Ant-man admires cap but it isn’t central to his character, it’s just a quirk of his personality that is briefly mentioned, while iron man was central to peter’s arc and was practically peter’s whole character. Scott respects him because he represents how real life people would interact with these heroes if they were real, he just respects him like some real life people do, while spider-man is literally an iron man Stan which isn’t good, Scott is a character who exists and evolves without cap’s influence, he exists without captain America, while all peter’s growth is directly tied to Tony stark, (before no way home) without Tony Peter is just a place holder, not a real character

I think it's worth to mention that Uncle Ben was mentioned in the MCU, just not directly. But yeah it's not much and it's the point. Ben overall in Peter's early career is like your deceased father: you live on your own after his death, try to reach your own goals, but when you're at your worst, you know the memories of him and his values will help you to rise again. It is the case for me for sure!

I feel like what makes Spider-Man work isn’t so much any fixed set of circumstances, rather it’s his placement in a given world. I consider Tom and Tobey good representations of the character because in their own way they show a crushing sense of anxiety in living up to other ppls expectations, something that we all struggle with at heart. For Tobey’s Peter it was traversing an early 2000’s post-9/11 New York. For Tom’s Peter it’s growing up in a world filled with larger than life heroes. Both are dealing with a different set of cards but equally having to climb a wall of expectations.

@@obiwankenobi1532 well from what I remember I don’t think TASM movies really do much to show Peter struggling with the weight of everyone’s expectations for him. He doesn’t really have that key theme and living up to expectations doesn’t at all seem like anything that bothered him.
The ending of the first film almost had a moment like that where Peter makes a promise to Captain Stacy and grapples with the consequence of delivering on it but the last line was basically him saying he doesn’t really care and going back on the promise anyway.
There also really isn’t any identifiable placement he has in those films. There’s nothing relatable he’s ever trying to strive towards. In the Raimi films Peter’s a young adult trying to make a life for himself, in the mcu he’s a high school kid trying to make a name for himself. In TASM movies his main dilemma is that he’s trying figure out the truth about his secret agent parents which…is just not a relatable dilemma, I’m sorry.

Like didn't he give up Gwen because her dad wanted Gwen to be safe, and being with Peter would risk her life, and he didnt want that? He went back on that promise sure, but if ur gonna tell me that he wasn't under any emotional weight from the expectation I'm not sure what to tell you. I don't like Tasm 2, but what I liked about it is that the emotional weight Peter carried always came to fuck him in the ass, thus being Spider Man can really suck.

@@juicestains52 I don’t think MCU Peter was striving for opportunities to be like his childhood heroes.
He’s rejected those opportunities more than he’s chased after them. It’s why Stark had to recruit him through blackmail in Civil War. It’s why “Fury” had to take over Peter’s Europe trip and it’s how Mysterio acquired the E.D.I.T.H. glasses with a satisfied Peter walking away.
His involvement in Infinity War and Endgame was just because he wanted to protect his home. Aliens did invade NYC in 2012 so I think I understand why he did what he did.
Peter was definitely motivated by the opportunity to be like an Avenger in Homecoming but I think it’s exclusive to that movie.

Peter becoming the next Iron Man is sorta present in a symbolic sense. When you think about it, the face of Marvel comics is Spider-man, he's the most iconic character out of everyone else. When you look at the MCU, Tony Stark was the face of this movie franchise seeing as he was the one who started it all. And it's perfect, because Peter is one of the only characters who actually grows and get old in the comics. I have a strong feeling that No Way Home will end with Peter following through with the initial spell and make the entire world forget he's Spider-man (including MJ, Ned, Aunt May, the Avengers, etc).
He will in a sense be going "back to basics" with the usual setup of Spider-man being a solo hero with a secret identity. A big theme that seems to be present is trying to have everything you want. Peter is trying to have this double life but retain the stable aspects of where it converges with his normal life. Homecoming had him learn humility after trying too hard to match up to the big leagues, Far From Home had him learn to trust himself after believing he wasn't good enough to even be Spider-man, and No Way Home could be about learning sacrifice after Peter keeps pushing to have everything work out for everyone (Secret identity but not needing to keep the truth from his loved ones, stopping the villains but still trying to save their lives).
I believe NWH is going to capture Aunt May's lesson in Spider-man 2, "Sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the things we want the most, even our dreams". But this would actually follow that lesson better than Spider-man 2 (not throwing hate), because Peter would be giving up the things he wants most, instead of trying to give them up only to still get everything he wanted in the end.
If you think about it, it would be a bit of a blend of when he did a similar thing in the comics (making the entire world forget he was Spider-man, including his trusted friends who knew his identity) with a hint of One More Day, where he is actively giving up his relationship with MJ as part of a deal with Mephisto. I'm guessing that When Tobey and Andrew come in, Andrew is going to save MJ from the fall, and this will leave MCU Peter hit with the weight that he couldn't have saved her, she was in danger because of him, everything that happens in the movie is because of him, so he needs to make that sacrifice for the sake of everyone in his life. The difference is that he will remember everything, and he will be back to his roots in more dangerous world with darker tones, but he will have an understanding through his experiences on how to be better. (Such as, making sure his door's closed when he changes into his costume)
    Just something I've thought about

The CGI suits are seriously my only gripe with MCU Spider-Man. They all look so great (minus the stealth suit and the iron spider). I’m really glad that the former won’t make another appearance and that the latter will be most likely destroyed. It seems as if Peter combines the upgraded suit and the iron spider in No Way Home to form the integrated suit and due his resources most likely being limited in this one, he’ll be making this suit by hand and getting them dirty which I’m really excited for. Not to mention I’m positive the new suit + the Red and Black suit is practical in NWH so for that, I’m stoked.

@@thatoneguy8053 i think that one way to take in web of possibilities. Even so, Raimi movies already did that very well and Kevin Feige was there to see. But thats not the only, and this exacly the point of Leo's video. Despite Raimi movies being iconic, the framing he choosed is not the totality of Spiderman range. There was moments, specialy at in first years where Spiderman had a sitcon vibe. Spiderman is also one of the few superheroes where the love history is actually one of his main plots, as we already saw in Raimi, Webb and Watts movies. Sure we love the drama, but theres more in this character tham just de drama and i think Homecoming Series blends it very good. I'm a fan of Spider man, just like Leo. And i think the best way possible to take this character would be a soap opera. Because Peter Parker's life is a soap opera. There's to much layers do show that a 2 hour long movie can't do. And thats way the previous iterations hit specific points. Raimi movies focus on the contrast of his opressive poverty and his heroism and how it afects his personal life and drags him down, picturing life as spiderman as a burden. Webb movies focus on Peter reconciliation with himself and his relationship with Gwen Stacy, wich i think the death is way mor impactful for Peter than Uncle Ben, actually. Watts movies is about Peter learning what is to be a superhero in a world where the exemples are to big and his personal expectations are to high. He is poor, and he's whole life has changed because he is spiderman and is afraid to loose everything spider man gave to him. And in the urge to get the things done without the experience, e fuck things out and need to fix latter. As a spider man fan, i'm happy that i can see diferent iterations and takes on the character ans i can se the resemblance of diferent aspects of the comics in every iteration. Spiderman can be epic, dramatic, a sitcom, a romcom... just depends wich aspect you will highlight in your iterations. I like the rom com aspect of spider, my favorite spiderMan comic ever is Blue, and thats why i love Mac Webb movies, even the second one being a mess. I like the drama aspects of spiderman and i relate to his poverty, as a guy that never had money to buy comics and only read spider man by alternative means and thats why i love Rami movies. Also, I can't be the only person that prefers the more comic-accurate versions of Miles and his family over Graffiti Artist Miles, Cool Uncle Aaron, Nice Cop Dad, and Politician Mom, right? Even if it's a more idealistic narrative, it's still more cynical storytelling. Narrative and storytelling are two very different things. The prevalence of those characterizations in adaptations make those in charge of adapting Miles and his supporting cast look too scared, or just too myopic, to depict characters of color in their stories with major character flaws and the ability to be seriously wrong about certain things that happen in those plots.

What’s interesting about the argument of this video with following the first thirty odd issues of amazing Spider-Man is that if you look at the villains they choose to use, they seem to have specifically chosen the best or most well known villains from that run who hadn’t already been used in the movies before. Vulture and Mysterio both appeared during Peter’s high school years and all the villains that showed up before, between, and after them were mostly the ones we had already seen, the only exceptions being villains who aren’t as well known like the chameleon, the enforcers , etc. This lends even more credence to the idea that they are intentionally trying to stay as accurate to that era as possible! It doesn’t seem likely to me but I would really like to see them make at least two more trilogies for the MCU Spider-Man. We had high school, next we can three films in college, and then another three post college. I think it could become an outstandingly great live action run if done that way. But unfortunately I don’t think Sony and Disney will be able to keep getting along for that long. We were lucky to even get No Way Home.

Andrew pulls mostly from the Ultimate comics, and intertwines it with more obscure stories about Peter’s parents. Tom brings a mixture of early Lee/Ditko and some aspects of Miles Morales.

This, the truth is that these are good arguments for all those who complain about the MCU Spiderman, I mean ... it is an adaptation that does not have to be the same as the comics or Tobey Maguire, which tries to be different in my opinion, although if you Allow me to add something else to this is that it is likely that in No Way Home we will see the "consequences" that everyone wants Peter to have, since according to leaks important characters are going to die so he may mature with this (remember that he has suffered consequences but clearly they have not been as hard as the death of someone close to him, except it is not Uncle Ben of course that his death made him become a superhero, so if Aunt May dies that will make him mature which will change his tone in the next trilogy). Although really the "childish mistakes" that I comment would say that Marvel does it on purpose since they want Peter to have brutal changes in the following trilogies so that is why we always see him that way in all the movies. Another thing is that what Peter gave Edith to Mysterio I see well, because Peter cannot fulfill the expectations of being the future great hero of the earth, something that Mysterio could be in Peter's judgment, so that's why He gives Edith because he knew that Mysterio could be the new great hero, that in the end of course he was deceived but I don't see it as a silly mistake.

Sony on the other hand gets it right about 1/10 with Spiderverse being a rare exception (which they got cocky about and now they think they have it in them, THEY DON'T). Sony needs to back off and let marvel steer this character in whatever direction they need to. Sony has their shitty character like moribus and venom and they keep trying to cram them in. The other thing people really, really need to understand is that the avengers films actively undid Homecoming and that’s on the Russos and Feige, not on Jon Watts who’s made the solo films. The avengers films stripped away his agency, pushed him into the Iron Spider suit, used him mainly as comic relief, Gen z pop culture reference guy and Tony’s surrogate son rather than as Spider-Man with his own story, had him not give a shit about his secret identity, and not think about Aunt May even once thereby wasting the cliffhanger-just off the top of my head. Far From Home had to both deal with separating Peter from Tony AGAIN and ALSO dealing with the aftermath of Endgame and Tony’s sacrifice. None of that was on Jon Watts or the writers of the solo films, they did everything they could to tell great Peter Parker stories about him growing into Spider-Man.
Completely unrelated, why did you say he’s only signed on for two movies?

    • @the1theonlyg248
      @the1theonlyg248 2 года назад +4

It’s more complex than that. Infinity War pushed the Iron Spider onto Tom and made him an Avenger, which may seem like regression from Homecoming, but not in the traditional sense. Homecoming was about Spidey yearning for something more, and by the end gaining an appreciation for his friendly neighborhood duties because Vulture directly affected the little guy. He understood his worth, and rejected the Iron Spider and Avengers for being a smaller hero. In Infinity War, he only gets the Iron Spider because he’s about to die, and the only reason he hitches a ride into space with Tony and Strange is because “you can’t be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there’s no neighborhood”. If something happens at a cosmic scale, it’ll affect the little guy he stands up for first, which then leads to him becoming an Avenger. Circumstances changed, not his development; it’s regression with a purpose.
