  • Fashion designer Willi Smith, is one of the designers that painted the picture, for my possibilities, to realize my gifts. He had the formula for magic& sales, his clothes were amazingly comfortable, I remember when I purchase my first pair of Willi-wear slacks, I said out loud, " this designer is designing with me in mind", I Loved him, everybody did!...,ds

My last of high school was in 87 at Overbrook high school and I had a sewing class my first three periods of school and my teacher whom I don’t remember her name used to rave about Wili Smith, but at that time the only Will Smith I knew was a prior school mate of mine Will “ Fresh Prince” Smith. So it’s very cool to see this video of Willi Smith the famous fashion designer from my Alma Mater Overbrook High. He was a legend fo sho.

I was one of those young fashion designers energized by knowing that Willie Smith came from my city. I wish this documentary was longer.

oh wow, I wanted to see more of that at the end.. shame I was just a kid at his height.. I vaguely remember his face from back then, but I definitely remember the shapes and styles of his fashions.. I remember seeing his name on Spike Lee's credits and in Ebony/Jet magazines.. ahhh the 80s.. take me back..💖

I remember finding and buying my first Willi wear item at Unique warehouse, at the time I wasn't familiar with who he was, however, I knew that I felt that they were cut just for me and from then on out I was a Willi wear fan...ds

Wow, that music was horrible ...but the memoirs I cherish , he was the one black designer I knew of w/I was in high school , and the only reason I felt there was a place for me in the fashion industry at 18 yo in 1978. . My graduation suit from design school was a Willi Wear suit I had saved up to get and wore w/pride. That was actually my first of very few real designer garments I owned.
Most of the black designers now are so full of hype/ pomp and circumstance , and their work forgettable not to mention disposable.

I love his famous quote ...he does not design for the woman wearing his clothes, he designs for the woman that wave at them when they pass by... I may be quoted him incorrectly but it was along those lines. But still a beautiful connotation.
