Now that’s a proper review. Well done, was looking at a set for my 16 Forester. This is a great video, and made me a believer in the quality and capability of these tires. That is a good looking Subaru by the way 🏆💯
1:55 I did that hill in my van last month, stock grand caravan, dragged my oilpan through 10 km of super hard snow to get there, on the fence about lifting my forester, i already rip through there, sometimes do river crossing,
Ye sorry I meant to say that I'm 70% on the road but still want to do some 'soft' roading. I'm UK based and have found the 205/80/16, it's a common Jimny size from the looks of it. It's my first off road setup, previous cars have been sporty/lowered, setup for cornering. May main thought is that too thin? Should I aim for 225? Is the lift enough? Cheers
I haven't seen a lot of 205/80/16 on Subaru's but with that lift you can fit a 28.5″ wheel, which is most commonly a 225/65-17 but if you wanted a 16 you could go to a 225/70-16 which they do make in the AT3s. But if you wanted something a little less aggressive you could go for an On-Road A/T like a Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015. You could probably get away with a 205/80/16 as it is only 2% difference.
Here in Germany we have 215/60-16 as standard on the Forester SG. That's ok for normal forest paths and a bit mud. I have Dunlop Wintersport 5 on my Forry, they work better than expected but do not last very long on those gravel and mud roads.
15x7 with 225/75R15 tires, the they are pretty big so you will have to do some modifications, check out the install video! ruclips.net/video/-KWGYW9gepE/видео.html
@@Chase_Schrader currently on about 2.5" lift with 15x7 +15 and 225/70/15 that need replacing soon. Figure 225/75 would fit but kind of worried about 235. But do want bigger 🤷♂️🤦♂️
The toyo open country AT 3 are GARBAGE. Had them on my 2017 forester for 2 months this past winter here in New Brunswick. I've never been so scared to drive in my life Temps out here got down below -30 -35 multiple times this winter here. The tires turned rock hard and I was sliding all over the roads. I called toyo and spoke to a rep. He said the tires are not designed to go this low in Temps and they will get hard because of the compound. He said they had multiple calls due to this issue. . Took them off after 2 months and sold them off. I rock terra trac AT 2s now. Best tire I've used so far.
Interesting, I haven't heard of that issue before nor have I had that issue when the temps drop here, although we usually we are playing in the deep snow by then. That being said they still flex when aired down at those temps. I feel at that temperature most year around A/Ts are going to have an issue and a winter tire might be best for hard pack roads roads at -35C. Nice, I have head good things about those more budget orientated tires!
Have you actually tried the KO2 tires on your Forester, to do a fair comparison? And if so, for the same amount of time? I think once you try KO2 you'll never go back
As an owner of Flat 4 Offroad, we have built quite a few vehicles with KO2s. Don’t get me wrong they are great tires especially in mud but we found they do leave a bit to be desired when it comes to noise and winter performance.
What tires do you run? Let me know!
General Grabber APTs. There a great daily A/T.
Nice! I have heard some good things about those too!
502 VT-spec Method Bronze wrapped with 225 75 R15 Open Country A/T III

Love how you narrated this video! It’s like I’m watching a Nat Geo on tires and over landing 😮

Awesome! I'm glad the real-life testing was helpful to you. Thanks for watching! Building it has definitely been quite a journey!
Excellent video, man!
I been researching the best A/T tires for my 2015 Forester.
I'm pretty much sold on these Toyos.
Thanks! Yeah they are great tires!

What size for 2001 Subaru Outback
215/75-15 is great with a 1-2" lift!
I have a 2011 Subaru Outback. Looking to do 1.5" lift and run 205/80/16 Toyo Open Country AT3. Any recommendations?
I don't believe they make a 205/80/16 Toyo Open Country AT3. What recommendations are you looking for?

Sweet video, excited to get my set tomorrow,. Btw And is your favorite words huh lol
Nice, they are a good choice! I guess so, but it’s better then saying um
Hi. You have P - metric sizes or LT - metric sizes? what was the tread depth when the tire was new?
P rated, the LT are a bit heavier and not needed for a Subaru. 225/75R15 and Toyo says the tread depth is 13/32s new
Thank you for your response. I'm asking because I bought it and the depth is 9mm, I don't understand how it's possible for such a tire
Of course, yeah they have a pretty big tread
so I really don't understand how it is possible that my new ones only have a 9mm tread
9mm is pretty close to 13/32 so that seems right
Well I was going to ask you waht size wheels you have them on but I ca get them for my wheel specs! I might switch to those next time.
The wheels are 15x7 and the tires are 225/75R15 102T!
@@Chase_Schrader okay cool. I run 215/70R/16 on my 16x7s.
Nice that’s pretty standard!

@@Chase_Schrader +15 offset? Any wheel spacers? I've been trying to decide between 225/75 and 235/75 🤷♂️
Yup +15! No spacers, 225 are tight with a 1.75in lift, I had to to a bunch of work with a hammer, 235 need at least a 2inch lift I would think

Nice! 235 would fit with a little bit of hammering an maybe folding the pitch welds if you haven't yet, the only concern would be the power!

Toyos I agree are much better than the KO2s in a number of different categories
