Hi watched your video a couple of weeks back and decided to give it a go. Well i had hell on getting the oil to mix that maybe because we have hard water as i have read this can have an affect on how it mixes. Citric acid is supposed to help in this case but i havent tried it yet. What i did find on the net was fruit farmers in the states mix the oil and the soap first to emulsify then add to the water. I tried that this morning and it was so easy to mix in water after that. Going to try it tonight in my knapsack sprayer on the fruit trees and the lawn as it is supposed to work on grubs and ants.
Thanks for the advice, very timely as I just saw some nasty bugs beginning to attack my little plum and cherry trees. Extra thanks for the cat show. Absolutely adorable for a cat lover like me! 💖

At the end, did it really work against fungus gnats? These little guys have moved from my indoor to my balcony plants and it’s so hard to get them at bay. They’re damaging all kind of plants no matter what.. Thank you
If you have a really bad infestation you might want to try a combination of the sticky traps for the adults and hydrogen peroxide solutions for the larva. I found this was the absolute best thing for the fungus gnats (if you've seen the video, you know I tested out various solutions over the last couple of years). Watering with a weak solution of hydrogen peroxided got rid of all my gnats indoors within a couple of weeks. I use neem oil for the garden and greenhouse rather than house plants
@@eliandkate I no longer have much issue inside since I did bottom watering for my indoor plants but now it’s more for the ones outside. So neemoil is not best recipe here? I did hydroperioxide a few weeks ago but it seems they still come back. How often should i repeat it?
I have to be honest in a garden rather than pots you'll struggle to control them. They'll come in from elsewhere as it's their natural environment. Lots of damp and rotting vegetation. I would be very hesitant at using drenches in an actual garden, you would be risking all the essential organism in your soil. You might just have to live with it.
Still doesn't matter. What? Instead of 30sec you are going to get 45 before you have to shake again? After it separates its going to take the same amount of time lol
come here to see how to make this because I have a flea beetle problem on my brassica plants will this in the bottle last for a long time or do you have to keep making fesh
Does the neem oil deter snails and slugs? As here in London/ UK area is constantly raining time to time even now in Summer months or anytime during the year.
Hey Tom, no it doesn't work by detering things, as much as it stinks to me, it works by actually affecting the animals who ingest it biologically. It causes them to stop mating and loose their appetite, so reduces the numbers in the garden. In terms of deterrents, I've found that the majority of the gardener's tricks haven't worked for me. I've tried coffee grounds, eggshells, grit etc but none of them made any difference. On pots and containers I used copper tape (the good quality stuff) and found that has made a massive difference. The only down side was that it was great for containers but a bit useless if your plants were in the ground. But last weel I posted a video about copper rings (form a company called slugrings) and they have been brilliant. I've been using them for a bout a month now and they are definitely making a huge difference. Not sure if that would be something you'd consider useful ruclips.net/video/rniKSLQHQTc/видео.html
@@eliandkate I see thank you very much anyway though for sharing such wonderful, helpful and interesting videos for making and using natural plant pesticides in around the garden. Also your cats seem very cute. Very happy to see them very interactive, very much like our small dog's, always wanting attention, hahaha! 😁😎👍
it mainly prevents wasps n fruit flies from laying larvea into fruits n veggies but doesnt kill pests..mybe reduce in numbers..it also used as natural fungicide
hmmmm ok not a simple one. Neem oil can stop the eggs from hatching if its sprayed directly onto the eggs. It can also kill larva if sprayed directly onto them and if they eat the plant that has been treated. However, it doesn't kill the flies unless again, sprayed directly onto them. As I always remind folk though, neem oil isn't like using a pesticide or insect spray, it doesn't kill things instantly, more that it disrupts their biology that eventually kills them. And please also remember not to just spray willy nilly, don't spray flowers and be careful of other insects. :D Soap sprays as well can help dealing with the eggs and larva, but again, don't go mad, spray with care.
@@eliandkate thanks for that Eli, it’s actually the larvae that’s the problem, they eat the leaves then pupate then lay their eggs in the soil under the plant and start over again! You’ve got to admire them 😂. I’ve actually replanted the bush this year in fresh soil so hopefully that may do it 🤞just wondered if I also drenched the soil with the neem it may help?
This stuff is a contact spray oil coats soft body, over winter spray coats eggs , no harm to bees. Does nothing to hormones please stop false info , oil smothers breath parts of bug and coats body parts only .
Hey, i need help with my neem oil solution. I mixed the solution according to your video but every time i shake to mix the neem oil it just sticks to the side of the bottle. Im not sure why I also looked online how others mixes there solution and i followed them and it still sticks onto the side of the bottle. any clue why it does that??? (im using 100% cold press neem oil and castile soap)
Ok let's look at this 🙂 The first think is to remember you can't just copy someone else, all our situations are different so we need to be able to adapt recipes to suit our personal needs. It may be that you need to add a tiny bit more soap and shake for longer. The other thing, which I suspect might be the case, is that 8tsntoo cold. The oil solidifies when it's too cold. So maybe try making your solution up with warm water? I know mine can solidify by the time I'm finished spraying
@@eliandkate Thanks for replying. I made my batch with warm water and I did add abit more soap in and it made it stick onto the side of the bottle more. The neem oil seems to turn into a paste once I add in the soap and shake and just sticks onto the sides sometimes bits of the neem oil paste ends up in the water in clumps. I'm not sure why it does that.
I wonder if you might be able to get some help in the facebook group? There might be folk there from around your area who maybe buy or know the brand of neem oil you use and can enlighten us to why it turns to paste?
Great vid, brilliant information. I have heard about neem oil killing bees, has anybody had any issues? Also been told could harm house pets but in bigger doses.
No the studies have shown that the type of use we do in our gardens isn't harmful to pollinators or birds, or pets, us etc. Even if you get the oil on a flower head etc The worries have come from some folk who misunderstood the studies and put messages out on social media, which wet a bit crazy (I was actually chatting about this with another youtuber a few months ago and had to go research it hence I'm full of the info LOL). Basically, the active ingredient azadirachtin, in large doses (like industrial scale) potentially could be harmful if ingested, because of that, anyone company supplying it has to meet all the government regulations and get approval before they can sell it. Some of the research studies into neem for agriculture have been really interesting in the unexpected benefits that have been found, in certain circumstances. I always love that, when it makes you think woah... I wouldn't have thought of that, I wonder why that happened :) Anyways I'll stop now coz I know not everyone wants to go do their own research and read academic papers :D but in case you are bored. I really liked this article... www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK234645/

Hey Dee, in the amounts we use in a garden then yes, although it tastes and smells absolutely disgusting, so you will want to wash anything of you've just sprayed it before harvest. It's a different story for large scale like agriculture though. Here in the UK the active ingredient of neem oil is controlled for pesticide use (why folk talk about it being banned in the UK), because when massively scaled up like that it can be detrimental. Like with everything you introduce to your garden, a but of common sense goes a long way. Don't spray it on flowers, try to avoid spraying beneficial insects etc. etc.
I found my way to here looking for a way to help my bay tree, The bug curls up the leaf and wraps itself inside and the go yellow, the black dots appear on the underside. Will neem sort this, I've hard pruned for nearly 10yrs trying to get this problem sorted, one summer all i had left was a 4inch truck and no leaves. And the bug still came back, I took a cutting and the new one is infested too 😆
I have this problem or should I say my bay trees do. Have you finally managed find an effective solution? I am trying removing all the affected leaves and moving the plant to a new spot because I heard the pest overwinters in the soil around the plant. I'll see how they grow this year.
hmmm I can’t say specifically because obviously there will be loads of factors. But I have heard lawn care folk recommending using neem oil in a solution to water the lawn in order to deal with grubs so it may be worth trying a drench.

The Kitchen Garden with Eli & Kate 🤣🤣🤣 yes must have been a surprise for you! 🙈 yes did sort of expect that kind of response about the WupL 🤣 I’ll just hang on for the proper stuff to come 👌🏼 no point doing things in half measures! 🙈 would be good to see a mini vid of you using the neem oil 👌🏼☺️
ha ha ha. 5 seconds of me spraying it lol
Awesome info! Thanks much!
I'm making s fresh batch today
@@eliandkate I need to prepare some. I do appreciate all the explanations given in the video; it is extremey imortant to understand what ne is doing, why, and what the real expectations need to be. The kitty is a adorabe plus! 😻
I'm mixing up a fresh batch today... earwigs are eating my peppers :(
At the end, did it really work against fungus gnats?
HINT, If you mix the Neem oil and (soap/detergent) together in a smaller cup and then add the water the mixture it will stay mixed easily and longer.
Neem doesn’t keep Danny
You need to make fresh batches frequently
@@eliandkate thx
Does the neem oil deter snails and slugs? As here in London/ UK area is constantly raining time to time even now in Summer months or anytime during the year.
Hey Tom,
no it doesn't work by detering things, as much as it stinks to me, it works by actually affecting the animals who ingest it biologically.
Not sure if that would be something you'd consider useful

@@eliandkate I see thank you very much anyway though for sharing such wonderful, helpful and interesting videos for making and using natural plant pesticides in around the garden.
Also your cats seem very cute. Very happy to see them very interactive, very much like our small dog's, always wanting attention, hahaha! 😁😎👍
😀
it mainly prevents wasps n fruit flies from laying larvea into fruits n veggies but doesnt kill pests..mybe reduce in numbers..it also used as natural fungicide
Hi Eli, brilliant video as always, my raspberry plant was decimated by raspberry sawfly last year. Would this be good for tackling them?
hmmmm ok not a simple one.
Soap sprays as well can help dealing with the eggs and larva, but again, don't go mad, spray with care.
I was just about to day you could try soil drenches. 😀
@@eliandkate I’ll give that a go, I just want a raspberry 🙏
Hi Eli, I've got insecticide soap which is made from potassium salts of natural soya oils, can I use it as an emulsifier to mix neem oil spray?
Yup, absolutely. same rules apply though - be careful and test test test! 😀
@@eliandkate Many thanks, really love your channel, very informative and useful, well done!
Which name of coldpressed neem oil do you exactly use, I see so many passing by, still don't know which one is good.
Can you please give me the name?
we try to add links to things on our website so you guys can go look and decide if something is right for you :D

Is neem oil harmful to beneficial insects, such as bees, if they feed on the nectar of sprayed plants?
This stuff is a contact spray oil coats soft body, over winter spray coats eggs , no harm to bees. Does nothing to hormones please stop false info , oil smothers breath parts of bug and coats body parts only .
Hey, i need help with my neem oil solution. I mixed the solution according to your video but every time i shake to mix the neem oil it just sticks to the side of the bottle. Im not sure why I also looked online how others mixes there solution and i followed them and it still sticks onto the side of the bottle. any clue why it does that??? (im using 100% cold press neem oil and castile soap)
Ok let's look at this 🙂
The first think is to remember you can't just copy someone else, all our situations are different so we need to be able to adapt recipes to suit our personal needs.
I am absolutely stumped.... I've no idea why that would be happening. Sorry.
@@eliandkate no worries thank you for replying anyways :) I found your channel a few days ago and do love the content 👍🏼
I wonder if you might be able to get some help in the facebook group?
There might be folk there from around your area who maybe buy or know the brand of neem oil you use and can enlighten us to why it turns to paste?
could any type of soap will result same solution of mixing neem oil with the water??
soap yes, but might be worth watching the video on soap sprays to get a bit of background
Great vid, brilliant information. I have heard about neem oil killing bees, has anybody had any issues? Also been told could harm house pets but in bigger doses.
No the studies have shown that the type of use we do in our gardens isn't harmful to pollinators or birds, or pets, us etc. Even if you get the oil on a flower head etc
The worries have come from some folk who misunderstood the studies and put messages out on social media, which wet a bit crazy (I was actually chatting about this with another youtuber a few months ago and had to go research it hence I'm full of the info LOL).
I wouldn't have thought of that, I wonder why that happened :)
Anyways I'll stop now coz I know not everyone wants to go do their own research and read academic papers :D but in case you are bored. I really liked this article...

@@eliandkate brilliant news, I was going to buy some then got put off. Now I know more facts and I know how to use it, fantastic thanks.
how did you get on Alan?
@@eliandkate got all the gear but had not need to use it yet, probably because of the weather. No doubt will use it soon as the weather is picking up. Will let you know how I get on. On just put my tins outside yesterday.
Thanks dear, what functions will the soap solution contribute?
the soap in this type of mix is purely to help the oil and water combine
How often do you have to apply this?
Will be a bit dependant on you.
I generally use it if I have an issue and I’ll use it once maybe twice over a week
@@eliandkate Thank you 😊
I will have to check ✔ the type I have now
Beautiful cat
That cats adorable btw, what type is she/he? I love his/her colouring!
That is Parker the bigger one of our two calico (tortoiseshell and white). The other one who appears in videos eating our plants is Penny. They are sisters.
Thanks for this, saved me having to do my own research. Oh, and just in time for the arrival of aphids!
Glad I could help!
Is neem oil safe on veg and fruits?
Hey Dee, in the amounts we use in a garden then yes, although it tastes and smells absolutely disgusting, so you will want to wash anything of you've just sprayed it before harvest.
It's a different story for large scale like agriculture though. Here in the UK the active ingredient of neem oil is controlled for pesticide use (why folk talk about it being banned in the UK), because when massively scaled up like that it can be detrimental. Like with everything you introduce to your garden, a but of common sense goes a long way. Don't spray it on flowers, try to avoid spraying beneficial insects etc. etc.
i read tht u should stop using neem oil two weeks b4 harvest to avoid the taste of neem in fruits n veggies
Hi can you buy neem oil from pharmacy or, B&Q.
I have no idea Sajad. Maybe a good garden centre?
Indian grocery shop
I found my way to here looking for a way to help my bay tree, The bug curls up the leaf and wraps itself inside and the go yellow, the black dots appear on the underside. Will neem sort this, I've hard pruned for nearly 10yrs trying to get this problem sorted, one summer all i had left was a 4inch truck and no leaves. And the bug still came back, I took a cutting and the new one is infested too 😆
sorry I can’t say. Neem might help if the bugs are eating the plant but without knowing more about what’s going on it’s hard to say
I have this problem or should I say my bay trees do. Have you finally managed find an effective solution? I am trying removing all the affected leaves and moving the plant to a new spot because I heard the pest overwinters in the soil around the plant. I'll see how they grow this year.
Fun fact it’s also great for your skin, if you can get past the smell lol
Omg no!!!! The smell.
Will this be effective with grubs?
hmmm I can’t say specifically because obviously there will be loads of factors. But I have heard lawn care folk recommending using neem oil in a solution to water the lawn in order to deal with grubs so it may be worth trying a drench.
@@eliandkate Thank you for your reply.
This is a very long video. Would benefit from simply stating how to make the spray and the quantities needed first up.
Hey Amy
welcome aboard and thoughtful feedback :D
hmm I totally understand where you are coming from, if you are just looking to learn a thing quickly and get a job done then that's exactly what you are after. It's not what this channel is about though, here we focus more on the community of people who have come on this journey with me over the years and the social and informal chat style, so whether it's a full on "vlog" type video or a "let me share a thing I've learned", they are always geared towards that friendly and social interaction. Especially now that we're all locked down and online communities are much more important to some of us than ever before :D
If you prefer the in and out, got what I need type channel you should try some of the video libraries companies have. I know we have a few in the UK run by gardening companies as a quick hot to guide section.
Good luck :D
