I'm looking at buying a second hand Toyota van (2004 5L diesel) with high milage. During the inspection I noted the last service records replaced the radiator cap and that the aluminium around the radiator cap has some erosion (very minor) from spilt coolant in the passed. I'm worried there is CO gas from the engine entering the cooling system (head gasket leak??)
While on the test drive I pulled over and opened the radiator cap while engine was running (dangerous and dumb i know) and there was a continuous stream of bubbles occurring at the top of the radiator, this had me very concerned about the state of the head gasket but I have since learned it could also just be boiling coolant seeing as the engine was hot and thermostat open. I have booked in a diesel mechanic to do a compression test next week and the purchase is pending on the result, will this provide all answers I'm looking for? I was also thinking of purchasing a head leak tester instead (I'm in Australia and auto shops wont loan them) and next time I inspect the van checking the radiator from cold for bubbles. I'm really hoping the radiator cap replacement was just because the rubber seal failed with age and the cooling system is still okay.
Any insights or recommendations greatly appreciated!
Good things to look out for! Compression test will be a big tell, also it shouldn’t be bubbling a couple minutes after cold startup (it may bubble initially a little)
If it really was a head gasket leak into coolant, engine would overheat pretty consistently I would think. (Combustion gasses getting into coolant)

Backstory:
I have a 2002 RAV4 with 75K miles on it. The transition is going south. Until I looked up what it would cost to replace my transmission, I didn't know this model year has a faulty transmission.
Question:
Is there a great TOTALLY DIFFERENT transmission out there I can buy, new, that would fit into my 2002 RAV4 or do I have to go with another 2002 crappy transmission?
Until now, the only issue with this 2002 Toyota RAV4 has been a replaced serpentine belt.

My A/C (16 Honda Pilot) is blowing cold only on the lowest setting. Everything else is warm. Can you help me understand the best way to troubleshoot it on my own? All I know is to add freeon and just found out from AutoZone my car uses 1234YR and its crazy expensive! Is adding freon the best first step?

I have a Hyundai Elantra 2020 with a loud knock. I have also noticed a chattering sound and a little squeal while accelerating. Can serpentine belt cause these problems F wore out? Oh yeah loses power upon acceleration.

Hi josh,I have what I feel is a unique dilemma. Certain components of my hvac system are not hooked up and I do not have them to even hook up. That being said,the option to turn my heat or ac on isn't one. There is a hissing sound under my dash and my expansion tank is boiling over. Through my research and the aid from your videos "which have helped tremendously "narrow down the issue I am feeling somewhat unsure what to to do next. I flushed my radiator by directly pouring into upper hose,flushed heater core with a hose great flow on both sides,no visible leaks on pump or Stat. To get to the point,is the hissing a leak in the core which is causing boiling over? I do not believe head gaskets blown absolutely no white smoke or milky oil. "07 SILVERADO CLASSIC 4.8L.
Hi Josh, I have a old 03 Chev Impala 3.4. The coolant fans never comes on during normal operating temp but comes on when the ac is on. Temp goes to mid range, dtc/obd temp is at 195* degrees and relays are all working. Is this normal ? Thanks

Why could my car have a grinding noise while driving? Apparently rotors are touching the pads without me using the break and when I use the break the noise stops. My rotors are actually tore, the front ones are tore unevenly and the ones in the back evenly. My car has 6 months 12k km, do you think the maces maybe damaged? I appreciate your thoughts about it
I have 2004 honda civic it doesn't over heat it stays below the hot and cold marker on dash board but every time i use car and check radiator it takes between 1 and 2 cups antifreeze i just put new hoses and thermostat . Dont see leak where its coming from any thoughts ty

Hello I have a 2017 Toyota tundra the catalytic converter on a passenger side had been stolen add insurance covered for it to be replaced the check engine light was on they replaced the sensors and the check engine light would still come on and so a different mechanic replace the catalytic converters again on the passenger side and the sensors and exhaust system all the way back. Short while later not even a month the light came back on same thing it will not stay off. What would you suggest that I try now?
I just had my power steering pump replaced and the next thing I know my car is overheating is it no oil no coolant or water at all and a ker-clunking sound like a knocking after putting oil in it and putting water because of the summer the gauge started to act like it was cooling down then the next thing I know is every time I stop or start slow down the car stops immediately and then it stopped accelerating what could this have been from

Please, Why is my Toyota camry vibrating whenever I begin to accelerate from slowed-down position? Vibration disappears when on steady speed. Then reappears if I slowed down and attempt to accelerate from the slowed-down position... its really annoying. The mechanic hasn't found a solution after checking engine seats, shaft, tyres, front allignment. Thanks.
I would have guessed cv axles too… perhaps a vacuum issue (check vacuum lines), but could also be a transmission thing
Mom’s 2012 Dodge Avenger is making a weird sound that sounds like it is coming from the driver’s side front door.
It makes a light “bonk,” followed by a “doink,” that sounds like a string being plucked. When it does this, the RPMs drop slightly (not while actually driving, but when idle, it does this in both park and drive), and the headlights also dim slightly at the bonk, then brighten back up at the doink. Never ever heard this sound before, even from my car, which was a certified 💩box lol.
Whoa that’s a new one. Headlights dimming makes me think electrical tho! Alternator would be the first culprit to check. Try get a free alternator check at an auto parts store
Congrats dude! I love this channel its so helpful, easy to understand, and the visuals are great, me being a visual person. I have a 2014 Mustang GT, and after this winter snow ended ( I do not drive it in the winter/snow) I turned her on and it was making a funny noise from the engine bay. No squeak squeal or rattling, the best way I could describe it is like someone was shaking a maraca . Or like a cicada bug making its noise.
A lot of people say the ac compressor goes on these cars typically, but Im not sure if thats it. It may be. The car has only 43000 miles.

I would try turn ac on and off and see if that changes the sound. If it does, it points to that compressor. Same can be done with power steering pump sound

Okay QUESTION: I only got the front ones done so far and the grinding noise seems worse! Is it true that the pads should slide easily in the clampy clip thingys? Because they were a real bugger to even snap in and they are tight! Is filing the tabs down a good solution to this?
I also heard you say that the grinding noise is often from the rear brakes. So I gotta tackle those next. But the fact that the grinding is worse after changing the front ones bothers me. Now I'm kinda afraid to keep driving it this way.
Hey Jill! Sorry for the delay! Still making noise? I would suspect those little metal clips as well. Pads should clip in firmly but smoothly. If they get bent funny that can rub on rotors and make grinding noise. Rear can do the same thing but not necessarily more common

Like the car doesn’t turn over? Perhaps it was never the problem in the first place. Bad battery, contacts, and wires can also cause no-start issues. Also I’ve had bad brand new parts MANY times
Hi. I messaged you previously about trouble with my wiper fluid system. I'm still having lots of trouble with it. I took apart my car to gain access to the reservoir and the pump to examine it to see if I could find the problem. Previously, the rear fluid would not dispense but the front one would. Now that I've taken it apart and put it back together, neither one works. I tested the system while it was off the car and I discovered that it did work. Although sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't and I couldn't figure out why it did work sometimes and why it didn't sometimes. It seems like I'm going to have to take it all apart again. Or pay someone else to do it. I can hear the motor working when I activate the switch for both the front and the rear so that's not it. It has worked in the past (at least for the front) so it's not a clogged line nor a blocked nozzle for the front. I think it must be a blocked line for the rear though. I pulled the tube out of the back nozzle and activated the rear sprayer and nothing came out (this was when it was sort of working). What advice can you offer me? If you don't remember, I have a Fiat 500 Abarth 2013. I must have put It's driving me crazy. I really don't understand what's going on with it.
If you can access to compressed air I would blow the lines out as much as you can. When a motor sporadically works it can be a sign it’s failing. Might be worth trying a new pump
Hey I live in Honolulu and just Bought a Saab 93 2008 for cheap just did valve cover gasket job basically I did a pressure test and I have a coolant leak from the heater core hose but I do hear bubbling and when I first went to oreillys the guy said that my head gasket was leaking air into my coolant system which I’m hoping isn’t the case but basically what’s happening is the coolant decides when it wants to stay in the reservoir sometimes it’s over flowing from the spout and sometimes the reservoir is empty what do you think it is?
I’m inclined to agree with him unfortunately. But do a block test on the radiator and check if you’re getting a pressure leak to be sure
Hi! The Suzuki 1.9 diesel engine makes a scrubbing/ grinding noise only after starting the engine from time to time, the car is standing still. I replaced the air conditioner compressor pulley, but the noise is still heard until the engine warms up. what else could it be? Thank you
Lots of other pulleys with bearings it could be. Try with a mechanic stethoscope or metal “sounding” rod to isolate the sound
I did my brakes for my infinity q50 and the loud scraping noise is still there
Are your rotors being scraped that you can see? Physical checking is the best way to diagnose

My coolant gauge goes up and down to red always moving add small amount all it took ? 0:37
Constantly moving temp gauge indicates failed (stuck open) thermostat. But shouldn’t be going to red. I would check for leaks
acadia drivers side power window switch wont go up. only down.
Window won’t go up? Sounds like motor or possibly damaged lifting cable/hardware

Also, when I use the acceleration it gets louder. Afterwards become normal. Each time I press the accelerator it happens. What can be cause that?
Front driver and passenger hear it low, but at the back it is very loud. I went to mechanic, he said fuel pump is clogged, also heat shield is loose. I am not convinced though about the issue. Because the sound at the back seats is really loud when I press the gas. Thanks.
A little hard to tell but that rattling could be from loose exhaust components (heat Shield or loose manifold?) do it effect engine performance?
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Hello. Thanks for the reply. One mechanic said it's the timing chain. I have already replaced the timing chain tensioner, but didn't help. Engine gets loud when when I hard press the acceleration and also if the RPM is over 1500. But they asked for $2200 for timing chain job which sounds very high. What can be a reasonable price for timing chain job? Is it worth it? Because the engine is a replaced one, so I am confused. Thanks.

2018 Tacoma, feels like the shift between gears at low speed is clunky
Good question. Those are not the smoothest transmissions ever built but too much clunk isn’t normal. Bring it over ;)
While driving fast around a turn maybe 75mph my steering wheel wobbles a whole lot, i think we discovered i need a wheel bearing but im running 31s with -44 offset so if theres any other problems i could be having id be happy to hear what you think
Bearings are a possibility, though I would suspect inner or outer tie rods or rack and pinion first. Should be able to jack the car up and find where the slack is coming from

Yes. All bolts to value 1 and then all bolts to value 2
