I clicked like before hitting play. Been waiting for this. This tank is the reason I have a reef tank. Definitely want to see more videos of the maintainence and changes you make to this tank. Thanks for getting me into the hobby.
Thanks for continuing to update us on this tank. It's great information for beginners and for understanding that there's more than one way to make it work. Life is resilient and finds a way. ☯️
One of my favorite series you have done along with the mangrove tank. I love how you keep it real about the hair algae and aptasia. I vote for the chaos.
It was this series that i tried to emulate a little over a month ago when I put together my first saltwater tank. Thanks for the update; looks great and excited to see how it progresses.
I think the GSP is the most striking feature in that awesome little tank. The green line from the base to the apex was a fantastic aesthetic choice. I don't know how you kept it so well contained though, but it is striking.
You’ve inspired me to get this as my new hoppy. Novice diver and love the environment! Live in Nanaimo BC 🇨🇦 and will be visiting some shops around here to get started. Thx for your videos! If you ever wanna come here for diving let me know and I can hook you up. Some of the best diving in the world, it’s said. Lol Did you put the crabs in you said you were going too? And what “grazer” would you use for the algae?
How did the corals have enough nutrients if there was no dosing or water changes? I'm new to the hobby, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't alk, ca, and mag drop to lower than ideal levels over the course of a year? Beautiful tank btw
Hi Zach, to answer your question if I understand correctly... Yes, Corals use up Alk, Cal, and Mag and in most reef tanks you will need to replenish these often, be it in water changes or. with dosing. The reason Jake has gotten away with doing no water changes (and therefore not replenishing the elements) Is because of his choice of corals. Most of the corals he has selected use little to no Alk,Cal,Mag and therefore his parameters won't have dropped much. The biggest consumer of those elements in this tank is probably the purple coralline algae, which there doesn't seem to be a lot of either. If Jake had chosen more demanding corals that use the elements to build their coral skeleton and therefore grow, he wouldn't have gotten this far without having done a water change.
He tells a good story LoL 🤣 If you have a glass box, fill it with water, add critters etc. You will have algae, you will have so-called unwanted critters etc. Nutrient swings will occur. Alk will swing up and down etc. The Kenya tree will release toxins in the water. The list goes on.
A DC controllable Jebao DCS2000 will fit in the rear chamber if you cut off the inlet nozzle with a hacksaw. Attach a RFG nozzle on the outlet in the tank and you have a fantastic controllable flow - I ran this setup on my Nano Max and highly recommend.
Thank you Jake for the update! Was totally waiting for this one as your "one day" build was the one that got me started in the hobby. Just curious, with such a low alkalinity and no dosing, what is the pH in the tank? Thank you!
Looks fantastic thanks for the update and answering some of my questions earlier in the week, my rs max nano is up and running now i have placed the corals and i going to get my clowns soon, as i still edgy about putting them in so fast. But your videos which i have watched a thousand times are great. Just needed to be a little more clarifying hence the messages. Everything on day 5 seems good ph is 8 ammonia up to 0.25ppm nitrite is 0 and nitrate is 10ppm. Corals all happy have got lighting at 50% at moment, and some go in at night some stay out. Hope i have a good turn out like you have.
Jebao DCS-2000 will need a little touch of DIY like a shim so it doesn’t suck itself to the glass, but give that a shot! Programmable, and paired with a good return head would still eliminate a power head!
I'd add some bright orange ricordea Yuma & Florida, some red/orange zoas/palys, and something as easy as a red war coral/favites to add some colors. The red goni sounds great, but I had a small ORA red goni frag grow very fast and would've been too big for that setup in less than a year (it went from the ORA frag size to a softball - while closed - to just smaller then a volleyball fully open in less than 2 years).
One thing should mentioned, Jake doesn’t use RO water, and only uses carbon block filtering. Which is where some of his alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium could be coming from.
Great set of videos on the Nano, making me want to get into reefing. Can I ask where you got the glass top, is that a Red Sea item or custom made from somewhere?
I've got a pair of clowns with a blue yellow tailed damsel. Ironically the clowns are more aggressive than the damsel, but after a couple of weeks they've settled in.
The reason the salinity goes up with only fresh water added is because the salt water doesnt evaporate only the fresh water diminishes with evap over time!
Remove half the GSP and do Zoas and mushrooms. Also, a long tentacle toadstool instead of the other two types of leathers. Just my two cents. Love the tank and the series. Would like to see more on the filtration you are using in the back of the tank.
NPS is probably the most challenging kind of reef tank possible. Unless you just wanna keep Tubastrea and Dendrophyllia, or do weekly 100% water changes, this is an area that I am still experimenting with.
RIP man. Been watching your content for some time

I would personally love to see you go all out on this tank! This tank was my foray into reefing btw! Big fan!
Finally 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I been asking and he delivered 🥳🥳🥳😍
too funny Evan chilling out on the couch in the background

Exactly what I would like, stress free Reef that you can upgrade and maintain when time is available.
In the next update can you go through the rear sump please and give us your opinion on all the stock equipment. Cheers pal and great work 👍
I love your Nano Reef series please do it more frequently. :)
Mr.Adams with another flawless Tank/video !

all about balance of fish to balance the nitrates imo but I am pretty newb
You dose the tank with the key elements in the salt everytime you do water changes.

Small tank you don’t have to dose it just do your water changes

Great a video of one of your great aquariums !!

Love your nano 👍👍👍 if you don’t mind me asking what kind of light do you use ? Does it have a timer ? Can you a timer ? Thanks

What are your light settings on the 50????
love the tank. thats why i like your channel. allways informative
Love this tank keep up the updates! Would love to set one up like it.
Nice and clean reef tank 👍🏻
finally the update i was waiting for!!love this tank
It shows to go ya, so many ways to approach this pursuit!
It does show to go ya 😂
Your tank is inspiring just what I needed to see
Great looking nano
Where do I get a top cover like you have??
Can you post you light schedule and parameters!!!thanks
One thing should mentioned, Jake doesn’t use RO water, and only uses carbon block filtering. Which is where some of his alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium could be coming from.
for sure SOME of the mineral replenishment is from top off water but I don't think 2-3 liters a month could reconstitute it that much.
Great set of videos on the Nano, making me want to get into reefing. Can I ask where you got the glass top, is that a Red Sea item or custom made from somewhere?
We’re did the Duncan coral go? Too high placement
just stunning. truly beautiful!
Magnifique aquarium, très belle vidéo. Je vous écris en Français, je sais que vous le parlez. 😃👍
Any mechanical filtration? Filter floss?
Your series helped me setup my nano max. What's your lighting program and settings?
sweet nano tank! thinking about setting one up 🤭

C'est assez difficile a expliquer en Englais, en encore plus en Français, mais peut être je peu trouver un angle pour simplifier le sujet.
Hi
What is the name of green plant in your aquarium
Doing well. Something like a red goni or something orangey would be great to balance out the green.
Whats your view on using natral sea water in a tank as im planning to use it on my nano in the new year i have a good surply of quality water
This is so inspiring. Thanks!
Rest in Peace, Jake Adams...
what the purple/green coral in the middle of the gsp to the left? and bottom of gsp on left?
Green star polyps growing out of control with a bunch of nepthea as the trees would be a cool nano concept.
TEAM SCOLY TANK UPDATE!!! 🤣 Also, how's this tank not have a weeping willow?
How much gallon aquarium is it?
What are you running in the back?
Does anyone have a link to the original build of this tank? Thanks
wanting to purchase this tank but worried about the lack of lid, anyone know where they got the glass lid?
Looks very nice.
If you were to do it again; would you change anything in the initial setup?
And do you think you could duplicate it?
Nice setup 👍, do you clean your sand ? If yes, do you vacuum it? And how often?
Are you aware that's the prettiest tank in your studio?
Whats that green grass like coral
Add the Red Goniopora, it would have a great wavy motion in that tank
The red with the greens would look awesome!
How do you add everything in 1 day without cycling?
I've got a pair of clowns with a blue yellow tailed damsel. Ironically the clowns are more aggressive than the damsel, but after a couple of weeks they've settled in.
what kind of par where you achieving at the water surface?
Try put an orange diji or a forest fire acropora, I think they will work well in the tank 👍🏻
Nature made those clownfish so beautiful in the first. I'm so sorry for your taste.
I love you're videos, tank and knowledge otherwise 🙌🙌😃
How do you keep the water clear?
The chemistry readings were done after the two water changes? Is that correct?
Yeah but that was 4 months ago and they were in the same range, low alk, normal on everything else
@@ReefBuildersVideo I like to see the results from this tank, it's a good experiment!
Did you run your skimmer?
Looks amazing
What’s the small controllable pump that’s coming out? :)
soon
The reason the salinity goes up with only fresh water added is because the salt water doesnt evaporate only the fresh water diminishes with evap over time!
Dkh of 5.7? I’m really surprised corals can live in that
What about the smallest Dalua return pump?
Was real liverock used in this system? Thanks
What sorcery is this!!!! 😱
What about the IM MightyJet for a small DC return?
I'm waiting for a programmable DC pump
Remove half the GSP and do Zoas and mushrooms. Also, a long tentacle toadstool instead of the other two types of leathers. Just my two cents. Love the tank and the series. Would like to see more on the filtration you are using in the back of the tank.
Update the nano!
Nice update
Damn time flies 😅
What filtration and media is running in this tank?
not much other than the wide mesh nylon filter sock the tank came with, and the skimmer which is set to aerate more than to skim
music?
Is it possible to make a self sufficient NPS tank?
NPS is probably the most challenging kind of reef tank possible. Unless you just wanna keep Tubastrea and Dendrophyllia, or do weekly 100% water changes, this is an area that I am still experimenting with.
What ever happened to the Pseudochromis fish you had the yellow and purple single fish with the Euphyllia coral nano you had from the beginning
She lived a long time but I noticed she hasn't been seen in a few months, so i think she's in fish heaven now
That sucks . She was a cool fish that’s for sure
Yellow or orange hammer coral
JF Jack-O-Lantern lepto or Forest Fire Digi.
Could anyine please spill the corals name? Im newbie :(
Green star polyps, kenya tree, hammer coral, acanthasrea pachysepta, cynularia, frog spawn and last but not the least.... Aiptasia.
FC from Thailand
I want another update!
Orange Florida ricordea would be nice
Looks great
Great video do you have list of the corals on the video series .
red goni and utter chaos
def some red goni
Huh..”the one and only reef tank”
