- Drawing from SURFER’s “Clips of the Month” series, here’s a (very arguable) list of the “Clips of the Year.” No matter how you slice it, 2018 was an incredible trip around the sun for surfing, and each clip will attest to that.
Do you think it’s a coincidence that in a year where wave pool technology continued to make leaps and bounds that Skeleton Bay managed to produce one of the most flawless waves ever caught on film? The wave can be interpreted as Mother Nature’s scoff to man’s attempt at what she’s perfected over thousands of years. Or it can just be enjoyed as the drool rolls down your chin during its viewing, again, and again. Either way, the Namibian screamer that spat rainbows occupies the top spot in 2018’s “Clips of the Year.”

That last wave is SO insane...like a years worth of barrel ti.e in one wave..
Just pause the film at 1:30 and have a good long look at that monster, that is one of the meanest looking waves I've ever seen, paddling out and seeing that about to unload on your head would be so terrifying..

Lucky there is a deep channel. you wouldn't ever paddle through impact zone at cloudbreak on big days. It's shallow as hell and the power of the wave and water moving across the reef is crazy.

That last indo shot was trully a gift in the wonderful world of waves, best of entire video, heads up to those who were blessed to be their this day with lenses on this wave, beautiful.

Holy crap. That last one was the sh**. I miss the ocean so frickin bad. Moved back to Seattle in 90's and I still want to wake up at 5am on a Saturday to go down and get my spot for the OP Pro in Huntington. Sucks getting older.

Cam Richards got the longest & deepest tube ever at the Pipe.
Yeah that was one of the highlights for me no doubt.. not many people on earth can charge Pipeline like that!!? For me personally tho that Kai Lenny clip was absolute bonkers.. To carve the upper lip only to freefall like 25ft and then stomp it??! Naw man that was fucking epic.. I mean Koa's wave @SB was an obvious "once in a lifetime fairytale" wave that EVERY surfer on this planet DREAMS about so I totally agree with the top spot for 2018 but Kai's wave/clip should be co-top spot haha..

Yup.. Ive seen Kai's part so many times it was by far one of the most epic moments of 2018. Seriously who's carving the top lip of a 45ft wave into a damn 25ft+ freefall floater haha.. Send it!!!
