    Great rev-view mate. Real informative and fun. I especially like the history and context of the model and hearing what changed - exactly what I was looking for! This vid and the cbr250rr one are 10/10. Keep it up :)

      @Complete Rider some great news.... I've had a CBR400rr come across for a potential purchase that's been restored and is amazing. showroom condition, but whilst it's very nice, they're asking 12k. thoughts on price ? I also still have the rvf on the top of my list .... single swing arm, etc. have you ridden the CBR400rr, and what are your thoughts v the rvf? cheers vince

      @@cenzofrisina6517 Sorry mate, I missed this comment. 12K is a lot of money but if it's as good as you say it could be worth a look. These bikes will only go up in price, so as a long term investment you can't go wrong but if you want to ride it as a daily it's value will drop fast. As for selling it in a couple of years and 10K kilometers you will probably lose half that amount. If you want a daily 400 you can't go past the later CB400 with VTECC, EFI and ABS. I've ridden all the CBR, VFR and RVF and I love the V4 better and I must admit I love the looks of the single sided swingarm and I think long term they will turn more heads and be rarer in the future. Let me know how you go.

      @Complete Rider thanks for your response. I have since let the 400rr go as I agree with it being too much dosh, and I've come to the conclusion that they are just not going to be what I want them to be . by this, i mean riding them and still retaining value, etc, and I rode a mc22 again today after ten years away from one, and tbh it didnt really fill a void like It did ten years ago. I still think they are a cracker little thing, but I'll just admire from a far. I felt like king kong on it. anyhow gone are also the days of an honest one that is tidy enough to enjoy. as for the cb400.....lovely bikes and soind great when the vtec kicks in. motorcycles are a hobby for me and get me away from the everyday , so not something to commute with, hene tje urge to just joy ride thr older stuff. thanks again . I'll let you know how I go

    I had one of these back in the day, my second bike after chopping in my RS250. I was just 15 years old and took it racing, and then also rode it on the road when I turned 16 (none of which was strictly legal, but back then, you could get away with it). The RS250 was faster, especially on track, but I always had a soft spot for this little beauty. One of the most beautiful bikes ever built, even more so than the RC45, and all packaged around a little 400cc intended for young kids like me (albeit not quite as young as I was!). This was the golden age of bikes. They don't make things like this anymore, with this level of exotica. Many happy memories, from racing and from touring around the country with my girlfriend on the back, getting up to all kinds of mischief, both on and off the bike! I'm thinking of getting another one and just admiring it in the garage. Great review btw!

      Thanks Timo, yes different power delivery to the RS and RGV. We used to race these 400's against the two strokes. They couldn't get past us, you would just back of the throttle a tad in the corners and they would lose the revs and couldn't make it up down the straights! Fun times.🤣 I love them all. Mate that's an awesome review! I am living in Hong Kong and there are still lots of 90s classic bikes here. So lucky that both HK and Aus have many imported bikes from Japan because of our geographical advantage. Hope you will do more reviews on 90s classic bikes!

      Thanks for the positive feedback I really appreciate it! These videos take about 10 hours each to put together, so it's great people are liking them. I love 90s bikes as well and I'm preparing my VFR400 for a review soon and I've got a 92 ZZR1000 coming up soon as well! It's a bit of a trade off because new bikes get the views, so eventually I'll try to alternate between them! Anyway thanks for the Sub and Ride safe. 👌

      p.s. Why did you get rid of it?

  • @rockyjs42
    @rockyjs42 4 года назад +5

    In my country back in 90s, 400cc bikes were extremely popular because they were imported by parts (In Thailand, we call them invoice bikes) and assemble to be a bike in the country which made the price quite affordable.
    Honda were CB400SF, CBR400RR, NC30, and Steed(Shadow).
    The RVF400 was very expensive. That was the reason why people who had a budget bought 1000cc bikes instead
    Yamaha were XJR400, Dragstar
    Suzuki were Inazuma, Impulse, Bandit, and GSXR-400R
    Now I ride the CB400SF VTEC Spec3.

    • @CompleteRider
      @CompleteRider  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching, I never knew about the 'invoice bikes' , interesting idea. One way to get around taxes I guess?? There must be a few of these Ex Japanese bikes in Thailand, I think that's where TYGA gear comes from? I've ridden quite a few CB400's and I recommend them to my students (I'm a Motorcycle Trainer). I like the way you can ride them calmly and smoothly at low revs but when you rev them hard they FLY!! Love that VTEC. I'll try and get one to shoot soon. Keep watching heaps more bikes to come. Thanks again.

    • @rockyjs42
      @rockyjs42 4 года назад +2

      @@CompleteRider Yeah, you are right sir👍.
      - I've heard that TYGA parts actually made in Thailand.
      - Invoice Bikes' price are as equal as 150cc 2 stroke motorcycles like
      Honda NSR150SP
      Yamaha TZR, TZM,
      Kawasaki KR, Serpico, Victor
      Suzuki RGV, RG Gamma1 & 2
      - Right now we can't import old motorcycle anymore except you have connections with ones who work in the authority.🤣
      - If anyone need to ride JDM 90s bike, you have to wait a chance when someone sell these bikes because they are very less, and some of them are in good condition and legally to ride as they got the plates from the transport authorities. But the price is quite high due to the bikes' freshness, original fairing, and accessory parts.
      - And CB400 is my childhood bike. My dad used to own Steed600 and I had a chance to sit and go to school.
      I really adore Steed. And I love CB400 because of its unique classic referent style, the sound, the smoothness of its engine.
      And the revival of the 90s motorcycles in Thailand are coming back. Many people are seeking to collect the classic bikes from 90s because they want to accomplish the dreams of owning these bikes when they were kids. These bikes never gets old whenever you look at them. And the price will also pump up.
      Anyway, good content. What a lovely bike you have. I'll look forward to see your new clips soon.

    • @CompleteRider
      @CompleteRider  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Callum, yep she's a keeper all right. You almost need to get one direct from Japan to get a good one these days. Because of their 'shaken' laws there are some good ones sitting around in sheds and they do come up for sale occasionally. You need to get to know an importer and get him to find a good one for you. Won't be cheap but good ones are the ones going up in value. It would be worth it as they are such a fun bike. Ride safe and Subscribe 👍.

      VERY few VFR400s and even fewer RVFs were ever imported here. My dad restored a VFR400 about 15 years ago; really cool bike. in the 90s and 2000s 600 race replicas were pretty popular here in the US and anything smaller was considered for beginner riders only and got little respect back then. In most of the US Big Touring bikes, Harleys, and ADV Tourers are really the most common thing you'll see on the road here. California has the best diversity of bikes of anywhere I've ever been, not uncommon to see some rare stuff on the roads there and lots of Euro bikes and classics are commonly seen there.

    In my experience from riding in the 90s/early 2000s, these are quite a bit slower than the NC30. I remember coming across a few and outdragging them on the 30. Definitely less power. No way in hell it would do 136mph with 50hp. In reality the nc30 would only pull about 130

    • @CompleteRider
      @CompleteRider  3 года назад

      Hi Michael, thanks for the good vibes. The rear stand looks great but it's a load of rubbish! Cheap, crap! I ended up having to modify the shaft to fit and when you raise the bike it tilts over to the right and feels like it's going to fall. But it looks good.😂 The muffler is a direct bolt up to the standard system, I run a restrictor in it, without that it loses all the bottom end and I can't be bothered re-jetting it and it really doesn't get ridden that much these days anyway. What's your fuel economy been like for the RVF400? I am in the process of rebuilding one and am curious, particularly once it is finished and I start tuning it
    I also have a CBR250RR MC22 and when I first bought it, it would do 6 - 6.5L / 100km. Then I had the carbs rebuilt and tuned and it did 5 - 5.5L / 100km. Recently I got it retuned with leaner needles and it produced even more power and torque and fuel economy is down to 4 - 4.5L / 100km

When I do ride it, I ride it hard so the economy turns to shit. But I would think somewhere around 5 litres per 100 kms would be fair in good tune. They are too much fun to rev out to care about juice! Ride safe and Subscribe!

      In Australia you'd expect to pay between 6 to 8 Grand for a good one but it all depends on condition and you get what you pay for. Most have been trashed over the years which is why I bought mine as it was in such original condition and I didn't want it to get wrecked! Good luck!

      Nothing wrong with an MC22, the one I reviewed was so cool. Just imagine your MC22 with what feels like 4 times the power and you have a RVF or VFR 400! Great fun bikes to ride!

    Is it easy to maintain ❓

    • @CompleteRider
      @CompleteRider  2 года назад

      Hi Jimmy, Yes they are pretty easy really. The engines are bullet proof, well over engineered for what they are. Being a race replica everything is easy to get to once you pull the fairings off, which is quick to do. Parts are plentiful both secondhand and aftermarket and even the rear wheel comes off with one nut!

    I have a Question
    Should I go for the RVF400/VFR400 or the CBR400RR ?

    • @CompleteRider
      @CompleteRider  3 года назад

      CBR's are great to ride no doubt, I feel they seem more top heavy than the V4 though. But how can you go past that single sided swingarm!! You can't right!

    • @petesmith8000
      @petesmith8000 3 года назад +1

      Have both, they are very different in how they ride, Wife loves the CBR, I love the RVF. If you are smaller than about 5ft then the CBR may suit you better as you almost sit in it..

    • @CompleteRider
