If I was there helping the Prime Minister place that flowers before the tomb. No offense to anyone else, however I would of bowed back to show my gratitude. This is where all nations need to take a stand and rise to understand the importance of not just saying "Thank you" but how to show it and bestow it unto another. Great job soldiers and some warriors. Thank you for sharing something very few could be at. My Grandfather would be proud.

@@JK-dv3qeExactly this tomb is meant to honor fallen American soldiers who fought bravely for their country and their families. It is especially meant to honor those remains of American soldiers who haven’t been identified. This is meant to honor the millions of Americans who have served their country in times of war when America needed them the most. It isn’t the military’s fault if the civilians don’t leave the area of war. You can’t blame the military for civilian casualties even though it’s sad but they have zero knowledge of civilians staying in places of war during bombings or invasions. The one thing we can control is not bombing or using missiles on Civilian Buildings like Hospitals, Schools, Police Stations, Fire Stations, Subways, Airports, and other important civilian areas that the military doesn’t use. So I say how dare you mention civilians causalities when the Japanese navy caused civilian casualties at Pearl Harbor.

I was a proud member of the US Coast Guard Band around 1974-75. We trained in the same barracks with the Color Gaurd and the Honor Gaurd - "Oscar" Company. The amount of training and disciple involved is unimaginable to the average person. Those are real rifles, M1 carbines, 14 pounds with fixed bayonets. Those white gloves are cotton, very slippery handling the heavy rifles. One day in training an honor guardsman had his rifle with bayonet slip through his hand and cut it wide open. This stuff is not childs play.

Always get a lump watching the Honor Guards. I was in The Old Guard in 1972 (Charlie Guard). We did a Battalion full-honor arrival for General of the Army Omar Bradley at the Pentagon. Spaced out across the steps somewhat like this but at double-interval, we were at Present Arms as the General made his way up. He was about 80 then and a little slow, so he stopped along the way to speak to some of us. Suddenly he stopped in front of me and spoke; I responded and he moved on. Later after we withdrew, guys asked me what he said. But I didn't know - those 5 stars on each shoulder in a little pentagon shape had me dumbfounded. The guys beside me didn't hear it either, but said I answered "Yes Sir" so at least I didn't embarrass myself too bad. Just hope it fit the question!!

Despite the horrific losses in life and property, one good thing to emerge from WW2 was to have Japan and US allied to the US. One could not ask for a more powerful alliance in history.

I was in the US Coast Guard Honor Guard back in the 90s.. These we called "bottom jobs" because we are at the bottom. On Memorial Day wreath layings we called those "top jobs" because we were next to the tomb. So either bottom or top jobs at the tomb. We had to be at least 6'2 and in good shape. I am assuming it is basically the same now.

The United States honors it’s war dead and those who died after their service, and irregardless of what side they fought on. There is graves from the Confederate Army located in their own section of Arlington Cemetery. A few years ago British soldier’s remains were found from a battlefield from the War of 1812, the body was handled with dignity and a honor guard from the UK took it back to England.

Thank you VERY much, the US Honor Guard Units. I request Kishida (or any Prime Ministers) openly and officially do the same at Yasukuni Shrine (it is Japanese version of the Arlington National Cemetery). Shut out any outside noises from China and Korea, opposing it. We must respect those who served the country, regardless. 🎌
