What about doing a satin vinyl charcoal over a grey Tesla and then going over the bra area with a PPF over the top? Can that be done? I don't want rock chips on the front. I live in the mountains and they sand the roads and it is bad. My first model Y I got a chip about every 2 weeks.
The PPF we install has a 10 year warranty. Vinyl doesn’t have one. Both can damage paint when removing but it isn’t too often that it happens, they’re both just a pain to remove when they get old.
Can you put ppf protection film over a 3m black carbon fibre wrap on the hood only ✌️👍🇨🇦 thanks plus I have the hood ceramic pro coating on hood now Does it have to be removed before applying the wrap
What about vinyl wrap then wrap it PPF. The reason I say because if car is outside and exposed to element's is this the only way to make the vinyl wrap last instead of the sun making it fade?
Ive been asking around for info on the difference and the things you said is exactly what i wanted to hear and understand better ! thank you so much for a very clear explanation !
I really appreciate you taking the time to make this and your crew and explaining this. Defiantly informative information. I just got a 2024 Performance Y and my friend recommended the PPF. It must be something new. I was going to Vinyl route. Super helpful video!
I never comment RUclips videos but honestly you did a fine job of explaining the difference in the not too long video but just enough professional speak well did a good job man clean video good image good sound yeah nice
Great video! Have a grey model 3 on order and want to change it to a satin finish. Was really being thrown for a loop on what the real differences were between vinyl and PPF stealth. This video makes it much clearer!
My shop removed the door handles and anything that prevented XPEL Stealth PPF from wrapping around all edges and panels. My car has zero edges with PPF.
The vinyl is going to probably be a little cheaper unless you want to do door jambs and other areas to completely hide the paint, but the ppf has the self healing properties.
I would take your advice on Vinyl. How many gold options and pink options? Is the silver mirror wrap legal? What do you think of the diamond/ rhinestone look, are those vinyl?
We can pretty much get any Gold or Pink you'd like. The Chrome style wraps are pretty much illegal because they can blind and distract other drivers. Just like you can't drive with underglow on or have too bright of headlights. We haven't done anything in diamond/rhinestone yet.
I learned today that there is a thing called a stealth finish paint protection film, I'm going to have to research more about that, my number 1 question is, how does it clean and dry? are water spots an issue or rub marks from uneven drying with a cloth/towel? Thanks for making this video.
It cleans well! Much easier to take care off than matte paint or vinyl in our opinion. It self heals like normal ppf as well. No rub marks, no issues with water spotting.
From personal experience I did the mistake and bought Satin black vinyl the thickest one and i bought it for protection, guess what, after a week on high way behind other cars who split small rocks, my front had rock chips already and the entire small area had a hole in the vinyl, that's the down side, it looks amazing but bad for protection. Another down side of vinyl, I unwrapped my entire car and the paint came off with it :D no joke, had to repaint my car. Regret it a bit for the same price of the vinyl and paint job i could buy and wrap my own car myself with the PPF
Wanting to black out the roof on my white car. Should I get black PPF or Black vinyl wrap. I have a sunroof and shark fin. Wanting it to last long as possible and the car sits outside and driven all year round what should I go with?
Nice! if I want to change my BMW 3 series "Sunset Orange" colour to something more of BMW's natural OEM blue finishes. Which type of wrapping material would you recommend? -- new fan from Malaysia.
I have a car with factory flat black paint on the hood roof and trunk lid. After the PPF is removed will the adhesive damage the factory flat black paint ? Thanks
Watch a ton of RUclips content on it, buy some film and start practicing on your own vehicle before you start telling customers you can protect theirs.
Thank you very informative . I want to get into this industry. What professional training course should I take first from 3M paint protective film, or vinyl wrap?
@@BlackoutTinting yes I want to do hands on training, what I’m asking is which one you recommend to train first. I have option to train PPF OR Vinyl wrap
There's no warranty on them, most shops would claim 2-3 years of daily driving but if well cared for then longer. One of the guys at our shop is going on 5+ on his I believe.
That's a great question, depends on the shop but probably around 7k-10k. We've never done a whole care in black ppf yet, just stripes and roofs and piano black trim..
How much price difference is in both? If I wanna go Vinyl I would go with base color pearl white to save my wallet. If I go to PPF, I would go MSM. Can you tell me?
Depends on the shop for pricing. Some are all over the place. Vinyl should be like half the price. The PPF usually has a 10 year warranty and self heals, unlike vinyl.
@@wskim5526 Vinyl is a lot cheaper and if you plan to do it yourself, you can get the vinyl online from the manufacture. PPF is not available to consumers unless a shop (business) is willing to sell it to you. For an average sedan vehicle, plan for about 50-55 foot roll extra for mistakes if you do it yourself first time. Should be $500.00 and up depending on manufacture/color/texture and most importantly...demand.
Mine is over 6 years with Vvivid vinyl and I live in Alaska (not garage kept but is parked in a car port). Starting to notice some lifting in the door creases but that maybe because of the installer (me). I do have a tear caused by someone scraping their car door into mine (about the size of a quarter). I would rate most vinyls from 5 to 10 years depending on the elements, type of finish on the original vehicle and how often you drive (highway)
@BlackoutTinting on a chemical level it's quite literally identical, they're both polymer films that bond back together when exposed to heat. Perhaps PPF is capable with just sun exposure or something but it requires heat regardless.
OMG, who cares about paint protection. unless you plan to resell your vehicle and it's something special (increases with value with time) just freaking drive it. Most people buy Vinyl because they got stuck with a shitty color or just want to make a statement, or if you're like me, you're trying to hide some blemishes (eye sores) on the paint/body damage. My BMW was jet glossy black, had very minor dents and the door they replaced was a different shade of black. My matt ghost blue vinyl wrap made it eye appealing because of the color, it helped hide all the imperfections and also made a statement with all the positive comments I got. It was the best $400.00 I spent, and it let me learn a new skill. So, if you have a multi-million-dollar sports car, you're not watching this video.

Which is better at repelling the sun’s heat? Planning to have a white coloured roof only wrap.
Did you find which one does I’m in Vegas heat killing me
Very informative. Can you do a combo of PPF (front/high risk areas) and vinyl (low impact areas but better coverage) and have it look consistent?
THEORETICALLY, probably. We might not be in to odd jobs enough to do it though.
Is this plastic recyclable or headed to a landfill at the end of its life. Is there any risk of it damaging the paint for any reason? Thx
Thanks for the video. What’s the difference in cost for both?
The vinyl is going to probably be a little cheaper unless you want to do door jambs and other areas to completely hide the paint, but the ppf has the self healing properties.
Will PPF apply to a basic Maaco paint job? It does have a clearcoat. (Asking for a friend) 👀.

Do both. Vinyl first and PPF on top!!!!!!!!!🎉
Expensive 🫰
Wanting to black out the roof on my white car. Should I get black PPF or Black vinyl wrap. I have a sunroof and shark fin. Wanting it to last long as possible and the car sits outside and driven all year round what should I go with?
Black PPF, no doubt about it folks. Use a shop that can get close with their edges to make it look god and it’ll look like paint.
What if I wanna make my matte car roof, a glossy finish instead? Is there a clear vinyl or something I can use?
Regular gloss ppf will do that, or a gloss finish colored vinyl
Nice! if I want to change my BMW 3 series "Sunset Orange" colour to something more of BMW's natural OEM blue finishes. Which type of wrapping material would you recommend? -- new fan from Malaysia.
Most wrap companies have similar colors but if you want something really specific you will have to find that brand. We like 3m, kpmf and Avery.
@@BlackoutTinting awesome thank you!

it varies from car to car... I think the paint that is most prone to removing paint is Mclaren
I’m thinking of starting a PPF business , how much money and what are some tips do I need to know before I start wrapping cars ?

What brand of vinyl has a Satin Black that matches the Stealth ppf the closest?
This is a great question, we might have to do a short on that.

Can ppf be applied over vinyl wrap to protect the wrap?
Yep!
Might as well just get colored ppf at that point.

You can protect as much or as little of a vinyl wrap too. Color change PPF is getting more popular too.

Absolutely

If wrapped does it has to be in garage instead the street for longer last?
vinyl can not take the abuse that ppf was designed to take.
A grandpa at the mall can beat any ppf. My Dad has scratched and dented so many cars, including mine.
🥲

With newer vinyl wraps what is the how long with they last on a garaged car that rarely sees street use?

Does the ppf damage paint in time ?
sometimes it can pull paint, but most cases it is fine
@@BlackoutTintingwhat about wrapping?
Usually just a pain to remove, the longer it stays on the worse it gets
So, color vinyl with clear ppf on the top.
Vinyl is also self healing with a bit of heat, implying that vinyl will just scratch and youre cooked is a bit misleading
I think vinyl people have a different definition of self healing. We are planning on comparing the two in a video. So be on the lookout for that.
