      Observation may not inform how it is experienced. You need to conduct in-depth in interviews. Though the observation can provide you rich data to reflect back what is happening and how is it happening. But for the insider perspective on the lived experience that you are studying require interview data. Hope it helps.

      @@SocialResearch yes it did. Thanks. I have collected interviews as well. But, one objective is just based on observation.
      Correct me if I'm wrong as I have just started to understand phenomenology and IPA. Phenomenology can be used as a theoretical framework and IPA is the method under it?

    • @SocialResearch
      @SocialResearch  3 года назад +1

      @@trishnachaudhuri4705 Yes Phenomenology is a theoretical framework and IPA is an analytical approach that has its theoretical underpinning in phenomenology. However, using IPA means that we are doing descriptive and interpretative phenomenology with an emphasis on individual experience.

    Hello, may I know if transcendental phenomenological study focuses on the past, current, and future or just the current experience?

    • @SocialResearch
      @SocialResearch  2 года назад +2

      It is about lived experience, that is consciously emerged within use, and that we describe as 'what happened, how did it happen, and why did it happen that way'. Hence, it includes description of feeling, thinking, memories, judgment, and perceptions that we attach to that experience as an individual. So, past and present are well connected and that is what researcher focus to understand phenomenon. 'Future' has not been experienced yet. However, participants may perceive their future and tell us about how they will feel and response in similar situations in future, and that is not independent of their past experience.
