This is such an awesome movie. Friday is the flip side to the story. Cube said in an interview that Friday was to show people that there were good things in the hood too.
When Tre asked Doughboy “did they get him” illustrates that although he got out the car and avoided ruining his future, his heart and mind was still focused on vengeance. When Doughboy looked at him, and said it didn’t matter it goes to show that even though they killed Ferris and the gang it didn’t solve nothing; just a repeated cycle.
And they probably didn't kill the whole gang. Which is how Doughboy then got it next. More revenge. And then even though Tre left, someone else probably still went for revenge for Dough. Cycle on and on
Even after Doughboy avenged Ricky's death, the dissatisfaction on his face tells it all. Almost like it was a total waste. And then Doughboy himself gets it just weeks later. Like it's been said here, the cycle of vengeance & retribution just continued on with no endgame.

I flew into LAX late one night, my first time in the US. I missed my original flight and connection to LV, and had to be there by morning. The only way I could do it was to get the last Greyhound from the bus station in south central, so I took one of those shuttle buses to get there. We drove from the airport, through downtown and then Skid Row. What really struck me the most was how the area just seemed designed for crime - barely any street lights, pools of darkness between every building, the bus station itself seemed under siege by crackheads and drug fiends. It was profoundly depressing. I've travelled a lot, including to many developing countries, and I have to say, that part of LA is the biggest shithole I have ever seen.
You missed out on alot of other shitlhole areas of LA! The darkness and lack of street lights along with that 'desiged for crime' vibe are probably the first things that occurred to me as well when I moved there in 2009.
I know it’s a serious moment when he says “Either they don’t know, don’t show or don’t care about what’s going on in the hood” but I keep seeing the scene with Marlon Wayans saying it in Don’t Be A Menace.
The one thing I wish they would have shown in this clip is the way Doughboy tucked the 40 in his hand and hid it down by his side when he walked past the older lady on the sidewalk as a sign of respect. That was truly powerful to me. Because it shows that he was really a good young man at heart and was truly just a victim of his environment. Had to do what he had to do to survive in that environment and coming from a home where his mother chastised him and treated him horribly his whole life due to no fault of his own.
I can remember being at the Joy Theater on Canal St in New Orleans seeing this movie, this scene being at the end and as this audience was leaving and the light were raised many ladies and people in general wiping their eyes, powerful RIP John Singleton
Great movie with an unbelievable message for young people...the wrong choices can and will have an impact in your life. An amazing cast, a true Classic
I first watched this movie I was like 7/8 years old I thought it was a documentary. I watched it with my friend and his Aunty. She read the dialogue for us at the end about Doh boy getting killed two weeks later. It hit hard, so poignant so sharp the pain, the realism. It’s sad because he pours the alcohol out, knowing not vengeance not drugs nothing could numb his pain. Pouring the alcohol out and having Cuba say to him, you still have one more brother left. Like you are not alone. Sadly he couldn’t escape his situation, I always wondered did mother weep for him as much as she did for Ricky?
If that's what you want then that's what happened. It's an ambiguous ending with the only information saying doughboy was killed off screen and Tre went to college
I've brought up that question as well. I have the feeling that when she found out Doughboy was killed, she just brushed it off and didn't cry in the same way for him as she did for Ricky.
"Hey, Dough, you still have one brother left". That scene will always get to me. I Grew up in South Central L.A. in the 80s and 90s. Those were hard times.
Hearing doughboy say he ain't got no brother and no mother neither really tugs at the heart strings all he wanted was the same love from his mom as she gave Ricky but she despised him.
One goes college gets an education One dies tragically. The contrast of lives and the ingredients to each persons lives determines their outcomes. I thought this film highlighted that perfectly
I'm assuming that the people who killed Doughboy were other members of the Bloods Gang That Ferris was a member of, even though it is never mentioned by name in the movie, I believe Doughboy was a member of the Crips
This movie was such a beacon, especially at the time with all that happened in LA in the early '90s. John Singleton was in his early 20s when he directed this. Sadly Singleton lost his life to a stroke 5 years ago. What an important voice he might be today.

Those words Doughboy said "We all got to go sometime". An inevitable thing that we all are forced to have a part in our lives that we all just so dread. I have to at least respect him for accepting it like a man. As much as I wish such a thing on no one, it is respectable when one is willing to not let it break them.

This’s a strong message that many people won’t get you can side with woke mindless people but the same media and people that say they care about you and your people won’t show you black on black crime because they don’t care and want it to continue and it has from day one.
Boyz In The Hood is one of the best movies ever made. Cube’s acting debut is one of the greatest. He phenomenal in this film
Ice Cube's film debut shows that he was a natural talented actor and should've won awards for his performance.👍👍👍✊✊✊
I think his mother did mourn Doughboy wen he was gone.. sad he never got the love she gave to Ricky. If he had Doughboy mite have been different
Y’all noticed the momma blamed him for Rickey’s Death which wasn’t the case
I remember everybody the whole audience in the theater went “UGH” when Doughboy died
"Hey, Dough, you still have one brother left". That scene will always get to me. I Grew up in South Central L.A. in the 80s and 90s. Those were hard times.
This is real life, and still so relevant today!
Ice cube should have won Oscars for this
Damn right he should have
@@charlesbaker1688 yup, he should because he show his soft side he is.
Hilarious

You still got one brother left 😢😢😢
When Tre said that to Doughboy, it really touched my heart
I'm assuming that the people who killed Doughboy were other members of the Bloods Gang That Ferris was a member of, even though it is never mentioned by name in the movie, I believe Doughboy was a member of the Crips
This movie was such a beacon, especially at the time with all that happened in LA in the early '90s. John Singleton was in his early 20s when he directed this. Sadly Singleton lost his life to a stroke 5 years ago. What an important voice he might be today.
I always respected the fact Doughboy took his trash with him and didn't litter after he dumped it out.. we could all learn a lesson from Dough.
Yeah I wish a lot of people took that lesson around here, most people just throw their trash out the car window
Doughboy: Later G
Tre: Later
Doughboy: 5,000😢
This scene still touches me😢
What's 5000 mean ?
@@John-lf6lg Tha Idk
@@John-lf6lg Audi 5000 was a popular car in the 80s, especially in hip-hop
It's another way of you saying "I'm out"
AUDI meaning outtie...just shortened it to 5000
@@darrenharris3434 🎉thanks man
“You still got one brother left.” That was what Dough needed to hear. When you have been friends for so long that friendship transcends into brotherhood. Glad I have some friends with this kind of connection.
A movie only the 90s could bring up and make
I do believe that Ricky's death was inevitable... Because of the run in with the thugs, which was the opposite for Tre.
ice cube is a great actor his anger feels so natural
That mom lost her two sons in a span of two weeks.
She physically lost Ricky and she mentally and emotionally lost Doughboy a very long time ago!
Ice Cube likely used the experience of losing his older sister to help him with this scene.
Love how doughboy said he never been up this early in a long time what a very symbolic way of saying he's finally woke💯
🙄
😢The ending always makes me cry when Cuba Gooding jr hugged Ice Cube and told him he still got one brother left so sweet and touching and it's sad how he died 2 weeks later 😢😢
The only way to hurt Doughboy was through Ricky, the sacrificial lamb, the only good thing that Doughboy cared about
He cared about Tre too, even he said Tre was right to get out of the car.
Doughboy knew....he knew his death was coming. Very scary man..
Sometimes..... you just know....
Those words Doughboy said "We all got to go sometime". An inevitable thing that we all are forced to have a part in our lives that we all just so dread. I have to at least respect him for accepting it like a man. As much as I wish such a thing on no one, it is respectable when one is willing to not let it break them.
I dated a woman who couldn’t stand her son. Treated him just like doughboys mom did. Felt bad for him. Tried to show him love and kindness. But in the end me and his mother didn’t last. He’s in prison now smh
REAL TALK,,,THIS WAS SUCH AN EMOTIONAL MOVIE,,,,LOT OF TEARS IN THE THEATRE!!!!!💯💯💯🤎🤎🤎
This was one of my dads favorite movies
This is one of the most profound and prominent scenes in a hood movie, if I ever saw one.
This’s a strong message that many people won’t get you can side with woke mindless people but the same media and people that say they care about you and your people won’t show you black on black crime because they don’t care and want it to continue and it has from day one. Someone that cares about you will tell you all the truth about your flaws.
It’s one big club and your not in it
They both turned into really good actors
3:55-5:05 hearing that wistful orchestral music, as well as Doughboy literally fading away, is so heavy. Gets me every time.
The movie not winning Oscars for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay are one of the biggest crimes in film history.
The "got no mother neither part" hurt the most, he had no chance.
Wow, when Ice Cube could actually act.
Wonders never cease.
It is pretty crazy how relevant it is still that our country seems to be more preoccupied with helping Ukraine and other foreign countries instead of trying to help out our own country
Remember this movie when it was fresh sad looking at it years later makes even more sense in today's world even more than ever
“Either they don’t know, don’t show or don’t care what goes on in the hood” crazy that this still applies today
One of my favorite movies ever
A very good and touching movie and it is one of those movies you can watch over and over again, even though you know how the ending will be, sad though
You still got one brother left man that line is sad and touching at the same time knowing that he’ll be killed next until tre is the last man standing
30 years later the news still "dont know, dont show, or dont care what goes on in the hood"
"Black men go for war for a purpose, but we are in a war with ourselves everyday."
Oshea Jackson Sr is on point here about what he mentioned in regards to the hood
His mother basically traumatized him by sending him there. Great parenting btw
She wanted him to be raised by his father, so he could teach him how to be a man.
But she tried to get him back before Rick's death, but Tre refused. Tre did this to himself
4:01 got me!
You still got one brotha left man.
Long Live Ricky , Rip John Singleton , Rip Doughboy & Long Live Uncle Jerome
AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE BY ICE CUBE!!!!!🫡🫡🫡💯💯💯
This movie still hits hard

Perfect scene. I’m still trying to find that song. Such a beautiful, yet haunting piece of music.
“I gotta go, cuz!” Even that line was deep to me for some reason.
Live your life by the smoke die by the smoke.
I saw this when I was like 6, mom showed it to me as a cautionary tale; ending always got me, the futility of it all. All the ridin and bangin they did and it was all for nothin…
Either they don't know don't show or don't care about what's going on in the hood -Doughboy
Powerful ending.
