He was born in 1754, two years before Mozart and died in 1837, ten years after Beethoven. He was then the witness of the most amazing epoch of music history.

The style reminds of Carl Stamitz. Delightful concerto and sounds very polished as well!

The piece I have to play for my exam in third cycle ! Hours of hard work, but for such a great concerto ! The part from 3:17 was really focused on the right hand.

Only discovered it recently. As it is so nice, I had to get the music. It is edited in SCHOTT under No. VAB27, for those interested. They ship from DE to anywhere in EU.Total Cost circa 30EUR

As I'm currently learning this, I come here regularly to listen. A truly remarkable concerto. If I may, where did you get/take the pictures from? They fit very nicely.

I've grown to really adore this concerto but I have to say that in the Allegro the tutti sections are more beautiful than the viola part. To my ears, the melodies in the tutti are filled with the exemplary charismatic grace and elegance you would expect from any great work of the high Classical era, but the viola part sounds somewhat contrived and self-serving with its embellishments of the themes. I understand that a concerto is a showpiece, but I believe that there are many other concerti from this era that better utilize the element of virtuosity as a means of serving the music.
Edit: I just learned that the composer was a violinist/violist. I find it fascinating that string-playing composers tend to write incredible and memorable melodies (like Paganini) but often fall into the same pitfall I described above when composing concerti.

Quite Mozartean not only in ease of melodic and technical execution but also in degree of thematic inspiredness. An unexpected gem to stumble upon via youtube. Would anyone happen to have the digital sheet music? IMSLP doesn't seem to have it :(

This Schubert is related to the famous Lieder composer Schubert? I do love this ladder one but never know the one I hear now. I like it.
@@teegos I read that they are from different Schubert families. This one is from old East Germany that now is another country. And famous Lieder Schubert is not from this place.

@@emmaaxelson7821 - my initial reaction too, but it 's not. Anyone else recognise it? - The concerto is quite a find! I imagine he was a viola player. They don't get into the limelight very much (apart from Harold In Italy).
