When I see MCU Peter, I don't see Peter, I see Tom Holland dressed as Spider-Man. He doesn't feel like a nerd nor a loner skater boy. He feels like a male super model acting. He doesn't feel naturally awkward.

The funny thing about Uncle Ben is that they didn't have to show the death scene at all to drive in how important he was to Peter.
During his first conversation with Tony Stark, he very well could've offhandedly say that his uncle had told him those words before he died, and he also could've been mentioned in the other movies by Peter or May herself as well.
But no. All we get is a suitcase that has Ben's name on it that gets destroyed.

    • @Ben-uv1sy
      @Ben-uv1sy 9 месяцев назад

Your mad at the fact that they made a reference to uncle Ben. MCU peter doesn't't have an uncle Ben so that suitcase didn't really matter to him. It was meant to be just a reference. Nothing that would have an impact on the story

Believe man I get it. I know exactly where you're coming from. When I first heard that Spider-Man was going to be joining the Avengers. I thought Tobey Maguire was reprising his role as Spider-Man. I thought I was going to see an older, wiser, more mature version of the character. Because the first Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire, was my introduction into marvel comics. The only comic book heroes I was into was Superman and Batman. That was because of Christopher Reeve's Superman and the 1989 Batman movie. I watched when I was a kid, there was also Batman the Animated Series in the early 90s. Then the Spider-Man movie comes out when I was in junior high. It blew my mind, suddenly Spider-Man is my number one favorite marvel hero. I wanted to know more, so I started reading the comics, even the old ones. Then I learned about other marvel characters like Wolverine, Daredevil, Iron Man, Captain America and so on. The X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four. Anyways, so there I was expecting to see Tobey Maguire back in the Spider-Man suit. I thought he'd be a little older than he was in the third movie, maybe married to Mary Jane, I thought maybe Peter Parker was going to working at Tony's company. Which makes sense, because that's how it happens in the comics. Imagine my reaction to the odd looking suit, and this little kid's voice. Coming from a character who's supposed to be a full grown man.

Andrew Garfield was always prepared and had a plan which is the total opposite of the comics where spider man never had a plan and just went with the wind (the superior spider man comics literally addressing this issue Peter has and uses doc ock to point out how much better he is at being spider man than Peter simply bc he has planned everything out)
Tobey Maguires Peter was stiff, barely made any fucking jokes and mindlessly repeats “I’ll stop you [insert villain name]” proceeding to fight the villain with no character or personality and just act like a generic weekly Saturday cartoon hero fighting the weekly Saturday cartoon villain where there’s some cheesy extremely ridiculous stakes and some bad dialogue. Even the 60’s comics weren’t like that (look at the amazing spider man annual I think #5 where he fights red skull as he tries to track down his parents murderer)
Tom Holland behaves exactly as he always has, exactly as he has in the comics and never once does anything against what the movie has set us up to expect. The criticism from these comments and the video are just disingenuous

Uhm what? No it makes sense and is exactly how spider man acts in the comics. Look at black cat, spider man falls for all her tricks no matter how obvious they are and it’s been like that for decades. Look at the old 60’s spider man. He’ll run into really bad situations and even saying himself, he hopes it goes well. It’s been a fact in the comics that he NEVER thinks things through or has a plan. Look at superior spider man, the entire reason doc ock was superior to Peter as spider man was because doc ock planned everything through and used his IQ to create a network systems of robots that travelled across the city scanning facial records to track potential criminals and monitor their behaviour, doc ock tells Peter that for years he’s never actually had any coherent goal or plan. He just swings around hoping to find crime and then will deal with it when he deals with it. Look at secret wars, spider man acts like a complete fool in all his comics and makes it out bc of his spidey sense.
Sure there was a comic where captain America trains him so he doesn’t have to rely on spidey sense when he loses it, but nothing really happens bc of it and he continues to act the same.
Spider man has ALWAYS acted like an idiot. To say he shouldn’t act like that proves a total misunderstanding of who spider man is.

You validated every single reason as to why I'm disappointed with Tom Holland's Spider-Man (both the character & films)... *including* some points I never even considered, which really made me think. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't care when May died either. Also, I hated how they turned her into a floozy: I was appalled at her and Happy's implied "casual" relationship. That was really inappropriate for her, but simultaneously a purposeful writing choice, to make May more modern and sxx-positive. And we all know what movement that caters to.
As for other characters. Ned is a bumbling idiot, with no character arc, and he still talks and behaves like a 12 year old. Yet he's on his way to college. It's weird. His constant habit of needing to be shut down by other characters, makes him unnecessarily pathetic for no reason. And there are times where I noticed that he and Peter do not have an equal amount of respect for one another.
MJ is (puzzlingly) a dry, snarky, and oddly tomboyish, depiction of "Mary Jane." She bares no resemblance to the OG Mary Jane at all. The snark--I'm just over MCU females being snarky! I don't understand the obsession with Zendaya either. Irrelevant, but it needed to be said.
So, let me get this straight: There's no traditional Peter Parker (no emotional Peter stuff, none of Spidey's cocky edge, and no brilliantly choreographed swinging/fighting scenes), no Uncle Ben, no Aunt May (unrecognisable,) no No Spider-bite, no Harry Osborne, No Mary Jane (unrecognisable) and no Flash Thomson (unrecognisable). So... you're right... _ARE_ these movies actually Spider-Man movies, if it's missing THIS many components that make a Spider-Man story a Spider-Man story? Even the Sinister Six was more like the sinister 2 and a half (Gobby and Doc-Ock). The other members were either mostly docile to Peter, or just weren't present. It's like the writers just wanna avoid making a fully authentic Spider-Man story. And tbh... I think it's three strikes for me too. This is not Spider-man.
Great video, man! It's getting repeat watches, as it was very thought provoking.

The MCU's Michelle Jones isn't Mary Jane Watson, she's a different character created for the MCU, which both Feige and the actress made abundantly clear when she was introduced. And in general, no... we don't expect accurate portrayals of the comic book characters, because the MCU isn't depicting the mainstream comic book universe, it's a different reality with different history, different characters, different lore. Yes Ned is a hybrid character mostly based upon Ganke Lee. But the MCU was a hybrid universe ever since Phase 1.
Yeah, Flash Thompson is a major disappointment and he's depicted as more of a cyber bully instead of a jock. Just bad casting, imo.

@@neospock5034 Just because the MCU does things differently on purpose, that doesn't mean it's executed well. And no, I don't expect 1:1 portrayals from the comics, because the comics are an entirely different medium from the films. However, I do (and will continue to) expect a *reasonable* amount of consistency from the source material.
You said it yourself, Michelle Jones was created for the MCU, meaning she's an original character, who replaces a legacy character. And besides being called "MJ" and being Spider-Man's girlfriend, she has nothing in common with "Mary Jane" at all. This means Spidey's girlfriend in the MCU is unrecognisable, thus poorly adapted, making the legacy character they're based on, not present... just like Flash, May and Uncle Ben.
Like I said: Michelle Jones replacing Mary Jane, Aunt May being a floosie, Ned being a bumbling idiot with no growth over 3 movies, not showing the spider-bite, not including/barely referencing Uncle Ben...and most of the Sinister Six being, well... not "sinister" is too much. Too many characters and story elements are unrecognisable or straight up not present. That's a big problem. And I will not forgive poor adaptations of this many legacy characters and storylines, sorry. Not budging.
I repeat: Just because the MCU does things differently on purpose, that doesn't mean it's executed well.
That said, you have a good day, dude.

@@AwedecaiMusic that's the thing. I view the MCU as intentionally divergent from 616 lore and history rather than being a poor adaptation. We can't knock it for mssing the mark on comic book accuracy when that was never what it was aiming for. We CAN knock it for logical inconsistency and characterizations that don't work well.
I agree that simply being intentionally different doesn't mean everything was well executed- it wasn't. There are some problems and you've pointed out a few. The absence of Uncle Ben is a huge problem I agree. And the reaction of every male in the movie to Aunt May is laughably two dimensional. However I think the interactions between Peter and most of his classmates (other than Flash) work better than in the Raimi films. In general I think the Raimi films have a suspension of disbelief problem for the lead actors in their roles- they just can't pass for high school kids while the MCU actors can.
However we have to keep in mind the MCU was always a different take like Earth 1610 and Earth-X. It's a universe where Ultron was created by Stark and Banner instead of Pym, where Spider-Man wasn't one of the first heroes to appear but a kid who grew up idolizing the Avengers, where Cap, Widow and Hawkeye are original Avengers but Ant-Man and the Wasp aren't, where Iron' Man's identity was never a secret and Pepper Potts was never in love with Happy Hogan, where Thor is only 1500 years old and Asgardians have lifespans of 5000 years, Where Carol Danvers is the first earthling to adopt the name Captain Marvel instead of the seventh etc.
You make some good points, I just think we have to evaluate the MCU movies in the context of an alternate universe.

The 2 biggest missed opportunities in this movie are
    1. Mysterio’s plot was never resolved. We don’t even know if he’s really dead or not (considering he’s a master of illusion, it’s highly possible that he faked his death) and all of his crew are still out there. But somehow, Peter, Stark Industries and Strange did nothing to put all of these guys in jail.
    2. Speaking of jail, remember Michael Mando’s character of Scorpion in Homecoming? He asked Vulture about Spider-Man true identity to exact vengeance and what did he do when the identity was finally revealed as Peter Parker? Nothing. Scorpion did nothing with this precious information. If he’s the one who killed Aunt May, the plot would have been more coherent as a story of MCU Peter but nope, they had to throw all the set up with the Scorpion out to pave the way for the nostalgia villain like Green Goblin to do the job instead.
And like you said, Peter was written to be too dumb in this movie even though he should have learned his lesson after being hit with a Shinkansen.

Iron Man 2 - the amazing character development that he had in his first movie is completely gone and he regresses to his self-absorbed douchebag behavior that we saw in the first movie and for a majority of the film he is an unlikeable douchebag
Marvel's The Avengers - continues to act out of character in the entire movie not taking the situation involving Loki seriously and acting like an immature douchebag (starting to see a pattern)
Iron Man 3 - the worst of the Iron Man films but it actually matures Tony's character
Avengers Age of Ultron - Tony made a big mistake creating Ultron and wants to take responsibility for it and the repercussions from this are felt throughout the rest of the Marvel Universe

Iron Man 2: Tony learns that he shouldn’t care about his ego & loneliness and remembers what matters most, being a part of a team.
Marvel’s The Avengers: Tony becomes a changed man after dealing with aliens and a Norse God.
Iron Man 3: he learns to make sacrifices as well as overcoming his fear.
To me, Iron Man’s arc ended with Iron Man 3, while everything else he was either just there for fan service, or there because he was part of the Avengers. Age of Ultron wouldn’t be different if Hank Pym created Ultron and not Tony Stark, and he was only in Civil War because he played a huge part in the Civil War Storylines by Mark Miller. Half of the worlds population shouldn’t have any homes or money because those things would’ve been taken by the banks for multiple reasons.
Another thing is it’s very lucky that everyone that Spider-Man is close to was snap with him. Why is that lucky and a contrivance? The storytellers would actually have to make some real drama given that anything could’ve happen to the people who didn’t get snapped. Wait a minute what am I thinking? If Spider-Man’s friend got snap and there was actual drama that would’ve happened off screen seeing as the MCU just loves to avoid things like that.

Heck in the past couple years we've been living here on Earth things have changed quite a bit so you can't only imagine the after Snap. I agree that the storywriters miss out on some major opportunities by having not only Peter Paker himself but everyone he knows get conveniently Snapped away as well. Like Aunt May could have still been alive and now suffering with debt, Flash Thompson could have joined the army and later become Agent Venom, Norman Osborn could have been introduced as a way to get people back to normalcy while doing shady things on the side but nope. You know this guys opinions are based because of the persona 5 music in the background. On the real I just never saw Tom as Peter. His face, his personality just felt so off. Don't know if it's bias towards tobeys movies but even andrew got his spiderman down with the terrible material he was working with. Tom did what he could but I just want someone else to get a chance at live action peter because he doesn't work imo. Although his voice is pretty innocent and fits spiderman, I think it's just that he was carried by Tony and his suits. Only until the last scene of the 3rd movie does he come into his own. The other Peters lost so much and had to overcome because of their responsibility, this peter either fucks things up more or wants more recognition. But his character never felt consistent, he wants to help but then doesn't want to help then completely fucks up multiple timelines in his 3rd movie. I get it he's a teen, he's naive but peter is supposed to be pretty smart not downright dumb as fuck and literally always giving away his secret identity. Just a pretty washed down, bland written peter when raimi had done it so much better even with the beginning of superhero films and cheesy dialogue. These films have less tension and suspense than gobby vs tobey at the end of spiderman 1. Way too many jokes that completely muddles the tone, jokes are fine. Spiderman is known for his quips but c,mon. Tom never said anything funny and it was just a bunch of side characters shuffling absolute trash writing down your throats in service of a laugh. That's a bigger problem of the MCU as a whole though.

It’s as if he does it simply cause he thinks it’s beneficial when he is being irresponsible with his responsibilities
As being an avenger is fine but moving away abandon his life and responsibilities as peter isn’t all that selfless as it is selfish he is using his powers to get ahead in life not because it’s the right thing to do
Because if it was about doing the right thing he wouldn’t even think about such things
Literally his lesson in that film is peter is being Spider-Man for selfish reasons and only by the end does he learnt I be Spider-Man for selfless reasons

Toby Maguire was always my favourite. I think he had the best balance between the charismatic and snarky Spiderman and the nerdy, introverted Peter.
Andrew Garfield is a great actor and I think his career beyond Spiderman will be more remembered than his Spiderman, but he was too charismatic to me. He almost eclipsed Tom Holland on screen. I didn't buy him as an awkward nerdy kid. His Peter Parker should have been popular not a victim of bullying.
I actually like Tom Holland's Spiderman and Peter. He also has a good balance between Peter and Spiderman but Toby did it better. I actually think he's a little too awkward sometimes but I chalk that up to "quirky" Marvel writing more than anything.
Again the best Aunt May was the first. She needs to be a sweet old lady, not a spunky mom. I can see why they didn't do Uncle Ben again but I thought it was implied that that had already happened. But No Way Home implies that he never learned the lesson about Responsibility.
This MJ was a little too 'cool' for my liking. She just flat out knows he's Spiderman and she figured it out no problem. I didn't buy their relationship because it felt too rushed. They didn't get to know each other enough. It took three Spiderman movies for Toby and his MJ to start having a decently functional relationship. I don't think this MJ is bad nor do I necessarily care about race-swapping as long as the character and actor are still good (see black Harvey Dent) but I think it's funny, as others have pointed out, that it's always the redhead that's swapped for a black person.
I think they took criticisms of MJ being too much of a damsel in distress without personality too seriously (see Doug Walker) and so they do what Hollywood always does and turned her into a spunky, no f*cks given, sassy, single cocked eyebrow "strong independent woman". I thought MJ was independent and had personality already but because she usually becomes the person that Spiderman has to rescue, people treat her as just another Princess Peach and overlook her character.
In No Way Home though, (I've only seen it once so maybe I'm missing something), as you mentioned, Spiderman's supporting cast feel more like characters than real people. MJ and Ned seem to be there because it happens to be a Spiderman movie rather than being there because they had something important to do. Even if you think it's lazy, at least MJ needing to be rescued gives her a reason to be there. Harry chasing Spiderman to get his revenge gives him a reason to be wherever Spiderman happens to be because he's chasing him. Tom Holland's cast just happen to be in the way.
But the biggest betrayal of all was what they did to J Jonah. Jameson. They cast the same person to do him again because he's the best but they gave him a completely different character to play. The first JJJ was an old fashioned businessman who always came off as gruff and cared about money more than anything. Yet he still carried a lot of power because a lot of people read his newspaper and he was well respected.
This JJJ comes off as an amateur news reporter ranting in his dingy basement. A clever writer could have made this a commentary about the state of modern journalism but instead they made him into an Alex Jones knockoff, complete with the same suit and the podcast style videos. This felt more like a cheap shot taken at Alex Jones because he spreads 'fake news' but whoever wrote this either doesn't understand the appeal of Alex Jones or just doesn't care. I've always found JJJ likeable despite his biased reporting because his character is so over the top and ultimately harmless even if he turns public opinion against Spiderman. But the most nefarious thing about him is despite his single sided reporting, his reputation and the fact that he controls a major newspaper, a mainstream news source, makes his misinformation all the more dangerous.
Alex Jones is not mainstream news. He may have a huge pull, but it still pales in comparison to the huge pull that MSM has. I'm sure some people will say this change was made because kids today know who Alex Jones is but these kids have never seen a newspaper, but kids still know what cable news and Fox and CNN and MSNBC so they still who the "respectable" news sources are. Alex Jones is popular mostly because people know he's insane and many people think he's just a grifter/troll who doesn't actually believe half the things he's saying. Sure there's some people who actually believe all of the conspiracies he's spouting, but he's largely a joke. A funny joke for that matter. He doesn't have a reputation so this JJJ doesn't have a reputation so why are people following him? Why does he have his face on the big screen at Times Square? If this JJJ reported that Spiderman was actually Peter Parker, the MSM would have largely ignored it and it would have just been a conspiracy theory that most people would ignore. If anything, SHIELD should be able to go on a misinformation campaign to mislead people into thinking it's false. If Alex Jones has any reputation it's that of a broken clock: mostly useless but occasionally right. I mean for crying out loud, this JJJ is shown filming in his basement, he's not running a major business so how and why would he hire Peter Parker as a photographer? He's not running a major newspaper, he's running a podcast. Maybe he'll hire Peter as a video editor? Probably not. If you want to keep JJJ in the Spiderman mythos as the threat that he is then you have to make him into a respectable villain with connections like the Kingpin. Give him a suit and a reputation so that his evil is more nefarious. Don't make him into a loser than people listen to for no reason. This was the biggest butchering of the Spiderman mythos for me.

Tobey Maguire was the worst spider man factually. His charisma was as stiff as a wooden pole and his snark felt dry and flimsy. His Peter was poorly acted and his lines were robotic. He wasn’t a very good spider man. He had fun action scenes and the green goblin was great but that’s it. They weren’t very good movies. People only like them bc of massive nostalgia.

Dude have you not read the comics? Original JJJ had a super small filming studio set up in his apart where he aggressively ranted about how much of a violent psychopath spider man is. • @comealsolito804
      @comealsolito804 2 года назад +4

@@zzodysseuszz please, "people only like them bc of nostalgia".. Spiderman 2 is better than 99% of these MCU movies, and almost every super-hero movie exists because of Sam Raimi's format. I couldn't care less about something not being perfectly "faithful to the comics" if you got a great Spiderman story and the lore of the characters on point. Yeah now you got Tom Holland shooting web like the comics, but then you got an abhorrent Aunt May and a useless diverse MJ, and you have to have Tony Stark as a starring character cause this Spiderman can't even hold the movie by his own. Raimi's trilogy are not just good superhero movies, majority of people didn't even fucking knew about comics at the time but still the movies were UNIVERSALLY praised, cause Raimi cared about the plot and every character involved. Spiderman wasn't something to make guaranteed money, if now all these (weak) Spider-man movies are assured box office successes, I guess you have to thank Raimi's trilogy who morphed this not so much popular superhero character into an icon. Stan Lee (the fucking creator) was amazed by Raimi's trilogy and Tobey's performance, but I guess you know more than him. Want to talk about nostalgia? If one of these new Tom Holland Spiderman movies came out in 2002, before Spiderman and Marvel became so popular, dude, you wouldn't even have got the Spiderman mania, or at least not to such extent.
