  • Following the video on how the wind generates drive in sails, this video uses that understanding to derive the 2 basic principles of sail trim. This video is intended for Basic Cruising Students, and focuses on how to use the tell tales on the foresail to adjust the jib sheet and keep the lower tell tales flying smoothly.

    Really helpful video, thank you! It's interesting that there's the same debate in sailing physics as there is with airplanes - whether it's Newton's third law or Bernoulli's principle that best explains "lift"! Not surprising since they're both airfoils, but I'm just getting into sailing having been a private pilot, so it's news to me. Thanks again!
