Do a roadie reaction from other roadies. Crewish, the Nightwish tech crew are releasing an ep of Nightwish songs. They already have a video out for 'Sleeping Sun'. Nightwish and the record label don't get anything of it. All the income will go to Crewish (the unemployed blacksmiths) as Covid did stop all the bands from touring = no job for techs.

Amorphis is a favourite of mine. They're ridiculously talented, and Tomi Joutsen's voice is the perfect combination of heavy with soaring cleans.
They've had a very interesting change in sound over their existence, and a recommendation you're going to see on a regular basis is "Black Winter Day". This is a fair bit heavier than their current sound, but it is still a beautiful track.
There's a version with Tomi Koivusaari, or Tomi Joutsen, if you want to do an album version before the live. Tales from the Thousand Lakes will be Koivusaari, whereas the live dvd and Tales from the Early Years will be Joutsen.
This was a killer video, and I'm so stoked that you enjoyed them. They've done some amazing stuff, and put on one hell of a show.

I see there's a ton of fans of the new Amorphis out there suggesting quite new songs. So, I'm gonna bring my favorites from the earlier years.
These videos are all live and from the same show, but they're damn good quality if you count that they are really old. So, here we go:
The Castaway: ruclips.net/video/IN35KwIn-9w/видео.html (Maybe my all time favorite Amorphis tune)
Elegy Medley: ruclips.net/video/cfwqcTD_Ac4/видео.html (Misspelled on the video. Medley of maybe the greatest album Amorphis has ever recorded)
Silver Bride: ruclips.net/video/xN-tu1AvAr4/видео.html (Show opener, and the newest song of these four. Still damn awesome tune)
My Kantele: ruclips.net/video/S4hQxU3a3PY/видео.html (Many Amorphis shows close with the song. Beautiful guitars with catchy yet melancholy melody)

Amorphis is in my Top 3 only behind Epica and Nightwish. Love this band and everything they've done since Tomi Joutsen joined the band. He is my favorite metal vocalist. I always love a singer who can do both grows and cleans and do it equally good, live or on the record. Can't wait for you to deep into the rabbit hole with this band. Silver Bride, Amongst Stars, Bad Blood would be my 3 recommendations for the next song.

Guess you're totally hooked on European metal now ey? 😆
My favourite song of Amorphis is Amongst Stars, but secretly that's partly because of the guest singer. And it wasn't just a one of collab, they also played together during their American tour last year. Amongst Stars was also one of the songs of the featured singer her 25 years double concert celebration last year 🤘

Amorphis was one of the bands I graduated to after being a Metallica junkie for years in the 90s. They are one of those bands that, once you get a feel for them, you can hear just a few bars and know who it is. They have a huge back catalog since they've been around forever, and many well-known metal bands from Europe will list them as an influence. In my opinion, they should be a much bigger band but they just never took off as much as others. The line-up changes probably didn't help, especially now being on their third singer, but I definitely enjoy their current singer the most. Since he joined, they've moved back to their heavier style. They've certainly earned the name Amorphis though, going from death metal to a lighter synth-heavy metal in the Elegy years, then to an almost bluesy-rock sound and back to a folk-influenced death metal sound.
For live, I would recommend Majestic Beast or Elegy Medley (mashup of the Elegy album) from the Forging the Land of Thousand Lakes (Oulo) show. The audio quality for this one is the best of all their live shows. For some reason their sound doesn't come across well in a lot of live recordings, even from Wacken, but having been to see them live more than once I can say they certainly do sound great in-person.

I've been watching your videos for a while and you finally came to my territory :D I love Amorphis so much that I've seen them live three times just during 2019, one of them evenwas in Finland, Helsinki, and it was one of the best shows I've seen!
Honestly, Tomi Joutsen is male analogue of Floor Jansen. He is very talented and very skilled singer with huge range of both clean and harsh vocals. He just sings in a genre not famous for their singers, so he's not such a mainstream. Also, since release of this video they changed bass player (or, more precisely, original bass player of the band came back, he's Gibson Thunderbird player).
Death of a King is wonderful song, but IMO, not the best to start Amorphis journey. If you'd like to see all the band skills - you can listen to The Bee from their recent album up to date. If you enjoy faster songs, you can listen to The Daughter of Hate and Amongst Stars (last one features Anneke van Giersbergen, also very good singer). They have lighter, almost MTV caliber songs, like House of Sleep (also, House of Sleep is their most famous song and they play it probably on every show since its release). They have wonderful close-to-be-acoustic songs like Silent Waters from the album with the same title, this one is my personal favourite. And last, but not least, make sure to listen to Black Winter Day and, more importantly, My Kantele. These two songs made a name for this band, and there's a popular opinion that if you'll visit Amorphis concert and they won't play My Kantele - you're going to be sad =|
And as a small suggestion. You had problems finding their live performance - they have Hellfest 2018 Live officially recorded and released on youtube, since it was a show during "Queen of Time" cd support tour, they played mostly songs from latest two albums, but half of the songs I mentioned were played, by the way, including Death of a King. Like I said, it was officially recorded, so sound quality is great (except for having backtrack problem during intro, so they had to restart their show).
I hope you'll listen to this band more, these guys are truly worth it.

  • @Norpal
    @Norpal 3 года назад +7

The band has gone through some wildly different styles over the years, but have always been consistently good. I feel like they *really* blossomed after Tomi Joutsen came aboard though, he's a tremendously good vocalist. And on the last couple albums they've really done some great work at knitting all those different sounds and styles - early death metal heaviness, mid era prog influences, and the beautiful melodies of the "Joutsen-era" - into one cohesive whole.
They're definitely one of those bands that, while I might not count them as one of my personal favourites, I feel like they're objectively speaking one of the best metal bands active today.

I'm so happy to see you check out Amorphis, and even happier that it was this, my favorite song of theirs! Fantastic! :D If you want more Amorphis, I would absolutely have to go with Bad Blood from the same album--very different feel, but I linked this song to a friend once and they bought the album on the basis of that song alone.

Super excited about this reaction. Esa is one of my favorite guitarists all time. That's just my opinion. I know others might not rank him as much as I do but that's ok. I love how they have grown over their long career. They are awesome people too. Super humble. Let's gooo!

Hey Tank, what about Amorphis?! Tomi Joutsen, the singer is a humble family guy from city Lohja, where i lived almost 30 years. I love the stuff they are playing, and your comments are diamond as ever.

Amorphis with Tomi on the vocals is my favorite band. Their old stuff is also really good, but very different. They are super melodic, but heavy when they need to be.

    Hell yesss.
Amorphis is incredible. I've seen them live once with Dark Tranquility and they're fucking amazing live. Check out "The Bee", "Among Stars" (featuring the amazing Anneke), and "Silver Bride" for more goodness.

One of my favourite bands ever. It's their 30th anniversary this year and they've changed a bit over the years, both in sound and band members. Started off death metal and morphed into a more prog sound before getting a bit heavier again. It's all good! Only band I've heard playing what sounds like an electric sitar. For something a little different try their An Evening With Friends At Huvila live recording. Really shows off the beauty of their songs and the singer's rich voice. Another thing - a lot of their tracks are based in Finnish mythology and folk stories. Altogether an awesome band. Oh yes - Marco from Nightwish produced some of their albums and did backing vocals on a few tracks.

Glad to see you've enjoyed this one! Man, I love that guitar solo. This is from an album before the last one. The last one, Queen of Time, came out in 2018 and it's SO GOOD. There is not a mediocre or boring song on that album IMO. I heard some reactors mention it was the best metal album of the year (ofc this is subjective but I don't blame them 😁). It's one of the albums I play in my car over and over 😄😄

What an exceptional song - WOW! What I found really special were the "eastern feelings/influences" in the song.

Nice reaction man! Just to throw a few of my favourite Amorphis tracks into the mix: "Daughter of Hate" from the Queen of Time album is possibly top of the list for me, but you can't go wrong with "The Bee", "The Golden Elk" or "Amongst Stars" from the same album. For a more Celtic vibe, "Tree of Ages" from the same album as "Death of a King", is phenomenal.

  • @articircle

Great reaction! I was this close to buying a tin whistle too when I first saw Eluveitie :) Amorphis is great! They have a song called Amongst Stars that features the amazing Anneke van Giersbergen - she’s been a part of tons of projects over the years, including some of Devin Townsend’s albums.
Or, if you want a different side to the lead singer’s growls could check out the side project/band Tomi Joutsen was part of called Hallatar, especially their song My Mistake. The backstory to Hallatar’s formation is tragic and adds an extra layer of emotion and meaning to all their songs.

They have gotten more folk as time has gone on. Early records are straight death metal. Check out The Smoke their hit from the middle period. This is good example of their current sound. Vocals sound the same live. Nice guys too.

Yes, more please!! Amorphis is super cool to see live so if you get a chance to see them, you must go. I saw them on tour with Dark Tranquility (one of my favorite live bands), Omnium Gatherum and Moonspell and it is still ranked as a best top 5 shows.
    Speaking of which... :)
    Moonspell - Alma Mater
    Omnium Gatherum - The Unknowing
Insomnium - While We Sleep or Heart Like a Grave

One of my favorite bands at the moment! Got a chance to see them live twice so far (once in 2012 with Nightwish, and again in 2018 with Dark Tranquillity, Moonspell and Omnium Gatherum) and I really want to see them again when I can. Their last album "Queen Of Time" was my favorite album of 2018!
Some of my favorite songs of theirs are "Silver Bride", "Battle For Light", "My Kantele (Live - Forging A Land Of A Thousand Lakes)", "Amongst Stars", "The Smoke", and "Under The Red Cloud". But they have so many great songs to discover! They have certainly changed over the years with their different vocalists. I am biased toward the current sound of Amorphis just because i discovered the band after seeing the music video for "The Smoke" on Music Choice: Metal On Demand around the year the album Eclipse (2006) came out and I went out and bought it at a local Borders Store.
Small bit of trivia is alot of their lyrics are themed around stories from The Kalevala, a collection of tales/poems of Finnish mythology about gods and heroes from their culture, which is part of the reason I love their music so much.
