    drinks not to have:
    no cold drinks - affects muscles by not letting them be as agile and free for producing sound and singing. it can hurt your voice too.
    acidic drinks - soda, coffee, fruit drinks, sports drink, etc. these can cause acid reflux which can cause the vocal chords to swell and be irritated, making singing difficult and possibly painful.
    milk based drinks - can also cause acid reflux. it creates a coat on your voice and messes with mucous production.
    caffeinated drinks - dehydrates you.
    alcoholic drinks - also dehydrated you and is usually cold. a lot of them are carbonated which makes you gassy... which won’t be fun whilst singing (drink responsibly)
    you can do all of these after you’re done on stage or performing but never before because it may mess you up!
    hope i saved you time! but also feel free to watch the video for some details i could’ve left out

      @Bloep Bep yes in the case of Broadway singers or show singers I’m sure that when they are working for a musical they eliminate those things for months I’m sure when they’re free they indulge a bit . But they absolutely have to take care of their voice that includes diet (for reflux), sinus es and throat .

    Interesting to hear about the Gatorade! For me, it works really well, as it hydrates me quicker than water! A doctor told me once, "Clear pee, clear singing" So I always used to have a bottle of room temperature Gatorade, and personally it really helped me! I do agree that it does make you burp a lot!! hahah Btw great channel!! Love your content!!!

    • @singgeek
      @singgeek  5 лет назад +9

      Hi FxMx3, Thanks for adding to the conversation. This is a really good point. In my understanding the electrolytes in Gatorade helps you hydrate faster and this is beneficial for your voice as well as the whole body. If you do not experience acid reflux with Gatorade, and you find that it is actually something that benefits your singing, then that's awesome. Different things work for different people and I think the most important point is to be aware of how your body reacts and go from there :)

      I honestly could whistle before. Not until i forced my voice too much that i damaged my vocals. Its sad to think cause it takes time for my voice to heal or maybe it wont heal. But you know what? Its okay for me even if its sad sometimes you know. Having a good voice doesnt mean you should know how to do the whistle. I'm just sharing my story hehehe
      So about yours, try to avoid clearing you throat. I know it mat be annoying but its true! I forgot the explanation of it but u can look it up the net! And also, drink hot tea. Lemon tea is the best for me. It soothes my voice. Hope i helped! 😊

    Milk and all are not required to be avoided forever but just the time around your performance or important rehearsals right? (Not including alcohol or soda, just talking about basic drinks)

    Can I drink chilled drinks when I’m not performing or singing or should I try my best to avoid it all together

    • @singgeek
      @singgeek  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, Great question. Yes you can drink chilled water when you are not performing. It is the cooling down of the vocal muscles in connection with the increased activity of the voice when singing that makes chilled drinks bad for your voice. So, if you e.g. wake up in the morning and drink a chilled glass of water and then perform later in the evening you are also safe :)

    I saw someone in the comments basically ban all drinks (kinda like the video lol) but seriously there are certain things completely unavoidable.
    The main things to stray away from are cold drinks because it can tighten the muscles in your throat and vocal cords (you can have your lovely icey pop from time to time, but warm drinks are better), direct dairy drinks which over produce mucus and causes flem that is a weight and slight irritant to your voice, alcohol because it is over acidic and caffeinated drinks.
    You can have your sports and energy drinks and sodas, acid reflux happens for a variety of different reasons but it is not constant (if it is that is a sign of allergies or a medical problem) so that shouldn't be a reason to cut them out.
    And finally you don't necessarily have to stop drinking these things all together. Just drink them in moderation and take a drought from them a day or few before a performance, and drink warm and healing liquids. None of this "only luke warm water" nonsense lol

    Just a word on citrus fruits though, they are quite alkalizing, except maybe for those who find that they react to them adversely. Anyway I only have them in room temperature water in the morning. Combined with a dairy free diet, I find that they really keep the mucus away, or at least in check. Its room temperature water or herbal teas all the way, all the day.

    Hello! Thank you for all your videos, especially the ones about soft palate! In the upcoming videos, if you have time, would you mind explaining how come some times our voices "crack" (for me, it's usually the higher notes or around my 2nd passagio)? what's going on, and how to prevent that? Many thanks!

    • @singgeek
      @singgeek  5 лет назад

      Hi roshan ravi, Thanks for your question. Unless you drink decaffeinated black tea, the caffeine in black tea can dehydrate you and affect the agility in your voice.
