    I’m not sure who put Chanel on a pedestal in the first place… maybe Chanel’s marketing department?! Social media makes it appear as if Houses have a rank that goes 1. Hermès, 2. Chanel, 3. LV. 4. All the rest - but this was never the case prior to 2010. True, Hermès was exclusive and rarely seen except on celebrities and wealthy, older women but generally it didn’t matter if you carried LV, Chanel, Givenchy, Fendi, Celine, YSL - they were all the same and we loved them equally. Chanel was quite dressy and formal with the CF usually worn by older clientele who had nicer places to go, I still marvel at its appeal to the younger crowd. There are sooo many wonderful houses to explore so I am happy to see less of this House.

      💯 ! I think it’s our own fault when we put something on a pedestal. Like I said in the video, I put Chanel on a pedestal myself and now I’m taking them down from there. 😂 I fell in love with the brand back in the early 2000s and bought my first pieces then. That’s when it all began for me. BUT to be clear, I also put Gucci on a pedestal back then. So I guess what I’m saying is, we do it to ourselves!

    I am almost at my wits’ end with Chanel! As someone who has to drive 6 hours to my nearest boutique, I rely heavily on my SA to make remote purchases. And I’m just baffled that they now don’t allow classic bags to be shipped out. It just doesn’t make sense.
    Also, regarding quality issues. I got a caviar top handle mini from 21S and it had SEVEN skipped/missed stitches on the bag! I immediately sent it back to have them repair it. As much as I didn’t want to settle, I really wanted and loved this bag & it’s such a unicorn so I had no other choice but have it repaired instead of returning. That bag has been at the repair center (who knows where) since April 2021. I have never even had the chance to use it even once. AND it’s still there!! It’s been over a year, yet they keep pushing back the date they will ship it back. Chanel has been such a turn off lately. 😢💔

    You've just quantified what we've all suspected for years!! THIS is why the pre-loved, vintage market is so strong. People are refusing to pay $8000 for crappy craftsmanship. Pre-loved, vintage = 24K plating, precise stitching, premium hardware and immaculate linings. You can send them to a 'spa' to be refurbished for a lot less than new retail and have a gorgeous, quality bag to last you for another generation.

    • @heidiheidi0
      @heidiheidi0 2 года назад +10

      A lot of these vintage or "preloved" bags are tired though and they are selling them at the same price as buying new from the boutique. It isnt worth it either. The 24k hardware is worn off on a lot of those bags too. It is hard to find a good one and when you do, it is priced like new. When I see a lady carrying something with flat quilting, I know it is vintage or preloved and because just doesnt look as good as the new ones. It just looks old and tired. Even though they paid thousands of dollars for it.

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  2 года назад +8

      @@heidiheidi0 I think some people prefer the flattened vintage quilting but if you don’t, there are plenty of preloved Chanel bags with puffier quilting priced well below current retail prices. I personally love the look of newer “puffier” classic flaps but then again, I would choose a beautiful well-made vintage over a crooked new bag with missing stitches any day! 😂 See one of the comments below - someone got a new bag with 7 missing stitches and it has been with Chanel repair for over a year and she still hasn’t gotten her bag back. 🙈

I know it's crazy but I really loved it and it was an amazing special gift for a special occasion. As long as the demand is so high CHANEL will continue behaving this way because they can. I decided that I will not buy any other Chanel bags from the store but I will buy vintage. By the way the second hand market is also crazy... the prices... I was just watching Sasa Zoe's video the other day and I feel so bad for her. Being a long time Chanel collector myself it's sad to see what people have been experiencing recently with the quality issues. I also frequent on The Purse Forum and have seen people having rusty hardware on their brand new classic flaps asking for advice on how to clean them. That shouldn't be a burden on the consumers when Chanel should've tighten up their QC so no faulty bag get put on the shelves for purchase. I am fortunate to have an angel SA who treats me so well, always looking out for me and won't sell me anything in less than perfect condition, but I've also seen people having horrible shopping experience at their local boutiques where they've been ignored or shoo away by the SA's. To be fair though, customer service isn't the best at Hermes either, finding the SA can really make or break your relationship with this particular brand. I've been ghosted by a Hermes SA before after spending a pretty amount in one transaction, but also been offered special order by another SA from the same boutique which I'm forever grateful for. At this rate I probably won't be looking to purchase any classic bags from Chanel, the most recent purchase was the heart belt bag but I just treat it as a novelty/collector piece rather than something made of exceptional quality. 😂 I guess it's easier for people like us who've gotten the classic bags at a much lower price point to say we're done with Chanel for now, but people who missed the opportunity sadly will just have to deal with the hefty price tag and quality issues for their dream bags. The prelove/resell market is getting ridiculous as well where consumers aren't saving much or anything at all so it may still best to just buy from the boutique.

Low retention will result in even worse customer service. It sounds like they have a terrible company culture, on top of all the other problems). Like you said no acknowledgment for the purchasing, no attention to details and I was able to return/store credit for one of the bags that I bought becuz the defect was so obvious and the alignment was terrible! Now I got my third and definitely my last one which is a Coco handle bag, I live in a city that we dont have a Chanel boutique so I have to rely on pictures and my SA (which is the worst way of shopping from Chanel!), there are several issues with the bag and as soon as I mentioned them like you said they were called “normal”, and I got called too picky! I am spending $7200 of course I am gonna be picky!! And I know this is not a problem but this bag is exactly the same colour of the Boy bag that she sent me months ago! I specifically asked her if they are the same and she got mad and said of course not, but here is the new one and they are the same color!! I had lovely experiences with Dior, not even comparable with Chanel, I wish Chanel SAs would learn how to behave talk smile walk breath!!! From Dior SAs! While I like some of the classic styles, I don't have the bank account for real Chanel or LV. I do have some 'LV Dupes' and 'Amazon versions' of Chanel but I've been loving my Coach bags... I got my first one in 2020, I got the Mollie, she was a gift to myself for surviving ankle surgery & recovery, and from there the addiction was born... lol. With regards to the microchip...that is not easy to counterfeit. It is more the card that is easier. The card is plastic and the tag can be added in easily. The microchip is also more convenient as you dont have to carry around a plastic card everywhere and lose track of them. I feel like Chanel is trying to stop these resellers who are making money off of their brand. Not giving the authencity card is one way to do it. They are trying to be like Hermes because Hermes is careful not to oversaturate the market, not because Chanel is not original enough. They want people to buy the bags to USE them, not because they want to use it for a little while with a protective organiser and try to flip it for the same price they bought it. In my opinion, it is the price increases without customer selectivity that is hurting them. They need to be more selective with who they sell the classic flaps too and more generous with sales of other items. This will severely limit the amount of classic flaps on the resell market.

    • @hellocatwalkcity
      @hellocatwalkcity  2 года назад

      To be clear, I said the bags with chips are harder to authenticate (not that they’re easier to counterfeit). Subtle but significant difference. Many of the authenticators are saying that the newer counterfeit bags are done so well that they can’t authenticate them easily. That’s the point I was making in the video.

    We are allowed to be super picky when it comes to paying a fortune for our luxury items. I heard something that I don't know if it is true or not: luxury brands are not as fussy with the items sent to the States as most American women don't pay close attention to the quality of the items they purchase. I don't recall where I heard this, and I have no idea if it's true. But I will say that during one of my trips to Paris many many years ago, I was in. . .I forget which luxury brand store, the boutique was filled with Japanese women who sat at tables inspecting their potential purchases. This stuck with me, and then I began paying closer attention to my purchases. During my recent trip to Paris, I made a purchase in Chanel Rue Cambon. The SA seemed a bit surprised when I inspected the bag. I asked to see another, just to be sure my bag was well-finished. The second one had issues with stitches not lining up as they should. The SA seemed unaffected by this, and gave me a look as if I were being too picky. All this to say that we should be more concerned about the quality of the items we buy. We should not accept mediocrity, especially in the luxury and semi-luxury market. This goes for clothing as well. I sew a little, and when purchasing ready to wear I check seams and linings, etc. Quite often I am disappointed with the lack of attention to well-stitched seams or fabric not cut along the grain, which means that when I wash an item, it will twist, throwing the side seams off. Enough of my rant.😅

    Quality issues aside, the price increases, wait lists, micro chips make me think what many others have pointed out by now: selling less at higher prices to fewer people might be the goal (pricing out the middle class). If Chanel doesn’t want to be seen all over the suburbs, maybe this is the way to go 🤷🏼‍♀️😉.
    Regarding the microchips: is this a way to reduce preloved sales? Maybe I’m ignorant and wrong, but if the only way to check if a bag is truly authentic is to have Chanel itself authenticate, then that would probably reduce second hand sales and people’s trust in getting the real thing on the preloved market.

    Goodness! I’ve been turned off by the PI the most out of all these things. It’s really disappointing when we’re spending this much and have to decide between living with some flaws (however minor to others) or not having the bag at all. I briefly owned the same 21P Brown Rectangle Mini, but ended up selling it, because the chain kept twisting or kinking in at least 2-3 places and there were some spots + a couple of slight dents in the Lambskin. I am also happy to have a heart bag, but it does have a slight dent/line on the front flap 🙈 silver lining: I guess I don’t have to worry about getting many new bags in the future thanks to the new quota system 😂

    I've not bought anything directly from chanel before (my only chanel piece is a pre-loved re-issue which I bought last year) but as someone who has been shopping at hermes for a while I feel like the main difference between the two is that hermes' policies (like the quota bag system) are driven primarily by quality concerns. They won't increase supply or expand production because they are that concerned about losing control over quality. Chanel, on the other hand, are probably a lot more profit driven and focused on maintaining the exclusivity of the brand - hence the massive price increases and the quota system. However, they may have just lost sight of the fact that quality is likely what drives hype and exclusivity in the long run.

With the 2 bag per year limit it just creates more traffic to the preloved sites and with higher demand the preloved prices will continue to increase and over retail price because of the high demands.
    If I am able to find a preloved one at a decent price that I’m willing to pay which series for woc and classic double flaps would you recommend that has good quality and consistency in the making of the bag?

    Really i cant really imagine that the SA said that is normal for the stitching to come off and air bubble in the handbag. Oh my...you are not picky. I would return that too. How can one accept those and the handbag cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Oh man....crazy. The SA is just plain LAZY. No...now they have 5 years warranty since last year. I got my 19 and my SA had told me that. But if the quality is tip top they do not need to increased their warranty period. I guess they knew about this. Yes, my first SA is lousy too. But this 2nd one is just so so but better than the first one. I totally agree with all your sharing and Hope the Chanel big guys are watching if they ever care. Frankly if Hermes is easily attainable, many would have switch to Hermes. Ok, the handbag is totally different and i agreed but with that now Chanel almost the same price, i will go for quality for sure and if i want something near Chanel, i will go for YSL. Another mistake that Chanel made is to stop producing Caviar. I was told the lambskin color will fade off especially for the classic but i do not have the classic in lambskin to really know that. Also i believed they are talking about those that has been around for many many years that is now showing.

    I feel there are a few things to blame for this.
    1. Covid partly contributed to some quality issues with supply chain problems.
    2. Counterfeit market expanding which increases the prices of the authentic bags
    3. The Asian market (I say this as an Asian myself) which seems to have a toxic and unhealthy obsession with putting Chanel on some pedestal which lets it get away with increasing its price and lowering quality while still maintaining demand.
    All of the above contributed to people somehow justifying spending thousands on an essentially factory made bag.
