      Chanovia While art is subjective and maybe you saw that in FFH, but the theme of living up to Iron Man’s legacy especially postmortem, is a theme that can take multiple movies. I never got the impression that in HC Peter forgoes Iron Man, I just saw it as him accepting that he needs to grow as a hero before trying to take the responsibility of being an Avenger. After Endgame, Peter now is in a place where everyone is looking for him to be greater than he believes he is, and by the end of the movie, with Happy’s speech, he sees that greatness isn’t about being flawless or not making mistakes, it’s just about doing the right thing when you can. But again...art is subjective so I won’t belabor a dead argument.

    Hey may not be torn with finances anymore, but he's still torn socially. Always between the bigger Avengers world "out there" and the "friendly neighborhood" down here.
    He struggles between both. Homecoming was him trying to be big but accepting to be small. IW was him going big. Far From Home was him struggling to stay small.
    As you said, he could go cosmic. And that would be awesome. Or he could grow up and get married. That works too.

    • @armchaircritic2248
      @armchaircritic2248 5 лет назад +22

      One important thing you missed was that Peter went big in IW just to stay small since he says "You can't be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man without a neighborhood. " But he fails to take the gauntlet off of Thanos and says "I'm sorry " to Tony because he thinks he failed. Then he returns only to be greeted with a lot a people wanting him to be the next "Iron Man. " I think that's why I loved FFH because with the context of IW every emotional beat hits hard, especially Tony's grave since Peter blames himself for the death of Tony because he didn't take away the gauntlet. Really looking forward to the future of this Spider-Man because he still has a lot of potential!

    As a huge Spider-Man fan, I keep seeing these sad fanboys that are sad about the mcu version. For me, the comics already do justice to the story of Spider-Man. I don’t need the classic concepts on the big screen. The mcu version is taking the parts of the character that are the punchy, comic-y traits and I think that’s cool!
    For me, it’s kinda like Peter Pan. There are so many different versions. There’s like 6 different origin stories in the form of novel, cartoon, miniseries, RUclips series and movie. And that’s cool! Want a Peter that’s an old, sad man who’s lost the wonder of his childhood? There’s a movie for that. Want a story that more about a secret society that protects magic? There’s a book series that Peter gets swept up in! The idea of Peter is always roughly the same, but the story that is told is wildly different. I personally LOVE that. Growing up and enjoying each of the iterations at different points of my childhood was awesome!
    So all the different spideys that exist in comics, novels, cartoons, and movies are still Spider-Man!! And so is the mcu Spider-Man.

      Okay... but what if we were to take peter pan, and instead of it being the story of a impish (at times hyperviolent) child whose exiled himself to a swashbuckling fantasy --- and change it to a character who is trapped in Neverland and just is wishing to get out, bitter and depressed about being stuck in Neverland, and carelessly lets Captain Hook take it over because he's instead adolescently nihilistic?
      You'd probably be upset because right away you would recognize that's *not* Peter Pan.
      As you referenced Hook to appeal to the versatility of a character, -- yes, changes and reinterpretations of the character and their story can be made. Yes, we can take these stories in directions we've never seen before. But when it gets to the point where it ceases to be subversive and instead effectively *overwrites* the original qualities of the character -- it goes to far and raises the question why the property is even being adapted.
      That's what's been done to this new take on Spider-Man. All of the surface level components are still there, he's still a young kid, he's a superhero, he has the same powers and he fights the same villains, but the base level personality traits like that Peter Pan analogy I made earlier have been altered to the point of being unrecognizable.
      Peter Parker is a hyper intelligent nerd who before his spider powers struggled to connect with others and was a subject of ragged bullying. He was a loner who found that his only solution was to recede into himself and immerse himself into his chemistry studies, gifted science abilities, and his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Leading him to be an emotionally stunted individual who had a variety of neurotic complexes before he even got the spider-bite. Afterwards, -- his call to adventure by becoming a superhero forces him to change his initial tendencies of selfishness and confront his perceptions that the world was out to get him and see the bigger picture -- as well as see that he's found a calling to protect it even at the expense of his own life.
      At its most basic, Spider-Man's character arc is one from a selfish unsociable character to a dutiful and loyally committed hero.
      But that's being fundamentally ignored in this version the same way how someone could write Peter Pan to be a nihilistic adolescent to the point that its not a reinterpretation of the character -- it's a reinterpretation of the brand.
      But to most kids who likely missed the subtext of the original movies and only remember playing with plastic webshooters, I'm sure it makes no difference...

    YES. Yes to all of this. Peter Parker's social connections and the world he lives in now totally alters his circumstances. I'm okay with Tony Stark being this Spider-Man's Uncle Ben figure, I mean he's basically the father of the MCU, so that makes sense. And also, Peter Parker doesn't have to always be a self serious crybaby in a perpetual state of deep depression to be interesting... He can be fun and light-hearted and still have emotional complexity. Not one interpretation of Spider-Man is the same (or right or wrong for that matter)... And also I find a Spider-Man who has opportunities to be in the big leagues but ACTIVELY chooses to be a working class, street level hero (unless it is necessary for him to be a helping hand) is much more interesting and heroic.

    One of the main problems with people like HiTop is that their "perfect" version of Spider-man.....is not Spider-man at all, he's basically Angel. Always brooding, constantly mourning Uncle Ben's death, NEVER allowing himself to experience.....life, happiness, not looking up waiting for that shoe to drop. When, in the books, he does just that; and yeah, he has money, problems.....and people problems...and villains who constantly wanna kill him, BUT when that's all sorted out, he can continue living. But according to Hi Top, Peter isn't allowed to go on vacation, or smile.....or celebrate the fact that he saved his friends life.....AND got the girl in the process; which is kinda backwards for someone calling themselves a Spider-man fan.

While there are differences that doesn’t mean he isn’t Peter, he’s still the guy willing to get up and fight even when he doesn’t have to or people tell him to stay out of it. He isn’t trying to impress iron man in homecoming but prove that he can be an equal and seen as a great hero. This Peter relates to me, I’m 15 I don’t deal with money troubles, I deal with living up to people I idolize while making my own path, be the best version of me while balancing my responsibility with what I want. Peter Parker is a guy who even when his aunt may is in the hospital, has money problems, loved one died or is being told to stay out of it by a mentor figure, gets up and lives to face another day with his head held up high.

      Mohd Amerul Aidil The MCU Spiderman isn't Spiderman. Spiderman is a character all about doing the responsible thing even if it means giving up stuff that matters to him.
      I mean yeah, the Raimi movies were corny but that doesn't mean that they're bad. In Spiderman 2 Peter loses his job, his friendship with Harry, his Grades, fails on his rent and loses MJ to another man. And all the bad things that happen to him are a consequence of his double life as Spiderman. When he quits being Spiderman everything in his life improves, but he goes back to being Spiderman because he was given a gift... power and he has to use it to do the right thing.
      In all of the MCU Spiderman appearances he never had to give up anything major to go and be Spiderman. The only time he gives up anything is any chance to talk to Liz. However this barely matters to him or affects him. In the Raimi films screwing up with MJ made him so depressed he couldn't even use his powers anymore.
      On another note he's also way too dependent on Ironman. Tony makes his suit and upgrades his Web shooters? What? This was probably done just so they could make Spidey more integrated into the MCU but it makes him less unique. And the fucking boat scene in Homecoming was ruined because there was 0 consequences because Tony Ex Machina shows up and saves everyone. The best part of Homecoming is when he doesn't have the Stark Suit anymore and lifts up the rubble. But still nonetheless the MCU Spiderman faces no consequences where as comic Spiderman views his powers as a curse and even begged Fury once to take them away from him. Even the cartoons did this better, in Spectacular he almost drank a gene cleanser to be normal again but didn't because he was given a responsibility. In the MCU he doesn't view it as a curse and actually loves being Spiderman and is like "yeah I'm an Avenger Ned ain't that cool".

    Great video! :D
    If things work out as they are planned by Marvel Studios we'll get seven more Spider-Man films. So there's always the possibility that we see MCU-Spidey going in the direction of Raimi- or Comic-Spidey. Maybe the first trilogy consists of comedies and the second of dramas.
    Or maybe Sony makes another reboot, that nobody wants to see...

    I think the beginning 3 minutes of this video is something people really need to keep in mind when watching these films. In the context of this universe, Peter probably _wouldn't_ have money problems or some of the other classic "Peter Parker Problems" he's known for, because A) this isn't a comic book where outside of events, other heros don't really matter(or writers ignore them for the sake of a story) or B) It isn't a stand alone property like the Raimi trilogy where other heros don't exist.

    • @xdecatron2985
      @xdecatron2985 3 года назад

      @@robl0xgamer258 What an interesting question! I don't know that I would point to specific comics for accuracy. This isn't a cop-out, either. All three movie versions of Spidey have borrowed from different storylines and elements of the character. All of them seem to incorporate elements of the "Ultimate" reboot of the character as well as classic silver-age Spidey (60's and 70's comics). It's more in their use of the stories and incorporation of elements of the character. For instance, both the first Raimi film and the second Webb film incorporated aspects of the Death of Gwen Stacy arc from the early seventies, but went in such different directions with it that the two movies have very few similarities. As far as MCU spidey is concerned, he's still a geek, a bit of a social outcast, he's awkward, he's so busy he barely has time for the few people he calls friends and family. He's very smart, he doesn't have great luck with the ladies, he makes jokes at his enemies' expense while fighting them. All true to the character no matter what version you are talking about. But the minds behind Homecoming and Far From Home intentionally looked to things that hadn't been explored in previous movies. For instance, they intentionally took him out of Manhattan for the majority of both movies because we'd already seen him swing through the skyline of NYC in five movies. This is something that is explored in the comics sometimes but hadn't really been seen on the silver screen. They also avoided the osborn stuff so far, focusing on different villains and story arcs, making a very clever use of the Master Planner arc (I think?), a very iconic moment where Spidey is almost crushed under the weight of a building falling on him, but he summons all of his strength and survives. That came straight from the comics. Peter's relationship with Tony comes from the comics as well, though it is played up in the MCU to make some compelling drama. In the last couple decades of comics, Stark has taken an interest in Peter. He did build him an Iron Spider suit, which he used in the first comic book iteration of Civil War. MCU Spidey is a different take on the character, but few if any of the creative decisions are not in some way based on actual details and plot points from the gigantic library of Spider-Man comics. Hope that helps and isn't too long-winded.

You're not a real spider-man fan -_-" like that really hurts sometime. Others are like "You like this cgi crap? The suit looks weird!" While yes, its cgi, marvel has good reason for it, that's because like, why would they take time to manufacture a thin bendable like metal for suit? And for the actor to switch in and out of it b/w takes. That would be nightmare full. Plus, I really love the design they went with, if they went with a red and gold version from the comics, people would direct him as iron boy sidekick or something. Also with the character itself! They expect him to grow all by himself in home coming right off the bat, marvel takes time to establish Tom's spidey, and thats what I love about it, the small character development for his character is what makes mcu spiderman great in my opinion!

      patoloquend0 There’s that as well. It’s undeniable that he’s worked his butt off and has put a lot of effort into the editing and writing of his content. While I don’t have an issue with him at all, I feel like his influence in the Spider-Man fandom has also been a factor of the, somewhat, toxic nature of it.
      Before his essay of Far From Home, he made a thread on Twitter saying how the movie actively hurt him and made him sick. He has the right to say his opinions and dislike the film, like anybody, but he’s continuing to encourage a nasty attitude when talking about movies like MCU Spider-Man’s. For example, the Star Wars fandom felt allowed to get more toxic because they were surrounded by figures being like "yeah, this isn't just a bad film, this actively HURT me"
      He’s doing the same thing. And so it began with comments like “Good movie, but bad Spider-Man movie”, and so on and so forth.

    • @patoloquend0
      @patoloquend0 5 лет назад +16

      Lug-Out I agree with you about his influence on the fandom. Before his Homecoming video I can swear I only saw good comments about MCU Spidey. After that, I started to notice more and more people criticizing this iteration of Spidey, and with the same arguments HiTop presented on that video (what a coincidence). I'm not saying he's guilty of this turf war there's going on, maybe I never noticed it before because I never looked in the right places, but he has influenced people's opinion somewhat. It's easier to use another person's arguments rather than coming up with yours.

I miss when characters around Peter had more depth than just being comic relief. Ned is always fun but is being the guy in the chair and funny friend all his character has to offer? Or what will his relationship with MJ be now that she knows he's spider-man? Does Aunt May ever mourn for Ben Parker? Do they care that he's dead because of Peter's selfishness? In the middle of the video he goes on a huge rant about how he hates how the US army is portrayed as "heroic" in Skull Island and goes on about how America is the real terrorists or whatever, while blatantly ignoring that the film is blatantly making a statement on how shitty US adventurism is and that dropping bombs everywhere is bad. Kong is blatantly framed as good guy while Samuel L Jackson is pretty clearly a villain, with several characters all but stating this.

    This was a well an elaborate video you made. Spidey fans need to accept that Marvel's trying something different so what if Uncle Ben wasn't mentionined. The MCU is trying to be creative Plus far from home and homecoming had many Stakes. Why can't people just accept this version of Spider-Man I mean isn't the character opposed to bring us together

      So what if Uncle Ben was alive or dad I personally don't care to be honest

      @@Legend-io4pz No, are you fucking stupid? Spider-Man fans WILL NOT ACCEPT something THAT BARELY RESEMBLES WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO EMULATE. Peter's character is MISINTERPRETED AND BUTCHERED. It's BLASPHEMY to the SOURCE MATERIAL. You CLEARLY aren't passionate as many of us. Go read a comic and get educated PLEASE.

    Completely agree with your points. I love this interoperation of Spider-Man as it’s fits perfectly with the established universe while still being relatively true to the character. On the other hand, I do agree with many people saying that he isn’t really comic accurate, but I’m more than okay with it. I do wish the films rooted his responsibility and heroism to Uncle Ben a little better, not to say there needs to be another death scene but rather a brief conversation with Aunt May about him or him visiting his grave. Beyond that, I have little to complain about this version of Spider-Man. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is a lighthearted and entertaining character that still manages to tackle themes of self worth and accountability, and it is refreshing finally seeing someone recognize that and objectively talk about what makes this interpretation great.

    Well that was cool, I’m glad to see I’m not the only person that analyzes Ironman Spider-Man mcu films like ths ... whew! Ever since the avengers I have really enjoyed the scope that these characters & movies have put everything in. It’s more than exciting to me . I’m an artist and these books have been my inspiration artistically since I was like 12 ... I just hang on my seat for more mcu ... seems like eternities between the films for me . Great channel sir . New sub right here

    I think Peter Parkers Cultural Capital can be represented by how we solves de big ant man problem using a reference of Empire Strikes Back, that is also culture and I think it comes and goes in both movies to show the richness of the universe that is now at his disposal.
