Watch a full tutorial as a 2017 Volkswagen GTI MK7 will have a Pioneer 5 Channel Amplifier and Alpine 10" Type S Subwoofer Installed. We will be using the stock CD/Radio Stereo of which will be removed to allow access to speaker outputs in order to our wiring providing signal to the amplifier without use of an aftermarket radio.
This video applies to VW GTI models for years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. This video also includes dash trim removal, complete amplifier wiring instructions, complete installation, and testing.

Great Video. Love how you ran the BLUE POWER WIRE while not being hot. Most videos online show people connecting the power wire to the battery first and then running it through a car while live is a BIG No No! And then when you fiñshed running it, then you connected it. Nice Video Again!

Hey mate, great video. I used this for wiring up mine, but found after a bunch testing to be sure, the way you have put in the fuse tap / add a circuit is the wrong orientation. If you are running in the 12v accessory fuse with ignition turn on the tail lead from the add a circuit must be going upwards. Downwards the way you have it in the video works (as it will) but the power for the second circuit runs through the first circuit meaning 1. You have to have the bottom fuse in as well as all current will run through the bottom fuse first, and 2. If the 12v accessory fuse goes the amp stops working. It is essentially running the fuses in series rather than in parallel. You can test this by pulling out the bottom fuse, your amp will stop turning on. But awesome video, thank you!

Awesome video (the best ive come across for an audio installation in a golf!) One very very small critiscm you dont need a remote wire with a stock headunit so that part of tapping the fuse is not required - pioneer and most other amps will turn on and off with the speaker input from a stock headunit (this goes for any car not just vw). N
Very good explanaion of installaion. I have recently installed d9705 in my honda civic. I already used high end 3 preout jvc audio dac. Sounds bcome havier after intaling 5 channel amp, i like more high frequencis and mid range music sounds but i dont like more base sound. But after instaling this base effect is more.

Awesome video, very helpful. Any advantage to using the rear speakers rather then front? and i have an Mk7 , is a high low adapter worth using instead of direct tap like in the video?
I ran new speaker wire for all my speakers in my 350z. Doing the doors was a pain in the ass!!! Had to drill a hole in the molex connector that connects to the body and door and run speaker wire into it then through the door loom and into the door. Took a bit of extra time but was worth it cause of how much better it sounds than if I did this!
You ASSUME the new wire runs sound significantly better, but you did no testing before and after for quantifiable data. So understand your statement is a placebo comment at best ;)

Hey, nice video and great explenation. But i also got 4 crossovers to install... there is just one cable going from stereo to one side of the car (FR, FL, RR, RL). Do you know where does the cable split for the tweeter??

I see how you amplified the speakers, but I'm wanting to add speakers to the stock ones (custom pods) but I got no signal from them when I installed my 4 channel. Placed into the speaker wire behind the head unit, but did not cut the speaker wire.
How did you mount the amp on the back of the seat? Did you nust screw it on or are you using some sort of plate?

You had many unused fuses to use instead of tapping into one. Just put your rem fuse on the top socket on the adapter and plug into a fuse that only gives 12v on ignition. Lowers the risk of blowing fuses
You just need two of the 9 conductor wires in this scenario. Zero rca cables required. One to the back into the high level input and one back from the speaker outs on the amp to the front. No remote wire or messing with the fusebox required as others have stated
Where was this video in 2015 lol. Too late but very detailed. You also called this a Mk6 in the beginning but solid install. I would personally hide the amp where the spare is though.
Excelent explanation. But you had to cut the wires behind the glovebox. Isn't there an adapter cable harness like PP AC-92B that could avoid cutting wires?
Do you use high output of the radio converted to quinch and then to the lowlevel input of the amp?? Why does the amp has high input then?
Awesome tutorial! Very well explained. The only part I can't figure out is why you plugged 2 RCA output cable from the radio to the subwoofer input ports of the amplifier? From my point of view there are 8 speaker wires (positive and negative) which are paired and then 4 RCA cables are plugged into the amplifier (2 front speakers + 2 rear speakers). In other words, there is no channel for the sub coming out of the radio so where to your RCA sub input on the amplifier come from? Thanks in advance and have a great day!

You shouldn’t be towing anything with a 7 way with your GSW anyways 🙄
This also applies for the Arteon, as it has the same type of head unit. The only thing different is the back seats.
What year Arteon did you install on?
Using those rca joiners can attract a lot of engine sounds, it's better he had use an inpedience adapter.

The amp allowed the option to pull signal from the 4 channel side for the sub channel.
Hi, I have a 2017 GTI with Fender Audio System with a factory subwoofer on the top ot the spare tire. I would like to connect a JL Audio type D 5 channel amplifier. I got an idea how to plug it in but I am uncertain how to feed the signal to the the JL amp without the RCA converter you have used on other amplifier installations and why suppress the RCA converter. Do you happen to know if there is another set of output cables on the rear of the CD unit that can be used to feed the subwoofer signal? All the videos I have found are for sound systems that do not have a factory subwoofer. There is nothing for for a Fender Audio system out there. There is this video from a guy who went beyond the limits installing regulators and so on. I just want my system to sound nice for me only not to show off to othe other drivers. I have no intention (for now) to replace door speakers. I am sure installing this JL audio amp the sound will improve. I just want to make sure I do it right.
How to mount the amp on to the back of the seat? Is it self tapping screw? What is the seat back side made out of?

Hey, you have used pioneer GM amps several times now, in particular the gm-d9605 5 channel amp. Do you recommend it as a great budget amp with great output for a nice thumping system? I have an mk6 golf.
Absolutely. For the price, its a 2 in 1 amplifier which saves on space and budget. With 600 watts @ 2 ohms for the sub channel, and 75 watts @ 4 ohms for each interior speaker channel, you can't go wrong.
Did this car have a factory amp? Did you have to bypass? I'm needing help on my mk4 golf gti with monsoon factory amp, I have a aftermarket radio and install my RCA to that to run my single subwoofer but for some reason the sub won't play music everything is new except the headunit only thing I can think of is the RCA in radio aren't working. Or if I need to bypass the stock amp or something, I can't find a answer
a bit late to the party here... how did you get 6 channels from 4? Did you just tap a second set of RCA's off 2 of the channels?

My pioneer amp does not use a remote wire. It work off a signal from the RCA inputs on the amp.

I've spent hours looking for a harness for my 2019 gti, no luck. I figure I'm going to keep the car so I may as well just wire in and solder the wires. I'm going to use a lc7i between head unit and amp, so I don't need to find the amp turn-on lead, as the lc7i will provide that function for me.
@@orblivious1 just a heads up. I installed this weekend and I threw a BUNCH of codes. I had the battery unhooked but it still there the codes. I an going to call around today to see who can clear the codes. Just in case you get codes when you turn everything back on.
@@teamboval8342 hey, thanks for the heads up. i haven't heard of this before, and it doesn't make me feel better about my upcoming install! :) did u start the car w/the airbag/hazard light disconnected? did u see what codes were thrown? I have a cheap obd2 tool that can scan and reset simple things like the CEL after a coilpack blows. i think autozone will scan the codes for you, too.
How do the female rcas work there’s only 6 but there 8+ wires going into them all
Great video, just one question the 8 output wires from the unit become 6 RCA. Can you explain which wires you combined? Additionally why not use speed wire from the unit to the amp and at the amp use those RCA splices?
Super old video, we'd do things very differently.
1. There is a T harness available to prevent any need to cut into the factory wiring
2. Use a line out converter (LC2i, or LC7i) for signal correction and a nice output to an amplifier if your amp doesn't take a high level input.
3. yes 9 wire is great, and you can use two sets if you use a similar technique like we did in the video.

He re wired the door speakers which isn’t really necessary. All you need is an rca converter and tap into the rear door speaker wires up by the head unit in the glove box

It isn't a high current trigger wire, so even a 5 amp fuse will be just fine.
Hi my friend. What gauge or cable number did you used to connect the bass to the sub bass channel?
Four gauge is what that amp accepts but I think he used bigger from the battery. Reduced as it got to the speaker.
great video! the link is not showing the door speakers used, also you did not use a line out converter for the rca hook up, this is OK with this amp? I am installing this amp into a 2012 toyota highlander using the stock non jbl head unit, can I also use rca cables without a LOC? I will be using alpine sps610 and 610c and an alpine 10" type S sub, thanks again for the videos
xlthumper we didn't use a line out converter since this pioneer can take both a high level or Low level signal through the RCA inputs so there was no need to install one. Other amps may require a line out converter. See 9:36 of the video which shows the speaker wiring diagram.

So the rca plugs you added to the harness (red and white ones) where did you get those?
at 11:33 in the video you have some rca cables attached to the factory harness. It looked liked you just cut into the wires and added them. Where can I get those from? I'm trying to do the same setup in a 2014 mustang.

Dude, the Pioneer amp he used supports speaker level inputs. There's no point adding another piece of electronics if it is not needed ($ plus noise).

He's running the remote directly from the fuse panel. You can do it easier by buying a Speaker to RCA Line output converter which converts your speaker wires to RCA connectors and also has the remote output so you don't have to tap into the fuse box.
What about the tweeters?

Great video, extremely helpful. One thing I’ve never understood about this process is what happens to the original power amp. You’ve essentially added an amp in series with the original wiring, so aren’t the speakers getting double amp’d (aside from the sub)? If that’s the case and there was a low quality amp signal to begin with, you would still be hearing that low quality.
Our vehicle did not have the factory upgraded amplifier.

@@NonIdentifiable Not really, the high input on the amp regulates the power from the source amp, but the sound quality will not be great, as with all hi lvl inputs.
Does this setup affect the Bluetooth feature of the car (i.e voice output when receiving calls etc.)?
Nope, this setup is just amplifying the sound output of the radio only.
So instead of taking the radio out and hooking up a line output converter you can do this?
What was the initial length of the power wire you used? I have looked at "Amp kits" online and most seem to have 20" or less of wire. I like to have more than just enough just from experiences in the past. So just curious how long your power wire was because it did seem like you had plenty to play with if you made a mistake. Thanks

If you can, grab some 4ga welding cable... Yes, welding cable...I use it my car and I KNOW if it's good for welding metal it'll be good for running power to my amps.... It never gets hot as it's industrial coated... It'll cost a shade more than amp kit sold online but trust me... Best choice I think you can make.... It's not bright and pretty like the blue cable... But seriously, who's guna see it?

I have the Pioneer 8604 (similar to the amp used) And is it better (sound/signal wise) to use a LOC with the RCA’s or the speaker level input on the amp? Or does it not matter? Thanks!
It doesn't matter, the 8604 can take both high level and low level inputs through the RCA inputs. If you go the LOC method, make sure you invest into a quality LOC.

yes, but you do run the risk of blowing them.

How did you solve the issue when you press the stop button and the amp keeps working?. My car has the push start button feature.
Just make sure you find a circuit that remains on when you push the stop button.

How much watts do you have going to the doors using factory. 18 gauge wires. I wished you showed how you got rid of your distortion level and clipping of the amp
We set our gains with an SMD-DD1 to the factory sound system. for 18 gauge wiring, usually the most power you can push would be around 100 watts RMS. any more power would require a new run of wire.
How does the amp sound with the high level inputs?
High level inputs are just so you have signal.. shouldn't make much of a difference no matter what amp you used.

You can install a better acid battery or AGM battery with deeper cycles, you could perform a "big three" upgrade to help deliver the amperage needed from the alternator or add a second battery which we have a video on our channel for.
