- The BMW X5 is a big selling large premium SUV. It rivals the Mercedes GLE, the Audi Q7 and the Range Rover Sport. The BMW X5 is available with a range of powerful engines including a twin turbo in the M version. Diesels are the most popular in the UK though, and a new plug-in hybrid version the X5, called the 40e, has been added to the range to deliver strong performance but with lower running costs than the other petrol engines. This is the model our reviewer Mat Watson is testing here. However, this review is for the whole X5 range. And you can watch our individual videos of the car's practicality and infotainment systems. My dad owns a BMW X5 from 2018 and we all love it
Been riding around in a 2016 X5 M Sport the past couple days. Definitely has some significant tire roar on the 20" wheels. Cabin quality is great, seats are pretty comfy and infinitely adjustable, and the 16 speaker Harmon Kardon system is phenomenal. It's pretty fast too, had no problem passing lol

Cool review, I do think you're a bit harsh on the dashboard design though. You're right, don't bother with the hybrid, go straight to the 3.0 turbo diesel

I've got a used 2018 bmw x5, best deal of my life for 38k. I've never had any problems. Pretty good car I must say
£38,000 for a used 2018 X5 M Sport sounds a little steep! I have the same (2018) with the 30d xDrive engine. I'm assuming you bought yours with low mileage and maybe the 40d or 50d engine?
@ieatworkable 2018 m sport 3.0 every extra 45k on the clock from BMW 32k.. shocking service from stratstone but it was a very cheap car

No it is reliable the reports of anything is very low and I have a 2014 X5 F15 35i and nothing absolutely nothing happened yet a few oil changes and gas money that's it completely honest too.
Great video Matt. On an interesting side, I do love the design of the interior of the X5 where it is very minimalist with a Scandinavian tone. For me, it is the best interior out of its rival (GLE, RX, and Q7). Anyway, everyone has their own opinions.

always fun to watch.. the other annoying feature with BMW cars "I've got one" is that you need to press the "P" button on the center console every time you need the park sensor to work, annoying as i use it every day when i pull into the garage, other German rivals have it on permanently and you turn it off in those rare occasions when you don't need i.e car wash etc.
Interior is awesome on these.. although do note that if you’ve got the 7 seater you can slide the base and adjust the backrest on the rear seats

The BMW interior is exactly what I like about it. Simplicity, practicality and somewhat luxury, so stop calling it "a bit dated"! Also, the BMW gear lever is the most beautiful in the market! When it is about taste, just leave it to individuals to decide for themselves!

I like how the boot door doesn't beep or wait a few seconds before opening or closing it just gets on with it
I got news for you, fog lights do not illuminate 300 meters away. that is the job for high beam.
The interior is definitely better than the one in the merc. I absolutely love it. The colour in that one is boring. Go for a saddle brown and ivory white color combo with high-gloss wood trim and you'll see how beautiful the X5 interior is.
Man the x5 has started it all , I'm BMW fan today because of the original e53 , and the brand new 2019 4th gen spy shots looks disappointing , doesn't look buff and strong also the new one looses the famous rear side window it will be like the x3s rear side window just sad 😔

I love the channel and the reviews. I have an X5 and have been told by a BMW main dealer workshop controller of 26 years of experience that the X5 eats tyres. It's due to the suspension set up. The rear tyres wear on the extreme inner edges and can go down to the canvas but the rest of the tyre has 4 to 5 mm left on it. Similarly the fronts wear on the extreme outer edges. Guess what BMW UK deny all knowledge of this. I spent £700 on a set of rear tyres. Not very happy.
Very true, does your car also have the staggered set up? I feel that affects it too. I was interested in the x5 with the m body kit but the tyres seem expensive
Now is probably the best time to buy a demo or dealer used X5 before it gets facelifted in late 2019 or early 2020, its so cheap compared to the similar models and you can sell it right before the new model come out and save money.
I think its a typo bc that car is a 2015 model registered between late 2014 and early 2015 hence the 65

I don't like the black grills at the bottom of where the headlights are makes it look cheap and basic for a hybrid model..
With smaller wheels and the sunroof shade closed, the X5 is one of the quietest in the class according to other reviewers.
I'd love it if you make review of the new Ford Escape (Kuga in Europe). It looks very cool!

i always love the X5 but that fog lamp position is just weird, why not integrate it with that large lower grille on the bumper?
Love to rent one of these SUVs one day in Australia.
The new 2018 X5 should have a more updated cabin as it will be an all new car. However, the new 5 series was revealed this week and it's cabin is not a radical departure from this X5's. Just BMW styling I guess.

Two things that " seem " to be odd about X5 models and that is the diesel rattle. Many are driven in my country and at idle these engines make me wonder if the cost of the car is justified by superb insulation. It really makes a racket. Secondly, the sheer size of the tires! It looks even more grotesque on the X6. The basis for the tire size is??? Looks? Gives the feeling of a design a child would do for his impression of a "powerful monster car". They however appear quite popular so I'd hate to think it's because the Joneses' own one.
Even if I had the money I would buy the 2011 model it's amazing

This car is solely made with import taxes in mind
You’re only paying tax for the 2L petrol engine instead of a S6
But getting this gets you S6 power, better economy and lower maintenance costs
The 2L diesel has emission taxes which costs 30Million LKR, 30d and 35i for their sizes cost 45million LKR+
The PHEV on the other hand costs just under 30million LKR, relative Value isn’t it.
You can get used ones now in during the pandemic (when imports are stopped temporarily) for 19+ million LKR which is one damn deal here

I think I'm the only one that prefers touchscreen infotainment systems to the iDrive. It's really a hassle to enter addresses with the wheel even with handwriting recognition.
We find iDrive much easier to use on the move - but we've yet to find a handwriting recognition system that doesn't make your writing look like that of a toddler who's had too much Red Bull
I'm having trouble with navigating the menus and entering addresses on my BMW because it's difficult to remember where all the shortcut keys are. I have a Volvo with a touchscreen/button system that's much easier to use when on the move. But to each his own I guess.

As always, thank you once again to Matt for delivering another excellent review and very nice timing on the release of this video. Recently, BMW Malaysia has introduced this exact model which costs way lesser than the normal x5 due to Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) incentives. My dad is dying to get one however my sister is extremely put off by its styling. Will it's Driving dynamics win over the other faults of the vehicle? We also currently own an Evoque, how does that compare to the X5?
The x5 hybrid is shocking and no one buys it, only a idiot would the Q7 Etron is not much more then the normal one and it gets 140mpg where as this has a claimed mpg of something like 50

After searching for weeks, I finally found it, placed the order and it came right to my door, I looked at it , drove it and did a few checks, and I was sold…. Fast Forward 4 weeks. My brakes jamming, had to pay £400 to replace the stuff under…. OhI forgot , the driver side under panel flew off the highway an I have started noticing chips on the window… wowow, what did I buy...

Volvo XC90 T8 plug in hybrid. Faster, more powerful, more electric range, better fuel economy, 7 seats, bigger boot, individually adjustable middle row and a reversing camera as standard kit. Plus it is cheaper and better looking.

Not flashy like a merc in there but still very lovely and handsome. You'd be more likely to find a hard plastic in the merc.

Huh, I was confused why he was playing some album called X5, I started thinking that BMW even wrote songs dedicated to the X5 haha. A really nice car, I prefer the X6 though.
