EA was a hero. Letting small studios take a chance while just publishing. But now they take take and take some more. To the point of if you say no they will steal from you.
Editor’s Note: Small correction at 10:05. We incorrectly stated that profits of EA increased from $8M to $875M. To be more technically nuanced, EA’s _net income_ is what increased by this amount. Thanks for pointing out this error! ❤
Then the Loot Box monster got a hold of it when it came out in november 2017. This is a major stepping stone for children and teens to grow up and waste all their money on casinos if it wasn't for disgruntled children, teens, and parents complaining to the news media, government, or corporate. Then EA removed the loot box progression system altogether but, it is was too little too late.
Titanfall 2 They released the game in the same time period as Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1. But every DLC and update they have released has been free. EA makes no sense.
Grom Bmista that's different, they released 2 competing games at the same time just to screw call of duty sales, which actually worked if you look at sales numbers. They succeeded in bringing CoD to the ground at the cost of ruining their own IP. Titanfall 2 is likely the best quality fps released in that window, and both Titanfall 2 and Battlefield were bundled and found on sale when they released.
Hell, even NFS 2015, as much as people complain that there's little content in that game, has no DLC and got free updates, don't know about that but EA seems to be changing, for better or for worst at least there's change(?).
CoD brought itself down, Titanfall 2 had little to do with it. Just remember all the hub bub around the BF1 and CoD:IW trailers with both becoming the 2 most viewed video game trailers on you tube and 1 of them being the most disliked video on the entire website. EA fucked over Titanfall 2, not really by making it compete against CoD, but to compete against BF, their oh so glorious expensive dlc ridden cancer. (and no I'm not dissing DICE and Battlefield which I love dearly, just Electronic Ass)
Mass Effect 3 was the final straw for me. Such a shame that a game with so much potential turned out to be the weakest in the series. Mass Effect 3 being rushed was such an injustice to the series. On a lighter note, who here remembers the classic Need for Speed series from the 90s to the early 00s? So many fond memories of Need for Speed II, III, and Porsche 2000.
Do you mean Star Wars 1313? That actually showed some promise going off of the trailers, but noooooo Disney killed that deader than the Dodo when they acquired LucasArts. They killed all the decent SW games that were pre-production at that time - including an incomplete Battlefront 3 that never saw an official release (if you look up something like Galaxy in Crisis or a similar name you can see what it might have been). In retaliation of sorts (or in tribute) Raven studios turned all their SW stuff to freeware or open license and sold it all through Steam. (20+ games for under AU$99) But if you mean SWTOR2 then yeah that didn't need to happen, there were better choices elsewhere for MMOs....
nope. dragon age was created by bioware. They could have found some other company other than EA that could have funded them. A company who does not have a record of sinking franchises. You go away, stupid.hahahah!
you know at this point he's trolling right, hard to admit that dragone age will never exist because of EA, but there's a plenty more publisher out there that can fund their progress
Can we all just acknowledge that CD Projekt Red is the best, most moral developer in the game right now? Throw more $ at them so they can make more awesome games.
SgX12345 6 Totally. And as much as I want to play it now now now, I respect that they never rush it and they do their best to give us a complete, working game out the gate. And they don't do any pre order bs. Everyone is on the same level. And their DLCs are fairly priced and worth every penny.
Trip Hawkins is truly a visionary and the pioneer of the Indie game industry. He really saw the game is art and willing to adopt business mode from entertainment industry.
I started buying EA games back during the C-64 years. And I continued when the 90's came and PC's were the thing. I stopped buying EA products many years ago when I realized they weren't into making games that were actually fun anymore, and all they were trying to do was tease every last cent out of me to play some crappy unfinished game full of bugs that were never fixed before the next title was released. I gave them a chance again after a good long time when Simcity 2013 was released - and we all know how that went. *sad thoughts of Maxis* They have permanently lost me as a customer. When looking at new games, I now look who made it, who published it, and if EA has touched it in any way I move on to something else. That's a company that needs to get shuttered and its assets picked apart by different entities so that maybe we can once again see the rise of decent game titles from the long list EA-Aquired & Killed companies. If enough people had the same practice of bypassing all EA games, that could actually happen. Seeing Electronic Arts on a title used to mean more than getting screwed over. IMO anyway.
Capcom's not so big a villain. Sure, they're as big a victim of sequalitis as any, but they're not villains like EA has been since the early 2000's. Now LJN? They were a bunch of shovelware jerks who died once people caught on that the rainbow logo meant made of fail.
What's up with that quick visual reference to Cities: Skylines when talking about how EA ruined Sim City? There's no connection there; Cities: Skylines is produced by Paradox Interactive.
Steve Edwards Cities: Skylines is laughing at the Sim Cities series, because in the minds of many (myself included), the most recent Sim City game can't hold a handle to Cities: Skylines.
EA & Nexon deserve to die as a company for the crimes of bringing down so many good IP, also this censorship, dlc and microtransactions have to stop and only you as a costumer have the power to stop them, do not buy or play their games, you only keep giving them reasons to continue their scummy practises.
This is what happens when your main goal becomes profit. Super successful businesses are never built on the objective of profit. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
True, but the really good ones (at least in the areas of making anything) don't exist for profit, especially in artistic areas. Example, Minecraft (yeah, I'm not particularly familiar with most of the gaming industry). Minecraft didn't come to be because Notch thought it would make a lot of money. Minecraft came to be because Notch thought it would be a fun game, and half the world agreed. A good game studio or publisher won't look at a game and say "how can we make more money off of this game?" but rather "how can we make the experience of this game as enjoyable as possible?". Yes, making a fun game will bring more customers and higher profits (in general), but in order to make a really fun game the money side of things has to become second priority. Of course, there are also games like candy crush that are designed with psychology in mind to be as addictive as possible while asking for money as often as they can get away with...
Agreed. And though Nintendo can’t truly be compared to an indie studio, their Splatoon franchise can be used as a second example not for revenue generation but because the core premise, art, gameplay and multiplayer are just plain fun. And the only money Nintendo is asking for regarding Splatoon 2 is the $20 Octo Expansion, which will practically double the size of the game. Maybe not the best example, but at least it proves that as long as the dev/publisher isn’t being too obvious about making cash-in games or who CARES about the enjoyment of the game rather than continuous leeching from consumers’ wallets, then the gamers will support it, and support it long-term.
I wish that was the world we live in. EA and Comcast are both shining examples that caring more about profit than product will make you a giant company in your industry and guarantee your success. Ironically they're also regularly at the top of the list for most hated companies. Just like EA buys up loads of developers to kill any competition, Comcast does that with things like movie studios. (ignoring Comcast's monopolies in regards to providing overpriced shitty internet) Once you have the money to kill any competition that arises, you're going to be a guaranteed success for pretty much the rest of time. So long as people turn a blind eye to monopolies, caring more about profit and buying out all competition is how a company guarantees long-term success.
Though they're miles ahead of PES in terms of overall experience, they are still behind PES when it comes to the gameplay. Don't Know why they aren't making the gameplay pes alike. Monopoly maybe.
I honestly think that EA could really help their bottom line by less dlc, and more developer independence, which would help them, as they are being boycotted by many, many people. So if they do what the people want, they will probably do good.
Visceral was not an acquisition but was just a label for their Redwood Shores studio for "mature games". Redwood Shores had been EA HQ for a long time.
I love your comment about Battlefield 2 lol - then I check the date of this video and I can see you didn't anticipated the future incredible crash and burn disaster EA find themselves in because of their unending greed...
as someone who worked at EA back in 2008-2009, i'm surprised they are still functioning. EA's habit of hiring and firing is just the same as their habit of buying development studios and shutting them down.
This video had more than a few good reasons as to why EA is the worst gaming publisher/developer out there but it failed to mention one of the big reasons that a lot of people hate them. Remember Peter Moore? That smug shit who called ALL PC gamers pirates and went on to move all the sports franchises to consoles only? Yeah, him. That asshole was CEO around the time that EA's downfall started and a lot of the blame has to be put on his shoulders. When you call a LARGE portion of your customers criminals that's gonna piss a lot of them off. He now runs a soccer team in Liverpool, but the stain of his presence still remains at EA.
The price of the game + DLC is usually only a bit higher than what we would have had to pay for a modern game if there were no DLC. Games cost a lot of money, most of the cost come from making the visuals. With the DLC model the main part of the game can be bought by a lot of people that otherwise couldn't buy it if it cost the full amount. The people able to buy the DLC basically pays for themself and the people not affording the full price of a modern game.
0:16 That's pretty easy to answer. It finally went downhill, when they became a stock market company. Because at that exact moment, you stop working for your customers and start working for your stock package holders. But I''m interested in what you have to say.
My favorite games are Sim City 4 (released in 2004), and Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed (released in 2000). Ever since 2004 I have yet to find an EA game worth my time. I miss the era when Electronic Arts strove to "explore the capabilities of the personal computer". Ever since I have had to search for other studios that deliver such well crafted, and fun products.
The one time I want EA to release DLC they release none. Mirror's Edge Catalyst was supposed to get DLC, but over a year later and there has been no mention of it.
I'm disappointed you didn't mention Dawngate in your video. Dawngate was a MOBA game set up by EA and the beta was released in May 2014. Six months later, EA announced they were shutting down the project because... no one knows why actually. But we can all guess it is because of money. Funny thing was that a lot of popular (League of Legends) streamers and professional gamers were playing the game and streaming it. The game had a very active subreddit. Professional teams were even set up at one point. The game was growing and the community was wonderful. I think that their board of directors weren't happy with the fact that the game wasn't bringing in any money (although it was an online game in beta). This just shows that projects are being shut down by big companies like EA because they have no idea how the gaming industry works. League of Legends didn't become the most played game in a day. It took years for it to grow where it is now, and EA doesn't have the patience to grow such a big community. They want money and they want it now. This will ultimately be their downfall.
The problem with Andromeda chiefly was the fact that they were pressured way too hard by EA to release the game before effectively final testings for bugs and the like. Majority of the complaints with the graphics and animation issues were fixed with patches with only a few more bugs remaining in the game (such as the big flying remnant bug where you can't take out all of the legs). If they waited at least 6 months or even a year to release the game, it would have done much better is my prediction
Haha dude, just a friendly FYI on the ad: "from scratch" is "from nothing", "with scratch" is closer to saying "using money" than "from the ground up". Totally understandable mistake, but it's funny when you think about it lol
Main reason they suck is because they place a wall between the lower workers and higher management (and even other teams!), pit everyone on the bottom against each other, underpay them, and act like you are "privileged" to work at a video game company so you should shut up and take it!
5:20 It's not really inexplicable, video game graphics rise significantly year-over-year and consumers always want the best graphics. EA never presumes that a single person would ever buy the game more than once, they're just trying to make sure that if you walk into Gamestop you'll pick their game among the other new ones that are competing among eachother.

Profit and net income are basically synonyms
no, net income is given to investors, profits is total money made subtracting bussiness costs, not to be mistaken for EBITDA.

Games cost a lot of money, most of the cost come from making the visuals. With the DLC model the main part of the game can be bought by a lot of people that otherwise couldn't buy it if it cost the full amount. The people able to buy the DLC basically pays for themself and the people not affording the full price of a modern game.
‘At least they haven’t run Battlefront into the ground’...
7:31 DUNE2000, NO, MY HEART IS BLEEDING
7:54 “At least they haven’t wrecked Star Wars Battlefront yet...” Lol oh don’t worry BC, they will... they TOTALLY will.
Congrats on Trending #20!
i was playing nfs underground 2 with my chill time. opened yt and this video just popped up
Guys, just wake up to reality,EA is a marketing company, not a game company anymore.
EA it's in the dlc's
Lol
great detail in the videos. I appreciate this. :)
At least they haven't ruined Star Wars Battlefront yet... I guess EA saw this video and quickly acted to ruin that franchise too.
I'm so glad we have these channels... Quality information in quality videos. Thank you!
"At least they haven't wreckt SW battlefront yet!"
...about that
0:16 That's pretty easy to answer. It finally went downhill, when they became a stock market company. Because at that exact moment, you stop working for your customers and start working for your stock package holders. But I''m interested in what you have to say.
always wanted to be gandalf
My favorite games are Sim City 4 (released in 2004), and Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed (released in 2000). Ever since 2004 I have yet to find an EA game worth my time. I miss the era when Electronic Arts strove to "explore the capabilities of the personal computer". Ever since I have had to search for other studios that deliver such well crafted, and fun products.
do samsung next
nihonium nah fucking apple
The one time I want EA to release DLC they release none. Mirror's Edge Catalyst was supposed to get DLC, but over a year later and there has been no mention of it.
They can better call them self EM, Electronic Money, no arts at all :/
Thanks *BC* for this Very good and knowledgeable video
"At least they didnt wrecked Star Was Battlefront yet" They just did that
I'm disappointed you didn't mention Dawngate in your video.
3:57 ‘Ea sports to the game’ can be heard 😂
Nice touch
Wrong! It's says, "EA Sports: it's in the game."
in fact it is "EA Sports the the game"
*T O T H E G A M E*
Tolga şimşek lol the the game
'EA Sports. Ti Ne Game"
AT LEAST THEY HAVEN'T WRECKED STARWARS BATTLEFRONT YET
lol
7:51 "At least they haven't wrecked Star Wars Battlefront yet". Little did he know....
They ran Dragon Age into the ground as well... origins in the only good one.
"At least they haven't wrecked star wars battlefront yet" Well look at where we are now.Gave me a good chuckle. ^^
UPDATE: EA destroyed StarWars Battlefront 2. They truly are the worst gaming company EVER
"At least they haven't wrecked Star Wars Battlefront yet"
Oh how little did you know Jimmy...
Haven't wrecked Star Wars yet?
Think again.
Wow 4:52 didn't expected anime trap there.
LOL at least they didn't ruin battlefront. This is hilarious knowing that the release has been awful
Haha dude, just a friendly FYI on the ad: "from scratch" is "from nothing", "with scratch" is closer to saying "using money" than "from the ground up". Totally understandable mistake, but it's funny when you think about it lol
EA. Take-Everything.
“At least they didn’t wreck Star Wars battlefront” now they did
The main reasons EA fucking sucks is because they won't release skate 4
nope, the real reason they suck is beacuse they suck use logic
Main reason they suck is because they place a wall between the lower workers and higher management (and even other teams!), pit everyone on the bottom against each other, underpay them, and act like you are "privileged" to work at a video game company so you should shut up and take it!
5:20 It's not really inexplicable, video game graphics rise significantly year-over-year and consumers always want the best graphics. EA never presumes that a single person would ever buy the game more than once, they're just trying to make sure that if you walk into Gamestop you'll pick their game among the other new ones that are competing among eachother.
Ha! Spoke too soon about Star Wars Battlefront!
