Chanel's quality issues started going down hill more than a decade ago. Chanel is not what it used to be. Luxury brands are laughing all the way to the bank with the consumer stupidity.
Unfortunately, as long as designers keep getting away with it and clients keep buying their pieces for ever increasing prices, I don't see the quality getting better anytime soon.
Your so right. I personally can afford a Chanel bag. I have leather longchamp and a 1500 coach bag. But my collection is mostly longchamp. I just purchased this white backpack with fluorescent green logo I just love it.. for my vacation I got the cardi bs sneakers 👟. Hey I’m 60 I still could rock out😂 don’t get me wrong I would love a Chanel bag. But Travel and enjoy life
So many people are saying there not buying Chanel anymore. 😟 It’s sad but they have some quality control issues but no problem increasing their prices.
I don’t think it’s okay to accept any flaws on high luxury brands... I have had issues with the puffiness of the quilts for my rectangular mini in the past and still kept it anyway because of how cute it was, and I regretted it greatly. Luckily I sold, but I will never do that again. Not sure if it’s just seasonal bags, but I did notice the classic flaps are in better quality than the minis / seasonals, since the Clair beige I got recently was in pristine condition, while the mini was lopsided (shape of the bag body and the flap) 🙁💔
Hmm I’m not sure. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put more effort into making the bags that cost significantly more. The issue with the bag being lopsided seems so common too. I just don’t get it...🤦🏻♀️
For that price, I’d expect perfection! Yes, things may on a rare occasion wrongly pass through quality control but from what lots of people are saying, it feels far too common. Mulberry bags also have the interwoven chain and I’ve not come across any issues on those 😊 Thank you for sharing!
Glad you returned it! In addition to the quality, I'm finding the service is getting worse and the bags are never in stock. Its to the point where its no longer a luxury experience so I prefer to spend my money elsewhere.
Yeah it’s impossible to find anything in stock now. I would’ve tried to exchange it if it was an option but my SA said it was the last one in the country. Luckily I’ve always had good service and the return policy is good in the US otherwise I would be completely done shopping at Chanel.
I know they are trying to make their products more exclusive, but I am getting annoyed that consumers have to constantly be on a waitlist or chase SAs to buy an item. Not everyone buys Chanel bags and clothes on a monthly basis to be a VIP status to finally get in stock items first. I am not a fan of the whole Hermes game either.
I totally agree and would add that I believe (from experience) there seems to be a quality control issue with many Luxury Handbag Brands as of late. As I was going back and forth studying the thread issues on your bag I thought i would ad two theories... 1.) This bag may have been a display and moved across a surface or surfaces numerous times which caused the fray issues on those particular areas. 2.) As someone who used to sew yrs ago, the quality of the thread used in the stitching may not be up to par. I have had friends complain about fray issues on brand new spools of thread they recently purchased. For all the pricing increases I would want my bag stitched with the highest quality and strongest thread possible. For me that would be silk.
I agree - Chanel is not the only brand that has been showing quality issues. I’ve noticed it with LV, Dior, and YSL personally. It’s quite disappointing. From your theories, I think the second one is probably more likely. Based on the photos my SA sent me it looked like they barely unwrapped the bag so I don’t think it was on display. And the fraying was all over the bag, not limited to the parts that would rub against surfaces. I was only able to get my camera to focus on the fraying by the corners and edges though. It’s interesting hearing your perspective about the thread - I would’ve never expected a brand like Chanel to skimp on the quality of the thread they use. How much money can they even save by using cheap quality thread? 🤦🏻♀️
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Yes, and these aren't just handbags, they are truly investment pieces! Since it is obvious your bag was not a display from what you stated, I can only assume this is an issue with thread quality! Would be interesting to know where Chanel sources the thread from. I doubt we will though. Aside from returning the bag to Chanel, I personally would be following up with a letter to the person at the very top. I'm sure whoever that is would be interested in hearing from you regarding the issues with your handbag. Too often they never get to hear directly from customers regarding issues because it is handled at a different level, I wish you All The Best and hope you are able to get a bag of such quality that lives up to the Chanel name.
Thank you for sharing. These are some major quality issues to be aware of and it's not the first time that I've heard about them. It is so unfortunate, because of the market being what it is people simply don't care. I will not now or ever pay $6,000 or more for a mini flap!!! The fact that fashionphile is constantly marking up the prices to almost double is astounding to me and the fact that people are paying for flawed products at exorbitant and unnecessary prices is even more shocking.. I think you did the right thing by returning it. Gorgeous color but horrible quality. The chain issue alone is worth the return.
Same - I would never pay that much for a mini. At that price I’d rather get a small or medium from the boutique instead. And you are right that people don’t care...I posted a photo of this bag on my Instagram with the caption saying specifically that there was quality issues, but someone still asked me if I was selling it 😧
I could see all the issue you pointed out on through the camera so they must be super obvious! And you're right... Chanel doesn't care because someone will buy it or they might even buy it and sell to Fashionphile to sell at a crazy mark up!
I know it’s insane how marked up the prices are. Minis on Fashionphile are over $6000 brand new. For that price, you might as well get a small or medium from the store 🤦🏻♀️
Omg I had the fraying thread on my square mini. I couldn’t find much info on purse forum so I wasn’t sure if it’s an issue. I still returned it and now I’m glad I did
Yeah I hadn’t heard anyone mention that either until posting this video. A few of you guys have commented saying you experienced the fraying issue too. I’m disappointed but can’t exactly say I am shocked 😞
I’ve heard the super fakes have better quality versus the legitimate bag. I have been looking at purchasing a Chanel bag for a year. Waiting for one I love but this is the third video I have seen about quality issues.
I think it’s still possible to find one that doesn’t have any issues. If it’s something you truly want, maybe still give it a shot if the return policy is good. Hope it works out for you 😊
When I bought my classic flap, it was one of the most exciting times ever. I ordered it from a luxury department store, so I didn’t see it in person. When I received it by mail, I found two small flaws. The leather of the chain was peeling in a small spot, and the metal part of the chain in another area was not aligned correctly. I was extremely disappointed. I thought about returning it, but except for those two small imperfections, the bag came with all the wrapping paper, plastic on hardware and was otherwise perfect. None of my other bags had that. I was able to fix the misaligned chains, and eventually decided to keep it. The ordering process was a complete headache (long story), and I had no guarantee that the replacement would be better with all the stories we hear. Add to that the crazy price increases if I keep waiting for a flawless bag. All that made me decide to keep it. I would always advise to inspect before you buy if you can, and thoroughly consider your options when it comes to waiting, returns and things like that to make an informed decision. Also, decide if you are ok with minor flaws especially that with Chanel it’s often , “last piece available”. Trust me, almost no one will notice those small things when you are carrying your bag, so decide if it will bother you, otherwise enjoy it!
You make some excellent points! Ultimately everyone has different opinions of what they think is acceptable. I try not to look too closely at my items to find the tiniest imperfections because I can almost guarantee that I would be able to find something even if it’s from Hermes.
Went to Chanel store here in HK and fell in love with a classic WOC same color like what Carol has (Light blue/tiffany blue). Upon inspection, I found so many flaws on the leather chain, stitches and badly scuffs on the bottom of the bag. Even the SA was embarrassed after I pointed them to her. I am so disappointed with the current quality of CHANEL that I ended up buying pre loved vintage in the end.
I recently went tried a CF medium in beige - I was very excited to try it until I saw some stains in the front of the bag. The SA said “is just some glue” (inside my mind is like wowww this bag cost over 6K and there is some glue residue! ). I also felt that the strap was very light - the older CF straps were more heavy duty. This new bag felt cheap to me.
I noticed the strap felt light on the mini too. I thought that was just because it was the mini...I didn’t know the strap on the double flaps got lighter too. The glue residue is a pretty easy fix but I wonder if that’s what it really was since you said it looked like a stain.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I’m not sure but I wasn’t there to buy the M/L CF - prices have gone ridiculously high. I’m in the waitlist for the Coco handle new small size - I haven’t been able to see it in person (the price on this one is still acceptable!)
Which color are you on the waitlist for? I have my eyes on the light pink for 21A but I have no idea what the exact color will look like since there’s no photos.
Hello. I’ve done some research for you. I wrote to “Leather surgeons”, a place where you can get your high end chanel purses, fixed, spa, repaired etc and this is what they said……….”Hi, This is just the thread fraying from wear-- it can be trimmed or burned off, but I really wouldn't worry about it unless you were having some other service done. It sort of just comes with the territory! Thanks, Hunter I know, this is old news for you now. But you should keep the bag if you love the color for future bags you purchase. The chain was another issue. But anyways. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Thanks for looking into it! This is very helpful. It’s good to know that it’s not at risk of turning into a huge problem but I’m shocked that a brand new bag straight from the boutique could be showing wear so soon.
Same thing happened to me. Just a few uses and the corners got peeled off… it was 3 months old, but Chanel said it was under “normal wear and tear”…. Warranty didn’t covered it.
I think they moved some of their production to cheaper labour countries - like China (where the focus would be mass production rather than quality). It's not acknowledged, but how else can the quality be so low?? I would assume in Italy, France, Spain they would hire only the best of the best but maybe they started producing much more but the quality is suffering
If it was just a recent thing, I would give them a pass because of covid but it seems like it’s been going on for a while. I’ll admit the illusion of luxury was shattered for me when I learned that a product only has to be finished in France in order it to have the Made In France label and other aspects of production can happen elsewhere.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Oh wow I didn't know that - thats like cheating. We never get the whole truth, just sold a fantasy. Chanel has been around for decades so people believe in the brand, but honestly hiking up the prices for subpar quality is a no-no. If the quality improved, I'd understand the prices but they can't be justified with all the recent revelations of bad work done on their part.
I think returning the mini flap was a good idea. The fraying thread and twisted strap are definitely defects because none of my Chanel bags have those issues, and I have amassed a pretty sizable collection over the years. I'm sure there will be another sky blue mini flap in SHW in the future since it's a color that's been released fairly often!
I totally agree with you on literally everything lol. It’s so easy to get hyped up and accept flaws just to have a bag. I haven’t bought anything from Chanel in sooo long bc it’s not my aesthetic right now. I only have a black caviar shw jumbo classic flap and a black caviar shw WOC. They are still literally perfect.. even the WOC I abused in my early 20’s looks amazing. Never ever any quality issues and even working at Neiman’s that had a boutique and there was never any whispers of quality issues. This was a little over 10 years ago. I think my WOC was only $1200 USD. 😫🤯😭So sad to see quality declining as prices continue to increase.
The bag is so pretty but I noticed the bulging side right away and I am not terrible observant. The flaws would probably bother you every time you used it, so better to get a bag you will use and love.
I'm so sorry the mini didn't work out for you but I would've returned it too. The frayed stitches are definitely a no no. I have the same pink card holder as you and there's tiny black dots on mine as well. Apparently this is a common issue on recent lambskin pieces which sucks because Chanel slgs aren't cheap. Tbh I haven't had much luck with their slgs in general. My other classic card holder has a crooked cc which I didn't notice until later.
Wouah!! Chanel should hire you as their Quality Service supervisor. I am very details oriented, but you take the cake! I agree 100% with you! I would have definitely exchanged it for another bag and if it’s out of stocks, I’ll get my money back!!! The lambskin not being as buttery as it used too, would have bothered me sooo much..... You did the right thing!!! Thank you for sharing with us.
Ohh one of my bags have fraying threads too. 😑 It was from 20C collection. But I kept it cuz I already used it that time cuz I didn’t notice it when I unboxed it. I only noticed the fraying threads when I got home after using it. I called my SA but because I love the color too so I just kept it. 😕
People are thrilled to possess these items because it' CHANEL and a lot of fortunate people that want to own it for the reputation and priceness but they are not like the old generations of customers that were more awknowledged to luxury and had a certain " style and values in life "....Raising the price bags for making sure only the wealthiest can own it and to flatter the one who would buy it too...it's purely marketing and now even they have adapted their taste to their new customers and do not care of the quality.. They will buy plenty of new items after all and can still show off " look at me i'm precious and successful having chanel ," 😂😂 luxury became cheap because of the business selling that are worlwide and extremely beneficial ...
WE NEED TO STOP BUYING FROM THEM!!! They need to respect the clients and better the quality... same with Louis Vuitton. Salvatore ferragamo has great quality, YSL, BVLGARI has AAAAAHHHHMMMAAAZZZZIIIING quality, prefer to spend 3-4 there than at Chanel. Apparently Dior and Fendi have really good quality, but I haven’t checked them out in person to know. I got a Chanel camelia lambskin o-pouch or card holder, I don’t remember tbh... but it had a bunch of threads that where loose and the stitches where pulling/stretching on the leather...
Oh gosh! I have the same issue with my chanel rec mini regarding the chain links. When one gets twisted, i will end up fixing it until it reaches the end. Even when i just lay it on flat surface, the links will be twisted and its a never ending cycle. I was so upset and confused at that time on what i should do. Glad that i returned it and requested with a new one.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Luckily, I dont have the same issues now but sometimes one link will get twisted but not to a point of fixing it until it reaches the other end. 😅 My SA even told me that most of the mini rec have those issues and she tried to pacify me so i will not request for a replacement, one of the SA told me that maybe i have an OCD. 😣
The chain on my mini does that too but when the SA took the bag out for me to see she untwisted it and showed me how to do it! 😏 Didnt realise that would be considered a defect! 😔
I think the chain issue is an issue with all their mini flaps, I’m contemplating returning an iridescent mini with that same chain issue and twisted leather on the inside of the bag. They limit their quantities so much that we are considering keeping defective bags!!!
Twisted leather? This is the first time I’ve heard of that issue and I don’t even understand how that could’ve passed quality control. If you’re not happy with the bag, it’s probably best to return it…it’s just not worth it at these high prices 😞
Great video! I'm struggling whether to keep a medium classic flap GHW caviar. It is so hard to get. I have two issues.First, the chain doesn't slide through the grommets unless the bag is open .(The SA said that would improve with time but I don't recall that issue when I got my jumbo in 2017) .Second issue is the quality inside flap. It feels flimsy when compared to my jumbo. Also, when I cup my hand around the flap to the back of the bag (which does not show), the leather feels loose - not taut. This is also not true of my jumbo. I went back to the store and they had the bag in another color, and it had the same issues with the flap. So I"m thinking the quality has declined.I"m hanging on to the bag until my return period ends - and waiting to see if a new one comes in. The worst part is that if the price goes up tomorrow and I exchanged the bag, the manager said I'd have to pay the higher price! I think that is insane.
Sorry the bag wasn’t perfect 😞 It sucks you can’t even exchange it without paying the new price. With a valid reason they really should allow it. Chances are they’re going to turn around and sell the one you bring back for the higher price anyways. Regarding the chain not sliding through the grommets, one of my medium classic flaps is like that too and it’s also from 2017.
OMG, never seen these kinds of fuzz on the stitching before. I have two lambskin minis. My first a black one is pristine, used and abused it a lot. Still looks brand new. I got a light pink one in 2018....well the quilting is flat, the sides are uneven like your's¨. The lambskin is also much duller than my other one. Looks cheap, same with the strap. The metal is so much lighter i weight....I think the quality drops and the prices increase. :(
Hi Carol. I have a 21P mini square in black. It does have a bit of bulging on one side, but after using and stuffing it properly, its a bit more even now, honestly I think its just the nature of the leather on a very small bag. I also had a minor issue on the chain, but after working it out a bit and stretching the chain out, it happens less and less. I ak still very much happy with my bag. I do not have the fraying issue as yours do, so that part if it bothers you then yes, returning it was a good decision. Hope you find a better one😊
About the chain and straps, you can twist a little bit and they could be smooth again! It's the dynamics of the design I guess? Not a quality problem. Totally agree on the rest... they should have done better...
I have the same bag in neon pink, it has the exact same defects, including the part where the leather loses its shape and sticks out!! pwr how long is the chain, compared to the other minis the piece of leather that makes up the chain is thinner! I'm also very disappointed.. it has aged very badly
My dupe bag doesn't even have those problems with fraying or dents it's not real chanel but the price I paid and the quality of the make of it , I'm glad I got it!!!
on your neon blue bag, ive noticed it a lot on my bags too. But i dont think its the thread fraying. I do think it's picking up fibres from the dust bag. Have u tried pulling on them? Thats what i do! And it's not part of the stitching.
I tried that very carefully but it didn’t come off. Plus the fuzz was the color of the thread rather than white like the felt they wrap around it/the inside of the dust bag 😞
Yeah I was not expecting that whatsoever. I had asked my SA to send me photos of the front and back to make sure the flap was straight and the back pocket was centered so I thought it was good to go. How wrong I was.
I buy Chanel 19 small bag it’s $5,100 which is 10% increased just last November 2021 and after 2 weeks 😭 I figured it out that it’s so sensitive 😭 I just used it 2x for my birthday party and date with my husband, I’ll been so careful but it has 4 small scratches already 😭 sell it, And I just sold for 3,146.02 usd 💔
omg, I got this same light blue mini rectangular, and the thread were fuzzy like that, it got more and more.... I got panic and returned it. The news is Italian bags during 2021,22 and 23 made in Italy used cheap fuzzy threads on Chanel bags. It is silk fuzz. It will settle down after years of using, I have heard. Even with the brown ones that are highly sought, there were all stitched with the fuzzy threads :-)
omg god I swear you bought this from Fashionphile, I got panic and returned this bag, the loop around the chain got badly twisted, it was shipped that way to me and I returned it :-), the twist will never get better. The brown color one I needed keeping has no issues with the loop. The person that looped the leather into the chain did a poor job. Sorry you got the bad I had, I believe.
Wow I never knew that about the thread from the made in Italy bags. I’ll have to check all my bags to see where they were made. Interestingly enough I had the medium classic flap in the brown that I think you’re talking about but the thread was perfectly fine on that. But this light blue one was all fuzzy from the very start even though I purchased it straight from the boutique. Clearly something was very wrong with that whole batch of thread.
I thought it was just me overthinking it too! I had fraying issues on my neon blue coin purse and you could definitely tell the lamb skin was not as smooth compared to what it “should be”. Also, I’m not sure if anyone else has this issue, but my coin purse does not extend out as much, which makes it a little harder to take out/put in cards.
Let’s just start shopping at Hermès 🍊 Quality is over the top! Not even comparable to Chanel. I was a HUGE CC lover! But after a couple failed purchases I just was so upset and disappointed that I am saving just a bit more and get an 🍊
I'm sorry to hear this didn't work out for you but you did the right thing to return it because it would just play on your mind. You may not find the exact same colour again but I am sure there will be another colour or something similar that will catch your eye in the future. When I bought my first Chanel, a black caviar WOC, I was so excited that I didn't noticed popped/loose stitches on the back pocket. It was only after using it a few times, I can feel that it's not smooth when I run my hands down the pocket when I noticed it! I suppose I could get it repaired but then we went into lockdown and there was no way of going to the boutique.
I tried on a very coveted rose gold mini from 21s in store a few weeks back and I didn’t buy it because the chain had a similar issue, and the leather on it, while gorgeous to look at, didn’t feel like real leather and one edge near the flap was starting to rub. Sad about these quality issues. :(
I think the quality really varies. I got the caramel small flap and to be honest the front is not perfect. Like one part does dip a bit lower. But I love the colour and usually I’m not studying it when I wear it so I accepted it. 😅 I’m lucky to not have a bag with freckles, which apparently happened for this season.
There’s such a wide array of quality issues to look out for nowadays. You would think that for a luxury bag you wouldn’t have to inspect it so carefully...
I had the same issue with a pink chanel 19 card holder ..had to send it for repair. I’m waiting to see what they did. Mine was two weeks old before it developed black marks on the CC
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately same issue with my 21S mini rectangular with twisted chain. Mine also have crample line in front, unfortunately can’t return coz I bought it at a personal shopper & she imported from Hongkong. You’re right if I can compare with my other Chanel bags recent Chanel bags have slightly deteriorated their quality. 😩
I feel like for the overhyped pieces Chanel doesn’t care as much because a large number of customers will buy it anyway. I looked at. WOC in the boutique a while ago and it had a very obvious scratch on the leather flap. Like super apparent. I pointed this out to the SA and she said something like “it’s the last one someone will buy it”. Not me.. The white medium flap I got was perfect and the 19 bag. Once I notice a major flaw I can’t unsee it and then I don’t want the bag. I don’t get people paying 6-7K for minis on fashionphile. For that price I can have a medium brand new from the store!
Thanks for another great informative video Carol! I agree with you that the hype is driving the designers to pump out their bags , poor quality and all. The problem is when they cost almost 10k for a bag, there shouldn’t be a quality issue. They should keep high standards to enforce the high asking price. At this point I probably won’t ever buy a new Chanel. I’d rather invest my money in a higher quality pre-loved Chanel item.
They really shouldn’t be sacrificing quality for quantity. I keep buying Chanel because I like the styles they produce, but if I get unlucky a few more times with these defects, I’m not going to bother anymore.
Super helpful video! The bag should be perfect for the price we are paying.. I had been waiting for a year to finally score a rectangular from last year, thank god it was fine, however the chain was also twisted. Could live with that because I wanted the bag sooo bad. When comparing with my moms vintage from 20 years ago… the quality has decreased in so many years unfortunately :(. Still love the brand tho
Yeah I think I can live with the chain being twisted if that’s the only issue. I’m shocked at how many of you guys have commented saying you’ve experienced the same problem with the chain.
As long as people keep buying theirs bags why should they change anything ? It’s up to us to teach them a lesson buy stopping buying their cheap bags ( I mean in terms of quality). Take care.
I’m done with the big fashion houses from Chanel hardware issues, Louis Vuitton stitching, and YSL imperfections. I’m done!! I’ll carry my current collection of bags to death and sell them when I’m finish with them.
I bought a small coco handle bag from the 22p collection. After 1 wore it once, the corners just peeled. The chanel boutique said that they can’t do anything about it since I wore it once. It is just 1 week old. They can only paint the corners and it will take months to get it done. Never buying a chanel bag again. Even non luxury bags will have better quality.
I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’ve heard coco handles are known to show wear on the corners easily but for that to happen after just one use is absolutely ridiculous 😠
I bought a wallet on chain TODAY.... and my chain kinks every couple is minutes. I used to have a used wallet on chain before I sold it, and the chain was a gorgeous quality, and never kinked.
Hello.. that’s funny that you show that neon blue mini rectangular on FASHIONPHILE, because that’s my bag. I sold it to them like 2 weeks ago.. lol I honestly wish I would have looked it over better before I sent it off to them, because I don’t remember if mine had the same issue with the threads as yours did. But yeah the price, is insane isn’t it!? But it makes sense.. I almost had a heart attack when my quote came back. They gave me WAY over the retail price I paid for it, so I was more than happy to sell it to them 😂😂😁
Omg! I just received my 22p mini square and I have the same exact chain issues. It is in 3 diff spots! The bag and stitching is fine but the chain just looks like what you showed. I knew something was off because I don’t have any chain issues in my woc which I bought in 2018. I am still within the 14 days return period and plan to get a refund or exchange it, but given the limited stock now, I am most likely not gonna get another one. But heck, I will not settle when this bag costs $4000+. I showed others photos and they also agreed it looks awful.
Aww sorry that happened to your bag 😞 I would also not keep it either if I were you. Something just as pretty if not even nicer will come along. I’m curious to know which color did you get?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I just got the classic black with ghw. Course I can return and wait for another one , but hard to justify to buy it with another price increase.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Just wanted to drop by to let you know that I went into the boutique to have an SA look at it. He was able to fix it within 15 seconds. So it's not a defect. Just need to twist the part on the chain the opposite way and then it stayed that way. So if you're still bothered by that kink or twisted part on your chain, have an SA fix it for you if you're concerned about twisting it yourself! :)
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yah i returned a coco handle bag at south coast cause the bag they gave me does not have sticker in hard ware and and tags are not attached. my blue bag does get tangled but i was wondering if thats normal cause this is my 2nd chanel bag. my other chanel mini the chains are good and str8 and doesnt tangle
Hi! So I wanted that bag so bad but was unable to get in the mini size. I got it in the medium and it’s perfect. I also got a mini in the periwinkle blue and have the same issue with the chain. Maybe it’s a thing on the minis?
It does seem to be more common with the minis. I get that it’s significantly cheaper than the small and medium but still the quality shouldn’t be an afterthought. How are you liking the medium? I’m thinking of trying to track one down but not sure if it’s too bright of a color for a bigger bag.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I’m loving it… it does not seem too loud at all… and I’m pretty conservative with my wardrobe but have recently come to enjoy a little pop of color in my handbags.
I have never liked Chanel even after buying their bags. Just because everyone thinks this is one of the most luxurious brands, it's really not. Sold every chanel piece I have and I don't miss them at all.
I have some items (2.55 bag, caviar large travel wallet and small purse) for +10 years but i do not like current quality. Most of the items look cheap or even fake. Totally unacceptable for the prices their asking
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Yes! I was actually surprised that you were able to get a refund because when I purchased my WOC back in 2018, they wouldn't let me get a refund; only store credit. I was considering the Chanel boy bag, medium flap and Chanel 19.. at this point, given the prices, I'm not sure I'll buy any of them..
I think it might depend on where you’re based whether you can get a refund or not. And yes the prices are so crazy, especially the 19. I just recently decided I wanted one and I wish I had gotten one when it was first released.
I noticed the fraying on the silver mini top handle as well. It looked like an old used bag with all that fraying. Passed on it. Later I bought mini black handle with no fraying issues.
Omgosh that’s ridiculous 🤦🏻♀️ I think it ended up working out better for you because I think the black looks nicer than the silver. Honestly when I did this video I thought people were going to think I was looking for excuses to return it but it looks like the fraying is not a one off issue.
That’s a possibility that my SA mentioned but I didn’t want to have paid for the bag and not be able to use it for however many months it takes them to potentially repair it...plus it’s not guaranteed they can even do it and by that point it would be way past the return period. I didn’t want to risk it.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. This type of video will drive people to buy vintage bags and increase the demand of vintage bags. Thank goodness, I don’t like vintage bags due to musky smell. I have GST and Single Flap jumbo the straps twisted time to time. Just a nature of chain or hang the bag for some time, it will fix the problem. Or return the bag if you are not happy. Or better yet, stop buying Chanel or LV. These are luxuries and not necessities.
Yes, it will. Watch Vivienne Connolly’s new video. She did the same thing I like I did. She just got a mini SQ caramel 21P. Beautiful. I have a small classic flap in black from 20A collection, which the chain is perfect. My black mini 21S has similar shape sides like yours, I use insert to fix the problem. Now the both sides look the same. Like the side you don’t like. lol. Sadly, that is how it should be because of lambskin. With caviar leather, you don’t have this problem because the leather is more structure. I just need a medium flap for this year and I will be done with Chanel. Move on to the next best thing. lol
Hi there so sorry to hear the beautiful mini turned out that way. But just wanted to share I used to have bulges on the sides of my mini before. Then I was alerted to someone on IG who “trained” the leather into shape by tying a ribbon over a few days. It really worked!
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC no. But I heard that Leather Surgeons can fix the issue for a small fee. I know, it’s ridiculous! If it was any other Chanel bag, I’d return it. This particular color is so special, there’s no way it’s leaving me😁
When i went to buy my classic caviar medium in black i was shown the small in lamb and it was already scratched up and this bag WAS NOT RETURNED!!!!! It was just hanging out in the boutique. This bag is close to 8k after taxes granted lamb is delicate but come on man. Also nope my classic has no issues.
Yeah the display pieces are questionable sometimes. Some of the bigger boutiques have a set just for people to try on and those are pretty beat up. Good to know you got one with no issues 😊
Why should Chanel change their behavior when people keep buying defective bags? Or keeping it because they love the color? We the consumer must take a stand and not continue to accept these defective bags!!! Fraying is an issue....hopefully you can stop accepting these defective bags. It’s your hard earn money 💰
Unfortunately there will always be people who are willing to overlook all these defects 😞 Such a shame because I really love Chanel aside from these quality issues.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yes the SA told me about the twisting the chains back when I bought it and she said it’s not an issue. I didn’t realise what she was trying to say until I start to use it. I have to twist it back before Cross bodying the bag but after that usually it stays okay until I remove it from my shoulder after use. I have to twist it back before storing it. Not really a big issue for me but just irritates me having to pay attention to the chains. I wonder if this happens only to lamb skin as my the leather is softer, my classic medium and coco handle are caviar with no chain issue as it is stiffer.
Wow I’m surprised your SA mentioned that to you. I don’t think it has to do with lambskin specifically. My medium classic flap is also lambskin and it’s perfectly fine. I think it might be because the leather is not wide enough (cutting costs maybe?) or it’s not woven tightly enough through the chain 🤔
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC hmm 🤔 should be due to thinner leather strap then. If this is the case, it will happen for all minis going forward. It’s sad as mini is so nice to use and cheaper options. But I do like the ‘thicker’ lambskin, feels not as prone to scratches as the previous version. Not sure though as my other bags are caviar..
I have not noticed a chain issue on either of my classic flaps, but they are 2014 and 2016 so I haven’t bought a classic flap from more recent collections
The last time I bought a Chanel bag prior to this one was back in 2017 and the difference in quality is so apparent. Unfortunately a lot of what I want from Chanel now wasn’t even out yet back then (mini with handle, extra mini coco handle) so it’s either buy it and hope for the best or not try at all.
I bought a pair off Chanel sunglasses last month and the quality was shocking... the serial number on the inside arm was lop sided and the cc logo on the glasses was made of some really cheap crap to a point where I thought it was a sticker.. really shocked at the poor quality
The fraying of the thread is not acceptable at all! I bought a vintage chanel from the 90s and the threads were fraying coz it is an OLD used bag, Leather Surgeon was able to apply heat to un-fray the threads. But your bag is BRAND NEW!! That’s totally unacceptable at that price point. I stopped buying Chanel a long time ago; I actually don’t understand why ppl still buy when the quality went down so much yet the price kept skyrocketing…if you ever touch a vintage bag from the 90s or 00s you would be able to tell how they cut cost - thinner leather, lighter and flimsier hardware, no leather lining in seasonal bags.
Haha I ask myself that question sometimes 🙈 I think that solely based on design, I like Chanel the most and that’s why I still want to buy their stuff. But I might change my mind if I run into any more issues in the future. I’m curious what the process of fixing the fraying is like. Applying heat to such exact spots sounds like it can be a disaster although I’m sure they know what they’re doing.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I don’t know HOW leather surgeon applied heat on the thread. He only told me that heat can stop the fraying. The thread on my bag is not frayed anymore. I like chanel aesthetic too, I’ve been buying their stuff since 2004. But at a certain point I had to stop because I ran into too many disappointments with their quality. Luxury shopping should be worry free and I shouldn’t be the one having to do their quality control. Try look into vintage Chanel. Much better quality, lower price point, there are many that are in extremely good condition especially those in the Japanese resale market.
Thanks for sharing. I have bought a Chanel bag that had one flaw on it but it was a minor one that can be overlooked as the bag was in dark navy which is less obvious to the eyes.
well, the whole point of luxury is perfected detail, so its very important to care for those small things you'd have no right to complain about with the cheaper stuff
Hi Carol. OMG i bought the same neon blue mini classic bag last month and i found the quality issues same as what u mentioned... But i really like the color and sliver hardware:)
Omgosh that’s crazy! Did you end up keeping yours? I agree the shade of blue combined with the silver hardware is so perfect. I wish I didn’t have to return it.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC i decide to keep it coz the color looks so gorgeous and i really really love this color. BTW i love your videos so much and I'm looking forward to your next video. I'm a big fan of you from HK.:)
For the current Chanel prices, the bag better be in PRISTINE condition!
Exactly! Sadly it’s not the case 😞
I agree, there shouldn’t be any issues for the price. My Chanel flap doesn’t have any of these issues or I would have returned too.
That’s not how it is on life lol. Come on
Chanel's quality issues started going down hill more than a decade ago. Chanel is not what it used to be. Luxury brands are laughing all the way to the bank with the consumer stupidity.
Unfortunately, as long as designers keep getting away with it and clients keep buying their pieces for ever increasing prices, I don't see the quality getting better anytime soon.
I agree. I myself am guilty of doing that sometimes.
Great point! Why bother to change.. when people keep buying defective products
Totally agree. They are business after all so as long as they can command the prices, they will continue to deteriorate in quality! ☹️
But Travel and enjoy life
@@gladyslugo7272 love it! Have a great weekend dear 💕
This is why I don't buy Chanel bags anymore. The quality doesn't match up with the price.
Mulberry bags also have the interwoven chain and I’ve not come across any issues on those 😊
Thank you for sharing!
Now they’re trying to be like Hermès by making lists l- 🤔
I know they are trying to make their products more exclusive, but I am getting annoyed that consumers have to constantly be on a waitlist or chase SAs to buy an item. Not everyone buys Chanel bags and clothes on a monthly basis to be a VIP status to finally get in stock items first. I am not a fan of the whole Hermes game either.
Many just have to admit: Chanel is not what it used to be and the outrageous prices make quality issues even more glaring and unacceptable.
I totally agree and would add that I believe (from experience) there seems to be a quality control issue
with many Luxury Handbag Brands as of late.
As I was going back and forth studying the thread issues on your bag I thought i would ad two theories...
1.) This bag may have been a display and moved across a surface or surfaces numerous times
which caused the fray issues on those particular areas.
2.) As someone who used to sew yrs ago, the quality of the thread used in the stitching may not
be up to par. I have had friends complain about fray issues on brand new spools of thread they
recently purchased.
Aside from returning the bag to Chanel, I personally would be following up with a letter to the person
at the very top. I'm sure whoever that is would be interested in hearing from you regarding the issues
with your handbag. Too often they never get to hear directly from customers regarding issues because
it is handled at a different level,
I wish you All The Best and hope you are able to get a bag of such quality that lives up to the Chanel name.
Hope it works out for you 😊
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC i think you have to go into the store and inspect your bags and not leave it to chance.
for those prices, there should be no flaws. you did the right thing, because the flaws will always be in the back of your mind.
So true. I didn't sleep for 2 days when I saw my chanel bag flaws
Chanel , Chanel!! The quality issues are not acceptable with the prices their charging! It’s so disappointing!
I heard they will often sell seconds or Poorer quality products online/in countries other than France.
Aww sorry you had such a bad experience 😞 What vintage bag did you end up getting?
I have noticed too. The Quality have been down for a while a go already but Recently so so obvious that shocking me! Thanks for sharing.
Exactly. It doesn’t even have anything to do with being picky, the flaws are just so obvious! 😞
I definitely appreciate this video. It’s important to know the good and the bad - especially at these high prices.
Exactly! Glad you liked the video ❤️
Hello. I’ve done some research for you. I wrote to “Leather surgeons”, a place where you can get your high end chanel purses, fixed, spa, repaired etc and this is what they said……….”Hi,
This is just the thread fraying from wear-- it can be trimmed or burned off, but I really wouldn't worry about it unless you were having some other service done. It sort of just comes with the territory!
Thanks,
Hunter
I know, this is old news for you now.
I have to say for the prices that Chanel are now charging, their bags should be PERFECT!
I absolutely agree!
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Also, their prices are slowly creeping up to Hermes prices which is crazy!
YES!!!!!
Studyinh the supply chain and you are right when you said they are made in China. European are not into the labor side.
Yeah I’m hoping something similar comes out soon 🤞🏻
Hello! Those thread are are NO NO. It looks like they’re using a cheap cotton thread versus a nylon thread. Great informative video!
I never knew that there was such a thing as bad quality thread until this incident. You learn something new everyday lol
Omgosh it costs over double that now 😧 The least they could do is maintain the quality...
The bag is so pretty but I noticed the bulging side right away and I am not terrible observant. The flaws would probably bother you every time you used it, so better to get a bag you will use and love.
Yeah I noticed that immediately too. Such a shame because that issue at least I think could’ve been easily avoided.
i noticed the bulging side too. did u buy this online or in the physical store?
It came from a boutique but I bought it remotely from my SA.
I’ve heard the same thing too. It’s such a shame because I prefer lambskin to the other materials Chanel uses.
LOL if that was the case there might not be anything on the shelves for them to sell judging by the complaints I’ve heard 🤣
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC 😂🤣🤣🤣😂 true!!!
Omgosh this was an issue as far back as 20C? I can’t believe how many of you guys also had the same issue 😞
Surprisingly I haven’t had the best luck with YSL and Dior even through everyone says the quality is great at those brands.
Your black lamb skin CF is so pretty. She still has that beautiful sheen/shy on the leather.
Yeah the leather still feels and smells amazing too 😆😍
That’s exactly how I felt! I assume your new one doesn’t have that issue now?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC Luckily, I dont have the same issues now but sometimes one link will get twisted but not to a point of fixing it until it reaches the other end. 😅 My SA even told me that most of the mini rec have those issues and she tried to pacify me so i will not request for a replacement, one of the SA told me that maybe i have an OCD. 😣
Most have that issue?! Wow that’s not reassuring at all.
The chain on my mini does that too but when the SA took the bag out for me to see she untwisted it and showed me how to do it! 😏 Didnt realise that would be considered a defect! 😔
I’m surprised so many people have said they have the same issue...it’s basically become the norm 😞
Gosh that is so annoying about the pale blue bag. I would definitely sell it / return it. It will drive you mad!
Ahh yes I noticed the lighter chains too but I wasn’t sure if it was because it was the mini vs the double flaps.
Ahh good to know the quality issues on yours are getting better over time.
Girll your taste in bag colors especially chanel bags is SO my style. Gorgeous collection. 😍
Thanks! 😄
About the chain and straps, you can twist a little bit and they could be smooth again! It's the dynamics of the design I guess? Not a quality problem. Totally agree on the rest... they should have done better...
My issue with it is that it happens nonstop. I haven’t seen it happen to any other chains from Chanel, only this one ☹️
I'm glad you were able to return it! It's so sad that despite how much you paid for it, the number of issues was too much :(
Yeah I was not expecting that whatsoever.
I’m so happy I got to this video. I’m planning on buying one channel bag this is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
omg, I got this same light blue mini rectangular, and the thread were fuzzy like that, it got more and more....
Hmm unfortunately I’m not sure either since it’s my first coin purse so I have nothing to compare it to.
Let’s just start shopping at Hermès 🍊 Quality is over the top! Not even comparable to Chanel. I was a HUGE CC lover! But after a couple failed purchases I just was so upset and disappointed that I am saving just a bit more and get an 🍊
The sad part is I just prefer the bag styles at Chanel much more 😞
I'm sorry to hear this didn't work out for you but you did the right thing to return it because it would just play on your mind.
Oh no sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get it repaired once things go back to normal.
This is value info. It's gonna help so many people 🥰🤗💜
That’s too bad Chanel bag looks like a fake one crazy how the quality is declining
The fraying of the stitching will bother me. It may weaken over time
I tried on a very coveted rose gold mini from 21s in store a few weeks back and I didn’t buy it because the chain had a similar issue, and the leather on it, while gorgeous to look at, didn’t feel like real leather and one edge near the flap was starting to rub. Sad about these quality issues. :(
The wear on metallic bags is definitely a big concern too. It seems the list of quality issues is never ending 😞
Oh no! Hopefully they can fix it for you.
Ahh it sucks that you can’t return it. Did you buy it for a very high premium?
Yeah it really sucks, yes 25% premium coz my SA can’t get it.
😧 That’s unfortunate. Sorry to hear that.
The resale prices for minis are so outrageous. I can’t believe people actually buy them at that price 😧
I’m shocked at how many of you guys have commented saying you’ve experienced the same problem with the chain.
oh no, I went to see my card holder (bought in Italy last month) and also saw the uneven length on the side... Now I can't unsee it!
Oh no 😞 but don’t let it stop you from enjoying your card holder especially if you bought it on vacation.
As long as people keep buying theirs bags why should they change anything ? It’s up to us to teach them a lesson buy stopping buying their cheap bags ( I mean in terms of quality). Take care.
I think you should return the blue Chanel bag. You are not happy 🥺. You will for sure find another bag you love.
My thoughts exactly!
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yeah I am heartbroken. I expected better. 😞
I bought a wallet on chain TODAY.... and my chain kinks every couple is minutes. I used to have a used wallet on chain before I sold it, and the chain was a gorgeous quality, and never kinked.
That’s so upsetting! Sorry you have to deal with this. Contrary to what some people say, this is absolutely not normal 😞
Hello.. that’s funny that you show that neon blue mini rectangular on FASHIONPHILE, because that’s my bag. I sold it to them like 2 weeks ago.. lol
I honestly wish I would have looked it over better before I sent it off to them, because I don’t remember if mine had the same issue with the threads as yours did. But yeah the price, is insane isn’t it!? But it makes sense.. I almost had a heart attack when my quote came back. They gave me WAY over the retail price I paid for it, so I was more than happy to sell it to them 😂😂😁
LOL I was tempted to get a quote from them for the bag too but I was nearing the end of the return period.
may i ask how much the quote they offered you? do they give good quotes for chanel bag?
I agree. I’m hoping I get my hands on a mini rectangular before the next price increase too.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC and hope no issues either. I found out a lot of ppl had same issues in recent yrs.
what chanel boutique did you get that bag? cause i got mine same color from rodeo drive
South Coast Plaza. Does yours have the same issues?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yah i returned a coco handle bag at south coast cause the bag they gave me does not have sticker in hard ware and and tags are not attached. my blue bag does get tangled but i was wondering if thats normal cause this is my 2nd chanel bag. my other chanel mini the chains are good and str8 and doesnt tangle
Seems like it varies from bag to bag these days...I personally don’t think it’s normal.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC i think there major quality issues going on
Wow, with such issues it is worther than a fake one... You are absolutely right to noticed such issues!
I’m attracted to Chanel for the ladylike style but I don’t like everything they produce. We all have different tastes and that’s perfectly normal 😄
That's there marketing plan. Even if their products are damaged they know people will buy. You can go for Dior or Celine.
I have some items (2.55 bag, caviar large travel wallet and small purse) for +10 years but i do not like current quality. Most of the items look cheap or even fake. Totally unacceptable for the prices their asking
I agree - it’s a hit or miss lately and lacks consistency 🙁
The color was stunning but you did the right thing by returning it. I mean for a 4K bag, it better be in pristine condition.
That’s exactly what I thought. At least I have the card case in the same color 😅
I'm in the market for a new luxury handbag and honestly, the Chanel quality issues are so disturbing. I'm really not purchasing it anymore. 😤
Their new policies aren’t helping either. What bags are you considering?
O man I would be so annoyed ! Especially how expensive everything is
Can’t you bring it back to have to fixed? I thought they do repairs and since it’s a new piece I believe they can change the strap for you.
I don’t think hanging the bag will fix the issue.
Move on to the next best thing. lol
So sad to hear this , I think Chanel is not like Chanel after Kharl’s death. I personally felt like it’s just empty shell now.
I feel like it’s missing some of that extravagant flair.
Karl*
Hi there so sorry to hear the beautiful mini turned out that way. But just wanted to share I used to have bulges on the sides of my mini before. Then I was alerted to someone on IG who “trained” the leather into shape by tying a ribbon over a few days. It really worked!
Ahh that’s really clever! Thanks for the tip 😊
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC can I also ask if your M/L black classic flap has a crease at the back from opening and closing
It’s barely noticeable when it’s closed but when it’s open then yes there’s a crease. I think it’s inevitable with how the bag is designed.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC thanks. Enjoying your channel 👍
I bought the mini rectangular in 21p caramel. It came with the chain issue. Because of the color however, I am keeping it.🤷🏻♀️
Has it gotten better over time?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC no. But I heard that Leather Surgeons can fix the issue for a small fee. I know, it’s ridiculous! If it was any other Chanel bag, I’d return it. This particular color is so special, there’s no way it’s leaving me😁
When people stop buying they'll either go back to their original quality or lower the prices. I buy Tory Burch. Her outlet bags / wallets are gorgeous
Maybe ask to see if you can exchange it? That’s a bit unacceptable tbh.. my Ali express bag has less fraying than that Chanel!
I asked but it was sold out 😞
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC :( huuuu sowwie
Silver hardware is my favorite! Beautiful bag! The quality issues are unfortunate considering the prices they are charging now!
Yeah I’m always on the lookout for silver hardware but it doesn’t seem to be that popular. I wonder why...
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC idk it’s so pretty 🥰
I stoped shopping at Chanel. I am thinking about selling all my Chanel bags and SLG. Chanel ia no longer desirable to me
I just bought a mini flap earlier this year and I have the same problem as you on the twisting chain. Have to twist it back if I see it 😅
Does it happen often for yours?
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC it’s such a shame it is like this now..
I bought a pair off Chanel sunglasses last month and the quality was shocking... the serial number on the inside arm was lop sided and the cc logo on the glasses was made of some really cheap crap to a point where I thought it was a sticker.. really shocked at the poor quality
That’s such a shame. The cost to produce sunglasses is so low so they can definitely afford to improve the quality and still profit tons.
I’ve been looking into the Diana bag recently. Haven’t decided if I want to consider it more seriously yet, but it’s a stunning bag! 😄
that purple cf is stunning!
Thanks for sharing. I have bought a Chanel bag that had one flaw on it but it was a minor one that can be overlooked as the bag was in dark navy which is less obvious to the eyes.
Small flaws I can overlook too but when they start piling up that’s a huge red flag 🙅🏻♀️
well, the whole point of luxury is perfected detail, so its very important to care for those small things you'd have no right to complain about with the cheaper stuff
Absolutely! It’s even worse when something at a lower price point is better quality than something “luxury”.
Me i asked for a refund for the big blue bag. My only problem with it is the chain
Agree. They are cheapening their jewelry.
I am moving towards just staying with Hermès.
I have the same blue chanel and the stitching in it is so frizzy
I kept it because I love the color and it was my second time trying to get this specific bag
Oh wow I thought it was a one off issue with the one I got but I guess not 😞
